The staff was always very friendly and responded to requests immediately. Staying in Cairo for the first time (as a single travelling woman) and arriving after midnight, I felt very safe and pleasant, thanks to the hotel: they booked me a driver who waited for me for over an hour (without complain) and took me safely to the hotel. Likewise, on departure, a driver was ordered to take me to the airport on request (even at short notice). The view from the terrace of my room, looking at a church and a mosque was very beautiful. The bed was large with a pleasantly firm mattress. Mirror and dressing table available. A small balcony and a big terrace with shutters and curtains so that you can darken the room during the day if necessary. A romantic lift/elevator with cast iron decorations in the stairwell. The location is very central, on Talaat Harb Square, just a few minutes' walk from the famous El Tahrir Square. If you want a more quiet stay, you can also choose a room overlooking a small side street. However, I enjoyed the liveliness of the street and the call of the muezzin in the morning. The people were always very friendly everywhere and especially in the hotel and also down in the entrance area. If you try to talk a few words, sentences, greetings in Arabian language, you get very positve response. It was my first stay in Cairo and I will definitely come back and stay at the Philo Hotel again.

- YOKO (10/5): - This was an absolutely wonderful hotel. What I love the most about this hotel was the hospitality of the staff, especially the owner, MR.Philip. Although I had to travel between the airport and the hotel alone,the owner, Philip himself, kindly picked up for me. Every time I returned to the hotel from sightseeing, Mr.Philip and his wife would ask, "Happy?" It made me very relived, as if I were at my home in Cairo.While it's true that the outside can be a bit noisy, wearing earplugs solves any issue, and above all, this hotel offers a great sense of being comfortable. The breakfast they made was very delicious, and I enjoyed my meals on the lovely balcony. The furniture was charming as well. - Caroline (10/5): Irish traveller - I was a bit apprehensive staying in this hotel because of the street noise.The hotel offered me one of their rooms with less street noise. With the earplugs and the fan the noise practically fades away.The showers are really good.The beds are comfortable. All the staff are really nice and they arranged a guide for my trip to the pyramids, and also a taxi to the airport.They provided me with a hairdryer. kettle and you can get coffee for 95EGP near there. There is a lovely Italian restaurant Padellaccio up the street from the hotel. I love the old building style and high doors.Overall, I was delighted with my choice to stay in a low cost hotel in the heart of it all.

- Martin (6/5): There are better hotels just outside Downtown for a cheaper rate - The room was spacious, and the location was good The tremendous street noise and the loud mueszzin from a nearby mosque made sleeping difficult. This was not helped by the bright light from the corridor coming through the window over the door. I booked by searching for a room for two people: to my surprise we ended up with a double room booked for one person and had to pay extra for the second person.
- Manuel (9/5): Superb - Good stay in the center of Cairo. An area where you can easy walk around outside. Not a typical hotel but you can sleep in an colonial-french building with high ceilings. The street is very loud untill 3 a.m. But i think it is like that all over Cairo. There is a mosque next to the hotel which can also be loud. But it felt like a typical egyptian experience.

If you struggle to sleep in noise then this place is not for you. Downtown Cairo is bustling and busy and you can hear everything from the street. The team were friendly and helpful.
- Nasrullah (2/5): - This is an old office building and has hotel on 4th floor, first it is difficult to find the hotel, second the entire building is very dirty filthy, dark no lighting, the elevator is very old style, takes time to learn, how to operate, inside room mosquito, cannot close bathroom door, cannot close the door to the balcony, no water no coffee maker, no dining option around. Best location to see downtown cairo. Will never go again.

It was bit difficult to find the hotel as its a floro in one of the buildings . but this is I guess true for lot of Egypt hotels. I had requested for a kettle which was provided seperately but was very basis. Would have like tea /coffee provision in the room. the Bathroom supplies as well were very basic and limited. Could have been better. the Rod to hand clothes was broken. No major issues but as a report.

