Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (2/5): Do not stay! - Place was very small, area was rough, smelly and dirty. The room was no bigger than a small bathroom with sunken mattresses, yellow pillows and exposed piping inside the room for the air con. We had to leave to find another more suitable place that was as described and this place refused our refund when we requested it.
- Katherine (2/5): Complete scam - We got called multiple times throughout the day to submit ID, security deposit and pre-payment via a portal. We got to the apartment and the keypad for the unit had been removed and replaced with a manual lock by the landlord (the property manager claimed this happened sometime between when they called that afternoon for payment and when we arrived), so we weren’t able to access the apartment at all. There were occupancy notices plastered all over the building. This place is a complete scam, they were clearly subleasing illegally and got caught. If you have a reservation, make one elsewhere.
- Dave (10/5): - What a great place for a vacation in the heart of Kensington market! Just a really comfortable apartment that's in a super convenient area. Close to transportation, food and shopping.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I stayed here with my husband and 3 children. The reviews of location made me concerned- it is located up a narrow alley that is covered with graffiti and bins. It took some time to accurately find, the management were very responsive in helping. Turns out the location was fantastic- walking distance of vintage shops. Fruit market, multiple restaurants in Chinatown. We felt completely safe. The locks were secure and brand new (see other reviews) .
The hearing was not working, we were dependent on a space heater that the management dropped over.
Would highly recommend based on the location!!!!! Just around the corner, Jimmys coffee has the best coffee and croissants that I have had in a long time!
Attached are photos of the area
- Jon (2/5): Left stranded. - This place gave me no advance warning that they intended to cancel my booking until I was on site at 8:30 PM the day of. I was stranded out side in the freezing cold and had to find a last minute booking that resulted in paying exorbitant rates somewhere else. Hotels.com was a nightmare to work with but did decide to comp the stay, however I have only been refunded about 2/3 of the total cost.
- ruqayah (8/5): - The reviews were very scary, so we were skeptical about this place. When we first arrived, they gave us a room that only had a mini fridge and a microwave; however, the ad shows a kitchen and we brought stuff to bake. we called them and complained as we payed for a unit with a full kitchen and they moved us to another unit. The other unit was dirty and not cleaned yet and so we called and told them that and they moved us to another unit which was very clean and exactly like the pictures. The entrance to the place has a bunch of graffiti, which we didn't mind; we actually took pictures in front of it. It is in Kensington marketplace so yes its not the most safe spot but we didn't experience anything, especially since we didn't walk around; we just took an Uber right from the apartment and returned in an Uber. If you are with a group of friends, you should be fine. The lock on the main door seems broken, but I don't understand why that matters since the apartment doors all have proper locks. If you are staying here with 5 people, you will get the unit with a mini fridge and a microwave and a living room that is a separate unit in front of yours. If only 4 people, I would recommend this place; just ensure you call them if you're unsatisfied; their customer service is pretty good. Also, there was hot water for us. and dont use the water heater thing; ours had mold inside.
- Juli (4/5): - The room we were given was filthy and had not been cleaned from previous Tennants. No sheets towels soap or toilet paper. Dirty sinks beds counters and floors. They ended up giving us another room that was clean but one that didn’t meet the bed requirements for our party.
- Brandon (4/5): - we had issues with the heat, hot water, and noise. location was great.
- Susanna B. (2/5): - This is a SCAM! Do not book HUGE scam! It’s in a back alley that not even the uber knew where to leave us. It smelled horrible we left immediately bc we felt unsafe. The door would not lock properly. There is NO kitchen! Complete lie! We are currently submitted a claim to my credit card company. Please Expedia take this down!
- Tina (2/5): - I wanted to like this place. It is in Kensington Market, downtown walking distance to locally owned restaurants and businesses. The TTC is a few blocks away, making the rest of the city easily accessible if you don't want to drive.
That is where the positives stop. The customer service is extremely poor. There is no one on site so if you have an issue, such as we did, you will never see anyone resolve it; just message after message that they will look into it.
