Guest Reviews
- Francesca (10/5): Increible - Staff excelente, muy buena atención
- Joshua (10/5): Super chilled, unreal views, amazing people….. that’s all you need in life - This was one of the most relaxing stays I’ve ever had. Everything about this was perfect. Pictures online do not do it justice. The staff were so lively, helpful and all in incredible.
The food was unbelievably amazing. The chef should be given an award for how good it was.
If given the chance this should be the place you stay. They have a dog as well which is the little guardian on the hotel but she is super friendly and playful. This is not a problem with the property it’s self but the whole beach front. Everywhere is playing music from 10am so there no where really to go to have some peace and quiet just to enjoy the nature.
If you stay over night. I’d advise early rise and early bed. I was up at 6am to get a few hours of peace before the music started
- James (10/5): Paradise found! - I write this review having 25+ years in luxury hotel experience...
Versatility is key! Let me share why; the staff loves, appreciates, values you and takes pride in what they do. This is next level beautified and simplified. Embrace the island lifestyle and some off the grid feeling moments. Waking up to the ocean outside our patio door, hearing the waves throughout the night, and seeing the stars above while dancing in the ocean has been priceless.
As an observer I saw that they take care of their external (tour guests) and internal guests. I am perplexed by the reviews that talk so negatively as our experience was absolutely positive.
When we arrived I planned ahead to surprise my wife for our milestone anniversary. Jennifer and team exceeded our expectations with how they decorated our room and we could tell they truly cared about making our experience top notch. It was Four Seasons level! Maria-Isabel friendly smile and Derian accommodating server hospitality was recognized. Osvaldo dedicates 110% to his job as he is the on-site host. Also, a great chef as we enjoyed the shrimp pasta, red snapper, and a light flare complimentary breakfast. He also helps keep this place tidy and clean.
I mention versatility as things are out of their control as they rely on outside resources to bring in water, ice, and a generator to keep electricity flowing through the evening and likely more things we are not familiar with behind the scenes.
We have travelled to other Caribbean beaches and we feel Baru surpasses them with beautiful water and amazing hospitality at the Tequila Sunset beach. Could have a small table in the room to set luggage on and a small soap holder in the shower. But that's it, this hotel is perfect!

- Lucila (1/5): EL PEOR HOSPEDAJE DE MI VIDA - NADA. NO RESERVEN.
NO RESERVEN.

- Jakob (6/5): - Lage, Balkon, Aussicht Matratze, Dusche, fehlende Belüftung
- Constanza (10/5): Excelente servicio - TODO!

