Guest Reviews
- John (8/5): Oasis in the city - Smartly appointed and very clean
Great coffee and tea available and breakfast in a library room adjacent rooms. Very comfortable little oasis in the coty Nothing

- MandyLizzyB (10/5): -
- Steven (9/5): Exceptional location and value for money. - Small but sufficient breakfast in a cozy library space is included. The pub downstairs is good vlaue. Exceptional location and value for money.
- Clara (7/5): - Very well located hotel in the center of Sydney, the room i had was small but i didn’t mind as it had everything i needed.
The bathroom was very nice, the TV had channels included which was very nice.
A Wooly is situated close by if needed, and lots of buses are within 10 min walks which is very practical A bit loud because of the rooftop bar, when the clients go down the stairs you can hear them a lot from your room
- Iselin (8/5): -
- Cecily (9/5): -
- Lauren (7/5): - Overall good property, in a convenient location, we didn’t go to the bar or rooftop but the noise quietened down by 9:30pm and we were on the 2nd floor and a nice continental breakfast in the morning included with pastries, yogurt, fruit etc. It’s a bit dated in the rooms.
- Brenda (7/5): -
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Ann (8/5): It was the last 2 nights of our holiday. The rooftop bar was very good and staff where very helpful - Central All good
- Erin (10/5): Fantastic stay, will come back again. - Beautifully decorated art deco style rooms in a beautiful historic pub. Fantastic roof terrace with well priced drinks and central to everything.
- Courtney (5/5): - Good location Rooms weren’t as clean as they appeared in photos (I.e, lots of marks on the walls & furniture, carpet appeared somewhat dirty)
- Sam (2/5): Overly expensive for bad quality - The location was quite central. Not too far away from things to do. All the mould in the bathroom. You can't even watch TV which is just ridiculous! I especially hated the very loud air-conditioning! All I could hear all night was loud humming and the sound of water bubbling. Urghh I am so disappointed! I didn't get to sleep at all!!! The price was really overly expensive for what you got and it certainly didn't reflect it's quality. The free breakfast was really average. Would be nice if the pod machine included instructions on how to use somewhere. Both me and another couldn't work out how to use it. And also I would expect hot water from the shower instead of Luke warm water. How disgraceful!
- Kwong (7/5): -
- Hannah (7/5): -
- Spaulding (8/5): - Good air con.. Upstairs noise
- Cyrillia (5/5): - Stairs no lifts lots of dust in bedroom check skirting boards
- Andrew (9/5): -
- Phil (9/5): Clean, comfortable, and a great stay - The room was clean, comfortable and a good size. They were really accommodating with holding our bags both pre check-in and post check-out, and prioritised our room to be ready slightly early. The property is on a busy junction, which might be difficult for light sleepers.
- Ash (10/5): Great place to stay in Sydney, would stay again. - Great location, clean room and friendly staff.
Loved the complimentary breakfast in the library nook.
- Cara (9/5): - I arrived early and the room was made available to me earlier in the day than expected
Tasty breakfast included in booking price Bed was a bit uncomfortable
- Orsa (8/5): Great location, perfect to explore Sydney - Great location, super friendly staff, good value and very clean Walls need painting, breakfast needs more care (broken coffee machine, no milk,…).
- Anjil (8/5): -
- Michael (7/5): -
- Preeyanuth (8/5): -
- Melanie (10/5): - The room was nicely styled, clean and the bed was very comfortable
- Karen (8/5): - The decor of the hotel was beautiful and the room was appointed well. No noise from the bar below nor above. The bathroom was quite small - but didn’t detract from our experience.
- Drew (10/5): -
- Terry (9/5): Very satisfying - Loved the old charm & great staff Small shower but I understand there’s limited space to work with.
- Dániel (10/5): Cozy and practical - The location, the staff and the services were excellent. The size of the room were little bit tiny, but we could live with that. :)
- Davis (10/5): Great location, and the room was beautiful tbh. - The room was great. A great comfy King bed, shower was recently refurbed, very clean with a touch of retro. Very impressed. Nothing. Great decor, fantastic room and king bed, very comfy, maybe a little traffic noise but minimal.
- Larkin (6/5): I was just here for one night as it was closely located to the hospital for an early morning admission - So helpful with my luggage considering the stairs and ensured a lower level room Nothing
- Mark (10/5): -
- Thomas (8/5): -
- Gwénola (7/5): Bien - localisation Roof top fermé alors que nous somme restés 5 jours
- Tristan (9/5): -
- Jennifer (7/5): We were happy with our stay and would stay again if we were in Sydney again. - Convenient for what we were doing.
