Guest Reviews
- Julie (10/5): Perfect hotel, wish we could have stayed longer - So glad we stayed in this unique piece of history. The rooms are amazing. The pool was fantastic and the breakfast absolutely perfect. We would definitely recommend. Nothing, loved it.
- Lili (10/5): -
- Shenae (9/5): -
- Chloe (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sue (8/5): Unique stay at a unique place. - It was a unique stay at a unique place. Room was very comfy to live in. Bathroom was spacious. We had an issue with the sheets and they had to be replaced twice. Initially when we signed out the reception offered a free coffee!!! We had already organised to be elsewhere and couldn't accept. The manager later messaged for a free stay in lieu of the inconvenience but again we were from South Australia and already booked elsewhere for our stay. I messaged the manager back but he hasn't replied.
It was a very expensive stay here.
- Leesa (10/5): Building amazing, breakfast at north and common delicious, staff friendly, check in and out excellent. Cell was modern b - Most amazing experience in an iconic building in what use to be prison cells. Simply an experience I would highly recommend. Loved it all
- Gerald (9/5): Superb - Wonderful experience staying at Pentridge. It has been preserved with a lot of thought. Staff were excellent. Nothing.
- Akshal (9/5): Amazing place , would have been awesome if my bond was returned at checkout - Feel and vibe is very unique None! Definitely coming back
- Patrick (9/5): Superb -
- Janine (9/5): Superb -

- Elizabeth (9/5): Superb -
- Richard (8/5): Unusual and interesting stay, worth it to experience something different. - Expensive but unusual, staying in a historic prison. The sleeping arrangements were difficult for two of us sharing a bed-we needed to be very limber to climb in and out, and for the person who gets in first to climb over the other in the dark!
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leanne (9/5): Absolutely beautiful history and stay all in one. - Loved the layout and feel of the rooms and building. The only thing I didn't like was no fresh milk in the room and everything from the mini bar had to be ordered.
- Roman (8/5): Very good -
- Vivienne (9/5): Subtle, comfortable luxury in a compelling and dynamic location - Location is great, and the free bikes on offer are such a great idea! Wish I'd utilised this more, but there's always next time! The facilities on-site are impeccable - the pool even supplies towels, so that's one less thing to pack! And there's a supermarket within the Pentridge complex, which is insanely convenient. Some face washcloths in the room would have been pretty good. And patrons of the wine bar and restaurant can easily view you while swimming (I think I was filmed at one stage, which was not at all welcome).
- Emma (8/5): Very good - Beautifully designed, very unique experience. Pool is amazing and rooms are just awesome. Love how original parts of the prison have been incorporated into the new lux design Beds a little hard but that is personal preference. Also couldn’t seem to get the room aircon to cool down so was a bit warm in the night.
- Adam (6/5): - Really nice and unique place staying in an old prison .
But for a high end price tag I would have thought the mini bar would have had items .. but it was empty.
And no robes ! Thought that was a little odd also.
All in all, cool place that was different
- Jonathan (9/5): Quirky room in a former prison which has been redeveloped very well. - Quirky but exceptionally comfortable room Needs more signage indicating where elevator is situated.
- Sarah (10/5): A very very special hotel experience - The room was amazing! So special to relax in & notice all the wonderful design details. The service team was also wonderful. They made it feel special from checking in. Also, the mini bar is very reasonably priced ($22ish for a full sized bottle of wine). Dinner at the restaurant was very special too! Skip the breakfast at the restaurant - they missed items & what they brought took forever. Walk 200m for multiple options that looked better.
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Shaelah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alex (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mareena (10/5): Exceptional -
- Samantha (10/5): Luxurious and very interesting in view of its history. - The staff were amazing and very accommodating, always approachable and went out of their way to help.
The room was very luxurious and exactly what was expected.
The pool was easily accessible and convenient with towels, and shower facilities provided. We did try to have a glass of wine at the bar however we found limited options for ordering by glass but if staying for something to eat, then selection for a bottle of wine was great.
- Kylie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melissa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Danielle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nybz (10/5): Strongly recommend for lovers of history and those wanting to experience something different on their special day - Absolutely amazing! We were able to stay in the original cells which were converted to hotel rooms. The blue stone was kept in place and overall the vibe was fantastic Na
- Louise (9/5): Superb -
- Adam (9/5): Superb -
- Jodi (9/5): Superb -
- Katrina (10/5): Delightful , the staff were very welcoming and helpful. - The uniqueness of the Interlude is amazing , rooms are soundproof , bedding very comfortable and it is a “ bucket list “ place to go , with easy access and city trams within 100m The towels could be bigger and softer
- Cass (10/5): Most relaxing, amazing stay. - Everything. The history, the location, all the facilities and even down to the food! Nothing!
