Guest Reviews
- Suresh (10/5): Excellent Location + Host + Facilities - We had a lovely stay overall. The location is excellent, especially being close to Vondelpark, and the room was clean and comfortable. Johannes was very helpful and accommodating, and the luggage storage after checkout was much appreciated. Overall, a very pleasant stay and we really enjoyed our time here. The staircase has uneven step spacing between first and second floor, so we had to be extra careful, especially with our daughter (9 yr) - not a major issue at all.
- Rosemary J (10/5): - Awesome room overlooking the canal! Bright, clean & comfortable. Very accommodating pleasant hosts. Would definitely stay again!
- Jessica (10/5): - We had the best stay here! Everyone was lovely and the room was quite spacious. It does have the typical steep Amsterdam stairs, but Johannes carried up our bags for us which was so kind! Beautiful views of the canal too and cute Henry the Heron. We would definitely recommend.
- viktoriia (10/5): - Something that was unique about the property was the staff. The owner Johannes was beyond helpful and he was able to assist us with any concerns or questions we had. The communication was fast and informative, even before we settled into the hotel. We recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Amsterdam for the first time because the location is phenomenal and the hotel is in good condition and has all amenities.
- Richard (10/5): We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Amsterdam is a wonderful city to explore. Our host Johannes was helpful, informativ - The location was exceptional and as advertised. Our host Johannes had stocked the room with our requested beverages and was extremely responsive via email to address any questions or needs we may have had. The room was spacious and clean. The street was mostly quiet inspite of a bistro on the corner and plenty of foot traffic heading over the bridge. All major attractions were easily accessible by foot or tram. This really wasn’t an issue for us but the stairs are quite steep and narrow. If you have any mobility issues this apartment is not for you.
- John (10/5): Great couples getaway - Beautiful room, views and location with plenty great eating & drinking options in walking distance. Johannes was incredibly helpful throughout. Would definitely recommend for other couples visiting Amsterdam.
- Kevin (9/5): Nice room, great location and host - My wife and I stayed at Canal View Stay in early July 2025. The accommodations were clean and modern, and the location was excellent. Great place to see how the citizens of Amsterdam really live (vs. the CBD which wasn't our cup of tea). When we weren't in art museums, we enjoyed hanging around at the restaurant next door, Gent aan de Schinkel (good food!) or nearby Vondelpark, to watch the parade of bicycles.
Johannes is a terrific host. Communicates well and quickly. He has produced a useful guide for guests with recommendations for food, drink, sights, transport, etc. He loves to help, but disappears until you need him and then, poof!, he's there to assist. Delightful.
And speaking of delightful, an added feature of Canal View Stay is communing with Henry the gray heron (https://tinyurl.com/yske84ce). We had coffee with Henry every morning.
Highly recommend Canal View Stay. Nothing.
- alice (10/5): - fabulous accomodation
just be aware that there are steep stairs for those where it may be an issue
- Elizabeth (10/5): Picture perfect canal house stay in a quiet area - The traditional canal house and quiet location overlooking a canal and bridge - with a great bar/restaurant two doors up and easy access to Vondelpark combined to make this the perfect stay. Johannes was attentive, thoughtful and generous and ensured we had many treats, including drinks, stroopwaffel, Tony’s Chocolonely, nuts etc to snack on. The room was immaculately clean and the bed was comfortable. The stairs up to the room were more like a ladder but didn’t cause any inconvenience.
- Johanna (10/5): A completely charming property, with clean, serviced amenities, picturesque view and convenient location. - What can I possibly say about this property!? We recently had the pleasure of spending 5 nights in this charming little place. The room was absolutely beautiful, complete with plush carpet, comfortable furniture, lovely bathroom, comfy bed and best of all a very sweet window box seat. The windows were fully openable and framed the perfect picture of quintessential Holland. The window box eat was the perfect place to relax with a glass of wine, chilled and ready upon arrival or lovely Nespresso coffee complete with creamy, frothed milk. The view from the room was delightful, exactly as advertised and even more magical in person. The canal view boasted all sizes of little vessels travelling the canal, some even large enough to warrant the rising of the bridge to allow them passage. The location was perfect, literally a couple of minutes walk into the very beautiful Vondel Park hosting two sprawling outdoor cafes, many open grassed areas to sit and enjoy the scenery and a playground for little ones. Just two doors up from the room was a lovely restaurant/bar that was reasonably priced, had friendly staff and a welcoming, quiet atmosphere.