Quiet, and easy access into the property.
Room was pretty well equipped. Couldn’t get the tv to work in either of the two rooms we had booked. Maybe supply instructions on how to for just normal tv.
Only criticism was the bathroom had quite a bit of mould all around floor line. The single room could do to have a chair in it as my mother of 92 struggled to put her shoes on. Also no sugar in our bedroom to have with our coffee.
- Lisa (10/5): Fantastic, beautiful stylish accommodation close to everything. We will definitely be back. - Modern, stylish and fantastic location. The breakfast was lovely and the staff were efficient and friendly. The library and the roof top bar were great. Everything about this accommodation was excellent. The bathroom was slightly small but they did the best given the set up of the room. It isn't enough to stop me from going back, just a little squishy.
- Alex (10/5): Great place give it a try - Oldy worldy. Decent sized room, TV, kettle, coffee machine, fridge, glasses, cups, seating, toiletries all provided. No noise whatsoever from the pub downstairs. Very comfortable bed.
The complimentary breakfast of tea, coffee, museli, juice, yogurt, fruit and pastries was a lovely touch. Whilst its an old property, a little care and attention required around the windows, although if its a listed building, they might be restricted on what they can do.
- Rochelle (8/5): -
- Micaela (8/5): -
- Joanna (9/5): -
- Shirley (6/5): Great for overnight stay with handy location. - Great location for work. Room compact but adequate. Thought there would be noise from the bar but was a quiet night and enjoyed a good sleep. No lift which I didn’t realise when booking. So 3 flights of stairs carrying a heavy suitcase. Staff helped to get bag up to the room which was so appreciated. Interesting check in area and only open a few hours per day. Rooftop bar closed all day and night so unable to meet friends for drinks and main bar very noisy.
- Matt (3/5): Expensive and dirty - Location Filthy bathroom
- peter (5/5): -
- Stephen (8/5): Great little ensuite room above a pub - Lovely helpful staff, a place to store bags for the day, beautiful little library and roof terrace Bathroom seems to have been flooded in the past, with mould on the bottom row of wall tiles. Could smell the mould.
- Ian (3/5): - Not very clean, bathroom door couldn’t close and hard to sleep with traffic noise
- Lianne-K (8/5): Great location, excellent staff only negative was the room I booked which was my fault - Staff were great, location fantastic I had a small room and for staying a week it was a bit stuffy with no window
- Olha (10/5): - Location is perfect for a work trip to Sydney, the Strand hotel has a quiet library area with a desk to work on some emails, and the pub downstairs had amazing honey chicken bowl!
- Rosemary (8/5): Very comfortable stay. - The location was great.
Room comfortable and quiet.
Good continental breakfast The only problem was the toilet lid was loose.
- Danny (9/5): -
- Akoon (8/5): -
- Alanah (7/5): -
- John (8/5): - Location No elevator
- Seohwi (10/5): -
- Jessie (6/5): -
- Tonya (10/5): -
- Rex (8/5): It was ok - Location Meal (dinner)
- Mark (8/5): Great place & good vibe - Rooftop bar Stairs
- Evennett (10/5): -
- Judy (5/5): Was ..ok.. for a nite - The location was good Mold in the bathroom around the bottom of the floor and shower.
No elevator
Noisy
- Laura (9/5): -
- Scott (8/5): Will stay again as the location is great and the room was well designed and quiet. - Location and yet still quiet. Nice staff, good design. There was a “ breakfast “ included though very disappointing. Tea or coffee ( no decaf) and a bowl of cornflakes or some pastries. Fruit would have been good, even fruit juice.
- Debra (8/5): -
- Gail (10/5): -
- Iain (8/5): An older style hotel beautifully renovated and with a rooftop bar - but be aware that there is no elevator so don’t over - Perfectly positioned between the city and the cross. And the staff were all excellent. I like the property and the position but I had failed to notice when booking that there was no elevator which, had I not been travelling light, could’ve been a slight problem.
- Rosie (8/5): -
- Shane (9/5): - Breakfast, water station, roof top bar.
- Shane (9/5): A weekend in Sydney - Close to the city and transport.
Roof top bar and food was great.
Drink and food prices were reasonable.
- Chris (8/5): - Good location for discovering Sydney
- Megan (8/5): Great location, with modern rooms at good value prices. - The rooms have been updated and look nice. The bed was comfortable and there was a bar fridge. The free breakfast was okay for light breakfast. The cleaning staff were very helpful. The bathroom was tiny but fine, could however, do with deep clean of the grout on the floor and bottom of shower.
