Guest Reviews
- William (8/5): Nice stay - It was ok
- qinghua (10/5): - Very good price and service
- Harvey (10/5): - My stay at the motel was very pleasant and peaceful. The room was very nice, clean, bright and safe. It served my overnight stay very well. I would highly recommend this motel if you are wanting an excellent environment without breaking the bank. Very good value for your dollar invested.
Enjoy.
- Mark (10/5): - Among 1 and 2 star motels along the trans canada hwy, this is one of the better ones I’ve encountered. Perfect place to stop when passing through, convenient grocery store 100 m away and a great bed.
- jianguang (4/5): - Broken window screen, dirty wall
- Pierre (10/5): - Newly renovated, very clean, quiet and affordable with all the amenities close by.Maybe some sugar for our morning coffee? There was only some artificial sweetener available.😇
- Fiona (6/5): - Clean and convenient. Uncomfortable plastic mattress cover on the bed. Taps in shower very wobbly.
- Lindsay (6/5): - It was good but we found a live cockroach that we killed
- Jaime Lynn (2/5): - Could not stay, even though I had already paid. The bathroom door barely opened since the toilet was right behind it. It was impossible to enter the bathroom. Waste of money. Would never recommend this motel to anyone. Ended up having to pay 500$+ for a last minute hotel in Winnipeg.
- Daniel (10/5): - It was priced very good. It was a nice cozy room.
- Darryl (10/5): - Other reviews seem to be a bit generous, but I am not dissatisfied. It has the usual issues, like mold around the bathtub caulking, dusty edges along the floor, a dated tub and scratched up furniture. The stay is perfectly fine, as long as you aren't expecting more than standard Motel experience. Not dingy, but not updated, simply put -- a roadside Motel.
- Scott (6/5): Pretty rough. - Small motel, parking is tight. The rooms are very basic and fairly rough. The motel is priced high for what it is. It's not bad for a quick place to stop. The owner was constantly doing maintenance, fixing things so that is a positive. However, there needs to be a better cleaning protocol. There was a beer can next to the night stand and a half loaf of french bread left in the dresser. There were also sketchy characters hanging around. The pics do not represent the room we had at all. Our room was not up to standards.
- Heather (8/5): - Clean, easy to access, inexpensive. Great if you're only using it to sleep and shower. Bed was quite soft, and sharing the bed made both people tended to roll into the middle
- Darren (8/5): - Was nice
- Kathleen (6/5): - Didn't like that desk clerk wanted a photo copy of my driver's license for my address
- Tara (10/5): - Beautifully organized and appointed. This is a hostel like none I have ever been to. The cafe is fabulous, more like a high-end retreat
- Dale (2/5): Ummm try another hotel - When we got into the room, there was so many flies. I was hitting them with a broom, the office girl and a man came to our wondering what the sound was and started hitting the flies with the fly swatter… we asked to be moved to another room which they did and the room was in better condition looked like it had been recently renovated somewhat. For compensation, the girl gave me a $10 Tim Hortons card whoopee
- Layne (8/5): - Quiet, clean, convenient
- Dawn (10/5): - Clean and quiet
- Brendon (10/5): - Was a nice place as a stay over on way through Manitoba
- SONIA (10/5): - Staff was fantastic. Friendly. Helpful. Welcomed our pets warmly. Bed was super comfy. We had a great sleep. We highly recommend this place.
- Jason (4/5): - The price point was way off I don’t mind a little run down motel room if clean, when cost of them is according. This was not a $120 motel room, in my mind it should have been $60 range max.
- Adrien (10/5): - Good
- William (6/5): - The room was small but comfortable and clean. Everything worked, but showed signs of age. It was fine for someone traveling alone on a motorcycle. A full and overflowing dumpster at the entrance which smelled bad n the 30 degree heat was not pleasant. Because the motel is the old motor court style when you sit outside in the provided lawn chairs you are looking at the other residents. When I was there it looked like a couple of rooms were people living there, a couple of people who seemed to be traveling cross country-like military members moving, and one patched biker at the end. The motel is very convenient to services like Popeyes, Boston Pizza, a Manitoba Liquor store, gas stations, and McDonalds. A good stop for a lone motorcycle rider.
- Sharon (8/5): - It was comfortable and close to shopping. Easy to get to and quiet
- Lauretta (8/5): - Plenty of hot water and good pressure for shower. Had fridge, coffee maker and microwave.
Bed was a little saggy but still comfortable and clean.
- Cindy (6/5): - Beds could be better
- joyce (6/5): Just okay! - Upon entering the room you could tell beyond a doubt that some had smoked in this room as soon point even though it was a nonsmoking room. Smelt of old cigarette smoke. Staff gave us room fresheners however you could still smell the smoke. The room was clean, beds were okay for comfort. The staff said they would switch rooms however only had one room left with just 1 double so not suitable for our needs.