- Koev (9/5): Good place that has value for money - The staff was very helpful. We got everything we asked for, the excursions we requested were delivered plus the transport. The guide was specifically very helpful. The breakfast was good - eggs with cheese, some sweets, bread, drink + coffee not a big one, but exactly what you need for a breakfast. The water in the room was clean to take a shower, which is important for Egypt to be fair, so we we didn't have any issues with the quality of water. The location is good in the center of the city and the transfer from the airport is good. The building is not very clean, there is rubbish in the elevator shaft, but this isn't something the hotel can do, as they share this building. Now, in the evening the noise from the street is big, as the hotel is based exactly on a street, but to be fair it ease up during the night so we didn't have issues with sleep, but this can be loud in the evening.

Philip booked us a wonderful tour of the pyramids with Hassan who was very knowledgeable and a wonderful companion. Philip's daughter was a saving grace when we accidentally booked the wrong taxi to the airport. She was able to book us a new one in seconds and we made our flight on time. Centrally located and very comfortable.

- Stephen (9/5): Excellent hospitality and good value in a traditional setting - The best thing about this hotel is the owner manager who is an exemplar of best practice. As a result, you can rely on a level of personal service and responsiveness rarely found. The high ratings given by other travellers tell a similar message. I notice that he is particularly good at acknowledging even minor issues and putting them to rights, when so many managers provide only a bland reply with no attempt to face and resolve matters of concern. This third floor hotel provides a reassuring and secure base in the heart of central Cairo. As the hotel has no sign at street level, encourage guests to look out for the number 17 on Kasr el Nile street.
- Sheila (8/5): We loved it and would stay again. - It was central in Cairo. The hotel was very clean. Philip and his staff made us welcome and helped us organise trips. Breakfast was freshly cooked for us. The hotel was good, though some of the furniture was a bit worn. However it was functional.

- Michael (8/5): Very good hotel near the Egyptian Museum - Very good hotel near Tahrir Square and the Egyptian Museum. Owner and staff were very friendly. Room had two balconies, Comfortable bed, strong AC (and a fan too). Bathroom recently remodeled. Arranged a day trip to Alexandria with great driver. My only criticisms were the water in the shower was only lukewarm and when traffic is busy you can hear some car horns. Great value for the price and location!

- Rebekah (10/5): Room so nice I booked it twice! - Incredible stay! Great location, very walkable (once you get the hang of plying frogger.) The owner and his family and employees went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable. ThIts unbeatable for the price! Just remember its got boutique vibes, you're not paying for a resort. I enjoyed my stay so much that i booked it again coming back into the city!
- Ki Ki (10/5): - The room is spacious and clean. The host is friendly. The hotel is located in the heart of Old Cairo which is very convenient for visitors (a 10-minute walk to the old Egyptian museum and Abou Tarek). Nothing more I could ask for with such a reasonable price.

He gave us good unbiased information regarding the metro and Uber cars amongst other things. Really friendly and welcoming; a really nice disposition. Not at all pushy. Mr Philip’s English was good and he always checked if we needed anything. His staff were also helpful and courteous. The room dimensions were magnificent 5m height ceiling - our room was 6m by 5m with two balconies. The architecture is 19th French and lovely. Mr Philip has chosen well with the furniture. Centrally placed so brilliant for getting around. It was definitely noisy with traffic hooting etc but this added to experience of being in Cairo for us. Nothing
- Ralf (8/5): Nettes Hotel in der Stadtmitte - ein einfaches Hotel im Zentrum der Stadt. Gut gelegen in der Nähe der Metro. Ein Aufzug bringt einen nach oben in den 3. Stock. Das Zimmer war sauber und groß mit schönen alten Möbeln plus Kühlschrank, was bei der Hitze sehr gut ist. Auch das Bad war sauber, allerdings merkte man, dass die Armaturen nicht mehr die neuesten sind. Alles in allem ein gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis

