Guest Reviews
- Garrett (10/5): - I wish we would have planned more time here vs at the coast. Cohune Palms was the highlight of our Belize trip. This place was paradise!! We were reluctant at first due to no a/c but the weather cooled off at night and was perfect. Fans during the day kept everything enjoyable. The river next to the resort was beautiful and a blast to swim in and enjoy the rope swing. We have 50x the mosquitos here in California…with a little bug spray you barely even notice them there. Mike, the owner of the property, has built a truly perfect paradise over the past 25 years and you won’t find a nicer host. He knows everything about the area. He and his crew will cook for you every meal if you want so you really don’t need to leave the property but the area is safe and the people are so friendly we walked or took or rental car all over without any issues. I can’t recommend this place enough. We had the whole place to ourselves and I can’t believe it’s not on every major travel site. Truly a hidden gem that I hate to review and spoil the secret but Mike deserves all the success in the world so I’m doing it :)
- Joshua (10/5): - Such a beautiful property! We saw howler monkeys, spider monkeys (I think, it was not a howler that’s all I know lol) fire beetles glowing in the palm trees, agouti’s, roadrunners, Toucans, all on the property. My kids had so much fun playing in the river and the rope swing. They would have been content not seeing anything else in San Ignacio and just staying there all day. The breakfast and dinners were very good and convenient. It felt like we had a private resort all to ourselves. Mike who lives on sight is a wonderful person also and was great having him around to hear some of his stories and knowledge of the area. Everyone that worked there were absolutely great. If I come back to this area I would absolutely be staying here again.
- Nicolaas (10/5): - Great location right by the river, which was very refreshing. Very nice cabanas in a beautiful jungle setting.
- Emma (10/5): - We absolutely LOVED our stay here! It was so calm and peaceful. The staff are wonderful and will go out of their way to help you with anything you need. It's definitely more at the 'rustic' end of the scale but we really enjoyed that aspect. The river is wonderful to jump in and cool off and Mario helped us with a river tubing trip that ended right at the hotel's desk. Camille who cooked the food was so wonderful and kind and we really loved the delicious local dishes she made for us.
While staying there we saw agoutis, howler monkeys, hummingbirds, a toucan and a jaguarundi right on the property.
- Hovhannes (10/5): We enjoyed our stay - My wife and I had a great time during our stay. Mario was great for arranging our tours and also just fun to talk to when we would come back at the end of the day. The breakfasts were delicious.
- Louis (10/5): - How we were so fortunate to find this property was amazing. Tranquil, quiet, rustic setting on the banks of the river, Cohune Palms is exquisitely beautiful and the staff amazing. The traditional thatched hut cabanas are authentic, airy and pleasant. Outdoor ammenities feature decks directly on the river and are lovely situated among the palms. Excellent dining. No TV’s, good wi-if & no bugs, we would definitely go back. Small & charming. Thanks to Mike, Kevin’s & the rest of the crew makes Cohune Palms a top choice!
- Leonard (6/5): - It's really hard for me to leave a review less than 5 stars because Mike, Benny, and Mario were all so incredible and are what made our stay.. along with Nelly's cooking (better than most food we had in San Ignacio!). Unfortunately, we were disappointed with the cabanas. I will also preface by saying if you are used to more of a luxury accommodation (which we are), going else where. If you're the no frills type and enjoy camping (or glamping?) and genuinely kind people, look no further!
It's challenging to tell if the cabanas are outdated or dirty. Regardless, I was uncomfortable not wearing shoes in the cabana and in the shower. The first cabana we were brought to ended up having issues with the roof leaking from the rain storm so were moved to another. The leaking apparently was fixed a day later.
The second cabana had issues with bees. My partner spent a couple of hours trapping the bees but more would continue to come into the cabana throughout the night. We didn't even call this out to anyone because it was our final night and we just wanted to checkout and continue with our vacation. With both cabanas, bugs were inevitable.
Lastly, there was a cold snap and rain during our time. We were really cold staying in the cabanas because the windows don't close and there are minimal sheets/blankets. We did ask for another blanket but it didn't help much - also on us for not packing enough warm clothes!