The electricity was shut off on our second day. The property owners knew as we found the notice on the door. They did not tell us in advance. Had we parked our car in their garage, we would not have gotten it out as the ELECTRIC door wouldn't open.
The apartment is absolutely freezing & never gets warm despite requests to turn up the heat. There was no thermostat in our unit, we were told repeatedly it was in the one above. So the guests above us got to decide the temp in our unit.
The floors are all tile, so they are freezing, ALL THE TIME. The bathroom is a wet room which is not a problem however after a shower the entire room is soaked in condensation due to the freezing cold air mixing with the hot shower water, floor is covered in COLD water due to the lack of heat and no lip on the shower surround to keep the water somewhat contained.
I highly recommend that you do not stay in this apartment in any cool or cold weather. We left the accommodations early as we could not bear the cold in the apartment any longer.
- Ava (2/5): - DO NOT RENT THIS. It looks nothing like the pictures. The building is run down. The key pad to access the building is just a decoration, anyone can just push the door in and access it. Lots of homeless people around. When I walked in the lights of the building didn’t work, and there was graffiti on the walls. It looked like a trap house. This looks like a place people cook meth in or get kidnapped. I didn’t get any of my money back and I paid a lot for this. It was such a scam. I would hate if this happened to someone else.
- Lauren (2/5): - Do NOT stay here. I cannot stress this enough!
You have to walk through a dark alley to even access this place. There are homeless people and drug addicts sleeping around the building. It is covered in graffiti, inside and out, and there are needles and garbage outside.
I have never stayed anywhere like this before. We got in super late and had to go up a narrow staircase and it was pitch black in there. The were doors that didn’t lock properly and my daughter said the outside looked like the scene of a horror movie. It is NOT safe.
It was too late to do anything that night and the next morning we woke up to NO power at all in the room. The management (who you have to call, there is no one actually on the premises) said it would be on by that afternoon.
At that point we said we were leaving and they refused to give any money back. We left anyways, and Expedia finally sorted it out for us.
This whole place is a scam. You could not pay me to go back there. Stay far far away!
- Chloe (10/5): - The location is in a super walkable area. The food choices around it are great and also made it very easy to get to different places throughout the city.
- April (6/5): - Property was a great size. Cozy beds. However you could not adjust the temp and it was set at 15°C mid November. There was a space heater but it didn’t heat enough for the size of the unit. We all slept with sweaters on
- Jesus (8/5): - Area around the hotel was really dirty
- Suzy (8/5): - It was a whole apt and it suited my needs for 3 travellers
- Marie Terese (2/5): - I got to the place and it was not the same as the listing. I could not stay in the place and contacted them to cancel my booking. Outside the property is where homeless people sleep. I can go on and on. The point is do not book this place ever. We have been contacting them to refund us. The no. They have is a call center and they will just give you a run around. They refused to give us a refund even if we did not stay there. DO NOT BOOK HERE!
- Scott (2/5): - Front passcode secured gate was broken (appeared to have been for awhile), the room front door locked into a worn out hole in the frame (no bracket and clearly signs of abuse), WiFi only worked in one room which b/c my data was sketch in CA meant I had no internet in the living room. I reported these things and after a week nothing was done. Did have someone show up to my door because of poor communication on their end but he didn’t even recognize I existed…immediately called front office without even talking to me. Providing something relatively secure and recognizing I exist are kind of baseline for me. Glad I’m out.
- Tammy (8/5): - Wish there was more than 1 facecloth and 1 hand towel for 2 people. Windows in 1 bedroom didn't fully close, but close enough. Wish the bathroom was a bit bigger. But overall great value choice in a fun neighborhood. Would stay again.
- Deanna (8/5): - Very tight spot...hard to get to...isolated location in alley. Otherwise it was good..
clean and spacious...the TV couldn't be plugged in as the cord would not reach any outlets so was unusable...perhaps an extension cord added to the unit would be helpful 👍 😀
- Katrina (4/5): - No hot water. We were unable to shower for the duration of the stay. When I finally got in touch with someone they said they would take care of it. They did not, nor did they contact me with an update.
