Guest Reviews
- Jozef (9/5): Superb -
- Robert (7/5): Good -
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (7/5): Good - The place is a beautiful, hidden gem right on the perimeter of parque de las palapas.
- Juan (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was just perfect tho. It was a very chill place and everyone was just kind and very servicial... food was good, the pool was kinda small but it was clean and it has a massage pump on it that you can use to relax while you're on it. They have no kitchen
- Olga (2/5): Never again! - The staff was very nice. A girl at the reception helped me a lot when I had issues with payment. Also, the location is great, one of my favourite spots in Cancun. Beautiful view from the window. The stay was a real nightmare! This place is extremely dirty, I had to wash the floor in the room and also the bathroom (including the toilet) because it was so disgusting, looks like it has never been cleaned. Stains, the shower full of hair, shower curtain is black because of mold. The blanket had a huge hole in it and the bedsheet – stains, the pillow had a very bad smell. Also something happened with the AC so my second night I couldn't sleep, it was too hot. The last drop was when my boyfriend came by his car to pick me up, the guy who is helping to park the cars asked for money because "he was guarding the car all night" which was not true, the car was not there. Anyway, we gave him coins and he got super angry and throw it back in the car. Maybe he has nothing to do with the hostel but it was a terrible experience. I hope you improve your service because the place itself is not bad and the location is just great.
- Caitlin (8/5): Very good -
- Katerina (1/5): Bad - There are BED BUGS!!! I found them in my bed, showed to receptionist, but they don’t really care. I got free drink and that was all. I left completely bitten. Mattresses do not have protective covers. And girl from another room was bitten too so they are probably in all rooms. It took about six weeks to heal bites.
- Jeremiah (8/5): Very good - It was a really nice place really nice people I recommend they work really hard to give the best clientele possible and the staffs are really cool and responsive so it was great thanks again hope to see you again soon -Jeremiah

- Beaton (9/5): Great location with a good vibe! - Restrurant / bar on lower level, which is convenient
The swimming pool is a great addition.
A 2 minute walk away is a park / recreational area with markets and entertainment nightly.
Central bus terminal is just a 5 minute walk away with transportation to / from the airport and other cities.
Moses is very helpful.
- Cornelis (6/5): Pleasant - Good location, lockers No kitchen
- Paloma (10/5): Nice little mexican stay. - Very welcoming reception and staff. Excellent location with local market and beautiful church. Approximately less than 7 minutes walk to the beach buses. They have laundry service and delicious mexican breakfast. Nothing to dislike really. If you are looking for an affordable place to stay. In fact, the best hostel in Cancun so far.
- Tyler (10/5): Exceptional - A great stay with very nice front-end people; also was nice being able to use my Spanish constantly. Overall, the style of hotel is a true Mexican style.
- Nicolas (2/5): Very poor -
- Jon (10/5): - Nice place with a pool and restaurant and bar
- Florian (5/5): Ok for a basic and short stay. - It is well located and easy to be reached from the bus station. There's a nice common space around the pool. I was really missing a kitchen although it was my fault to not have checked that before online.
- Judith (8/5): Very good - The staff was kind and helpful. The pool The bathroom smells, and there is no air conditioning during the day, no curtains on the side of the beds to have some privacy.
- Jesus (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sora (6/5): Pleasant - Location is good. You can get some local food with reasonable price near there. Bed sheet was not clean. Some dusts on it. And, front desk was noisy even though it was night.
- Julia (9/5): Superb -
- Jessica (4/5): Disappointing -
- Zsazsa (7/5): Good - Bathroom is exceptional. Large and clean
As well as rooms. Nice place overall.
- Karina (8/5): Easy relaxed hostel in a central location - Great location close to the bus station, relaxed atmosphere (not for partying thankfully, so it was great to get some rest), but near all the bars and restaurants, friendly helpful staff. They are going through a change in management, is what I understood, so there are improvements pending, like adding shower curtains, etc. I would have liked for the pillows to be nicer, I had to use my own clothes to stuff the pillow to make it more comfortable.
