Geraldine and David were warm and gracious. As we had the whole cottage to ourselves they gave us the seaside bedroom which was beautiful. It had an electric fireplace in the room which was warming as it was cold outside. Breakfast was yum and conversation was pleasant and engaging. Our hosts couldnt do enough to make our stay more comfortable.
Restaurants, shops and the Nut were close by.
Parking very secure
- Karen (10/5): Fabulous place to stay , an absolute treat. - We loved absolutely everything about this property. Our hosts Geraldine and Dave were fabulous. Nothing was a problem. A beautiful cooked breakfast, served in the fabulous kitchen space. Warm and cosy, an easy walk to town and the Nut! They gave us lots of suggestions as to local history and restaurants. Will definitely stay there again. Nothing!
- Robert (10/5): Wonderful location! Great accommodation! Great hosts! - The location is outstanding, right next to the seafood restaurant and great views of the docks and countryside over the little harbour. Very beautiful interior with amazing period furniture, great pieces of work through the house. The kitchen was huge and the food available for breakfast was fantastic. The hosts were most wonderful by offering to cook breakfast everyday which was lovely. The place is clean, upmarket and very comfortable to stay in. The bedrooms were like being transported back in time! It is a WONDERFUL property close to everything and very comfortable indeed! Great value for money. Exceeded expectations! Nothing. Everything was perfect. There was nothing that I would change.
- B (10/5): Exceeding Expectations - Very welcoming open hosts who offer lovely facilities and great guest care. When i jokingly added "boerewors" (unique South African sausage) to the breakfast menu selection, the host drove to Burnie to source some (not easy to find) and lo and behold it appeared on my plate for breakfast! Fantastic service - above and beyond!
- Graham (9/5): Superb -
- warrick (10/5): Poet's Cottage pleasures - The Poet's Cottage was an absolute delight. My wife and I had not been to Stanley for 20 years and chose the cottage based on the description and comments on accomodation.com.
The cottage itself couldn't have been in a better location. Walking distance to restaurants and the Stanley Hotel and views from the front window. Everything was presented beautifully, and our hosts Dave and Geraldine were so easy to talk to and very knowledgeable with regard to the Northwest of Tasmania.
Dave cooks a great breakfast while Geraldine attends to your coffees and toast. We could not have been more spoiled.
Go to Stanley, enjoy the Poets Cottage and wind down for a while.
fantastic place to stay.
- Waldock (9/5): Superb -
- Raymond (10/5): Exceptional -

- Evan (10/5): - Great location and hospitality. Enjoyed our time at Poets Cottage
- Martin (9/5): The best of several short stays we had in Tasmania. Don't miss it. - Amazingly restored home with three ensuite bedrooms and a lounge and dining area/kitchen which we shared with other guests the one night but had the whole house to ourselves the second. Very comfy and great hosts, former Capetonians Geraldine and David Coy, who supplied us with a charcoal Weber for our lamb chop braai. We took in fairy penguins, dairy tour and cheese tasting, and Tarkine rainforest walk as part of an Arthur River drive. Awesome. David’s toasted egg, bacon and cheese sandwiches for breakfast on the road were memorable. Highly recommended. Freer movement around the bed would be worth looking into. Easy to bump into things.
- Annette (10/5): - Would stay here again.
- Catherine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brian (10/5): Can fully recommend - Well maintained good location & perfect hosts

So beautifully appointed but with a family coziness that made you feel at home. The gardens were gorgeous with carefully placed garden furniture to invite you outdoors to enjoy. Poets Cottage is well situated to awesome restaurants and tourist attractions. The hosts Dave and Geraldine were outstanding and made our stay so memorable. They made us feel at home and Dave’s cooked breakfast were the absolute best. We were thoroughly spoilt. You would be very hard to please if you could find anything negative at this exceptional property.

Comfortable in every aspect, spotlessly clean , beautifully furnished and lovely , friendly hosts . Breakfast was delicious too . The house is in a great position with a lovely aspect . N/A
- Vanessa (9/5): Wonderful stay with welcoming hosts. - Friendly hosts, delicious food, amazing kitchen, beautiful location, interesting history and little penguins! The only problem we had was there were no curtains or blinds in the family room which meant the young kids didn’t get to sleep well.