- Michael (2/5): - Book at your peril - arrived late at night to find both TV's not working, all the electrical outlets in both bedrooms not working, meaning no lamps working and no where to plug my phone/alarm in overnight. In the morning woke up to find that the hot water was not working at all. Reported defects at time of finding them out. Have called 4 times after leaving to speak to someone about this and each time no one is available and someone will call back - they do not. This was intended to be a budget one night stay but entirely not worth the $300 ++ I paid and the $300 security deposit which I am hoping I get back.
- Nadine (4/5): Not as advertised - This property is not what is advertised on Hotels.com. The address given on the website is not the address of the property, thankfully there were local people who had dealt with other people looking for this property who were very helpful. Getting in touch with the property manager was challenging and getting the required information to check in was difficult. I spent half an hour on the phone trying to get the documents to register and complete the deposit required to get the codes to get into the suite. The main door to the building had a lock and keypad, however someone had jammed a screw into the lock, photo attached below, so it didn’t lock which didn’t give me any feelings of security. The suite is split into 2 parts, the “living room” on one side with a lock and keypad has no window even though there is a couch with a place to sleep, however there wasn’t any bedding to put on it. I called the property manager about the bedding but didn’t get any response. The bedrooms and bathroom were across the hall behind a second door with a lock and keypad. The 2 bedrooms were small, but the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was very small and there was no anti slip coating or mat for the shower in the bathtub which made showering somewhat dangerous. The bathroom sink was cracked in a few places. The kitchen was a folding plastic table and folding chairs with a microwave and coffee maker and some disposable plates and cutlery and a small refrigerator.
- Caitlin (8/5): - This was a comfortable spot in a great location, my only issue was regarding the communication with the rental company. The burden is on you to request check-in information, and I had to call and message them several times before they responded with the information. They also waited until the last minute, to the point where I wasn't sure if I would even have a place to stay. I wish the communication had been better and clearer.
- Nicola (2/5): - The entrance is not safe. It is in a back alley which is unkept, dirty, graffitied and used as a sleeping place for the homeless. The lock was not working on the door so it was left open all the time for anyone to enter. I did not stay there after seeing this and was refused a refund after numerous attempts to call with no answer.
- Samuel (2/5): - After I sent the deposit the host did not respond to me, and I was unable to get my room key. I had to stay at a different hotel for the night and they will not give me a refund. Stay away if you don’t want to get scammed.
- Jane (6/5): - I cannot say I would stay at Kensington Apartments again. The apartment itself was clean, running water, good pressure, provided a fridge with freezer, and a smart TV. No air conditioning, however, and we were hot as hell. We had to keep the windows open at night, only one of which actually opened properly.
We booked for 5 people, and while there were 2 queen beds and a pull-out couch, the couch had no sheets or covers available. It was also kind of gross.
The apartment was divided in two units, both of which are accessible through a code. Despite that, I did not really feel safe there. The doors were wonky, and the main door downstairs (also accessible through a code) was broken and always unlocked.
There is free parking, but I have no idea how it works, and people were double parked in front of one another. I had purchased a street permit from the city and was very glad I had.
What else? Staff is helpful, but there was no one on site. Everything is done via WhatsApp or phone. The cleaning staff I ran into once was really sweet and gave us extra sheets.
Also, there’s a safety deposit required, not done via Expedia. Which I think isn’t supposed to be a thing?
All in all, it wasn’t terrible. But it wasn’t great either.
