• Jordan (4/5): - Turtle Island Resort promises stunning views and decent food, but my recent stay was overshadowed by persistent operational failures and disappointing customer service. Despite the picturesque setting, including breathtaking sunsets and well-prepared dishes like the fish sandwich and coconut shrimp, the experience was marred by numerous issues. The most egregious were the frequent disruptions to water supply, with faucets and showers routinely shutting off for extended periods, often mid-use. Additionally, the restaurant's chronic food shortages led to a complete lack of options for a full 24-hour period and painfully slow service, with orders taking over an hour to arrive. Moreover, the resort suffered from frequent power outages, resulting in disruptions to essential amenities such as lighting, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi. The inconsistent water temperature and occasional saltwater intrusion in the showers only added to the frustration. Minor inconveniences, such as room mix-ups, unreliable taxis, uncomfortable lounge chairs, and inadequate Wi-Fi, further detracted from the experience. To make matters worse, despite repeated attempts to engage with management regarding a partial refund to address these issues, they’ve ignored my inquiries for over a month. Their lack of responsiveness and failure to acknowledge these problems demonstrate a disregard for customer satisfaction and a lack of accountability. Proceed with caution…
• Cecilia (8/5): - The resort was beautiful. We did though have issues with being assigned the incorrect room & waking up twice to no running water.
• V8493JYlesleyw (2/5): Not as advertised - To be honest the best thing about this hotel is the staff! It is isolated with the only way in to town being a scheduled boat ride. The food at the restaurant while good is unbelievably expensive and they did not have alot of supplies. For most of our two weeks there was hardly any other guests. The property had alot of maintenance issues and were closing down for renovations. Alot of the staff was being laid off while we were there and on the last night we stayed it was only the 2 of us and I think 2 security guards, so it did not feel safe at all! Also there was no cook and no ability to get any food at all unless we went in to town. On one boat ride back to he resort the boat had mechanical issues and an 8 minute ride took half an hour. When we brought our concerns to the manager she did not seem concerned and only wanted to stress how much money it was going to cost the resort to complete the renovations. In fact the only time that she admitted to being the manager was when we decided to leave early... even though we had numerous interactions with her and asked her what her role was at this hotel. Due to the safety concerns we decided to leave early I have tried to reach out to our concierge but have received no response. This resort although expensive is not as advertised and I feel that we received 2 star services for 5 star prices! I would not go back and would not recommend this hotel to anyone .
• Christine (6/5): - This property has so much potential. Beautiful setting, lovely villas and staff that tries very hard to please guests despite many property and property management issues. We stayed in villa 4 and upon our arrival the pool was not filled but they noted they would fill, however did not share due to the pool treatment used we could not use until the next day. We had issues with setting the safe and the management noted someone would come to reset however no one showed we had to remind them to send someone day 2. Day 1 we had the power go out several times while cooking (was not out for long periods but needed to restart the cooking several times) Morning of day 2 the guest bedroom flooded due to some toilet issue which the staff promptly cleaned up and then went to get a new part (assuming this required a trip to San Pedro) before the toilet was operational again. Day 3 we were without water for several hours in the morning. Overall the water was rather salty - not a complaint as we understood we were staying on an island but in talking to other guests who had stayed there in the past they noted this was unusual. Again this property has so much potential but it does not appear the management knows how to maintain a property like this. For example tiles missing from the pool, seemed a very easy upkeep and repair issue, cushions on the outdoor seating did not match one appeared to be a replacement cushion similar in color but a smaller size, dishwasher not working..

• Joseph (2/5): - Terribly mismanaged property. First of all, the very first night we got there electricity kept going out and continued to go out through our stay. We couldn’t enjoy the restaurant or the bar in the complete darkness aside from one lamp and a few dim electric candles. Secondly, they had no rice and beans or tequila, which is amazing for a Caribbean resort. and We then proceeded to get our room and we were placed right next to a trash dump with an old, disgusting looking boat blocking our view. Our master bedroom had no privacy as the sliding door doesn’t go all the way up to the ceiling and the mattresses were extremely uncomfortable and loud. Worst of all, the pool was murky and had dirt and debris in it. They just stuck a hose in there and then poured so many chemicals. All we could smell was chlorine, our eyes were burning. Furthermore, the tap-water and all the faucets in the shower was just saltwater from the lagoon. When we complained about it and asked to be moved, they said they cant move us even though there’s only three other people staying at the resort at the time with 8 empty units. After much arguing they offered to move us to a Lagoon unit, which is much smaller, but at least gave us some privacy and a view of the bay. However, when we came back from a day trip, they told us that the pools at our unit weren’t cleaned and we shouldn’t be using them which they told us of right before we got in. Another Shock! The AC in one of the bedrooms wasn’t working, and the
• Alexandre (6/5): - The property has a potential to be a great resort. Quiet, beautiful areas, the rooms are very nice. The only problem is the restaurant not being prepared to serve well. We couldn’t get a breakfast one day and lunch and dinner was very limited. We had to buy our water to drink.
