• Lillian (8/5): Mixed bag, I like the place, treatment could have been better. - The rooms are spacious and well decorated. The hotel offers a ride to the nearby restaurants. The food was amazing. Kudos to the chef and team! The check in was unpleasant. I waited a good 15mins before someone came to assist us. Check in was cold and unwelcoming. Needless to say in the morning, our room didn’t have any hot water - the receptionist then gave us access to a nearby room with a condescending tone only use the bathroom. The shower didn’t drain quick enough! The passage to go park one’s vehicle is quite narrow. When we left, we were given a bottle of Olive Oil as a token for the supposed issues.
• Zak & Naz (7/5): - It was clean good location.and room was spacious and lovely We didn't get to eat the breakfast even though it was included in our price. We order room service the night before and had to send it back. . It was terrible. We were refunded and we were skeptical of having a cooked breakfast. The manager on duty said that we should speak to the shift manager in the morning and arrangements will be made. Unfortunately ,we got a whole lot promises and nothing wa s done.
• Mary Anne (10/5): Best decision we made in Johannesburg. - Everything about this hotel was perfect for our short stay in Johannesburg. The hotel itself is beautifully adapted from a historic building with large rooms, high ceilings and comfortable furnishings. The rooms were quiet and the art and wallpaper create a homey and creative space. The best thing about the hotel is the amazing staff - every one is professional and ready to be of service. Nare made an extra effort to help us with last minute bookings for three rooms and to get us oriented to the Rosebank neighborhood. The restaurant is excellent. Everything exceeded our expectations.

• Brendan (9/5): A really enjoyable experience and very attentive and polite staff. Would definitely stay here again. - Beautiful historical building well suited to a boutique hotel experience. Location was very central to where we needed to go and transport links to the airport are excellent when using the Guatrain. I would recommend the Gautrain - it is safe, clean and fast all at a very reasonable price. Not much to dislike. Perhaps the surrounding area abutting the property are in need of a good power wash. It didn’t bother us but the hotel does not serve alcohol.

• An (9/5): Excellent - Excellent location, beautifully appointed rooms and hotel areas in a converted old post office. Shame the gorgeous bar is a dry one. Would defo be busier if you could buy a glass of wine or a G&T … can’t fault the hotel otherwise.

The room was luxurious, clean and ver - The location was great, right across the road from the Gautrain station at Rosebank. Service was excellent, our room perfect and breakfast was delicious. Although not a problem, we would have enjoyed dinner in the hotel if they had a liquor license as we would have liked to enjoy Ozzies special dishes.

We felt very comfortable, thank you team! Beautiful bar but can't have a drink - we knew this beforehand through reading the reviews but the hotel could be a bit more explicit about being halal only. breakfast times are frankly too early (until half 10am) and staff is annoyed when you come to breakfast at half 10, so it's actually even earlier. they made us wait for our breakfast half an hour that morning and got the order wrong (I asked for vegetarian and they brought bacon and sausage). Other than this mishap we liked our stay very much.
• Sofia (10/5): Historical building, home-feeling hotel in the center of Johannesburg. - Impressive historical building, exceptional decorated with antiques, wallpapers, art pieces and paintings, boutique home-style hotel, luxury, spacious, at a very good location, very nice breakfast a la carte, you can order whatever you like from a big variety, served in a cosy dining area. The family suite has one bedroom with two king size beds, suitable to accommodate even 4 persons of a family. There is also a nice living room area in the suite and an enormous bathroom with L'Occitane amenities. A welcomed plate with fruits was offered us upon our arrival. I loved everything about my stay. A minibar in the room would be a nice addition. Just a small personal preference: the -so nice- bathrobe felt a bit heavy and oversized for my comfort.

• Henti (10/5): Peacefull and well cared for stay in central Rosebank - The staff is amazing, well trained and go the extra mile to make your stay memorable. Nothing is too much to ask for and you are always welcomed and served with a smile. The food is excellent. The room exceeded our expectations. We were early for our breakfast as we had an early appointment, and this was absolutely no problem for the staff. Nothing that is worth mentioning as the entire experience / stay was perfect.

The room was immaculate, and the bathroom spoils were impressive. The location, right next to the Rosebank Mall and the best restaurants, is a huge plus. Breakfast was scrumptious. There was absolutely nothing not to like.

• Bharat Vohra (9/5): A repeat stay at The Monarch for me, and an equally pleasant one! - An exceptionally comfortable stay at this beautifully appointed hotel, which I was staying at for the second time. I appreciated the addition of the bar in the renovated lobby, and the opening up of the courtyard for breakfast - both positive changes at the property, since my last visit in 2018. Room and bathroom size are well above average, and the location in Rosebank is hard to beat! There were a couple of fitting related issues in the bathroom, which we brought to the attention of the Manager on duty.
• Nelisa (10/5): Cosy and perfect stay! - As always boutique hotels are the best invention when it comes to stays but Monarch Hotel joint went above and beyond in making this place feel like home. We were kindly welcomed by Bongane who made sure our stay was comfortable. When he realised the room we booked was missing the appropriate air freshener, he immediately placed us in a much better and bigger room. This type of hosting is what makes a stay feel welcoming and we are definitely looking forward to coming back to stay here when in Joburg again!
• Aneeqah (9/5): Would definitely book again! - Breakfast was amazing - it is not buffet though, so you have to order from a menu. All food was lovely, dinner as well, and loved that it was fully halal. I wish it could have been a little earlier - breakfast is only served from 07:30 but it worked out. Staff were extremely welcoming and catered to all our needs. The rooms were stunning, loved the decor and amenities. The water had a funny smell but I put that to the overall JHB water crisis, and they managed it well in the hotel.

The rooms were large, pretty and clean, the staff was very friendly, food was delicious, and the restaurant, lounge area and garden were very nice too. They didn’t serve alcohol in the Lounge, so that’s my only note and we also had trouble using the safe in the room. Overall great experience, I’m glad we chose this hotel.

Truly one of the best hotels in Johannesburg. The team made me feel completely at home from day one. Huge thanks to Suhayl, Bongani, Siya, Frank, Nthando, Blessing and the rest of the incredible staff , you guys made my stay so special.