- Aline (2/5): - read the reviews before renting this place, the pictures are not the same as what they offer, the picture is supposed to have a kitchen and a big table but it is not like that, we rented the place for 5 people and it was supposed to have 3 beds and a sofa bed but there were only 2 beds, this place is extremely weird, it is in a hostile area, outside it is full of graffiti and pigeon poop, the first entrance that you are supposed to put a code in does not work, it is open all the time so anyone can enter and it also gives you access to the garage so anyone can enter there too, the room where we stayed is divided into 2 rooms, one where the living room is and the other where there are 2 rooms, which is quite strange because you would expect everything to be together, it is worth mentioning that there is no reception or anyone in charge of the place so if you need help no one is going to solve anything for you, when I called to ask why the photos that appeared on the site were different the person who helped me only gave me excuses, I asked why the kitchen that was in the photos was not there and why that the air conditioning did not work to which he said that we had a small table with a microwave and that the AC worked perfectly which is not true, I also have my doubts about the refund of the deposit and how reliable it is, since looking at the other reviews I realize that many people did not get their deposit back and I also have my doubts about them stealing your identity
- Kyle (2/5): - Never sent me the email for the door to get in was never allowed to stay out stay
- HARIDIATOU (10/5): - I like how the unit was set, most likely the living room
- christina (2/5): - Its very scary, no elivator, price is high, too much noice from upstairs, kitchen dink is not working.
Disaster
- Bruce (2/5): - We arrived at our accommodations booked through Expedia. Our accommodations are at 38 Kensington Place in Toronto. I cannot fully and accurately express the level of disappointment and disgust when we arrived. The accommodations are not in the least bit accurately reflected on the Expedia website.
The “locked” front gate has a screw through the lock so the whole premises is unsecured.
There were pubic hairs in the beds.
There were weird stains in the bedding.
The bedside tables were FULL of garbage (including women’s sanitary products).
The “kitchen” was a folding table, mini fridge, and microwave.
The couch is broken (the whole side is completely broken off).
The air vents are smashed.
Everything is really dirty.
The “balcony” is absolutely COVERED in bird poo and is otherwise unusable.
I have photos that I will endeavor to share in hopes that you can look at them before you EVER consider staying here!!
Upon arrival, I opened a chat with an Expedia representative. They contacted the owner of the accommodations and asked them to reach out to us.
They did reach out and switched us to another unit. The ONLY reason that helped is because the accommodations were all attached in one unit. The first unit had one of my kids sleeping in another locked door unit without us?!?
DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!
- Verified traveler (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE! NOT SAFE OR CLEAN!! - We had a HORRIBLE experience here. Our first unit had NO AC and wasn’t the cleanest. The shower curtain was so brown and dirty. We were transferred to another unit after we came back from our night event. When we got back around 4am, the door to the new unit was difficult as if it was being blocked closed and THERE WAS A MAN IN THE BED. He had taken a shower and gotten really comfortable. The 24/7 “helpline” wasn’t any help with getting fresh sheets, towels or about our security concerns. We were told nothing could be done until the morning. Come morning, there was NO HOT WATER. We didn’t get any response from the customer service line ALL DAY even when I’ve reached out to them multiple times. After a disrespectful encounter with a man who claimed to be the supervisor at the property (turns out he wasn’t the supervisor, just posing as one) and the “maintenance man” (who turned out to be the man in the bed), we packed up our bags and left. Comments were made about my nationality. And I believe he kicked my car while in the garage! WE DID NOT FEEL SAFE OR COMFORTABLE. It’s been about 2 weeks since we checked out early and I’m STILL getting the run around from the hotel about my compensation. DO NOT STAY HERE!
- Gracin (6/5): - You get what you pay for, it was pretty clean and everything worked properly. A little confusing to find. However we had a good time, we wanted to explore the city and this was a cheap place to stay. Would stay here again
- Verified traveler (2/5): Avoid if possible - Hotel listed is a scam and does not look like photos posted online. While inside of the apartments is moderately clean, area is unsecured with both front doors being unlocked/ lacking the ability to be locked. Alongside that, the bathroom is more a closet with no barrier for the water alongside being next to the toilet.
- Adriana (8/5): - En la foto indicaba que había cocina pero no tiene.
