Guest Reviews
- Eric (10/5): We will definitely be back to stay , we only wish we could’ve stayed longer - Gorgeous historical cottage so close to the Centre of town , with a beautiful garden and views Nothing
- Sascha (10/5): Lovely - Relaxing
- alan (9/5): - The cottage is just beautiful and so homely, a great spot. Our overseas guests loved it .
- Craig (8/5): Lovely cottage in a beautiful village - Authentic historical cottage with a creek right out the front door Nothing
- Kim (8/5): -
- Melanie (9/5): Smiles all round! - The Grounds were lovely, and the house comfortable. Loved the privacy of the gardens and enjoyed the history telling in your writeup. Bed was a bit squeaky, we would wake each other up if we rolled over, but it was comfortable. Was a little concerned about how hubby would go accessing property with mobility issues, but he did ok. A grabrail would be very much appriciated, but definately not a deal breaker....would book again without hesitation...and look forward to staying again. My furbaby had an absolute ball exploring and couldn't stop smiling! Totally wore himself out! Thankyou for sharing your space with us ❤️

- Christopher (8/5): - Quaint historic cottage in the heart of Walhalla. Good cooking facilities although you'll need to bring all your own condiments. Bed was firm and bizarrely set up with an electric blanket (in January!). Internet worked on day 1.
- Vicki (9/5): Lovely cottage and garden was a delight! - Loved the history of the property and appreciated the information regarding the history of the property and Walhalla in general. No complaints - except as an Melbournian who loves coffee, a coffee machine/ pods/ pot would be great, given limited cafe opening hours!😀
- Kaylene (10/5): - Thank you, Fiona, we had a wonderful time at your lovely little cottage.
I would certainly recommend your cottage. We loved Walhalla and the very interesting history. The volunteer's that keep the town going, thank you.

- Melissa (9/5): Beautiful - Loved the location. The cottage, the history behind the cottage. Good communication with owner. Prompt replies. Comfortable and scenic. Also loved reading the cottage’s history and the town itself was stunning. Also beautiful garden. Considering there was no shops for 40km, my only suggestion was maybe proving some body wash for the shower (I didn’t think to bring my own as previous accomodations have provided this and the first night we got there there was only about 1cm left in an old bottle )

- McD (10/5): wondrous weekend in Walhalla, a nirvana. a paradise .... - the olde world charm, the cosiness, the unassiuming ambience that transported my to my childhood , the surrounds leaving
- Philippa (10/5): Spetts Cottage was a delight; quaint, cosy and comfortable. - Quaint cottage, easy to find and exceeded our expectations. A step back in time with everything we needed for a historical fact finding weekend. Care needed when walking across the slippery bridge to access the property.
- Alison (10/5): Loved it highly recommend - The cottage was beautiful and quirky, comfortable and quite ,,tv worked ,dogs enclosed and safe we loved it Not much but didn't realise you cannot buy any groceries in town
- Linda (10/5): Great little cottage, so much history in this home. Great location, beautiful gardens and surrounds, would definitely st - Beds were rock hard.
- Sascha (10/5): Awesome - Relaxing
- Darren (9/5): Excellent - Tim tams in the fridge Nothing
- Zahra (10/5): Exceptional -
- Valentine (10/5): Exceptional - It felt like staying overnight in a piece of history, deeply rooted in Australian culture. The renovated bathroom was very pleasant after our 20km trail. Perhaps it needs a small bedside lamp in the master bedroom.
