Guest Reviews
- Chris (10/5): A grand stay at a beautiful old hotel. Would go again - A most beautifully restored grand old dame of a building. We had a room on floor 2 with a magnificent view. The style of the restoration is fantastic and the room was spotless and spacious. The bathroom was also huge and beautifully renovated. Nothing
- Jeff (10/5): - Grand Hotel! Grand Location!
- Colin (9/5): -
- Guy (8/5): - Good Location

- Susanne (9/5): Comfortable, pleasant, picturesque - Tastefully renovated and centrally located in pretty Portarlngton
- James (4/5): Definitely not good value for the $288 per night cost. - Location great. The receptionist was very helpful when she returned from assisting another customer. The staff, in general, were very helpful. Not enough staff to cope with the workload. The bedroom was quite small with a wardrobe, fridge and small table leaving very little space around the bed and the view from our bedroom window was of a galvanized iron roof.
- Peter (8/5): Luxurious - The design and layout of the hotel was beautiful. Bed was comfy, and room was clean
- Lynn (9/5): - We were picked up at the ferry terminus upon our arrival.
We were driven to a winery for lunch then picked up afterwards and taken back to the ferry. Unfortunately there was no breakfast served
- Anna (10/5): -
- christine (9/5): - So quiet in the morning. Couldn't believe it.
- Deirdre (5/5): Disappointing - The booths downstairs we loved
Where we sat together playing cards The windows were filthy
Room 206 was cold
Unfortunately fire alarm woke all of us up we were all fast asleep
We did not feel confident to stay after evacuation
Then told there was no refund for the rest of our booking for 2 more nights đdisappointing
- Peter (9/5): Wonderful location and fabulous staff. - The hotel is in a superb location overlooking the harbour but the best feature is the staff who could not have been more friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and even extended to a free shuttle bus ride to a winery restaurant and back again to the ferry despite the fact that we had already checked out. The reviews of the restaurant were not good so we ate at other restaurants nearby. They are in the process of dealing with this issue.
- Carmelo (9/5): Very good - Good All good
- Eddy (9/5): -
- Ulrich (9/5): -
- Stuart (8/5): -
- Sharne (7/5): Good - Clean and modern rooms Gutters dripping when it rained kept us up all night.
- Darren (10/5): Have stayed in many places around the world and the reason The Grand stay stood out was the staff. - Close to the beach .
Service was excellent .
Had a drop off and pick up bus service Paid the same price for different size rooms .
One room was larger than the other best rooms in the hotel . Our friends room was a lot smaller and we felt should have been cheaper
- Ellen (8/5): -
- Emily (10/5): Relaxing - Comfortable bed, great location and modern bathroom N/A
- Stacey (10/5): Beautiful rooms - Beds and bathrooms are unreal!!! Great location right in the middle of the street Nothing really.

- Chris (10/5): Just a touch of class - You definitely get a feel of the âGrandâ nature of this historic building, with the eye to detail of the furnishings and old charm. Modern updates have been well balanced in keeping with the hotels character. Spent the weekend of the Mussel festival enjoying the food and atmosphere. Live band in the evening was a pleasant surprise in the open bar. A special mention to Miki who made us feel very welcome and was extremely helpful, and not to forget the other amazing staff in the bistro, bar and room service. Will be back again.
- John (8/5): - The location of the hotel was great and the parking.
With the bistro inside the hotel and the cafe, bakery and other shops all near by and the beach so close it's a great spot.
- Angela (10/5): -
- Sue (10/5): Nice and roomy, quiet, great large car park , lovely staff. - Location and facilities No clean towels left for 2nd day
- Alison (10/5): - Great room with balcony, room was very generous in size as was the bathroom. Could have used some plates and access to cutlery
- Leah (8/5): -
- Mary (8/5): The Portarlington Grand Hotel provided a very comfortable and convenient base to explore the Bellarine peninsula. - Location is excellent whether arriving by car or ferry. The room was very comfortable and clean. I didnât dine at the hotel. Access and directions to hotel reception and accommodation to and from the car park could be improved. Access to hotel accommodation outside of hotel opening hours not clear. Limited number of rooms with attractive sea views.
- Narelle (10/5): Would definitely stay here again! - Loved the historical/contemporary feel and decor. The room was comfortable and clean. The staff very welcoming and friendly It was a picturesque location and a perfect stay! All was good.
- Darren (8/5): - Great location, the reception staff were very accomodating and willing to assist where ever required. We were unable to order or obtain a meal after 8pm.
- Ashley (10/5): cozy & historically cute stay - this was the cutest historical hotel ever! the inside is renovated, but still has that historical element. the room was gorgeous, and the bed was so COMFORTABLE! i couldâve slept in there the entire trip! the bathroom was clean, modern & the facilities were great. we loved how easy it was to get around town because the hotel was central to everything. the lift was out of order for around two of the days, so when we checked out, we had to carry our suitcase down the stairs. my poor legs hated the stairs hahaha even though the stairs are gorgeous!
- L (7/5): - Loved the location, room was lovely and view was amazing. The bed was really comfortable and shower was good size. For the price of the room a coffee pod machine would be nice rather than a kettle.
- Elisha (9/5): - Welcoming staff, taking us to our room and giving a mini tour of the room.
Beautiful decor and well thought out amenities in the room. No complaints.
- Vivienne (10/5): -
- Jill (8/5): Fantastic staff. Special thanks to Isaac who was so helpful and cheerful - Beautiful room, spacious bathroom, great balcony, excellent staff Squeaky floorboards as people upstairs moved around.
Loud music from the bar (but it didnât go too late)
- Col (9/5): Portarlington Pub is perfect. - Hospitality and service were first class. We didn't help by arriving just before meal service. Staff were great, food excellent, plenty of parking and right on the foreshore. Nothing to report here.
- Wachtel (8/5): -
- Penny (8/5): - Sensational central location. Beautifully appointed room. Spotlessly clean. Very friendly, helpful staff.
- Convey (8/5): Nicely refurbed complimenting hotel herritage. -