- Geraldine (4/5): - Towels and bed sheets has stain when i talk to the staff they told me to move on the other room but the room that they are offering has no air-condition
- Oleksandr (6/5): - The hot water didn't work.
- Subhranshu (2/5): - The apartment is in terrible shape and management is horrible. When I stepped into the apartment I noticed the window was broken and was on the floor and glass shattered all where. Management provided me another room. In that room none of the wall electric were working, TV was not working, Lamps were not work. Sent pictures and Complained to the management but no one listened, nor repaired nor changed the room. So my vacation in Toronto was completely ruined because of that stay. My hotel stay cost should be refunded back to me.
- Todd (10/5): - Good place for the price
- abbey (2/5): - A group of me and my friends 20(F)- 24(F) booked this property for my birthday. The pictures made the property look clean, safe and well maintained. we arrived later into the evening and to our dismay the property looks even worse in the dark. the property itself is in an unlit alleyway, even with our phone flashlights we were unable to light up the property well. the keypad to the complex was broken and anyone could walk into the complex. our door was kicked in. some aspects of the unit itself were okay but not quite as pictured. our main issue was safety, it felt like anyone could get into our unit to take our stuff or worse. upon contacting expedia as we decided we were not safe to stay at this property we were told that we would not receive a refund and they would follow the same day cancellation policy. spend a little more money to find somewhere safer if you can.
- Vladimir (2/5): Avoid at all costs - Absolutely horrible place and experience me and my family didn’t even end up staying there and we’re on Hotels.com help line for hours getting our money back because the security and cleanliness and overall health and safety was not even up to the bare minimum of what a hotel stay or apartment they should be. Basically anybody from the dodgy outside area could come up right to your room door, which was very weak and shoddy. There was no hot water and the bedsheets had yellow stains on them. The fold out couch for the fifth person had no folding out and no bedsheets or pillows for it and was itself filthy.
- Taya (6/5): - The beds are very comfy and the people gave good directions and info to get to the suite but the front door to the apartment isn’t locked nor is the door on the upper level and when we arrived to the suite it looked like someone tried to kick the door in - big hole in the door and the door handle was loose - until these things are fixed I would not recommend as the unit and building does not feel safe and secure.
- Leo (2/5): - My laptop computer was stolen from my room during my stay. The wireless internet would not work, and there was no one available to contact about either of these issues.
- Ashley (6/5): Cute, spacious but no temp control in unit - Was surprised to find full kitchen and dining room with 2 bedrooms in apartment style.
Cons - Shower had no stall and drain in floor so whole bsthroom flooded when using; heat/ac control was apparently in another unit so had to keep messaging property manager asking to have it adjusted
Pros - clean, full kitchen with fridge/stove/dishes/cookware; good price; excellent location; parking garage (call to confirm availability of spaces since less spaces than units); lots of cool vintage shops nearby
A little difficult to find, kind of a back alley side street. Nicely removed from busy Kensington Market. Like a 30 second walk from quiet alley entrance to busy market street. I liked to sit out in step and have coffee in am.
- Gabe (6/5): - Good location - pretty grimy, dirty lane access, lots of colourful characters but didn’t feel unsafe.
Booked apartment for 5. Weird configuration with entry up a set of stairs shared with another apartment and our apartment split off two rooms at the top. To secure these you have to lock both doors. Main queen beds nice and comfortable, fold out couch in lounge area was broken, and hot water not working but staff shifted us another functional apartment within the hr. AC in windowless living room sounded like a jet engine so hard to hear TV - sofa bed very hard and uncomfortable with no bedding. Despite what is shown on listing no kitchen facilities except for a bar fridge, microwave, toaster and jug and table with collection of tea and coffee supplies. Generally pretty worn but clean. Good location with lots of bars and restaurants around. Would not recommend for any more than 4 people unless some is really into self punishment on uncomfortable sofas.