- Michael (9/5): Superb - Everything N / A
- Neil (10/5): Absolute perfection. Highly recommend. - Everything was perfect! Geraldine and David are great hosts.
- Sarah (10/5): Give yourself a treat. But book early! - A wonderful finale to my holiday with 3 nights at Poet’s Cottage. An 1849 school has been exquisitely refurbished by Geraldine and Dave. My room was beautiful, and the living room too. Breakfasts were terrific (I chose omelettes). The hosts were beyond helpful. Parking was convenient, on the property. Barry the dog is a bonus. Two doors up is the superb Hursey’s seafood restaurant; in fact everything was convenient, such as the Nut chairlift, museum (very sweet), beaches, penguins, and cafes like Touchwood. A short drive to Highfield House. Stanley is lovely, and this is the pick of the accom.
- Cameron (10/5): Historical and practical. Lots of room and interest, and a big hit with our family of 'grown kids'. - Great location in town, near the surprisingly interesting Jetty. The pics don't really do the old house justice - it is just gorgeous, with some delightful sea views out of the front room and bedroom windows. Our family enjoyed reading from the book collection, and also felt quite spoiled that the hosts cooked up a lovely breakfast for us.
- Ling (10/5): - Heart-warmed by the incredible hosts who made our stay truly special, complete with a delicious hot cooked breakfast to start each day. We loved spending time with their friendly dogs, who enjoyed all the petting! The charming antique furniture combined with modern conveniences created the perfect blend of comfort and character. Highly recommend!
- Suzanne (10/5): - Wow! Wow! Wow! What a place.
175 yrs old and a delight to stay in, loved the house and its history. Rooms were perfect with charm and elegance.
Hosted by Gerry and Dave made the stay even better what a lovely couple and the morning supplied cooked breakfast made a perfect start to the day. 10/10 best B&B ever. Scott & Suzi Wilson
- Shirley (10/5): Very pleasant, the Owners were always checking if you needed anything else. So 100% for them. - Breakfast was excellent and Owners were very polite and considerate to my Wife's mother who was 82 years old. She enjoyed her 2 days stay at the cottage. The Owners also invited us to come and have breakfast with her. The additional coat was very competitive. I think that at the back they need to install a light Sensor so that when you approach the back entrance the light will automatically come on. My wife's mother uses a walker and she had no problem getting around with her walker.
- Youyang (9/5): Lovely stay with Geraldine and Dave - Geraldine and Dave were great, attentive hosts. I was the only guest during the stay and so it felt like I had the whole cottage to myself. They gave me all the tips I needed and I was able to maximize my stay in Stanley. It's a lovely little town with The Nut being the highlight. Would definitely recommend this stay. No complaints!
- Marguerite (9/5): Lovely, personable hosts and great location. - The hosts were very hospitable and made our stay memorable. We will certainly stay again sometime. There was nothing to improve.
- Cindy (10/5): A wonderful telaxing long weekend. Poets Cottage is our home in Stanley we will return. - Beautiful Heritage cottage in walking distance to everything. Fabulous hosts Geraldine and David were very generous with their time and knowledge.

, interesting , comfortable full of colour , art and light .
Geraldine and Dave made you feel very welcome with a light hearted warmth
- Ben (10/5): History of property was amazing as were the very welcoming South African owners. - Very unique boutique residence in great location. All good.
- Lyn (10/5): Beautiful accommodation in a picturesque part of the world. - Delightful hosts, Geraldine and Dave, made us feel so welcome in their beautiful home. A perfect way to spend time in Stanley. Nothing
- Sue (10/5): Fabulous!!!!! - We loved our stay here. Our hosts were gracious and cooked us a fabulous breakfast. Bowie, the host dog was a bonus. Loved his hugs. We had access to the whole house including a lovely lounge and fully equiped kitchen. The hosts live in a seperate house at the back. Stanley is an amazing location to explore. Highly recommend
- Mark (9/5): Simple outstanleying! - Terrific home-cooked to order breakfast by David. Lovely and interesting hosts who genuinely care about their guests and are passionate about Stanley. Would have been perfect if the double bed in the second bedroom could be separated into a couple of single beds. As it stands you probably wouldn't want to bring a family of more than 3 in total unless the kids are comfortable sharing a bed.
