Guest Reviews
- Parag (2/5): - It was a horrible experience as I found the hotel locked when I arrived there around 10pm. Nobody turned up or pick up phone at customer service. I needed to book another hotel while standing outside in order to avoid the cold night out.
- mark (2/5): Not anything like the description on the site - The picture is not of the actual Hotel. The room was dirty and the bathroom/shower was not usable. There was nothing in the room like a kettle or an hairdryer.
Stay well clear from this place
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not good - Old tavern with about 10 hotel rooms. View from the room was bad and windows were broken, holes in the bathroom, old and crappy. Not the most expensive hotel, but hotel was worse then expected.
Rooms were noisy.
- Paul (2/5): - A 1 star at best, no kettle, no hand wash or body wash or shampoo, noisy toilet, no hot water in the shower.
Won’t ever be staying here again.
- simon (4/5): - Very low quality and you get what you’ve paid for. Hotel is in a good location for London travel network, pub is cheap and it offers parking for free.
Shame really as this would be a really nice place done up and had some money spent on room conditions and comfort.
Bed is old (sprung), room wasn’t clean still had previous occupants rubbish in bin and en-suite facilities are poor and unclean.
But location is amazing as is the price for a stay in London. Pay for what you get and I’ve stayed in worse places.
- Mohammad (10/5): Great hotel and friendly staff. - This was our second time staying at The Railway Tavern Hotel and once again great value for money and very close to where we was visiting. Very friendly staff and free parking is included on their secure car park on the hotel grounds. Will be booking again next time we are in East London.
- Keith (4/5): Poor, vey poor - A very run down pub/hotel.
- anders (10/5): Autentisk sted, med en dejlig pub⚒️ - Autentisk sted, med en fantastisk pub.
Up the irons⚒️⚒️⚒️
- Philip (8/5): - It was close to the station and was perfect for getting to the london stadium the next morning.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not very comfortable, but well located. - The guy who welcomed me was kind and polite. The accommodation is in an old building and the facilities show the age. The bed was a spring bed and I felt the springs on my body, I didn't sleep well at all. There was this weird loud noise that kept coming from the toilet every now and again.
It's less of a hotel, more of an old residence located on top of a pub.
It was nice that the there was parking on site and it is a short walk from many places around Westfield in Stratford.
- Katy (4/5): Cheap basic hotel - Great hotel for a basic cheap stay to get your head down.
- Harriet (10/5): - Second time staying and it was fantastic again. Staff are very helpful and friendly, and the rooms are nice. Would definitely go back
- Braedon (10/5): Comfy room, friendly staff - Was in London for a concert, this place was fairly close by and priced very well compared to other hotels in the area. Room was clean and comfy and the staff were friendly.
- John (6/5): - stayed one night for a football match and it was fine. Clean comfortable bed. Great secure parking. friendly staff.
- Harriet (10/5): - Fantastic stay and staff really helpful and kind :)
- 469annekeb (2/5): Slecht hotel. eigenlijk Airbnb - You call it a hotel, I would call it an Airbnb because there is NO service at all, you can not have a breakfast, during your stay the beds are not made, the bathrooms is not cleaned, I thing also not cleaned before we came because the basket was full !
The shower is very dirty, in desperate need of a new one ! the woodwork from the windows is rotten, the paint is very very bad, there is a "new" window on the inside which cannot close (is also broken) therefore it is very noisy in the room.
The carpets on the stairs and landing are old and durty.
- James (6/5): - A
- Escape658943 (2/5): Avoid staying here - The plumbing in the rooms is connected to the main drainage by an electric shredder & pump system that is incredibly loud. This is not too bad in the day, but when trying to sleep at night, anyone in any of the rooms flushing the toilet, running a tap etc. sets off the system, shocking you awake with what sounds like a small jet engine starting up next door.
- Frode (6/5): OK, men trenger vedlikehold... - Slitent, men OK med tanke på beliggenhet. Burde være mulig å få byttet lyspære i nattbordbelysning... Og fixa litt på baderommet. Fryktelig støyete, fra biltrafikk og løse persienner i lett vind.
- Tracey (4/5): Needs attention. Not a 4 star hotel. - The Railway Tavern is in a good location close to Stratford Station. The rooms are a good size but sadly need some attention. No handwash or shower gel in the bathroom. Dirty mirrors.Only one bedside lamp working. The room was generally clean but lacked the kind of attention to detail which I would expect for a 4 star hotel.