- Kimberly (6/5): Kensington Market Location, Toronto - The location was perfect; easy to access buses, light rail transport, and Uber. The Neighbourhood I would describe is hippieish. Lots of graffiti on the outside of the buildings. The price was definitely reasonable. The inside was fine. The pictures are a good representation of what it looks like; although there is no living room. The beds were comfortable. The washroom very small, and the shower was on the small side as well. The kitchen stove was dirty, along with the stove top (greasy and the elements very dirty). The basic needs of utensils and cups were not met. Only had one spoon and one glass cup. Owners to need to replenish these items. Noise level is something else. You could hear the garage door open and close every time someone used it. The neighbours standing outside the bedroom window at 1:00 am you could hear them talking. The neighbours above us, you could hear them walking around. The people leaving in the morning; you could hear their suitcases rattling down the stair ways. So it is definitely a noisy place. Customer Service, meaning the check-in information, door codes etc were given by Whatsapp - which was fine.
- Katie (10/5): - Me and 3 friends stayed at this property and were pleasantly surprised. When you drive into Kensington market it is definitely a very urban vibe, with graffiti walls. Going up into the apartment it was a little bit sketchy and there was also garbage sprawled all over the walk way. But other than that, the inside was just like the pictures and the AC worked and so did the Wi-Fi. I would absolutely stay here again!
- Luke (8/5): - The entrance is through a sketchy alleyway and you have to walk by people camping at the entrance. The cleaning lady was there at 5 when we went in and asked us to come back in an hour, she was still there at 6pm but we just sat in the other room. The suite is actually very nice and clean, bathroom had a bit of hair but no big deal. I had a terrible time trying to contact support, the phone hung up anytime it said it would connect me to an operator. I was very nervous but it was a big relief actually getting into the suite and seeing it’s not bad like other reviews explained. Overall bad support but not a terrible place, just a sketchy area.
- Zackary (10/5): - Very nice inside
- DAnielle (6/5): - The worst service i ever had and i do travel a lot.
1.Smell of cigarette intense in the livingroom
2. No kitchen like it s advertise
3. Sofa broken can t sleep or even sit on it
4. Rented for 5 people never received the bedding for the 5 th one asked many times
5. Durty entrance and full of water in the hall way never cleaned
6. Never had no room service in 5 days rental
6. Asked twice for some fresh towels we had 3 for a family of five for a 5 day stay never received it
7. Coffee mate and sugar were jus there in a room in big open bags ( not individual or sealed) like you would get in an airbnb that every body can pick in
8. A security depost was asked after booking and taken on my credit card not just stand by. Amd can t be reemburse before couple of days
9. Last but worst!!!!’ It was a crazy heat wave (43 degree outside) the air conditonning was broken. I called exactly 12 times. And it took them 3 days to finally being us a fan. It was 38 degree in the rooms ( i habe picture to show) we have young kids with us it was in sane. They ended up not fixing the air conditonnaing left only one fan for 3 rooms. There was not even a winfow in one of the room. The yougest ended uo sick from a heat stroke probably.
- Donna (10/5): - These apartments are as pictured, clean and comfortable. We were skeptical after reading some of the reviews, but so glad we stayed here. The staff was attentive and was cordial and the parking was in a clean secure garage. The location for us was perfect.Though the area has a bit of grit, it has a bohemian vibe and it was so fun to walk around and see the street art. The immediate area has cool vintage stores, great coffee shops, bakeries, & restaurants, and 10 min walk to wonderful book stores, hat shops, and the art museum. Chinatown and Little Italy is just a couple streets away which was so convenient. We loved our stay here. Thank you to the folks at Kensington Place Apartments!
- Lucy (6/5): - It was not as bad as other reviews. The location is very close to Chinatown and center city. Within minutes walk to Chinatown. Inside the property is clean, however, outside the property was dirty with graffiti and pigeons droppings. Seems like the property just recently got renovated so the smell of old moldy houses still there. There is a garage to park the car but it took property management a while to give us the correct code. Property management response promptly to inquiries which was good, however they messed up our reservation. When we went to the assigned room, somebody was already there, thankfully they still have another room to switch. Air condition is controlled remotely so the room didn’t feel cool and can’t adjust anything. Overall, I would stay again for the price and the convenience location.