- Brenda (9/5): -
- Michael (10/5): -
- Andrea (10/5): -
- Phil (9/5): Wonderful spot to explore a beautiful part of Victoria in easy reach of Melbourne - Even though it's evident that the restoration of the hotel required a huge investment it has retained the charm and character appropriate for the seaside village location. Just some of the trivia questions.
- Constantino (9/5): -
- Suzi (10/5): Our favourite hotel, canât wait to come back - We loved everything about our stay at our favourite hotel. Only that we had to leave.
- Vishna (10/5): Fabulous - Great design great amenities lots of room
- Diana (10/5): Blissful - Grand by name and grand all over. Friendly customer service. Gorgeous and well loved building. Very good tea&coffee provided. Bathroom was spacious, terrific tiles throughout. Great room furnishings - and a lift and parking. Plus views across the bay. Sigh. Only positive things to say.
- John (9/5): Wonderful 3 days ! - Great position in the centre of town. Our room had a great balcony where we enjoyed breakfast each morning. Canât think of anything that could be better.
- Michael (9/5): - excellent breakfast
- Alice (9/5): -
- Senay (10/5): -
- Wendy (8/5): -
- Jordan (8/5): -
- Frank (8/5): Had a great stay. Room was lovely. Wish the Bistro was better. No atmosphere, noisy, food ordinary - Did not have breakfast there Disappointed in the meals and noisy bistro
- Judith (10/5): -
- Martin (8/5): -
- Kane (9/5): -
- Lois (6/5): Quite nice - Clare who greeted us was very friendly
Room was in excellent condition
Bed was comfortable Thumping Music in a nearby room began at 7:30am. I told a staff member who just looked blankly - no apology
There was no tea nor coffee in the room even though there was a kettle
Minimal choice of food in the restaurant.
- Kay-Cie (5/5): -
- Elizabeth (9/5): Excellent stay in comfort with very friendly and helpful staff. - Well renovated and very comfortable. The restaurant was convenient and we enjoyed the meals there. The staff were exceptional at every point especially in the restaurant. Delightful people. Unfortunately the blind in our room got stuck on the first night which meant I had a broken sleep and restless night with light coming in. The young man very easily explained and rectified the problem the next day.
- Alae (10/5): - Staff were very kind and hospitable. Went out of their way make our stay enjoyable. Room has been recently renovated and the view from our balcony was spectacular. They also deliver a continental breakfast to the room which is a lovely touch.
- Christopher (8/5): - Duscounted outdoor balcony setting.
- Andrew (1/5): Great place but ruined by rude Barwon Water workers. will be taking it up with them - room was nice. also view from the balcony Location was next to noisy Barwon water repairs which kept us up a lot of the night. Hotel staff were supportive but maybe could've been better in communication and also maybe offered us a discount. It really turned us off the area in general. Barewon Water were rude and very inconsiderate.
- Marco (10/5): -
- Siegmund (8/5): - great position,no view

Not an 'accessible' friendly hotel
- Duncan (9/5): Beautifully restored hotel - Great room with balcony overlooking the ocean. Large shower room and adjacent wash basins area. The room had been recently renovated to a very high standard. Very clean and comfortable. friendly staff. The hotel had a bistro and bar, although we did not eat there. Generally excellent, although the function space next door did seem very loud until about 9.30.
- Bloom (10/5): excellent stay - excellent stay
- Julian (10/5): exceeded our expectations would stay again - comfort and impressive bathroom Tap in the shower was a bit finicky buy once i got the hang of it it was fine

All the staff friendly and helpful. Live music, great atmosphere, beer on tap perfect and screens to watch the footy. Dinner in the Dining room and had the best Scotch Fillet. Definitely go back again!

- Thea (10/5): Great stay. Highly recommend! - Comfortable bed
Hot shower with great pressure
Mickie was very friendly and showed us to our room Nil
- Michelle (7/5): Good - Decor, styling, Location The only issue was the crack in the door. It allowed a light streak across the bed.
- Graham (10/5): Everything was first class. - The staff, very welcoming, friendly and helpful.
The bed and bedding, the shower, all the nice touches in the room. Nothing
- Robyn (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent accommodation, friendly and cooperative staff, and great location I feel that the option of room service for meals would be 'the icing on the cake'.
- Robert (10/5): Weekend Stay and QTrain Booking - We really enjoyed our stay, and we loved this beautifully renovated property. The room and ensuite were large and definitely had that well preserved classic charm of a historic property.
- Matthew (10/5): Beautiful renovation! Great locale! Yummy breakfast with vegetarian options! - We especially enjoyed the close proximity to the open air market and the marina! The bathroom was enormous & the manager kindly let us park our (expensive) custom folding travel bicycles in the room (bathroom). Plenty of space!