The bathroom needed a more thorough clean and would benefit from having dome items updated. The basin waste is very old and dirty. The macerator needs attention as it doesn't flush properly and then goes off randomly without warning. No tea and coffee making facilities was a big disappointment.
Generally The Railway Tavern would benefit from some attention outside and in to make it a more attractive place to stay and to warfant the 4 star rating.
- Linda (2/5): - No soap no hot water not tea or coffee facilities very noisy
- H9456FUtonyj (2/5): Avoid at all costs! - We spent 10 minutes in.the room before handing the key back, writing off £226 and booking elsewhere. On arrival, the windows were wide open. After closing them it became quickly apparent it was to try and get rid of a smell of some sort. No shower gel in the dingy bathroom and not even a kettle. The whole place is awful although the owner was very pleasant when we arrived.
- Dragon1973 (4/5): Near a station - It was near a railway station. The pics don't match the hotel. Dusty and rusty. The hot tap was a trickle. No shower gel or anything. Very run down.
If you aren't bothered about comfort or washing, thuis place is ideal for you.
The pub downstairs was ok
- Menino (2/5): - I was misled by the photograph which was posted on the online advertisement showing a location by a lake. The hotel was rated as a 4 star which I beg to differ. It also advertised a menu providing food but there was no existing kitchen and no food provided not even a cup of coffee in the morning. The room I was provided on the top floor had a permanent window which was a quarter open due to being jammed. The bed side lamps did not work, The cold water tap in the bathroom sink did not work and there was no shower gel provided. There was only half a toilet roll provided for a two nights stay. I would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone and it’s definitely not a 4 star hotel as advertised. We were just anxiously waiting to leave the hotel.
- Deborah (6/5): Rough and ready - Not the cleanest of hotels, the toilets are in a poor state, needs a lot of TLC. The staff are really friendly and helpful, it’s close to the tube station so easy to get around. There is secure parking. My biggest gripe is no tea and coffee facilities.
- Paul (4/5): Boende i Stratford - Tyvärr riktig sunkigt hotell. Saknades glödlampor i bägge sänglamporna.
- Keely (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE - Complete catfish! Broken window, radiator, sink, no shower gel, crap pillow (only one) no kettle, stains duvet, mattress, false nail on floor, filthy rotten windows and sills….remote didn’t work, no bin, the list is endless
- richard (8/5): - The staff was simply amazing
- Jeremy (2/5): - Expected a renovated space in an old building. Got a cold room with dried blood stain on the sheets. No maid service in three days there. Advertises food. No food. Saw 4 guys assaulting a kid a block away as I walk to the hotel from the train station when I arrived. Bashed my head leaving through the tiny dodgy gate before sunrise, no lights in that area. Next time I'll pay the extra $20 per night and stay somewhere else.
- Sam (8/5): - Simple accommodation for the visitor on the go. Perfectly serviceable for what I needed.
- Tanniemola (2/5): - Location was the only thing good about it. It was dirty, no amenities, bathroom shower door was defective and we had to go to pub to check in. Could hear flushing toilets of neighbour rooms.
- Victor (4/5): - Hotel was over rated! Room was dirty, toilet didn’t flush properly, took 2/3 times to flush!
No tea/coffee facilities! Only plus was bed was comfy and a decent shower!
- Lauren (8/5): - Comfortable, clean bed and towels. Hot shower. Good location for Westfield and the station if you’re going further afield (central London only 30 mins away on Elizabeth line). Traditional boozer downstairs…. Perfect.
- David (10/5): - So great price and very good location for staying in Londoner Westfield and Olympic park stadium staff good clean room looks like they are doing them
Up carpet clean bed really comfortable clean old
Hotel pub but good atmosphere
- heidi (10/5): Great for copper box - Needed somewhere to stay for event at copper box n this ticked all the bixes: 15 mins walk, secure parking n 24 hour desk
- plaistowpundit (8/5): Horses for courses - This review is for the Pub only.
Excellent value, good service and plenty of space.
We had a post West Ham match drink here and the atmosphere was good.
The furniture and decor don't look like they been upgraded in thirty years but the trade off is it is really good value for the drinks !
Horses for courses.