- Kelly (8/5): - Lovely little hidden gem while travelling long days. Older but renovated and clean.
- Andrew (6/5): My honest review, great for short stay - The room itself was pretty good. Looked newly renovated. However, the bed is on wheels, so anytime I got in or out it rolled around. The little A/C unit worked like a charm for the room size. The bathroom is a very weird setup with the toilet and shower/tub behind a door and the sink and mirror in the room. The little desk seem old and doesn't fit the room right. But was a good room for what I needed, and a great value for the price. Also, the parking on the lot is very little. Not suitable if you have a trailer.
- Christopher (2/5): - I would not recommend this property to my worst enemy.
- Wendy (6/5): - It was a convenient location. The room looked good, but work stillneeds to be done
- Gordon (8/5): - Parking was a little tight but sufficient
- Jean (10/5): - I book on line was very surprised it was a great place to stay for overnight. We would different stay there again.
- Brodyn (4/5): - Staff was good, rooms were clean but surrounding area not very nice.
- Louise (10/5): - Very nicely renovated, super clean, very quiet, great location
- Steven (10/5): - Very friendly
- Rick (2/5): - Place was filthy. Stayed one hour then left in disgust giving up the money we had paid for the room. Never again!!!
- Jim (6/5): - Property was clean and the staff were friendly.
- Jerry (8/5): - Excellent lace to stay
- Berni (4/5): - New owners are not as immaculate as previous ones
Will never stay there again
- Bob (8/5): - It was clean
- John (6/5): - Functional. Older motel.
Clean.
Worked fine to escape the rain storm!
- Kaya (4/5): - Staff was friendly, property was a little rough looking.
- Paul (6/5): - The front desk girl was pleasant, the beds were very comfortable but the let down was the small bathroom and a dirty bath, definitely needs some TLC
was tge
- Monique (10/5): Exceptional - We were very pleased to have found this hotel. So comfortable, clean ans staf very friendly. Room in tge back was very quite, comfortable bed, pillows and bedding. Great breakfast. Highly recommended. Great price also.
- Jackie (10/5): - I had made a mistake with booking. They helped with it effortlessly and kindly
would highly recommend.💕
- Debby (10/5): - great for the price and clean
- vishal (2/5): - WORST experience ever, Electrical socket wasn't working, Rooms were smelling awful, Hardly a hot water to shower, Rooms heater wasn't enough room was super cold no heater in bathroom too, rooms floor was super cold. Staff were good and helpful but all this things was beyond there control. DO NOT EVER BOOK THIS.
- Shelley (8/5): - After my initial review of the property upon checking in the staff spoke to me and offered for us to change rooms. We were settled and declined. Did that because the room was clean and the beds comfortable. I appreciated that they tried to rectify the situation
- David (8/5): - Tiny, humble and cheerful. As value-priced stops-along-the-way go, this little Hansel and Gretel Hobbit motel gets a lot of things right. It’s family owned and operated, and these folks care! Although the room was very small (suited to the solo traveller), it was fresh and clean and everything worked. The sheets were soft and comfy and the towels were brand new! Nice stay and the best price on my 20-day road trip.
- Iris (8/5): - Nice place to stay, clean, quiet. Recommend
- Nicole (10/5): - We stayed at this motel for only a short time as we got there around 1am and left around 8am. The staff was excellent. I called ahead to let them know we would be really late coming but still were coming. Once there, there was no one in the office and door locked but the sign on window said to call. The gentleman answered right away and came to let us in his office and get set us set up in our room. The parking was a nice quiet lot and the motel rooms surrounded the lot, making it very secure. There were security cameras on premises. The room was clean and tidy, beds made and extra blankets supplied. The bathroom was clean and had a good supply of towels and soaps/etc. The motel was quick and we had a good quick sleep. Upon check out, I had called the gentlemen to check out and get our receipt. Once again, he was very friendly, polite and got us checked out quickly. The price for the night was very reasonable. As I was leaving the office, he stopped me saying he had a small gift for us (a tim hortons gift card) for being great customers and he appreciated our business, which was so very kind of him, considering I woke him during his sleep to check in and out. Will definitely stay here again. Highly recommend Hi-Way Motel in Portage la Prairie!!
- Melanie (10/5): - Staff was very kind
- Cory (8/5): - It was a good place to stay
- Melanie (10/5): - Amazing customer service! I’ll definitely stay here again!
- Melinda (8/5): - Good place to stay for the price! Pillows were a little on the thin side maybe.