- Xinyi (10/5): Beautiful and comfortable place to stay - It is such a beautiful cottage contains many precious little things everywhere. The host prepared us a delicious breakfast and even prepared red light torches for watching penguins. I hope next time can stay longer with my friends
- Joni (10/5): - Beautifully restored home. Wonderful friendly and attentive hosts. Excellent breakfast. Excellent bed and bathroom. Very clean. No complaints or concerns. Would definitely stay again. 5 stars.
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional - A wonderful place - the whole house is simply beautiful and I hope to visit it again one day!
- Bronwyn (10/5): Exceptional - A beautifully restored historical property located in the main street with stunning views. The hosts were welcoming, friendly and helpful and served a delicious breakfast. We loved our stay and hope to return.
- Alison (10/5): Exceptional - We very much enjoyed our stay at Poets Cottage. It was perfect for my family as we had the family suite. Our hosts were amazing and we enjoyed the most delicious breakfasts ever. They also gave us a great tip on when and where to see the penguins which my son really enjoyed. I will be recommending Poets Cottage to my friends.
- Richard (10/5): Stanley has more to offer than meets the eye, and this was the perfect base to do so. I will certainly recommend to othe - A sympathetically restored property of great quality and lovely communal areas.
Hot breakfasts and coffees were made to order by David & Geraldine, who were the perfect hosts and who helped familiarise us with the local area, including Tarkine drive, penguin spotting, Highfield historic house etc. A minor point, but a bit more privacy in the upstairs bathroom, frosted window covering or blinds?
- Jasmeet (9/5): Superb -
- Gabriel (9/5): Very charming B&B. Lovely building, great stay, nice hosts. - Lovely renovated building, it has history and charm. Very nice hosts. They were happy to share advice and chit chat, without being "on your face" You need to be aware that a very old building does not come with all the amenities. Breakfast was generous but would love to have better bread. Really needed to think hard to find negatives!
- Paul (10/5): Warm, welcoming and beautiful! - Love our stay! Geraldine and David were awesome hosts; they went the extra mile to make our stay fantastic. Gave us great info on the local and nearby attractions. David was absolutely fantastic humouring my interest in his EV - added bonus to my trip. Everything was perfect except for the pillows - we found them to heavy and dense (others my like theirs this way); would have given 10/10 if the pillows were fluffy and softer. Highly recommend this beautifully renovated place to anyone.
- Sally (10/5): Excellent hosts and a wonderfully luxurious and relaxing stay in a beautiful location. - The hosts were exceptional. They could not do enough to make the stay relaxing and luxurious. We really liked our room and the beautiful old cottage that they have tastefully renovated. Nothing really to dislike.
- Brenda (10/5): - Very old house well maintained and decorated, no air conditioning but did not need it as the walls are so thick.
- Kayle (10/5): Perfect cottage in postcard-perfect Stanley - in poets cottage
sleepy Stanley outside
happiness you’ll find
Couldn’t help myself, had to write a poem in honour of our wonderful time at Poet’s cottage! The cottage is a beautifully restored Georgian home, cleverly transformed into a warm and comfortable bed and breakfast. Geraldine and Dave are wonderful hosts and the breakfast they provided was cafe quality with fun and interesting conversation. We enjoyed reading some of the books from the library whilst soaking in the sun in the front lounge, with Stanley harbour right out the window. Poet’s cottage is such a fitting place to stay in beautiful Stanley. We loved it and would highly recommend to anyone who wants to feel like they’ve dived right into the postcard picture Stanley experience.
- Lucy (10/5): Fabulous relaxing stay - Geraldine and Dave were wonderful hosts and the house is just gorgeous and in the perfect location. I loved my stay and will definitely revisit soon!
- Joe (10/5): Fantastic - Location excellent.
- Stuart (10/5): Stanley.perfection - Wonderful people. Beautiful rooms and overall facility. So welcoming we were invited to a local get together. Incredible stories to hear and read about the hosts on top of everything else. Buy the book...
- Rebecca (9/5): Superb - We stayed at Poet’s Cottage Stanley 26/27/28Sept. A very beautifully restored old style cottage in a very beautiful part of the world. Our hosts Dave and Geraldine were the warmest most welcoming couple you could hope to meet. Nothing was a trouble. Lovely home cooked breakfasts with all sorts of goodie’s available. They made our stay very enjoyable and I would not hesitate to recommend a stay with them when in that part of Tassie.
