- John (4/5): DIY Basic Survival Hostel - Barú Hostel Club is a DIY Basic Survival hostel for the adventurous. Only the strongest will survive living in a place with no shower or running toilet or electricity or wifi. To take a shower, you need to bring a bucket of water up the stairs and pour it over you. To flushbthe toilet, you need to pour water into the bowl from another bucket. You will definitely detox from social media because there's no wifi and no electricity to charge your phone. The manager is awesome and will fend off the hordes of aggressive hawkers and food vendors who will charge you double the listed price on the menu (by adding fees for using 🏖️ and "voluntary" service tips). Barú is not for the faint of heart, but it's your can make it to the beach, you won't regret it.