- 176ianp (2/5): False reviews and pics. This place is a squat. AVOID AT ALL COSTS - What a dump. The shower did not work. The toilet seat was hanging off. Dirty female laundry left in drawers. The blinds were filthy. No soap or any beverage making facilities. Not bad for £75- I don't think. If they had not taken payment before I arrived I would have left immediately and told them to do one WRT payment. Booked via Hotels.com. the pics on this site and the reviews are clearly false. Both parties need to up their game. Even a self respecting flea wouldn't stay here. Didn't think I was booking a place in a squat when I booked it.
- Ian (2/5): Terrible. This a doss house. Avoid AVoid AVOID - The Railway hotel, or should I say Squat, which would be more appropriate, is a disgrace. I strongly suspect the reviews are made up. The picture shown is definitely NOT this establishment. The toilet seat was damaged and fell off. The shower did not work. There was no soap, cups or beverage making facilities of any description. They do not food of any type and sell no ales despite having 4 hand pumps. If they hadnot taken my payment before I arrived I would have left immediately and refused to pay.
- Samantha (6/5): Great location for Stratford station - If you are looking for luxury on a budget, this is not the place for you.
Staff were friendly. Bedding was very clean. The rooms were very tired looking and would benefit from a bit of renovation. The bathroom/shower could do with a very deep clean and de-scale. Perfect location for Stratford station. Overall we got what we paid for.
- Paramjit (2/5): - Dirty and dusty window, toilet pot stained, looks like never been cleaned with bleach, sink drain was dirty.Shower drain blocked. TV in the room wasn't working. Could not sleep because of passing vehicles noises all night.
- Anthony (8/5): Proper pub - Proper London boozer. Great beer, great atmosphere and room was OK
Great location, easy parking, would say again.
- Andrew (8/5): - Very friendly staff and manager was very helpful.
Would stay again.
- Henrietta (6/5): Good for a night stay - Good. When we raised concerns it was resolved quickly
- Paul (8/5): Awesome little east end boozer - Good value 5 mins walk from the station.
Friendly staff very helpful.
Would definitely stay again.
Awesome little east end boozer
- Matthew (8/5): Clean and comfortable - Clean and comfortable room, though bathroom could do with a bit of updating. Good location and reasonable price
- Sarah (10/5): Affordable good accommodation - We spent 1 night. Had a nice clean room plenty of space and en-suite bathroom. Easy access in and out of the property using codes for doors. So we could come and go as we please with a member on site to contact by telephone for support. Cheap but very clean. Would stay again
- Evaldas (10/5): Surprise at railway tavern - Second time round I have been given another room, and to my surprise it was even better than the first one!
Very clean and tidy. Definitely coming back.
- Kelly (6/5): - Basic room, no soap or shampoo in the dispensers just empty containers.
- Amdadur (10/5): - Its like 2 star no tea or coffee bed makes noises lol but was just okay
- Osei (2/5): - Good location for a a reasonable price. Toilet flash makes too much noise and hot water was didnt last long
- Mohammad (10/5): Nice clean hotel. - Very happy with our stay at The Railway Tavern Hotel.
- Anthony (2/5): Terrible stay at the Railway Tavern - Terrible stay - shower not working at all , no tv remote, no tea, cups or glasses in the room - I could go on - I want my money back
- Paul (8/5): - Perfect stop over venue
- Vanessa (4/5): - Although the staff were pleasant & accommodating, however our room was in a poor state. Firstly when we arrived there was no heating in our room on a freezing cold day as well, and were told it would be fixed in a few hours. So we had to go out to a coffee place closeby to keep warm. Our bedroom window was flithy with streaks of grey paint smeared down front of window, it seemed like 2 single beds were pushed together to make a double so didnt fit on base properly, the tv on the wall was very old and on the small size, only 3 pillows on bed (although comfy) for two adults sharing, curtains old and tatty. But surprisingly the carpets seemed fairly new and thick. The bathroom sink and windows were dirty, and floor looked like it was on a slope. The shower pressure was also very low making a shower unbearable. Also there were cream paint splashes on toilet lid, bathroom window, metal towel rail and on base of metal tap. So still unsure what was going on with the painter??? The only positive thing about staying here is the short walk to Westfields & a secured carpark!
