Guest Reviews
- Candace (8/5): Really liked the place just wish they would have honored the pet fee that was on their website. - The place was better than expected. Staff were super friendly. Our tv wasn't working and they came and replaced it ASAP. Beds were super comfy and blankets were soft. Air conditioner worked great which was so nice because it was so hot. We couldn't take a shower because it was just to scary, all the tiles were falling off the wall.
The website said it was $10 per night for pets and after I confirmed my "non refundable" stay they informed me that it was $30 per night for a pet. I said that is not what the website says and they said they hadn't updated it yet. I feel they should have honored the price or given me the option to cancel my reservation.
- Syemuna (3/5): Poor -
- Anonymous (7/5): Good -
- Alfred (8/5): - Bathroom fan not working.
Hardly any hot water at night.
For the money, bathroom does not look good and old.
- Jim (6/5): Pleasant -
- Anonymous (5/5): We got what we paid for. Hotel a bit shabby but good location. - Bedding was stained. Only 2 lights in room. Pillows stained.
- Greg (8/5): - Reasonably priced - thought it was great for what I needed.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Hotel in need of overhaul - Hotel was in need of renovations and upgrades. Room was not very clean and had alot of stains and disrepair. No screen on windows. Air was stagnant and lacked circulation. Smelt of mold everywhere.
- Sophia (9/5): Superb - Beds and pillows đ
- Jeff (1/5): Bad - Got locked out and had to wait 1.5 hours to get back in. Nobody answered the phones
- Dale (7/5): Good -
- Dolores (9/5): Superb -
- Reichlin (7/5): Good - They to some work, the stuff are very friendly and helpful. Restaurant is right there. We had a nice time They doing a good job.
- Damy (6/5): - Room was ok for for my needs. Seems doing renovations. Around the building and parking lot was messy. Staff was ready to take care of any needs.
- DOROTHY (6/5): - This property is old and hotel from the 80âs. Lobby closes at 10 pm and does not open in the morning. If get out of the lobby you will be lock out and you will not get. You have to make several calls to get in. Our first room was hot due to defective window AC so we have to move to another room. We cut short our stay from three nights to two nights instead.
- George (10/5): - This was a nice, quiet, comfortable place to stay on our roadtrip to Tofino. After a few unpleasant nights in Duncan, thia was a huge step for a much better price. Will ve stating here again.
- George (6/5): - On checkout, keys are left in a bowl at the front desk for anyone to access. Someone can go in and damage the room or steal and the guest could be held liable.
- Roni (7/5): Good hotel with bonus pubs attached - Good price for what you get. The hotel and room need some Renos. Updating. They were clean just in need of a makeover. The rooms were clean. Bed was comfortable. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We needed to switch rooms due to the heat and lack of ac. The new room had ac and they didn't hesitate to help us out. There are 2 pubs and a liquor store attached to the hotel. Both were great and good staff. Food food as well. I would stay there again despite the aesthetics. It wasn't loud either with the pubs there. Needs updating
- Clinton (2/5): - Room was basically clean. The very old small air conditioner didnât work. Other rooms were looked at and the the same shoddy old Window small units. The staff guy was friendly but hardly spoke English that was understandable. Donât stay here. Just horrible experience.
- brad (2/5): - Black mold along window, moldy coffee left in coffee maker. Stains on the walls.
- Smudgelady1 (2/5): Just donât - By far the worst room and hotel I have ever been in. Dirty, dark, wall paper in bathroom filthy and hair on floor. They say good location, one restaurant (which actually was good), overlooking a dump of old boats in a field, bird stuff on windows, huge weeds outside. Nothing like the pictures. I see fantastic reviews and figure they must be paid.
- Jeffrey (10/5): Exceptional - The front desk gave great tips on where to eat and shop nearby â all in walking distance.
Really convenient if youâre new to town and donât want to drive everywhere.
- Daphne (3/5): Poor -
- Anonymous (7/5): Good - It is right next to the highway, has a couple of Tim Hortons close by. More than the hotel, I think it's the town itself, almost everything closed at 7 PM and opened at 11 AM the next day. The beds were really small, I was expecting queen beds, but they were unusually small for queen beds. The room did not feel clean-- neither did the bathroom.