- Tejasvi vanapilly (8/5): - Inside its very a good service but surroundings its very un confortable to work with family and unsafe .
- edouard (8/5): - To be honest way better than the review said. However, not 5 star cleanliness but still fine. Also, small kind of sketchy street to get there. But still safe.
Perfect for lower budget.
- niraja (8/5): - Location was good .
- Verified traveler (2/5): - ******BEWARE******* do not stay here it is in a creepy back alley, with a sketchy garage for parking and the front door is also extremely
- Verified traveler (8/5): Kensington - Great deal in funky neighborhood boasting lots of street art, vintage stores and diverse food options. Virtual check in and out was not clear up front, but easy.
Apartment was clean and well maintained. Only complaint is that shower needed to drain better or have some kind of lip/barrier as it flooded the room and made for a soggy experience.
- veronique (4/5): - The room was located in an apartment complex down an alley way that was blocked off by the less fortunate( homeless). We had to drive around the block 5 times to find a way in. Once arrived in the parking garage the main door to building was not locked ( tape covered the latch of the door). The room was VERY dirty from top to bottom. The floors were not swept or mopped. There was dirty, urine and feces all over the walls near the toilet and around the toilet. The bed sheets were dirty and stained. The mattress had so much dirt and debris in the creases. It was very noisy all night, people yelling outside and people slamming doors and stomping upstairs (walls were very thin). The “hotel” has no check in counter. In order to talk to someone you have to call them and the staff were not knowledgeable and very hard to understand. I was asked 5 times to repeat myself, when all I asked was “ where is the parking located”…
- Alex (6/5): - I have a very mixed impression about this property. On one hand, being around Kensington Market was such an amazing experience, and very close to/accessible by everywhere around DT Toronto.
But on the other hand, the alley that leads to the building, and the building itself are in such a bad state that I had to convince my friends it was safe to actually come up.
Once in, again, the apartment was very nice and clean and modern, except for what was supposed to be "the kitchen" which was a couple of cheap plastic tables with no appliances other than the fridge, and with only 1 coffee pod when I was staying for 2 nights! Also in the bathroom there was no shampoo, only conditioner.
- Nadeem (10/5): - Very nice
- Verified traveler (2/5): Absolute Scam - Don't be fooled by the hotel beds they bought for the photos. This is just a repurposed foreclosed apartment building. You're greeted by a graffiti-filled alley and a door that is taped open. The inside of the "hotel" is filled with graffiti as well. I arrived and all of my linens were used and thrown on the ground by the previous customer. The AC didnt work in the unit I was given. They gave me a different room, where the AC also did not work. The units are combined. Someone was cooking in the unit below me, and the smell from it stayed in my unit for hours. Garbage trucks with the loudest reversing sounds I've ever heard drive in the alley outside your windows from 11pm to 3am. You'll need your windows open because your AC will be broken. Avoid at all costs.
- Tikvah (2/5): - Truly not my style of a place. This is good for some teens who don't care much where they sleep.
bathroom is out of code, no AC, can't exactly open windows, surprised how Toronto city was not notified yet. this reminds me of the movie, hangover, where you find a place in the back alley, exactly that, felt so unsafe that I asked to have them move me. I had to call them a few times until they gave me a place.
- colin (10/5): - All good so far maybe could improve security a little on the broken door locks
- Edward (6/5): Clean room in a rough area - The room was fine for the price category but the alleyway entrance was very sketchy and hard to find. The main hotel entry needs a sign to identify the hotel and the entry security lock is still held open by tape, as noted in past reviews. At least one entrance pic should be provided in the online hotel ad so customers know what to expect. No explanation why hotels.com requested me to reword this honest review which does not violate any of the rules cited for submitting reviews??? My review is very fair!