- Alexandra (9/5): It was great! - We really loved it here! The room was very nice! The best was Josue, who always looked after us. Even though we didn't speak Spanish, he made such an effort to communicate with us. When we had to leave at 6:00 a.m., he organized everything for us and even made us coffee at 6:00 a.m. and accompanied us back. He was truly great, and he made us feel completely welcome and comfortable!
- Guilette (5/5): Passable - I liked the location because it was super close to not having floating devices everywhere in the water which makes for bad pictures. Also they take care of you 24/7 which made me feel safe. The price range was waaaaaay to much. 300 cop per night? For a room that the toilet didn't flush....electric was very on and off. The owner kept being nosy asking if everything was "okay" and told my girlfriend I always look upset....which I was only upset because he wouldn't stop. We got breakfast in bed but every 15 minutes they knocked on the door to see if we were done with our dishes. Also...no wifi. Had to go next door which had great wifi...so bad excuse for not having any. The fan hardly worked...cost 10 mil for tiny beers where everywhere else on the beach had big beers for the same price. Seemed like they were constantly ripping us off at every chance they could. I definitely would not recommend this hotel. I paid far too much to stay in a rundown place that should only cost 100 cop a night. At MOST. I wish this beach would stop screwing over all the tourists. Bad business
- Nathalie (6/5): Yosue was amazing host and location is prime. Lots of room for improvement. - The location is awesome right by the beach and away from the big day crowds.
The best thing is Yosue, the host of the place he is very attentive, super friendly and always with a big smile I didnt like the prices of food, drinks etc… This place is pricier than nicer nearby ecohotels.
We have a few incidents with roaches we woke up to find a roach dead on the end of the bed :/ and they were roaches on the bathroom.
We have to call a few times because the washroom wont go down
- Christopher (10/5): I enjoyed my stay here. The location was perfect. The staff was very attentive and hospitable. Josue and the front desk - The location was perfect, the beach was relaxing, and the staff was very attentive
- Camilo (10/5): Great - Review: An Unforgettable Stay at an Eco Hotel by the Ocean
Staying at this eco hotel was an experience like no other. Waking up to the sound of the waves and stepping outside to breathtaking ocean views was truly surreal. The hotel seamlessly blends sustainability with comfort, offering an authentic and immersive stay that is perfect for those looking to connect with nature.
One of the standout aspects of this trip was the staff. They go above and beyond to ensure that guests feel safe and well taken care of. They not only provide excellent service but also help protect visitors from persistent local vendors, allowing for a stress-free and enjoyable stay. Their hospitality, warmth, and attentiveness truly elevate the experience.
The food was absolutely delicious, with fresh, locally sourced ingredients that highlight the flavors of the region. The drinks were just as impressive, offering refreshing and well-crafted options perfect for sipping by the water.
This trip is not for the faint of heart—it’s an eco hotel, so it embraces a more natural and sustainable approach to hospitality. But for those who appreciate adventure, stunning scenery, and genuine service, this place is nothing short of spectacular. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique, oceanfront getaway. Everything fine, use their guides and their transport.
- Carrillo (10/5): Exceptional - The location is great! The staff is wonderful! The space is great, you really get to enjoy the beautiful beach!
- Monika (5/5): Passable - The only good things about staying there is the seaview. The staff is nice and helpful too. I usually don't put negative comments and try not to moan but we were so disappointed in this place I thought I had to warn others. We knew it'd be basic but this place was less than that... The room was OK if you don't count for old and very uncomfortable matters, but the bathroom was dirty, towels stained, toilet didn't flush and it was basically next to the bed. There was a very loud music coming from next door from 8am to 10pm, all time. In the evening and early morning they burn rubbish so you can't breathe fresh air. During the day it smells of petrol from the boats coming and going all the time. The food was very basic, not very tasty but super overpriced as everything else there. Baru is a beautiful place with amazing sea water but it is horribly commercialised, loud and overcrowded. There are sellers everywhere and they won't stop nagging you. We bought 3 trips from the hotel - night plankton which was OK, diving, which was horribly unprofessional, chaotic and unprepared (not enough gas for 40mins dive) with wrong and not working equipment, and a 4 islands trip which was overpriced ($100mil pp) and run in Spanish (we don't speak Spanish and they knew it). The worst point was when we landed on a party island for an hour where they tried to rip us off even more with super overpriced food and drinks. We feel we totally wasted our two days of Colombia trip by going there.
- Torres (10/5): A quiet place to relax and enjoy time with friends/family - Great location, sea views that allow you to enjoy the sunset. Staff very kind and ready to help. The food was delicious with a reasonable priced
- Pilar (10/5): Sol y playa - Mar
- Taisia (5/5): It was not for us and we didn’t have all the information - I have to give this review because people need to know some things before booking this place or any other place on Isla Baru because information is lacking on Booking.
For the good sides, I would say the view from sea view rooms and the fact that you are directly on the beach. First my, the hostel is actually a wooden hut. You can see between the wooden racks and all the insects can enter inside.
Secondly, access to this property can be made by boat which comes at an additional cost - we didn’t know anything about this until we arrived there.
Booking a transfer from the airport from the property will cost around double the price you can get elsewhere.
If you pay by card, there is a 10% extra fee. If you pay in euro or dollars, the exchange rate is really low. Better to have in local currency to avoid disappointment.
Food is very expensive at the property, at least double, if not triple from what you pay in Cartagena at a good restaurant.
Water and electricity is limited, but that is acceptable on an island. It would have been nice to know this in advance though, not when we got there.
The room was clean, I verified the sheets and pillows, but unfortunately the island is not very clean itself. You will see rats & big cockroaches on the back of the beach/hostels. This is where all the garbage goes.
We had 2 very big cockroaches in the room and bathroom which honestly made me lost all the sleep.
We decided to leave in the morning (because there was no opportunity in the middle of the night) and we didn’t get any money back. Practically, for two nights stay(only one for us) + 1 meal and the boat transfer (which we knew nothing about) + card fee , we ended up paying 400 dollars which believe me is a looot for what you get.
- Stefan (8/5): Highly recommended! - Our staying at Tequila sunbeach was an exceptional experience.
From even before we arrived Jennifer helped us to get in touch with a trusted taxi driver who took us to Playa Blanca
Once we arrived Jennifer, Diana and the rest of the staff was really helpful, kind and friendly. The staff, together with the beautiful experience with nature made our stay unforgettable.
Tip: ask the staff in advance to help you to get to the hotel, arriving playa blanca is an experience itself and if you don’t know where to go it can be overwhelming.
Tip: if you’re a light sleeper, take some earplugs ;) -
- Dianne (4/5): Over priced for what it actually is - Location was fantastic The room constantly had a toilet smell, especially by the bed (not what you want to go to sleep with).
I got food poisoning from their prawn cocktail.
The whole thing was over priced and I was over charged at the end of my stay.
- Lia (10/5): Exceptional - Very lovely and helpful staff. They made us feel like at home and did everything that we feel us comfortable! Highly recomend this place.
- Neele (3/5): More like a Camp no hotel - -Wrong adress in booking.vom
-No Wlan
-Smelled like gasoline
-We tryed to lower the volume of music a couple times but staff loudered it again After a short time
-During night a generator was extremely loud below us to generate energy for Ventilator, very bad sleep
-unpossible to close the door in the toilets completely
- Kevin (10/5): Clean , friendly , felt like a five star property. Jenni helped coordinate all the tours. beautiful view. - Clean , friendly , felt like a five star property.
Jenni helped coordinate all the tours.
- Barraud (9/5): Amazing stay in paradise !!!! - We liked the location and the staff !!
- Thibaut (9/5): Very nice stay in this beach hotel, the staff and owners are very friendly - The location
- Christoph (10/5): Exceptional - The location was really nice, perfect beach and great view from the balcony. The staff was very friendly and they also arranged a boat trip to see the luminous plancton at night.

Everything that we needed was close by .