- Yue (10/5): - The staff were kind and easy to talk to, and the whole place â from the hallway to the room â was spotless. Really appreciated the care they put into keeping it clean.
- traceycF1599QB (4/5): What a dump! - Broken down overpriced hotel. Stained bed cover. Everything is broken. Didnât even want to shower here. One night was too long. Pay $50 more and stay somewhere else. What more can I say. You have been warned. Cute town (port Alberti) with nice riverside walking path and some nice restaurants. Breakfast at the broken bow was great.
- Joe (10/5): - The room was warm and cozy, and when we asked for an extra blanket, it arrived within five minutes. You donât get that kind of service everywhere.
- Baozhen (10/5): - Glad to stay at this place for the comfortable rooms and fair rates. â Iâd be happily to return if work brings me back.
- Qing (10/5): - The front desk gave great tips on where to eat nearby â all walking distance. Super convenient if youâre new to town and donât need to drive everywhere.
- Lara (6/5): - I surprisingly slept well for how thin the walls were. Other guests were respectful. It is a very convenient location and a good price for a nightly accommodation. The linens seemed fresh.
But I will share that the room had stained towels, no extra toilet paper, there was bird excrement all over the exterior window, no fan in the bathroom for moisture, and the front desk lacked any customer service or sense of friendliness. A smile really would make a different impression with customers. Only okay for a one night stop if there is nowhere else to stay.
- Ju (10/5): - For a short stay, we wanted something clean, simple, and dependable â and this place delivered exactly that without any hassle.
- Yingyan (10/5): - Came with friends on a quick trip â rooms were tidy, staff were helpful, and it had a kind of relaxed charm that made our stay feel special, even if short.
- Yu (10/5): - Came with friends on a quick trip â rooms were tidy, staff were helpful, and it had a kind of relaxed charm that made our stay feel special, even if short.
- Baozhen (10/5): - Visiting for work and was happy to find such a place thatâs reasonably priced and comfortable. Itâs been a good experience so far, so Iâll be continuing my stay.
- Lan (10/5): - Just stayed overnight on our way to the next destination. The room was quiet, check-out was fast, and we left feeling rested and ready to keep going.
- Hebe (7/5): Good - Location
- Nan (10/5): - After a full day of driving and sightseeing, arriving here felt like a break within the trip â the kind of place that resets your energy rather than just giving you a bed.
- Siqi (10/5): - The front desk team was friendly without being overbearing â just the right amount of casual and helpful. I asked a few questions about the area, and they gave great, simple suggestions.
- Yongxin (10/5): - From the moment we arrived, everything went smoothly. Parking was straightforward, the check-in process didnât drag, and we were in our room within minutes.
- Na (10/5): - Itâs nice to have shops and restaurants nearby without sacrificing peace and quiet. We had everything we needed close by, but the room stayed calm and undisturbed through the night.
- Lis (8/5): - Its a great little place, easier on the dollar, definitely dated, but okay. A bit older smell as expected from an old building, but rooms are clean, beds are comfy, has tv, fridge and micro. Good coffee in the room. Its a reasonable place, staff is friendly. But if you are looking for highclass, it isn't for you. But we have stayed a few times and its a good place. Not fancy but good little place to rest. :)
- Xiaopu (10/5): - Fantastic. You can literally walk out and hit three types of cuisine within few minutes â buffet, BBQ, and a bakery. And the lobby design makes it easy to come and go quickly, which I really appreciated.
- Peng (10/5): - After hours on the road, all we wanted was a hot shower, quiet space, and a soft bed â this place nailed them all. Also, there was even a microwave and fridge that helped us make late snacks easy.
- Yunqi (10/5): - Quite easy to find a late dinner nearby â lots of food options within walking distance, and we didnât have to get back in the car after checking in, which was great.
- Yuhan (10/5): - Even though itâs near a main road, the room feels quiet and comfortable through the night. We both fell asleep quickly â which says a lot after hours on the road.
- linda (10/5): - Excellent
- Shuran (10/5): - Staff here were genuinely helpful â not just polite, but really attentive when you needed some assistances.
- Liang (10/5): - Tucked in a convenient spot near all kinds of food and shops, the hotel still felt quiet and restful. We had no trouble getting a good nightâs sleep and waking up refreshed.