- Sophia (1/5): They didn't reserve my room. - the bar The hostel did not reserve my room even though I communicated my arrival date clearly. the communication between the staff is very bad.
- Lydia (1/5): I experienced racism while at this hostel, ran out of toilet paper, was hot and uncomfortable and was assaulted by a “te - The location is the only thing positive about this place because it is downtown. It is completely filthy, the owner lets people rent the shared rooms for months at a time even though you’re only supposed to stay for 30 days at a time. They won’t let you have air conditioning until 5pm every day, so you are burning up all day. The cleaner Maggie is racist and got some Jamaican arrested before, she treats black people like trash
- Bram (1/5): Bad - Worse hostel i ever been , with new years eve i arrive and nobody was there , a lot more people waiting to get in and get a room but nobody reply because he ( they) where to busy party. They dont care about you. No refund , even after they hardly reply or wanna make a refund. Had to book a expensive hotel next door. People i spoke to there say it was a mess inside. Not sure how can be that good references here ? DON'T STAY HERE! - Joanna (5/5): Passable -
- Inparadise_lost (3/5): You can do much better for very few pesos more. - The pool was ok to cool off in. Everything else. The owner is simply bad at running a business and seems to hate customers. No light in the bathroom. Shower dirty and drain clogged, no shower head, no soap at the sink, which is a health code violation (no shampoo in the shower dispenser either, but that's not expected). Dorms are tiny and jammed with beds. No shade or shelter from the rain. The building design does not handle rain well at all. Vinyl lounge has apparently had a puddle of water sitting on for years; covered in mildew and placed so that it catchrs the rain from an overhang. Patio drains clogged. Balconies dump water right over the doorway. Beer 58 pesos - 20 pesos more than everywhere else, even the fine restaurants two streets over, on the other side of the highway.
Do not recommend.
- Leontii (5/5): Passable -
- Beaton (8/5): Very good -
- Byun (5/5): Passable - swimming pool show room
- Zsazsa (9/5): Hostel with goid vibe. - Beautiful hostel with different levels of terraces. Welcoming and friendly. 3 blocks from bus terminal. Liked it all
- Dragana (9/5): Great for short stays. Thanks -
- Georgeta (9/5): Superb - Amazing position, near everything in cancun. All was clean and good. Perfect for who want to travel spending a little money
- B (6/5): Alright - The location was great in downtown. You get what you paid for.
- Kiru (8/5): Very good - The rooms are spacious, clean and very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and always willing to help. The location is excellen : )
- Dominic (8/5): Very good - Comfortable bed, hot water, 1 bathroom per dorm. Good location. WiFi not very good, no where to cook. A lot of stairs.
Not the hostels fault but too many obnoxious guests lol
- Susan (2/5): Very poor -
- Leo (1/5): Bad -
- Liana (5/5): Passable -
- Miguel Angel (10/5): Accesible y buen servicio - Tiene lo necesario para pasarla agusto y el precio es accesible

- Elias (7/5): Good -
- Pedro (1/5): Dont recomend - Nothing Dirty pool, bar closed on saturday, old furniture
- Jillian (9/5): Superb - Great location for access to the ADO bus station. Best hot water shower. Nice outdoor areas to sit and chat. Easy and friendly check-in. The top bunk bed was a little scary getting up and down. They made the most of the small room, but the top bunk is high....
- Pia (7/5): Great hostel for a night stay - The hostel is very nice located. Just behind is a huge food market with live music you should not miss! Also the ADO bus station is just around the corner. The hostel stuff is super friendly and always there to help you. Unfortunately, our room was not clean and because of the market next door it's very noicy. Keep in mind to bring yourself some Oropax, if you book here.