- Tracy (5/5): The house is old and beautiful but there’s a difference between old and unclean, it’s a shame at over $300 a night to be - So close to town, so peaceful and tranquil, the old charm was beautiful Bed was extremely uncomfortable and squeaky, pillows and bedding stained and hairs everywhere, toilet very unclean, very very dusty, fridge very dirty, cobwebs, the place needs a really good clean when your paying $300 a night I love the whole very old feel of the cottage and town but so disappointed in the un cleanliness of the place ☹️ (I needed a bandaid and the Medikit bandaids were so old and stained I couldn’t use them)
- Grace (8/5): Very good -
- Carla (10/5): Idylic cottage with history, charm and every convenience. - Perfect location, perfect cottage, gorgeous town! The cottage is original but maintained, apart from the bathroom which is conveniently and tastefull modernised. Love that it's dog friendly too. The yard is huge and gorgeous, the sounds of the birds and the stream separating the property from the street are idyllic, and you're a short walk to the shops. The house, like the town, is oozing with local history. You'll have everything you could need, and the host is super lovely and easy to communicate with. We will DEFINITELY be back! Leaving!
- Michael (7/5): Nice, but not great value. - Beautiful location and historic town. Lovely garden, nice cottage. The lounge room has a dusty musky smell, maybe like smoke. Coffee was expired, and the bed was average.
- Tony (10/5): - Lovely historic cottage surrounded by delightful gardens and an easy walking distance to the wonderful attractions of Walhalla.
- Sonya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alyse (10/5): Exceptional - Loved everything about the cottage.
- Michael (8/5): Genuine old gold town place. Will be back in summer for the trail walks! - Wallhalla is a genuine old town experience with mostly heritage buildings buried in bushland. Complete remote bush getaway. The Cottage was 1871 built with enough mod cons to be comfortable but not totally at the expense of the "old charm". Really loved it! Unfortunately the power went out on the first night(regional outage) and wasn't forecast to be on for a while. Fiona was very reasonable and gave us a full refund on the 2nd night without any fuss.😊 Patchy mobile and GPS coverage. To be expected though.
- Elzbiata (9/5): history at your fingertips, peace, quiet and relaxation - Beautiful garden, fire pit and location
- Baida (9/5): Superb - We loved that it was pet friendly and we could bring our kitten along. On arrival we were surprised that there were so many antiques in the cottage and yet they are still pet friendly. Thankfully Cookie was the perfect respectful guest. It was pitch black outside. A few more sensor solar lights would be good.
- Robyn (8/5): The house was perfect for a stay in an old time township. - Beautiful garden, great location, traditional home Creaky bed
- Sophie (9/5): Peaceful and wonderful - Walhalla is a lovely place to visit. The reason for our visit was so my partner and I could spend a day up in Mount Baw Baw. The cottage was very clean. The heater was turned on before our arrival so the place was just starting to get warm when we arrived. The wifi worked perfectly. A TV + most of the channels were available. Electric blankets were on all the beds, which was great. The bathroom has been renovated, which we appreciate. There is still a cottage feel to the place though! Tim tams and a small long life milk were placed in the fridge (love that for us!) Coffee sachets and sugar were available. We brought our own as we weren’t sure but if you’re reading this review before you stay here, don’t worry about bringing your own!
My partner and I are both with Vodafone and we had reception in Walhalla. It’s 3G but full bars. In the property description, I noticed it only says Telstra (+ a few other small telecoms) are available in the area. You can add Vodafone to this list! :) It took awhile to heat up the whole cottage. We had to close off a few places (such as the small bedroom and bathroom) just so we could feel the warmth from the heater in the lounge room. It would’ve been fantastic to have a fully functional electric fire place. I’m surprised this is not to be used by guests?
- Resel (10/5): Exceptional - Enjoyed everything the cottage, history and beauty of the place.
- Sarah (10/5): Perfect for a short stay close to town -
- Stephen (9/5): Very comfortable except for the operation of the shower. - Not provided. We provided all our own food. The operation of the shower.
- Susan (9/5): Superb - Its history I didn’t like it being haunted!!