- naimul (2/5): - Four nights we couldn't sleep. Because AC DID NOT WORK.
- Gillian (8/5): - Walkable but lonely at night.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Absolutely Horrible. - This is the email I have sent to the property: "This experience put us entirely out of accomodations for our trip to the city. Not only was the building incredibly hard to find, but the location is in the same state as a landfill. Upon arrival, there was no parking which was unacceptable as the online information provided dictates that there is parking. There was a group of men physically fighting (an altercation), to which we could not pass to enter the property.
When googling this property, it does say permanently closed. Overall the listing is VERY deceiving from what you see when you arrive. I would recommend transparency and attaching exterior photos so that you do not run into this type of event again. I cannot fathom why the marketing for this location is as untruthful as it is."
I have yet to hear back, and I have requested a refund as this experience was overall horrible.
- Adam (8/5): - The area is dirty. And the place was hard to find. But once we finally found it. The rooms were very clean and neat.
- Krysten (2/5): - NEVER STAY HERE. I’m not from around Toronto, saw the photos of this place (inside only). Thought it looked pretty decent. Booked the apt last minute. Arrived to location, rundown part of town, very tight access. I drive a pickup truck and it was very tricky to get inside. They allowed me to park in their shared garage. We opened the garage and it wreaked of marijuana. I could barely get my truck in to park. I informed the owner who then stated that I did not tell them I had a truck and that it wasn’t their fault I couldn’t fit. Not to mention the garage door kept closing when I was trying to get the truck in and since we didn’t see any garage sensors we were worried the garage was going to close down and damage the truck. At this point we all wanted to leave, because we we’re starting to feel more and more unsafe. But, I decided to try again and finally was able to get in the garage and just squeeze into a parking spot. We got to the access door, only to find the key pad was not on. I then noticed the door looked taped, I pulled on the handle and saw that someone had taped the locking latch of the door to keep it open. I contacted the owner and they responded saying, someone broke it earlier that day….at this point we were becoming more and more concerned for our safety, we went up the rundown stairs to find the apartment. There were lights on in the apartment and it looked like ppl were inside. That was it for me. Requested a refund, due to unsafe conditions, owner refused.
- Gabriel (10/5): - Sincerely, thank you very much. I was really surprised from the place! It's quiet, clean, really feels like home. Easy to access, possibilities of private indoor parking, professional employee, courteous and attentive.
I STRONGLY recommend this place that will be up to your needs, I guarantee it
- Christine A (4/5): - The neighborhood turned out very good. But apartment itself had heat stuck on 85 F and windows were screwed shut. When we called to get assistance, only the voicemail was available. Maintenance needs to be done before this is rented again. Window replacement and fix heat.
- Corey (2/5): - Booked a room at Kensington Place Apartments and got a completely different room than what I selected. Immediately tried to contact the property but they were not answering calls. When they eventually did answer, they made us wait hours to see if they could put us in the room we were expecting but couldn’t accommodate us. Upon cancellation they tried to only give us a partial refund because we were already there (we immediately contacted them). The room had a very strong smell of pine sol and was in a sketchy area. I would recommend not booking!!
- Andres (10/5): - Pros: The apartment is nice, well equipied with kitchen, te place or neigbourhood is very cozy with several restaurants.
Cons: rooms without closets, no broom or mop to clean if there an accidentall mess, bathroom was no clean at 100%.
In general a very good opcion, I recommend.
- Ross (2/5): - Please take a picture of the area
- Juan (2/5): - Terrible
- Paige (6/5): - heat did not work outlets in both bedrooms did not work and pull out couch did not pull out properly and seemed to be damaged
- Deborah (4/5): - Not really a secure apartment for the area! Front door does not lock, door to the apartment does not lock. However bedroom and living room did lock! No TV as we did not have password. Alleyway dark until just before entrance and very uneven to walk holes etc. They knew three of us however two cups that’s all.