- Charlie (8/5): Very good - Nice building AMAZING! The rooms fantastic Nothing to do The bar closed. No room sevice
- Gustavo (4/5): Cool hotel with very bad service and boring - The concept is good and well done Pillows are awful
Restaurant closed on Mondays
Monday is like a ghost hotel - very bad
There’s signs saying that restaurant is open on Monday
No customer service
Staff don’t care about service
Expensive for what it offers
- Charlotte (10/5): - Everything was great.
- Jacqui (7/5): Fabulous place to stay! - Loved the ambience, loved the room, loved the wine bar (and the pate - my goodness that was amazing!) When we first arrived we were very confused by how the person who checked us in told us to get to our room. He didn’t show us - just stood behind the desk and pointed. It would have been good (especially given the price we paid!) to be taken to our room!
- Amy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rogers (7/5): Not to be missed. Soak in the history - Brilliant history on the Property with a really good integration of modern expectations and facilities. We needed to move rooms (cells) with plumbing and AV issues getting in the way of settling in
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing room - everything was amazing! Nothing.
- Rachael (10/5): Wonderful experience - Fantastic experience great feel. The only thing we did not love was the wine bar stops service at 10:30pm. But the service and facility was exceptional.
- Leah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kimberley (10/5): Perfect From Check In To Check Out - Everything It Was Being In A Different World Can’t Name Anything
- Chris (6/5): Looks beautiful, but.... - The fact it was originally Pentridge and the history involved. Beautiful restoration work and rooms look incredible. Relaxation pool is devine. Lots of things, the bed is in a cavity so you have to crawl over your partner to get in and out of the bed. The relaxation pool is available to the guests staying in the Adina apartments, which means children have access. This is not relaxing. No coffee sachets for when coffee machine is crap and doesn't work. Shower base doesn't drain freely so water spreads out on to bathroom floor. Music and noise from wine bar can be heard well into early morning.
- Keith (10/5): An unexpected delight - Unexpected delight staying in a well equipped and comfortable room converted from 4 original cells, with the original doors and bars at the windows. Excellent service from warm and friendly staff, with a must dine at restaurant downstairs (North & Common) and a beautiful residents pool and gym. Very good value for money and highly recommended
- Heidi (10/5): The entire stay felt sophisticated yet private. The interior design is remarkable, the restaurant and wine bar are excel - The design and fixtures were dark and opulent. The stone was beautiful and the wine bar and restaurant were excellent. The bed was comfortable and the size of the room surprisingly generous. The overall use of space was remarkable. The late checkout was amazing as we had a 7pm flight and there was not a lot to do outside of the property. Everything was great. Clean and well maintained beautiful design.
- Kerim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- Mareena (8/5): Very good -
- Sally (10/5): Unforgettable staycay which is a must - The uniqueness Wine bar needs baileys
- Samantha (9/5): Superb -
- Mikilin527 (9/5): Very Good - The building’s unique structure interesting, and I had an enjoyable and comfortable stay. N/A
- Christine (10/5): It was absolutely magical and unique. Spoiled from the moment we entered. - Unique and magical. Absolutely nothing.
- Paula (4/5): Not worth the money... - The heritage was great.. No instructions on where to park, room was freezing and had to call to get it turn on - took hours... room was not cleaned well and the shower leaked
- Bianca (10/5): Loved it location perfect the whole place was stunning so well done can’t wait to go back with friends - It was amazing clean stunning staff exceptional Nothing
- Carole (10/5): - Fantastic room
- Josh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ashlee (10/5): Beautiful and Cozy -
- Muharrem (10/5): Exceptional -
- Olivier (9/5): Will come back to hotel and bar - The room and bar were fantastic. Very quiet and peaceful. We will come back. Great pool also They have not clean our room the second day. They were too busy
We were disappointed of the service at the restaurant. Too many mistakes to list them
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Nothing
- Doris (10/5): Fabulous in every way. - The restaurant food was flawless and delicious, if anything it took nearly 45minutes to arrive. I would go again without hesitation.
- Greg (6/5): - Great concept and the rooms are well done, some staff were ok but check in staff are shared between Adina and Interlude, they weren't helpful or knowledgeable.
More than once when we asked questions, we were sent to someone else who then also may not have answers.