To make the stay extra wonderful and easy, the owners of the property could not have done more to make our stay more enjoyable. From servicing the room daily, or giving space for lazy mornings in, to making sure the tea, coffee and snacks were always topped up. They were knowledgeable about the area and able to make inquiries on our behalf for local bike rentals on Easter Sunday, as well as monitoring if Anne Frank House tickets had become available as we had missed out on booking these.
You will also be provided with a PDF document prior to your stay with absolutely everything you might need from restaurant recommendations to a lovely little introduction to Henry the Heron, a daily visitor that can be seen each morning just outside.
An absolutely wonderful stay in such a charming and beautiful room. What is there not to like? There is a steep stairwell, but in this venue how else would you access such a beautiful view?
- Casandra (10/5): - Stayed in the Canal View Stay for a week with my daughter. Johannes, the host, greeted us when we arrived and showed us the room, gave us some tips and recommendations for exploring the area, and made us feel immediately comfortable and welcomed. The location, close to the entrance of Vondelpark, was convenient to transportation, close to bakeries, drugstores, grocery stores and pharmacies, and far enough away from the city center to feel quiet. The room was lovely with a great canal view, the beds were very comfortable, and the little treats and goodies left for us in the room were nice to have. The best part of our stay, though, was the level of hospitality and warmth we received from Johannes. He made us feel very at home, and even helped me surely daughter with some beautiful tulips and pastries on her birthday. We left feeling like we’d made a friend in Amsterdam. I cannot recommend this place strongly enough. If you have the opportunity to stay here, take it! You won’t regret it.
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful location. Charming room. Very helpful owners. Nothing
- Karen (10/5): - Charming BnB. Lovely view of the canal. There are two flights of tricky stairs, but Johannes takes up your luggage. He also provides snacks, cereal, drinks, and lots of helpful info about the area.
- Apoorv (10/5): - Innes and Johannes are a very lovely host, and the apartment at the top was such a delight to stay in. It's very clean, and all amenities are included as per the listing.
The hosts are so friendly and Johannes took our bags up and down for us!
It's honestly one of the best experiences we have had!! Would stay here again if we are visiting !!!
- Carolyn (10/5): Canal Side In The Trees - If you are lucky enough to book this one room accommodation in Amsterdam, then you are LUCKY! We loved our stay with Johannes and Inna in their canal side aerie. The room is really comfortable, big shower which is unusual in Europe, bed and bedding great, loved having seating area and a counter with a wonderful view of the trees and the peaceful canal. Johannes packed our frig and shelves with breakfast items, snacks and wine and beer and kept up the supply of those yummy Dutch stroopwafels. You do have to be able to climb steep and narrow stairs, but once up it's worth it! And Johannes happily carried our considerable amount of luggage up and back down the stairs. He was always available to help and gave great advice on things to do in town. It is outside of the city center, but easily reached by tram and we appreciated the calm of the neighborhood. We spent our last day on the private canal boat trip Johannes offers. A lovely and relaxing way to see the city and a different perspective. I hesitate to write this glowing review because we loved our stay and don't want this charming place to become so popular that it's not available the next time we visit to Amsterdam!
- robert (10/5): Room with a view. - Our stay started a bit rough, no fault of the owner. The airlines lost our bags. Johannes did everthing in his power to make our stay still amazing. It is very personal, you are his only guest. The view from the room is amazing and everything is a close walk. You are staying in the true Amsterdam not the tourist section. Not to worry the number 2 tram is a short walk away to take you to city center. 1 day in city center was enough. I longed to get back to our section of town near the entrance to Amsterdams largest park. No need to guess what to do or where to eat. Read is professionally made books and you feel like a local in no time. The building is historical and has very steep stairs. Probably not the stay for you if that could be a problem. He will carry your bags to the room. This is a very special stay and I will surely return if I find ourselves in Amsterdam again. Thank you Johannes for a memorable trip.