- Jo (9/5): Wonderfully relaxing and incredibly interesting stay - Gardens, history, artefacts, provenance, location, creek/bridge, cosy, fittings and interior design A small investment in higher quality towels (a bit damp and worn) and bedding would significantly uplift an already great experience
- Robyn (9/5): Very old worldly cottage. Very cute to stay in and feel immersed in the gold mining era. - The place was very historic including g the furniture. Loved that they kept it in period except for the bathroom which I appreciated being updated. The blind on the outside bedroom door was broken & we had to jury rig a bath towel to not let any light in so we could sleep.
- Elizabeth (8/5): No problems, small query I had was resolved immediately - Breakfast was not applicable, location was excellent & very peaceful There is nothing I did not like, one has to realise the age of the property & history,so you do not expect 5star accomodation.,all in all we were very happy
- Trevor (10/5): - What a lovely place to stay and soak up the character of this marvellous village.
- Karen (10/5): - Very nice stay , enjoyed cottage
- Christine (10/5): Exceptional - The location and the garden.
There was everything one needed in the kitchen. It was very cosy in the lounge.comfortable big chairs and leather couch. The lighting was really lovely.cute lampshades. The single bed could have been a bit more comfortable. I felt the springs whilst sitting up in bed.
- Lee (9/5): We loved it - We loved spending 2 days in history
- Debra (8/5): Had a great time and will visit again. - The location was fantastic. Facilities were great. Clean and tidy There was a musky smell to the house because it is so old.
- Evangeline (9/5): Superb -
- Tony (10/5): great - The location was great Unfortunately we lost power which was a pain but a suggestion would be to install a tap directly off the water tank so buckets of water can be obtained easily to use for flushing the toilets.
- Alison (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - We loved the cottage and history of the cottage.
Will definitely stay there next time.
- Margaret (8/5): We had a wonderful time. Spett's Cottage was an ideal spot close to all the attractions. - We especially enjoyed the beautiful garden and the cottage-y feel of the property. A lovely trip down memory lane for two old ladies, but it may not appeal so much to younger folk.
- Deborah (9/5): Superb - An idyllic location in a remote and historic area. It was very interesting to wander the streets, the tramline walk and learn about the history of this goldfield township and to take the gold mine tour. Our stay was not long enough to fit in a ride on the Walhalla railway.
- Sharon (10/5): Absolutely beautiful ! - Exceptional property .. close to town and all attractions .. steeped in history but with modern conveniences .. very good wifi and stunning gardens .. the owners should be very proud of this delightful cottage !.. Fiona was great to deal with and answered any queries I had promptly and efficiently .. loved it ! Nothing !
- Linda (10/5): A wonderful couple of days relaxing and exploring with the family in this lovely town. - A charming, historic cottage set in stunning gardens. A lovely place to relax, great location, walking distance to town. Clean and comfortable, had all amenities required. Fiona was informative, helpful and prompt with communication. Didn't want to leave.
- Ashlee (10/5): Perfect city escape! - The cottage was so perfect for our long weekend away. Great location and beautiful gardens. We loved it!! Would love to stay again!
- Justin (10/5): The ghost didn’t kill us - Beautiful Would have been great to know the pub was not open on certain nights for food . We had no dinner
- Lisa (8/5): Very good - Beautiful location and a lot to see and do.
- Graham (10/5): incredible authentic experience - mainly everything We just have to say that your property was wonderful to stay in but it had a very bad smell mainly in the lounge room but throughout. we thought it might have just been the smell of a cottage that is very old.
- Kho (9/5): It’s great - Beautiful garden and homy I’d like more soft pillows for the bedroom
- Jzim (9/5): Lovely stay , comfortable, relaxing, peaceful. Lovely decor well thought out and totally in keeping. - There was no breakfast , but there was milk and basics supplied
- Kathryn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jim (8/5): Great for a weekend break - Cottage full of character, nicely furnished in Walhalla style, good size for 2 couples, good kitchen facilities and pub within walking distance. Nice setting with creek at the bottom of the garden. Chilly nights and wet winter weather mean a cold feel in the house until the heating kicks in.