Biggest disappointment was some things are very different to what's advertised.
We were looking forward to enjoying time in the well-advertised Olivine Wine Bar, well too bad, despite it being advertised as a highlight and open 7 days a week (opening days have changed since we were there, not before) it wasn't open.
Interlude had no food or drinks available for the evening we stayed. We had to leave Interlude and go to the fast-food outlets in the external complex. We could exit Interlude and access the fast-food outlets from an internal complex door but to re-enter Interlude we weren't able to use the same door. Apparently for security reasons, so we had to exit the complex and walk back via dimly lit foot paths. Clearly the security being considered when this decision was made was not the security of paying guests.
The pool was advertised as exclusive to Interlude guests and 35 degrees, it was not exclusive, no private time as advertised and speaking with another person there he'd measured the water temp as 27 degrees. It was cold.
Breakfast was very good, great service and good food.
All in all, a great concept very poorly executed and very little concern for providing what is advertised to the paying guest.
- Evelyn (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful restoration of the prison to make a beautiful boutique style hotel. It was a lovely stay with a difference in the element of not so distant history behind it. The pool was cold. Please increase the temperature of the pool a little more. Providing some bathrobes to use to get to and from the pool would be nice. Also, an offering of better pillows would be a good idea.
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional - Great experience if looking for something different..
- Sacha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Adam (9/5): Superb -
- Melanie (9/5): Superb -
- Marwah (9/5): The interlude met our expectations. - I enjoyed the atmosphere and the prison tour.
- Alessandra (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kerry (10/5): Staff were so friendly. Beautiful accommodation. Everything superb - Wonderful experience and beautiful accommodation. Loved everything
- Catherine (8/5): Very interesting property to stay in & explore..wonderful pool - Different Cold room
- Haxhije (10/5): Exceptional - Everything.
- Kerim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ashley (8/5): A great experience that I would highly recommend to those who are interested, although don’t expect an overly comfortabl - The developer has done a great job modifying the property to be a hotel while keeping any aspects of the original building intact. It was such a great experience to see the space and hear the history while there. The hotel is marketed as a luxe hotel with a hefty price tag. Although I understand the cost from an experience perspective, the finer details I would expect for a luxe hotel were missing. For example, bed was not very comfortable, pillows were soft, the water from the shower ran outside the door and on to the carpet.
- Daniele (10/5): Exceptional -
- Iuly (9/5): Superb - After using a credit card at the hotel, I had to cancel it because the data was stolen and payments were made for a large amount of money
- Kathy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kerrin (10/5): Exceptional - The atmosphere was fantastic
We had the best meal at north and common and enjoyed olivine both nights
- Gregory (1/5): Overhyped, not worth the money - Looked nice Staff were rude.
Directed us to use the lift that was broken.
Room didn’t have functional heating, and given it was 1 degree over night in a stone repurposed prison cell this is not ideal, not to mention it’s a $400 hotel room…
Polished turd in the perfect description.
- Cristina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Susan (10/5): Amazing!! This is a must stay - Absolutely everything!!! Was simply stunning.
- Jason (10/5): Fantastic. This was our second stay. Coming back again in December. - Excellent Breakfast 10/10. The Interlude was amazing, such a great experience 10/10. Lots of great places to see within walking distance. Staff were very friendly and helpful 10/10. Nothing to dislike. Everything was perfect.
- Shyniya (3/5): Would love an opportunity to see the place in all its grandeur once again if given the opportunity. - It was stunning and we were very excited to stay here for our anniversary. Unfortunately we had to move rooms THREE times, the heated pool wasn’t heated and there was a range of issues on the day. One room the shower didn’t drain the other didn’t have a TV etc….
- Raylee (9/5): Superb -
- Bianca (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brianna (8/5): It was really good, highly recommend - Cleanliness of the rooms, how comfortable the atmosphere was. The pool was amazing, however a little cold. The bathroom flooded when we had a shower.
- Micka (1/5): Bad -
- Amanda (10/5): Repurposed and fabulous - An extraordinary experience. Good food available within walking distance. Undercover, secure parking, history tour with National Trust a bonus The TV, unnecessary
- Joshua (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bauce (7/5): Good -
- Debbie (10/5): Great service, stunning property & amazing grounds - a wonderful experience! - The renovation was breathtaking! The bed was difficult for the person on the wall to get out without waking the other person
- Holst (9/5): Superb -
- Brendon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wendy (10/5): I can’t wait to stay again - I was SUPER impressed by the way the jail has been looked after.