- Jason (10/5): - Johannes was very welcoming and helpful during our stay. The stay was convenient to walk or bike the city, but also he offered snacks and beverages with the stay. When I’m back in Amsterdam, definitely staying here again!
- stephanie (10/5): - A wonderful place. Location was wonderful: overlooking the canal, near the Vondelpark and walking distance to museums. Johannes is delightful and took very good care of us while we were there. Lots of extra goodies like Stroopwaffles, espresso and drinks. I would definitely stay again when in Amsterdam!
- Tim (10/5): Simply a great experience! - Cute, clean and great location on a canal and walking distance to Amsterdam’s largest park and best museums. View out the windows include watching barges and boats pass under a draw bridge less than 100 feet away. Johannes and Inna are the very best hosts we have ever encountered. Be sure to schedule in advance a private boat tour of Amsterdam’s canals with Johannes at the helm. Living quarters are on the third floor up a steep and narrow staircase. But that’s Amsterdam and part of its charm. Our host did all the heavy lifting!
- Christine (10/5): - We have been plenty of Airbnb but this one is exceptional. The host Johannes actually came to greet us and explained about the area as well as recommendations for restaurants and sightseeing. He thought of the essentials required for the room. It was comfortable and clean and spacious. We will stay there again for sure.
- Christopher (10/5): - Exquisite. The amount of communication prior to our arrival, the attention we received, the peaceful location, and the cleanliness of the room, this is by far the best place we've every stayed. I can't recommend Canal View Stay Amsterdam enough! Wonderful accommodation and owners!
- Kathy (10/5): We loved Amsterdam so much. Canal View Stay Amsterdam was exceptional for three adults. - This property is spotlessly clean and in beautiful condition. The beds were comfy and the owner could not have been more helpful. The steps are typically found in older Amsterdam homes. I had injured a knee before coming so the steps were a challenge for me.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It's a quiet place and close to park.
The room was spacies and cozy.
Canal view was fantastic.
Host was very kind and helpful.
- Ellen (10/5): - Canal View Stay Amsterdam is simply one of the loveliest lodging experiences I've had in more than 50 years of European travel. Our room was exquisitely decorated in an uncluttered and soothing style that immediately induced calm. It was fitted out and supplied with everything we needed.. The location could not be better - just a few steps from Amsterdam's glorious Vondel Park from which we were able to walk to the museums, excellent restaurants and a convenient grocery store - you feel as if you are part of a residential neighborhood which you are. The charming and ebullient owner, Johannes, lives on the property and made himself available literally 24/7 through a What'sApp group chat we created for our visit with recommendations, advice and a constant sense of having a local friend. My opinion: the ideal place to stay in Amsterdam.
- Rachel (10/5): - Johannes was amazing! He made our first trip to Amsterdam memorable. Thank you for an amazing stay.
- Mark (10/5): Our host, Johannes, was remarkable. He made sure we had everything possible and then added little personal touches of hi - There wasn’t anything not to like about the property. Immaculate! Amazing location! All the little things others miss were not missed here! Comfy bed! Great shower! We have stayed at numerous places throughout Europe, and we rate Canal View at the top of our list. Not a thing
- Sue (10/5): Totally relaxation and being able to experience nature in a city - The location was wonderful. The bed and pillows were super comfortable. Everything was bright and spacious. Our host was incredible advising where to eat and go walking Nothing
- Karen (10/5): - This was a wonderful stay and host
Highly recommend
- Rachel (10/5): - Very comfortable stay, many small touches that added to experience, owners very friendly and accommodating.
- Debra (10/5): We had such a lovely visit and this location and room was perfect. We highly recommend. - The place was in a perfect location. We walked through Vondelpark daily. Charming area close to tram/bus and restaurants. It was clean, comfortable and Johannes was the most gracious host. It was perfect. It was fun to be next to the bridge and watch all the bikers/people each morning starting their day.