- BeckyL1666 (2/5): 🤢🤢 - Absolutely revolting avoid at all costs. It stank of damp. The rooms are awful, the whole place needs shutting down. I just could not stay there, so we booked into the premier Inn up the road. (Which was cheaper at £77)
It would be zero stars for me, but to be able to comment I had to give 1star. I can only think that those scoring it higher are friends of the owners. Please avoid 🤢🤢
- davidjonmark (2/5): the management team was quite disrespectful. - We will not return to the pub because the management team was quite disrespectful.
I think he doesn’t like this work. He was completely angry, with no reason.
Other atmospheric is ok , we like to say outside. This pub is really good location, just only the problem the staff ,
- eagertraveller123 (4/5): Awful - Awful pub. Really really appalling. The bar staff seemed clueless - I got my cocktail missing half of the mixer. Took ages, couldn’t figure anything out. Food was due to take 45 min. Really horrible. There were no redeeming features. Would never go back
- 707dawnj (8/5): Friendly staff - Across from Liverpool Street station. Friendly staff, lovely outside seating area. Assistant manager very helpful. Food was tasty but could do with improvement. My friend said that he enjoyed the vegan burger and that it was tasty. My cheese sandwich could have done with more cheese. Prices were good for London.
- Deanhayes1978 (2/5): ABSOLUTE SH17 HOLE - this is a absolute rat hole on every level.....the rooms are rotten, the bar staff looked like they just walked off the set of Jeremy Kyle and The head bar man who wore glasses, seemed to be pissed out of his head for the duration of our stay. Karaoke went on until the early hours, lots of shouting, drug taking and confrontation taking place that we were witness too. I was looking forward to checking out after a night of complaining and not much sleep. breakfast was again another disappointment, at first, snotty eggs, burned bacon and undercooked sausages, the beans were fantastic.
Basically the only good thing about this place is the location, other than that, it’s over priced and everyone who works there are lazy. If it weren’t for the football fans this pub would have been swallowed up by the Tesco brand and been made into an Express shop ...........probably all it’s good for #dump#donteverstayhere#demandyourmoneyback
- HappyStu (4/5): Workers digs - This place reminded me of when we used to work away in London and needed cheap accommodation.. Its not for couples and families, there is plenty more in the area that can offer better value for money. It's over priced and doesn't deliver, the pub is a proper boozer not for kids or folk that are not local.
- m_hargrove (2/5): Rude Staff - Very rude staff when trying to get a drink at the bar. Bar man very unhelpful when asking about the selections of wine on offer. His favourite word seemed to be "yip". Not very inviting at all to tourists.
- thegodfreyfamily (6/5): The old “east end” - Perfect location for Olympic park including the Lee Valley hockey and tennis Center
The Railway Tavern has clean and simple rooms with tea and coffee facilities within the room
The bar offers different types of drinks including food as you would expect for an east end pub .
I’ve stayed here on a number of times as it suits our needs
- withasmiletoday (6/5): Bed near Olympic stadium - We stayed here after a Muse concert at the nearby stadium not wanting to travel back to Hampshire that night.
Yes it’s a bit shabby, but the bed was clean and comfortable, the staff were friendly and we were able to leave our car there whilst we headed into Stratford for breakfast the next morning.
You get what you pay for and this is what £90 buys you in London, you want more then pay more.
- Kouise (2/5): Load music - Booked for the weekend as was close to Olympic Park and tube station. Photos looked ok a bit pricey but was Easter weekend. Once there the building look very tired and so did the rest of the place. Room was clean and tidy but needs updating. First night we had karaoke until 10ish then load music and talking till 1am
Breakfast was ok just had toast but only offered white bread. Second night was a Sunday again we had karaoke until 12am.
The only thing it’s got going for it is it’s location.
- 128janh (2/5): Grubby, noisey, half finished room - Very Very loud Music playing till 1am then people talking in beer garden till 3am. Grubby, rooms not finished, no hairdryer, internet didn’t work, couldn’t hear the telly because the music was so loud. Doors walking up to rooms absolutely disgusting.
- EmmaMc2013 (2/5): Worst hotel EVER - Truly the worst hotel I've stayed in. Dirty overpriced and miserable. There was a disco which meant very loud music until very late. Complaints ignored. Couldn't wait to leave. Toilet and shower had not been cleaned in a long time. The toilets plumbing made a very loud noise every half hour all through the night