- Dale (4/5): - Person on duty was not aware (?) this was prepaid and right away tried to collect the payment (double charge). He had a "suspicious", unfriendly attitude. He said we could find the info on the wifi in our room but there was no info in the room. The room was supposed to have a queen bed and did not.
- Rahmael (10/5): - The staff where really friendly and accommodating:
- Brian (8/5): - Good place to stay. Clean and comfortable.
- BERNARD (8/5): - Ddieu
- sergei (2/5): - Mattress are very old. Towels in shower are very old coming a part by using.
Few Arabic families came there araud 8 pm. And they was very loud till about 3 am. I did call stuf and complained but they didn't do anything.
Definitely not staying there again.
- Farid (2/5): Not clean - The room was full of flies and as I started the heat they started bothering me
- Tracey (10/5): - Very friendly and helpful owners. Rooms are very comfortable. My fav place to stay in Portage when travelling through.
- Dale (4/5): More cleaning effort required - Cleanliness is very important to me. Unfortunately my motel room was not very clean. The bathroom needed to be cleaned better. Shower curtain was grimy. A window blind should not be used in the shower because it is so hard to clean. The blind was filthy. Window sills were very grimy. I could hear the people talking in the unit beside mine. Not very sound proof
The staff were very polite & courteous. I needed a roll of toilet paper. I shouldn’t have had to ask. There should be extra paper rolls, but the girl was very courteous.
- Christine (10/5): - Exceeded expectations for a low budget motel stay! Beds were very comfortable, which is what matters most. Rooms are dated, but for the price it was a good experience.
- Mona (8/5): - Room was very clean and staff were very pleasant and courteous.
- Shannon (4/5): - Not very clean.
- Nicole (8/5): - Good staff, convenient. Have stayed in worse motels for more money. Very clean.
- Oriana (10/5): - Small property but well maintained. Staff very pleasant. Reasonable rates. Would stay here again.
- Gregory (4/5): Ungood - Shower handle was broken. Water was either screaming hot or ice cold. Spent too much time killing flies. Air conditioner noisy. People were nice enough, thats about it.
- Andrew (10/5): - Thi older establishment is a quaint little place that offers a quiet and clean place to catch quiet nights rest while travelling. Parking area is quite small.
- Kevin (6/5): - Small but clean and reasonable for the price
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great service and good value for money
- Cynthia (10/5): - This motel was a great place at a reasonable price to get some rest for the night.
- Peter (8/5): - Charming and very helpful host and good shopping facilities nearby
- Brenda (8/5): - Front desk was very helpful and gave me choice of rooms.
- John N (8/5): - Small room but it was all you need
- Martin (8/5): - Good bang for your buck but don’t expect a 5 star!
- Tammy (6/5): Interesting - Hotel wasn’t bad. The issue was the noisy neighbours in the middle of the night.
And unsure of why furniture kept disappearing from the room. Every time we came back a piece of furniture would be gone.
- Jennifer (2/5): - Our room was 'clean' but it had used tissue on the floor, the sink took forever to drain...which i could have dealt qith had I been able to get any sleep. It was so noisy, until well after 1am.
Wouldnt stay here again.
- Laura (8/5): - An affordable motel for the night while passing through
- Elaine (2/5): You have to be desperate to stay there - Portage la Prairie had a dog show this weekend, so all the decent hotels were taken. I had to go to a wedding Friday night. Been in hotels all over Canada since 2005. This was the worst one I've ever stayed at. Sidewalk out side had a bunch of cigarette ashtrays that were dirty. Small, paved lot muddy. Girl came to make tv work, but couldn't because no power to outlets, so lamps didn't work either. Boxsprings covered in plastic making me think they had bed bugs. Room was dirty with dead bugs on floor, ashes in window well, dirty blinds, and the smoke alarm had been illegally removed. Got back at 11pm and drug dealing happening in the lot. Went to get clothes out of car at 6am and 3 homeless people were trying to live in the corner.
- Debby (10/5): - Staff was really nice. Parking was a little tight. Overall had a good stay.
- John (10/5): - Very basic motel but all I was looking for at a good price.
- Brian (10/5): - Easy and efficient check-in. Room with 2 double beds was spacious. Slow internet speed.
- Simranjit (6/5): - Bedsheet was smelling bad, looks used already before and was not changed .
- Gerald (8/5): - The place was small , rooms were small but clean .
- Joan (10/5): - Reasonably priced. Nothing fancy but comfortable.
- Mona (8/5): - Very quiet and nice staff
- Gerry (10/5): - Tiny little room. Clean and quiet. Perfect for travellers
- Jinu (10/5): - Clean and quiet.