- Karolina (1/5): Bad - The worst hostel I've ever stayed in. Upon arrival, the hotel was locked, even though I wrote an email to the hostel the day before saying I would arrive around 11 pm, the answer was that they work until 12 am, the guests were left without their payed rooms. So unprofessional. The next day the hotel owner was rude and arrogant instead of apologizing, many guests immediately left for another hotel. The cleaning lady yelled at me and threatened me that I even wanted the police call. Everything looks much worse and dirtier than in the pictures. The only positive thing is the location
- Vincent (6/5): Pleasant - The location is ideal if you're staying for one or two nights and are traveling by bus. The bus station is a 5 minute walk away.
Lots of spots to eat and a small park with much local life.
Also the staff who welcomed us the first night were really kind and helpful. The room and bathroom were not really clean, the towels had stains, and the AC was not working at all.
- David (6/5): - Good location but a bit run down
- Isabelle (9/5): Superb -
- Simon (1/5): Bad - Very dirty washrooms.
- Obiechina (6/5): Quality Hostel - I liked the swimming pool layout, the guests, the staff, the bar downstairs, the location, I liked how close it was to the La Palapas park, I love fish and there's a place there that sells a nice fish dinner with rice for great value. I liked how central it was to everything, I took the bus to the beach. I liked that the crowd was more mature. I liked the cleanliness. I liked the bathroom. I didn't like the fact the AC in the room is off during the day. I didn't like that I couldn't get a refund for leaving early.
- R (9/5): Good value for money. - Staff very considerate. Location was excellent. Close to ADO bus. Nothing
- Maryna (1/5): Bad - The hostel administration does not take into account the operation of the air conditioner in the women's room; if you get one of the top shelves in this room, you will not be able to sleep at night due to the cold. Everyone in this room is sick. Management should consider installing curtains for the beds on the upper level or not renting out these beds to people at all
- Stephanie (7/5): Backpacker's stop - Location wise it's hard to beat this hostel. You're in the heart of Cancùn with countless bars, restaurants, shops and ATMs. It's also a 5 minute walk to the ADO bus station. The room in itself is fine for a couple of days and if you're not carrying loads of luggage. The bed was clean and comfy.
Staff was super friendly and helpful as it was our first day in Mexico. Cleanliness can definitely be improved: we found so much hair in the bathroom...
I'm not a light sleeper but this area should be avoided if you are.
- Judith (8/5): Very good -
- Leo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Judith (9/5): Superb - The place is good for the price. There may be some undesirable people here, one girl got all her things stolen at the mix room so I suggest if you're a woman stay in the female room and still lock your valuables.
- Francesco (6/5): No control whatsoever - Clean. Pool smell like bleach. There were drunk people and marihuaneros doing drugs under the windows, there is no surveillance at all. They made noise, i couldn't sleep. When i complained a guy showed up asking them to shut up, then left and they continued
- Sam (4/5): Disappointing -
- Zach (7/5): Good -
- Juan c (10/5): - Tal cual
- R (9/5): Superb -
- Arvie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cheyenne (9/5): Superb - Only the people in my room were a bit noisy
- Mohamed (4/5): Disappointing -
- Bradley (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (4/5): - Friendly staff
- Robert (3/5): skip this one - location didn't appreciate that my locker was broken into and then the lock on my suitcase jimmied open and 27,000pesos stolen.
didn't appreciate the sanctimonious DIVA status lf Eduardo, either.
- Carlos (10/5): Gracias - Especial es el personal que conoce el lugar y que han viajado mucho y bien preparados y la cocina es excelente y muy buenos precios
- Jesus (10/5): - Esta hermoso el hotel.
- David (6/5): if you have no other option it's ok - close to downtown and shows. the photos of the place are nicer than the actual place
- James (4/5): - I got caught on the hop ,and needed to find a place quickly.it did the job for one night ,lady receptionist was very pleasant
- Andreja (9/5): Superb -
- Singh (9/5): Superb -
- Autonu (8/5): Very good -
- Nikolai_est (8/5): Clean and friendly - Nice and clean place in the center of the city, AC and individual fan keeps you cool, lots of shops and eating facilities around, bus to the beach is 5 minutes away, Central bus station - 10 minutes. The pool is big enough to swim. A hostel is expected to have a guest kitchen - not here.