- Susan (10/5): Johannes, our host was exceptionally friendly and very knowledgeable about the area, Amsterdam and very helpful - The property is close to Vondelpark, very walkable and close to restaurants and the tram
- Marcus (10/5): Awesome place to stay. Will come back! - Johannes is a spectacular host. The location is gorgeous and the flat we stayed in was top quality and super comfortable. Nothing! It was all good 👍
- Malin (10/5): Great experience, truly recommend it! - Attentive hosts who clearly have thought of everything and made great efforts to accomodate every need. It's a very nice and calm area, close to the Vondelpark, which was nice but might also require an extra bit of planning if you're doing long days and plan to visit spots in the north/centre. We were very happy with everything.
- Andrea (10/5): Exceptional -
- Katherine (10/5): I felt like I was at home in my own apartment in a city far away from my home! - Canal View was incredible. The apartment is well-appointed (snacks, tea, coffee, toiletries) and well-decorated (great decor, comfortable bed / pillows / sheets / towels) and the hosts are incredibly friendly. Johannes is the ultimate Amsterdam host -- in addition to the guidebook he wrote and left on the coffee table he was available for questions about the city and the neighborhood as well as carried luggage up and down the steps for me! This isn't even something that I didn't like but want to point out that the steps up to the second floor apartment are steep -- which is very common in Amsterdam -- and was not a personal issue but might be tougher for an older person so good to be aware before booking.
- Nokuthula (10/5): Absolutely incredible! - Canal view stay has to be one of the best BnB experiences that we have ever had. The comfort and home-feel of a BnB was combined with the attention to detail and service found within a design hotel.
I was pleasantly surprised by the space that was larger than expected from the photos. The apartment is in an excellent location walking distance from supermarkets, restaurants, coffee shops and of course - Vondelpark. We became regulars at the bar next door that serves great food and drinks. Johanne's hosting was exceptional throughout the stay and he did everything to make our trip special. We were able to enjoy an incredible private guided canal tour which was the best way to spend my birthday! The attention to detail is unmatched and there seemed to be nothing that wasn't thought about. I will be recommending this place to friends and look forward to staying again on our next trip to Amsterdam! Thank you so much :)
- Wilhelmus (10/5): Most wonderful stay - Well, there is really not enough good things I can say about our stay at Canal View...staring with the owners of this wonderful BnB, they are super helpful, kind and genuine and welcoming, from the first minute we felt special! The BnB it self is very well thought out, everything is in the right place...it is superior quality and very cozy. The cleanness is 10+ and the fridge is stocked with all kinds of goodness. If we ever go back to Amsterdam then this will be the only place we will be staying. One word to describe this place "amazing"
- Lindsay (10/5): - We stayed only one day and night and it was by far the best place we stayed in Amsterdam. The host was very attentive and provided us many complimentary items and services. The host was also very kind to be flexible with us on checking in a little earlier. The apartment was the cleanest we’d seen and super comfortable. Additionally, I highly recommend the location as it’s on a canal, across from a beautiful large park, and many places to eat. My partner and I highly recommend and will intend on staying here when we return to Amsterdam.
- Jill (10/5): Exceptional - Johannes was the most amazing host that you could wish for. Nothing was a problem. The apartment was beautiful, perfectly maintained and serviced daily. The position couldn't have been better without the madding crowds, being able to witness the daily routines of life in Amsterdam. With views right over one of the canals, we were able to see the boats comings and goings and bridge openings. Within walking distance of many wonderful eateries, bars, parks and transport, we were spoiled for choice. Our private canal trip with our host was special and so informative. We loved our stay in Amsterdam and hopefully will return and if so will definitely be staying at Canal View Stay.
- Amit (10/5): Exceptional - I loved being there. The room was large and spacious with a variety of seating areas. Very clean and inviting. The windows face the canal, and the view is stunning. The location is excellent, it’s a good neighborhood and has mostly locals. There are very good cafes and restaurants in the area. It’s just a few minutes walk from beautiful Vondelpark, which will connect you by walking/biking to central Amsterdam.