- Jiahui (10/5): - Everything felt easy and welcoming from the moment we arrived. The staff were patient and clear when offering help, which made a real difference.
- Sue-ellen (2/5): Will not return - Nothing Room very small. Water not hot. Fire extinguisher out of date. Poor communication at checkin
- Sue-ellen (4/5): Find somewhere else - Not much Language communication/comprehension issues when checking in. âHotâ water only lukewarm in the evening. Fire extinguishers on wall clearly out of date. Rooms extremely small. Too small to have two double beds
- Jean (10/5): - After a long day of drive, the room felt really clean and relaxing. Check-in was quick with some friendly reminders, and the hotel is conveniently close to a good variety of restaurants and shops.
- Sean (2/5): Very poor -
- Chelsea (4/5): - They kept up dirty towels.. there was a leak in the room.. beds were uncomfortable.
Says the doors will be locked at 10PM, we get back at about 9:50 and the doors are already locked. Before us there was another couple waiting to get back inside. We called so many times, they werenât answering
- Brian (4/5): - Smell and poor maintenance
- K. (4/5): - The lobby door was locked on our arrival at 10:30 The room was extremely cold all we had for heat was a small roll along heater. There was hardly any hot water certainly not enough for a good shower
- Noel (1/5): Awful. Would only advise not to stay here. - Entry was not inviting. No one at reception. Rooms were abysmal. Minimal heat. Curtains falling down. Mold on grout in shower. Towels were like dish clothes.
- Kimberly (4/5): - This used to be a lovely accommodation. It is disgusting now.
Got locked out every time I went out the front doors as they have no staff at the desk in the evening/night/morning.
- Julian (2/5): - Very smelly smelled like old milk and cat pee
- Darren (2/5): - Cold, no staff around. Doors locked at 10pm. No lock on door.
- Tammy (2/5): - This hotel is very dated, dirty, smelly, staff hard to communicate needs with, and had no heat. Small space heater provided, no door locks.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Stinky hallways, unfriendly staff and is it legal to lock the front door at 10pm and not give visitors a key?
- Elizabeth (4/5): - Some kind of machinery below our room made a terrific noise exactly every 15 minutes all night long. Room was shabby, threadbare sheets, one lamp for the whole room, ridiculously small stained towels. It was gross. Staff was interesting the front desk person had on an orange hoodie with the hood over his head. Friendly enough but reception smelled bad, room smelled like the decades long smoking room it used to be. Our âviewâ was over a trash filled junk yard. Do better people, you could make a fortune off tourism if you got your act together. The restaurant was amazing though. We are from Port Alberni and would be willing to try again if you can clean it up.
- Tarnjit (1/5): I will never stay there again. - Very poor condition. Not maintained at all Heat wasnât working neither was the shower. It smelled bad
- Oliver (3/5): Poor - There was no lock other than the door hinge. Place was sketchy. felt like I needed 2 extra locks. room was in rough shape. would not stay there again.
- Lioubov (2/5): - Everything is outdated: showers are leaking, bathtubs have no plugs, sinks are rusty with a lot of cracks. Rooms were dusty with filthy spots on TV and table.
It was obviously overpriced. The only good thing was that this hotel accepted dogs, but it was quite unreasonable to pay $30.00 for a very clean, quiet, older dog.
- Tara (4/5): - .
- George (7/5): Good -
- Gale (1/5): I didnât stay even one night. I checked in, saw the room and left. - I didnât stay Cold, dirty, smelly and zero normal security measures
- Nancy (8/5): Very good - Good price, clean It was very out of date and in need of some renos but it suited my needs. The only issue was they locked the front door at 11pm and didn't open them until around 9:00am. Room key didn't open any of the outside doors.
- Darlane (5/5): Passable - Quiet room
- Gea (4/5): Very dated hotel - Nice staff and perfect location if you are traveling. The smell, old and cheap furniture, no vibe.
- Aleks (8/5): Very good -
- Tracy (6/5): Pleasant -
- Tara (1/5): Awful!!! - Nothing We had NO hot water whe we were there! If you go outside for a smoke staff follows you putside! Cable didnt work, beds uncomfortable, room was disgusting!
