Guest Reviews
- Scarlett (10/5): - I live the location of it. It is very centric
- Faraneh (10/5): - The staff were amazing!!! I wasnt feeling very well and they let me check out a bit later without any hassles. I wouod definitely stay here again.
- A (10/5): - Stayed here to check out the university.
- Nuha (8/5): - The hotel was nice and the location was convenient, but the breakfast was disappointing. The options were limited and the quality wasn’t as good as expected. Everything else about the stay was fine, but the breakfast definitely needs improvement.
- Selvanayagam (8/5): - The students manning the reception were excellent and very knowledgeable and client friendly. Room was in much better shape than I expected based on the reviews I read before I booked . Overall good experience for a budget concious client. May the city council should do a better job finding shelter space for the homeless around the residence.
- Anna (8/5): - Simple, but adequate accommodations, with healthy breakfast, just 10 minutes walk to the main City attractions.
Twice cheaper than other higher end hotels in the area.
- Aparna (4/5): Worst stay ever - I would not recommend at all. Staff were not friendly at all and room was not cleaned (empty Starbucks cup on floor). Our Air conditioner leaked so I used one of the towels to mop up the water. This was around 5pm. They sent someone at midnight and despite asking 5 times wouldn’t give me another towel. Finally next day their solution to the leaky air conditioner was to put a recycling bin under it to catch the water. We has service dogs with us and we were harassed about them after each shift change. Keys did not work, and the area is full of unhoused. Stay only if you can’t afford anything else.
- Nicole (8/5): - The staff were friendly and helpful! Limited parking was the only downfall to our stay.
- Balvinder K (8/5): - The breafast wasn't good.
- Jessica (8/5): - An good budget stay close to parliment hill. Typical dorm beds and food but you cant beat the price.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Overall good for location. - Continental breakfast was great. Price good. Private Parking just beside the hotel.though parking is very expensive with weird timings. If you pay for parking in evening, finished at 12am. If you pay 12am finishes at 5am 10$ each. For 3 nights paid 81$
- Stuart (10/5): Clean, comfortable and convenient. - The hotel was conveniently located to attractions, shopping and public transit. The room was clean and comfortable. The only problem was that the TV set was not working. But because I was staying overnight and was out most of the time, it didn't make a difference.
And the continental breakfast was perfect.
- Ryan (10/5): - Great views and affordable prices. Just a few things, you need to request a hair dryer. Housekeeping is dependent on how long your stay is. Bed is springs based sags. Good AC and very roomy.
- Cindy (6/5): - No food choices
Always toasts and cereals
Beds were ok, not very comfy
Decoration was nice
- Rock (8/5): - The location is perfect. But it's at downtown area and there are homeless people around.
- Jss Yft (8/5): - It worths the price. Very close to market and parlament. I would just be aware that it doesn't have parking, but for 30 or 40 you have a public one just besides to the building, and, unfortunately, between hotel and market, you'll find the street very dirty and with many homeless.
- Jelle (8/5): - It is nice to have a free breakfast wherein the room rate is not pricey. It is just a walking distance to the attractions.
- nicole (10/5): - Very clean property, quick and easy check in/out, nice continental breakfast - close to everything!
- adam (8/5): - Very close to downtown market area
- Anita (10/5): - My husband and I had a very good time staying for three nights at Rideau Hotel. The customer service was very good and the staff were very friendly. We really loved the breakfast and the nice and clean eating area.
We really recommend it.
- Princess (8/5): - Continental breakfast included, nice beds, desks , fridge and microwave was great.
The property location was pretty close to everything. It has no parking which sucks and the parking lot next to it jas a terrible pricing system. My bf had to wake up at 12am and then 5am to top up the parking or risk getting towed.
The property was definitely not in the best state. The sink had some damage and the waterflow due to the faucet was basically gushing. You had to only pull up the faucet handle a little bit. The shower head was not a stream but more like water falling from rocks. Giving globs of water. It still worked though and the bathroom had a wet towels that haven't dried in a few days smell.
For what I paid, it was still pretty good.
- Michael (10/5): - Had an excellent stay Bed was comfortable. Staff were super friendly. I would stay there again.
- Kim Anh Thy (10/5): - good
- Sandy (10/5): - Alot of homeless people outside but you are located near downtown area. They do close the front doors at night but the staff well buzz you in. Close to mall and byward market. No extras like hair dryer.
- Dinesh (6/5): - Mattress needs to be upgraded, it's spring mattress and not comfortable.
- Mavrick (4/5): - A/c too cold and too loud. Weird room structure. Bed not too comfy.
- Testimony (10/5): - Comfort
- Avery (6/5): - Great for residence, as a hotel… it’s ok
- Sheila (10/5): - This is a student residence so is no frills. However, it is a clean building/room that fit the bill. There is a basic continental breakfast with coffee, tea, juice, bagels, toast, fruit, yogourt and cereal. This location is within walking distance to the mall, Parliament hill area and Byward market.