The room is well equipped with everything - a coffee machine with a variety of coffee capsules, cookies and sweets, a stacked refrigerator with different types of drinks. Everything is suited for your likings prior to your arrival. Try the Stroopwaffles in your cookie gar! It’s the best!
The room itself is equipped with everything you'll need for your visit (and if you're missing something - I'm sure it will be resolved)
Johannes was the best host I have ever met. He was kind and inviting, he gave good recommendations and tips for getting to know the city and was available for any question or request. He helped me enter the Van Gogh Museum - even though it was sold out during my visit. And in the morning he brought me Dutch pastries from the bakery.
For me, after a full day of wandering in the loud and bustling center of Amsterdam, I enjoyed making my way through Vondelpark to a quiet and peaceful place.
In addition, If you’re feeling a bit lazy for dinner- there is a really good place to eat right below your room! Really nice food and atmosphere.
100% will book again in my next trip to Amsterdam!
- Rojas (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was just perfect. The room was super clean and organized. The view is wonderful and the house is just a few minutes walk to the amazing park. The host was so nice, he helped us with all directions and transportation. I’ll come back for sure 😍
- Henrik Drejsig (10/5): Super nice room with a view... - Very nice room, clean and super good bed.
The host Johannes is a top 100 host. Absolutely nothing was missing.
You just have to be careful about the stairs up to the room - it is very steep.
Definitely recommend a boat trip on the canals with host "Kaptain" Johannes and his own fine boat
Henrik & Rie, Denmark
- Chen (10/5): A beautiful space with heartwarming service - I've stayed at lots of hotels and airbnbs in my travels, and this stands out as one of the best experiences.
The space itself is newly renovated, comfortable, and well furnished for different needs. Everything is tastefully decorated and impeccably clean. I particularly loved peering out the big windows onto the canal while nestled in the cozy nooks. It's a picture perfect slice of Amsterdam.
Above all, Johannes is an incredible host. When a disruption happened that was outside his control, he went above and beyond to improve our experience. We deeply appreciated the thought and kindness that went into every aspect of this stay, and look forward to returning again in the future.
- West (10/5): Amazing Stay - definitely recommend. - Title: A Memorable Amsterdam Getaway at Canal View Stay
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I recently had the pleasure of staying at Canal View Stay during my Amsterdam escapade, and I must say, it was an absolute delight! From the moment I arrived until the day of my departure, I was thoroughly impressed with the experience and hospitality offered by this charming accommodation.
Cleanliness is always a top priority for me when choosing a place to stay, and I was pleased to find Canal View Stay to be one of the cleanest places I've ever encountered. The attention to detail in maintaining the property's pristine condition was evident throughout my entire stay.
The location of Canal View Stay couldn't have been better. Being situated right next to the bustling Vondelpark and with easy access to many bus lines, getting around the city was a breeze. The idyllic setting of waking up to a beautiful canal view every morning was a treat that made my Amsterdam experience even more enchanting.
However, what truly set this stay apart was the warmth and helpfulness of the hosts. From the moment I arrived, they made me feel right at home. They were incredibly accommodating, offering great tips on exploring the city, recommending must-visit places, and even helping me with any questions I had. It was like having my own local guides, and it made my short trip truly unforgettable.
The charm of Canal View Stay is unmatched. The tasteful decor and cozy ambiance created an inviting atmosphere that enveloped me in relaxation. After a day of exploring the city, returning to this welcoming haven felt like a breath of fresh air.
All in all, my experience at Canal View Stay was exceptional, and I can't wait to return for another stay in the future. If you're looking for a place that combines cleanliness, convenience, charm, and friendly hosts who make you feel at home, then look no further. I wholeheartedly recommend Canal View Stay for your next Amsterdam adventure. The sun is very bright in the mornings! Maybe more curtains...But that's just me being very nit-picky. It's hard to say what I didn't like because everything was amazing.