- Heather (3/5): Poor - Not much to like Kicked in front door. Concerned for our safety. Security latch on our room door was broken. No one on premises after 10. No secure key drop off at 8:10 am. Instead it was put in a bowl on the front counter where anyone could take it. This hotel needs a great deal of upgrades to improve it I would never stay there again nor recommend it
- Leslie (3/5): Poor -
- Magesh (6/5): - Cheaper than staying in the west coast of the island - but the cleanly, overall look, and experience was sub par - however, it was offered at a lower price than stays in uchelet - that made it acceptable- port area is nice
- Stephanie (2/5): - Our room smelled like a smoking room, there was no hot water to shower and a terrible shower set up that was missing basic supplies. Couldnât open windows at all to air it out, unhelpful check in with added fees. Not clean
- Lorisa (9/5): Superb -
- Nancy (4/5): Disappointing - The bed was comfortable. It was a very cold and wet day, and the air conditioning was on. There was no heat available. The hair drier was not working and the water was not hot.
- Joanne (3/5): Poor - The desk clerk and staff spoke very little English. There was no water as a result of water issues during the night with no warning from staff. Although the bed was comfortable, I was unable to use the shower, or toilet. The TV was very small and set too low to view. A partial discount should have been offered to compensate. The inability of staff to communicate was very frustrating!
- Colton (4/5): - I stay at lots of hotels all around northern/southern BC , Alberta , Saskatchewan, and Manitoba for work and just my own traveling experience. This hotel is by far one of the worst ones Iâve been at , I wish I read some of the reviews before dropping in . The first night I came back on a Friday night and the front door was locked and you are not given a scan card or nothing to get back in . It does say the door is locked after 11 but in a Friday night seems a little crazy especially when visiting a town . I ended up sleeping in my truck that night cause I couldnât get in . The next day the water was out and the day before I had no hot water . The rooms themselves are fine if you donât look too hard at the carpet and the walls which could use a good cleaning . I would not recommend staying here if you are coming to port alberni especially if you are going out at night cause then you will not be able to get back into the hotel .
- 867trevf (2/5): Sketchy place - Very dirty, no hot water for showers, poor reception, hand written receipts in full details( business related) cigarette burns on side tables, poor room door locks, felt like a hotel paid by the hour, canât control the room heat. Pass on this place
- Paul (4/5): - Bed bugs. Low water pressure on bathroom sink
- Aimee (7/5): Good -
- Norman (8/5): Very good - Very close to boat launch Front door locked at 11pm
- Wendy (8/5): Comfortable stop over on way to Ucluelet - A convenient stopping place on our way to the Pacific coast, Ucluelet and Tofino. A comfortable clean room. A ten minute walk to restaurants and craft brewery. Appearance was a bit run down but didnât spoil a good nights sleep & access to facilities we needed for overnight.
- Roger (2/5): - No ac and its hid beside the tv cabinet.
No hot water, and the tub drain is plugged.
No screen in the window and to lock it, it leaves a 2" opening.
It has carpet and its very dirty.
It looks like the last time it was renovated was back in the 80's
- Emma (2/5): Very poor -
- Robert (6/5): Was not the best stay - The city view no hot water in the morning, the linens were dirty, general shabbiness of the premises, sketchy characters hanging around the hotel
- Robert (5/5): Passable - The A/C could have functioned properly. There was no hot water on Sunday morning during Shower.
- Veronica (2/5): Staff not around beds and pillows horrible not hot water for showers -
- Amber (4/5): - Doesn't matter what time of day tried to shower no hot wster. Noisy could here every step up and down stairs aswell as elevator. Bucksnort pub was great food however and service was excellent.
- Robert (7/5): Iâll book this hotel again - Bar and resterant
- Steve (6/5): Pleasant -
- Rudy (5/5): Passable -
- Karen (5/5): Never again - Location There was no Lightbulbs in the lamps, soap in the bathroom, decent pillows.
Lock was busted and weird to get in room
In the morning someone sleeping in the hall
Only two packets of coffee
- Andrew (2/5): Very poor -
- Catherine (4/5): - Hotel spelt like cat urine. Staff had trouble understanding me (speaking English). Tried to give me a room I did not request. Would not stay here again.