- Gary (2/5): - Staff is friendly, however we found mold on the ceiling. Every other apsects of the room was clean though.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Check-in was fine, but when we got to our room, the door was unlocked and it was dirty. They cleaned it and we got it 35 minutes later. Staff was ok but didn’t even offer an apology.
The TV didn’t work and the beds were uncomfortable. In the morning, we woke up to phones that were not charged. Turns out that most of the electrical outlets weren’t working.
We told staff of these issues at checkout they seemed indifferent about it.
Breakfast was good for a continental.
Overall, the experience was frustrating and uncomfortable. Generally, we’ve had good experiences at university residence accommodations. This was not one of the good experiences.
- Stephen (6/5): - Convenient location and value for money. The location was a little rougher than expected with homeless and individuals with mental health challenges.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Its not very convenience for the lack of hotel owned parking lot nearby
- Puja (2/5): - I was woken by the hotel staff more than 4 times during the night starting at 1246 in the night. I couldn’t sleep during the night. There was water leaking and they kept on coming to take pictures of the room and look at the leakage. I should be refunded my stay as it was very disturbing.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Ottawa escapade - As it is located at the heart of the city, at night seems not safe to roam around. For just a place to rest at the end of the day, the place is suitable enough.
- Daniel (8/5): - Unrivalled location.
Very sparse rooms, amazing for the price, staff do the minimum (not a bad thing).
- lillian (6/5): - The Continental Breakfast was a nice touch, but I wouldn’t recommend staying there. Spend a little more money and stay at a decent place.
- Lindsay A (8/5): - Everything was very basic as it is a dorm room. You can ask for a hair dryer. A lamp in the room would have been nice as the only light is when you come in. The room was quiet. Breakfast is very simple.
The location is the best part. Walkable to many tourist places. Transportation from here was not great. There are food options close.
Staff was friendly.
For the price I would stay again.
- Sohail (6/5): - The rooms were okay, if planning a budget trip it was a great place to stay. But bathrooms smelled a lot without using. And breakfast was all frozen stuff de frosted.
- Alice (6/5): - Nice stay overall. Staffs are nice and willing to help, but the amenities in the room are poor, such as noisy air condition, a poorly functioning faucet.
- Robert (10/5): - Comfortable downtown location
- Mohammed Sarfraaz (8/5): - No parking issue
- Wing Yin Janet (6/5): - .
- Denny (10/5): - I enjoy the short walk to Rideau Center, Byward market and Metro supermarket across the street. The room is a bit basic but it has everything I need and wanted, plus fantastic value. Will continue to book here.
- Lloyd (8/5): - Good basic services. With mobility issues, there were no restaurants within three blocks. Many fast food sites.
- raphael (10/5): - Great location and close to everything
- erin (6/5): - Would be nice to offer hairdryers, butter packets for bakery items, and I guess I was confused enough with my booking that I thought I was getting two separate rooms
- Julie (8/5): - Good. Better than expected. Close to parliament building and major tourist attractions
- Garima (6/5): - Had trouble staying
- ganga (4/5): - Overall was ok but the bed was terrible. They have spring matress . Me and my husband both of us having back pain that day.
- Judie Astraud (6/5): - We had an okay stay. We had to switch rooms twice because the toilet was broken then the AC was too loud & noisy. Food was not great. Very basic. The sliced fruits did not taste good at all.
- Patrick June (10/5): - They allow us to check in early.
- Amy (4/5): Beds were incredibly uncomfortable. - The hotel is a little old, but clean. The front desk staff were kind, but I couldn't really understand properly due to his accent. The room was clean, but the beds were incredibly uncomfortable with very thin mattresses and spring bed frame. Barely slept a wink. The bathroom sink would make the pipes make this loud trumpet noise which scared me at first. They do offer room cleaning, but there's no room service. The continental breakfast was incredibly sad. We left with a yogurt and walked to Tim Hortons instead. Check-in and check-out was quick and easy.
- Haneen (6/5): - The bathroom is not clean. Also, we stayed for two nights. On sunday, the breakfast was bad. They put bread with cheese and they said that the driver didn't come today. On monday, the breakfast was good. Overall, if you are looking for an affordable place, it is a good place to stay in . A lot of restaurants around and you can walk to everything. You can use local buses.
- Fariba (6/5): - The property does not have any parking and we received a ticket for parking in the nearby parking.
- Rodolfo (4/5): - Terrible bed. Dirty.
- alencar (2/5): - Chambre avec presque aucune structure, même pas une table de chevet à côté du lit, une seule lumière murale, matelas inconfortável, lit mauvais. J’ai déjà séjourné dans des motels en bord de route qui étaient plus confortables.