- Leaf (10/5): -
- Detlev (8/5): Würden wir wieder wählen. - Gute Lage und das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis Kein Aufzug, sehr mageres Frühstück
- Alexander (10/5): -
- Margaret (10/5): - The man who showed us to our room was very friendly and made us feel welcome
- Brandon (10/5): -
- Florence (10/5): Cozy , homey and I like the vibe - It’s close to the city , park and Museum, very convenient plus some cafes nearby . Plus there’s a bar upstairs and downstairs.
- Jessie (6/5): Adequate room, kind staff. - Very serviceable facilities and friendly staff. Breakfast was a nice touch. Although I mentioned that I was coeliac upon check-in, the staff were unable to give me any information on the cross contamination risk (or even the ingredients) of the breakfast provided, so I was sad not to be able to eat any of the breakfast. It should be easy enough to provide at least an ingredient list, so people with allergies can make their own decision about the risk, rather than have to go completely blind.
Also although my room was clean and fine, there was no window (the window that was there was painted over and sealed shut) which was a bit depressing. And the jug of water in the room, that was meant to be filed according to the welcome pamphlet, was empty on my arrival.
- Alex (10/5): -
- Matt (10/5): The deluxe rooms are great. very quite and cosy, Library area is great also -
- Matt (10/5): -
- Philippa (8/5): -
- ZuoJun (5/5): -
- Timothy (10/5): - Walking distance to the city centre and kings cross. Great restaurants around the corner in Stanley st. We were worried it might have been noisy when we arrived but this wasn’t a problem. The staff were helpful when we arrived.
- Florence (10/5): - I think the location , close to the city. Free breakfast and big room. None so far
- ainswalk (8/5): A pleasant stay in a comfortable hotel, with vintage character and well located. - The vintage hotel has plenty of character and a cosy bar to enjoy a pleasant evening drink. The location was perfect for the event we had visited Sydney to attend. The room was recently renovated and the bed was very comfortable. We had a simple, self-served, complimentary breakfast of granola with a fruit yogurt, followed by a pastry with Nespresso coffee and fresh fruit. It was just the right touch for an early morning start. The only drawback for seniors was walking up several flights of stairs to the 3rd floor with our luggage on stressed hips and knees, as there was no lift.
- Amelia (9/5): Great location, great pub underneath. - Nice breakfast included. Pub underneath was awesome. Great location! Nothing
- Jill (8/5): - .
- Kar Hang (6/5): -
- Vishal (10/5): - Perfect for work trip.
- Stephanie (6/5): - While I liked my room and the general area of the hotel, I did not like that there was no accessible staff or help desk. Also, it felt unsafe to me because while there are keys required to enter the room floors, all doors were open without a key required. It felt like a hostel because it was very independent. Breakfast was offered but one day it was not served and then the other a whole spread was served with croissants, yogurt, coffee, pastries, etc. Also, the rooftop was not open other than on the weekend. It attempts to be a hipster and cool spot but there is no information on those spots being open only on the weekend. In addition, access to the rooftop requires that people go through the room floors which would also make it feel even more unsafe. While I really wanted to like this spot, I paid too much for what I got...
- valerie (8/5): Good value, lovely staff, old style with modern touches, would reccomend, value for money in a city centre, great locati - Quirkiness, old style but with lovely modern touches. Loved the quiet library , so interesting, and continental breakfast included was a surprise bonus. Staff were all very nice Need to ask for a room furthest away from stairs to kazbar roof top to avoid noise. Although overlooking street, noise not too bad.
- Fran Flanery (9/5): - The staff were very accommodating and reception was amazing. The breakfast room was delightful and loved having coffee in the afternoon there. The room was lovely and would definitely stay again. Close to the CBD Very busy area.
- fahi (8/5): - Property dose have a caracter and it was clean, but i dont think it matches the pictures. No lift and no receptionists. I think with that price i could have get somewhere better. I might be wrong. But overall no complain.
- Roland (4/5): - Room was appropriately accommodated with clean room and bathroom and good presentation. Restaurant was nice downstairs with good options for food and drinks. Bed was Window was single glazed and cars were very audible, even though the window was closed I could feel a cold breeze. Worse part was I got no sleep, as the auto locking door kept trying to lock every 30 or so minutes and this was very very audible all night l.
- Lyndsey (7/5): Great - It was clean and very comfortable. Staff were welcoming and offered to assist with bags. Convenient having pub downstairs for meals. Didn’t get any noise from the street or pub in the room though. The property looked nothing like the photos - which was disappointing, however that being said room was still extremely comfortable. A lot of stairs to get to rooms.
- joan marie (8/5): - Convenient to all my needs All good