- Diego (10/5): The best. - The pool is clean and fresh, the staff is great! -
- Elsayed (1/5): Bad - Its design is psychologically comfortable. Nothing
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - The bed was bigger than a standard single, plenty of bathrooms. The staff were very good. Location was excellent on the main square and a short walk to bus station. The garden and pool were nice and other guests were nice and friendly. Loved everything.
- Ait (3/5): Bad Experience: The Reception Guy Scammer - The reception guy was so mean and tried to scam us because we were teenagers by giving us rooms without ac separated even through the we made sure to make a reservation of all of us to be together and with AC, and they were last nights when they were some possibilities to be all of us together but Somehow wasn't possible , and he added more taxes other than the ones included in the reservation without noticing us.
- Conti (1/5): Bad - Nada Horrible
- Leo (10/5): Anonymous. - The Chill vibe.
Catching Laughs. I didn't like that Naked Jacuzzi was cancelled ha 😂😂😂 hahahaha
- Leo (10/5): Chilled - So Relaxed and Chill One time at band camp.
- Josiah (1/5): Rude management and poor conditions make Xtabentun Hostal a place to avoid. - Nothing. Terrible Experience with Rude Management - Avoid at All Costs!
I recently checked into Xtabentun Hostal in Mexico, and it was the worst hostel experience I've ever had. After spending the day at the beach, I returned to the hostel to put my luggage in my room. I hadn't even stayed the night, used the bed, or anything of the sort. I was just hanging out in the lobby/restaurant area when the hostel manager approached me in the most rude and condescending manner possible.
He had the audacity to tell me to take a shower before getting into bed because, according to him, I "stink." First of all, this was early in the evening, and no one was even asleep yet. Secondly, the room I was going to be staying in already smelled bad because there’s no A/C, and the combined body odor from other guests due to the heat was overwhelming. It was clear the room’s odor was a result of poor ventilation, not me.
What’s worse is that I hadn’t even been close enough to this guy for him to have any idea if I smelled or not. I didn’t even know his name! He spoke to me as if I were a child, not a paying customer. This kind of treatment is absolutely unacceptable in any country or culture.
To top it all off, the room conditions were awful. The lack of air conditioning made the place unbearable, and the smell was atrocious. This hostel clearly has no respect for its guests, and the manager’s behavior only made an already uncomfortable stay even worse.
Save yourself the trouble and avoid Xtabentun Hostal at all costs. There are plenty of other places in Mexico where you'll be treated with the respect you deserve as a guest. This place is not one of them.
- Arjun (6/5): Pleasant -
- Daniel (7/5): Good -
- Leo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Monica (9/5): nice stay - Nice location of the hostel, next to a lively plaza I was asked to confirm I was a customer when using the public areas with no apparent reason
- Leo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amanda (7/5): Good - Nice hostel and central location
- Paride (8/5): Very good -
- Johnson (10/5): Exceptional - Very good service
- Zając (1/5): The worst hostel i have every been - This hostel is terrible. There is no any air circulation in dorm room do it is hot as in sauna. There is only small fan above bed which doesnt help much. They are no mosqito nets in the windows. It is dirty and toilet is disguisting. It looks like it wasnt cleaned for weeks. Pillow i got from them was yellow with disguisting stains.
Moreover this is not a safe place, weird and suspicious people hang out there. When i was there someone has stolen my flip flops and trousers from my bed. When i notified the staff they didnt want to help. It was in the evening and the guy from reception claimed that he doesnt have acces to cameras and that another worker willa check it the next morning. When i came to reception the next day, the new receptionost claimed that he doesnt have access to the camera but the guy from them previous day does.... They were just laying to gry rid of the problem a d wasting my time.
- Tiona (10/5): Home in the heart of Cancun - Central location in downtown Cancun. Minutes from ADO bus station by walking. Easy to get local transportation. Abundance of nearby restaurants and food options. No kitchen for cooking, but they will let you store food in the fridge.