- Neil (10/5): - close to all the stores and transport you need
- RAJ KUMAR (8/5): - It's location....
- Reuben (8/5): - While this is conveniently located in the heart of town, you're surrounded by homeless zombies and drug addicts. So be careful while walking.
- Mansoor (10/5): - Good
- Helen (10/5): - The place, which was a Holiday Inn converted to student housing but used as a hotel in summer, is convenient to many major sites. The room and property in general were plain but clean. The TV and fridge worked fine. The breakfast was ample and I am really appreciative of the fresh fruit.
The only issue we had was the keycard not always working, and the fact that the downtown in general had a large homeless and/or drug addicted population: The hotel was secure.
- Reuben (6/5): - Nice. The rooms are very basic but nevertheless comfortable.
- Oleksandr (6/5): - We stayed at this hotel for 5 days, and they only cleaned our room for the first time on the fourth day. That’s unacceptable for any hotel. There was no communication, no explanation — just bad service. I would not stay here again.
- Corrah (10/5): - Nice place to stay area around the property was a little bit sketchy but what you would expect for a city
- Verified traveler (6/5): Very difficult to have a peaceful sleep. - The air conditioner was too close to the one bed and cold air came out and had to be shut off for comfort. There was loud noise in the hallway late in the evening and in the early morning (around four). The tap in the bathroom let out a small trickle of hot water only and made a very loud sound.
- Craig (10/5): - It was close to everything and will be coming here more often
- Raoul (10/5): - Excellent bon accueil
- David (6/5): - Parking and noise. Otherwise very good
- Romina (4/5): - The building located at a decent place close to tourist attractions however the rooms are extremely low quality, the bathroom is horrible and the breakfast was awful. It looked like a middle quality hostel. No parking on site and the next door parking is $10 per 5 hours.
Lots of homeless people on the street and not safe to walk late at night.
- stanley keith (10/5): - Beautiful view, helpful staff and great location. Can't wait to return
- Clint (4/5): - Noisy street, lots of homless outside the liqour store, hot, noisy air conditioner, alarms beeping constantly, breakfast was terrible, no plug ins near the bed
- Osasenaga (4/5): - First day we checked in, there was garbage in the room. Sink in the bathroom wasn’t working and the shower had little pressure
- Jennifer (10/5): - No-frills, two-beds room and a continental breakfast were great for a quick overnight stay. Can't beat the price!
Student workers were polite and definitely had a lot of patience, especially when other guests used them as tour guides/concierges!
- Dr. Subodh (4/5): - Mattress was very poor, we can feel bed frame
- Andrew (8/5): - Great stay
- Auran (10/5): - NA
- HANG (10/5): - Very convenient and close to the downtown area
- Al Hisham (2/5): - Pe prepared to be microwaved
- Patricia (10/5): - Met all expectations
- Rohit (8/5): - Really good overall. The room ambiance could be more appealing for guests considering the rates
- Richard (8/5): - Great stay!
- Thu (8/5): - The most unique thing is that you can actually know beforehand how the your residence look like before registering for residence at uOttawa
- Laura (8/5): - Clean budget accommodation, close to Rideau Centre and canal. Great staff. Large rooms.
- Ehsan (2/5): - The breakfast was just muffins and some defrosted frozen fruit with yoghurt.
The check in had a problem and took them 10minutes to figure it out.
I got creeped out when someone knocked on my door two times after 10pm, I didnt open the door to see what it wss about
But it was creepy and bizzare.
- Grishma (8/5): - It was great stay / Enough paid parking /downtown / shoopping / market / night life .
- Charles (8/5): - Nope
- Patrycja (6/5): - Property was fine for the price. The staff very helpful. Good continental breakfast. Rideau Street not entirely the safest these days but I never actually felt unsafe. Heartbreaking to see so many unhoused and substance addicted individuals on the streets.
- Elna Abraham (10/5): - Clean
- Joyce (6/5): - We have a good stay. The AC is a bit noisy, breakfast is just bread n cereal, other than that, it s a good choice.
- Mashaha (8/5): - .
- jessica (8/5): - Great location
- KA HING (8/5): - Value for money
- Maged (8/5): - Great staff, they help alot, very clean, not high end place, but for the price and the location,it is perfect, thanks alot
- Andres (10/5): - The room was really clean, the beds were really comfortable and the room was spacey. Very well kept.
- LIUDI (4/5): - Facility too old
- Luay (2/5): - Charging like 3 stars hotel but it is only a student dormitory
- Malcolm (8/5): - Plumbing is very old
- Sol Sol (6/5): - For this price and location, it is not bad at all. The hotel is dated but clean. Parking is confusing.
- loreto (6/5): - Convenient, but breakfast not so good, not much selection