- Sakurasaku (10/5): Amazing stay in old Cairo downtown - Thank you for your hospitality. I think it's 3 star hotel facilities and 5 star hospitality. Especially in Cairo, Egypt, it's not easy to stay in such a hospitable hotel and at such a low price(compare other hotels in Egypt .). Hotels in this price range are prone to fraud and extortion in Egypt, especially in Cairo, so i recommend this hotel for its peace of mind and safety . The hotel owner was a very responsible person who had amazing experiences in hospitality business. There are 1-4 staff members at the reception at all times to take care of guests. Each room in the hotel has a great view, and I especially recommend booking a room with a balcony. There are KFC, donut shops, and Pizza Hut nearby, so i recommend ordering takeout snacks/drinks and enjoying afternoon tea in your room with a balcony. The hotel owner, his family, students in training, employees, and housekeepers were all kind-hearted people. Tipping is not required by them, but please show your appreciation by tipping as they do amazing care. In addition, the hotel had a kettle and hair dryer. It seems that AC will be fixed in the future, making your stay even more comfortable. There is only one housekeeper, so cleaning is not thorough/perfect. Especially toilets, bathrooms, corridor and balconies. It would be more efficient if the reception staffs( other than the housekeeper, but they have time in reception)were also available to clean the room day by day/time to time.
- Andrew (10/5): - The owner made sure that his guests felt welcome and comfortable. Was helpful in arranging tours and transportation. The outside of the building is average, but the room was very clean. It was an excellent deal for the money spent.
- Torsten (8/5): Centrally located, friendly, basic - Centrally located at Talaat Harb Square. Many traffic, but the noise level acceptable. Very friendly owner and staff. Connected by elevator at 3rd floor. Spacious rooms and nice balcony. Basic facilities but bed is okay. Build in bathroom, big enough, a little bit smelling because of limited ventilation. Center really busy at daylight but not very welcoming at night. Some homeless people in the street and also some harassment can occur (potentially psychiatric sick people molesting women).

I really don't wanted leave there oh I shouldn't forget to write this my room has 2balcony and enjoyed nice city view you can shot nice photo by any places in the room good atmosphere lovely colored room has not elevator each places I stayed philo has nice vintage style elevator I love it! you shouldn't be hesitate book this hotel many thanks for all staffs especially mr Philip I really appreciate you I wish I could be stay more than days nothing
- Maida (10/5): - Great stay at Philo - very reasonable cost, extremely helpful staff (Mr. Filip, the owner, made sure to accommodate additional requests and arranged for tours in Cairo and Alexandria). Excellent and convenient location, 10 min walk from Tahrir Square and Egyptian Museum.
- Lesley (7/5): Nice Management - This is a very well run place. lovely friendly and helpful people who speak great English. there is always someone on the desk and so it’s very secure. 3rd floor of a traditional building which has some charm and rooms with balcony’s. Central location, you can walk to Museum etc. Simple, Clean, basic accommodation. The fixtures and fittings are a bit old. It really could do with some new beds and a few modern touches, some colour.

- David (8/5): Highly Recommended Budget Hotel in Central Cairo - Philo Hotel is a small family-owned budget hotel situated on the third floor in a depilated but beautiful architecture apartment block in central downtown Cairo, close to Tahrir square. The staff is super friendly and helpful. My room was clean and spacious, equipped with a hard but still comfortable double bed, tv (Arabic channels only), private shower, balcony, and two large windows facing the street. But since the hotel is situated in an old apartment and the furniture may have seen its best days, don’t expect everything to be up to date. You will have free, basic wifi, but the connection is at times a bit slow. The area around the hotel is full of shops and eateries, and even though usually very crowded with people, I never experienced any trouble. And for safe rides around the city, the hotel gladly helps ordering affordable uber-style, hassle-free taxis with pre-arranged rates, arriving at the hotel entrance just a few minutes after order. So I can warmly recommend Philo Hotel as a very good budget place to stay a few days while in Cairo.