• Earl (10/5): - I had an absolutely amazing time there. At night when I was ready to be away from the noise of the city, I could retreat to turtle island and be at peace. The staff was amazing. The boat captain made many trips so although there’s scheduled times for transportation, I ended up getting a ride from the island at very convenient times. It’s only a 5-6 min ride each way from San Pedro to turtle island (I timed it). You can get the golf cart through a partnered company and they will even pick you up. It was worth it for sure and the kid loved the private pool.
• JAMALD (10/5): - This resort is so unique as its on a seperate island. If you like that island feel and boat to and from san pedro. You will love it here. The staff was great and communicative. Even when some hot water problem occurred. Glad it was hot ! The view is great ! The food was EXCELLENT ! The drinks were great !! The room was comfortable and clean. You are not disturbed and can relax.
• Latia (8/5): - The resort is on a private island, it's beautiful, the staff was friendly, the food was good. The chef I forgot her name, made me an authentic Belize breakfast (fry jack) which was delicious!! I stayed in the beach house with the private pool, it was absolutely wonderful! A boat is needed on and off the island, they only have 1 (boat) at this time and a set schedule that is flexible, I didn't experience any issues with that. I was even able to make it to my 5am excursion in Belize City, thanks to the wonder team.
• Cfarley1 (10/5): Beautiful! - We came here for an afternoon while staying at a nearby resort. WOW! The views are breathtaking! We didn't explore the resort to much further than the restaurant, pool and lagoon areas - but what we did we did see was gorgeous. The food was excellent, we each had something different and all enjoyed our meal very much. The staff was friendly and attentive. While I cannot speak to staying at the resort, we had an excellent experience during our day trip!
• beaus481 (8/5): Special spot. - We traveled here to celebrate by husband’s birthday and the staff truly wanted to make it special. The room was clean, quiet, comfortable. The staff will bring anything you need to your villa and are incredibly kind and accommodating. The sunrises, sunsets, and the moon views are unmatched. You can lie in bed and see the amazing views. This is a quiet, off the main path, reflective spot. A very special place. I cried a little when I left.
• Compass55822988639 (10/5): Introverts' paradise. - If you want peace and quiet, this is the place. Beautiful villa. Excellent food and drinks. The service was amazing. All of the staff were friendly and accommodating. We really only saw fellow travelers on the resort boat going to and from San Pedro (by choice). The shuttle boat to and from the resort to San Pedro was over booked at peak times, sometimes having to make two or three trips to provide service to all of the guests which meant having to wait at the dock. The Captains handled this with much grace and professionalism. Perhaps a second boat chartered for these peak times would have eased my frustration and placed less fatigue on the Captain, especially when the weather was not pleasant at the water was rough. Julie, Joe, Ernesto, Matao, and all of the other friendly smiles that make this place run; thank you, you are amazing!
• Tracy Raye (10/5): - Introverts Paradise! If you want to be in the bustle of things, don't stay here. If you want privacy, quiet, and personal service by name; this place is beautiful. Exceptional service, excellent food and drinks. Clean and quiet. The shuttle boat to/from San Pedro was consistently overbooked after dinner hour causing me delay and frustration. It is the only area of needed improvement that I experienced. Thank you!

• sheinat2024 (2/5): HONEST REVIEW!!! - HONEST REVIEW!!! please read this before you stay here! I will start off by saying that the thing that saved this review is the hospitality that Joe, Darrell, Jervis, and Hellenica showed us. ⁃ the instructions were unclear from the beginning ⁃ turtle island resort is on a private island off of San Pedro. You must take the provided water taxi in order to get in and out to do any activity that isn’t just your room, pool, or kayak. the boat picks u up at the pier in San Pedro. There is nothing but a small sign on the edge of the dock that says that is where the boat will pick u up. The resort labels it as “storm dock” but the locals don’t know it as that. The best way not to get lost is to look for “level up barcade”. ⁃ the water taxi schedule is very spaced out at certain times of the the day. the boat does not run every hour. we were told conflicting things: one if u want to schedule a time outside of the provide schedule that it would be 70 usd, two you can text the front desk WhatsApp number and they can accommodate without extra cost, and three the boat schedule is just a guide and unless u text there will be no water taxi available. ⁃ the welcome text states that there is free room service. Not true. At the end of your stay u will be charge a “service charge” for everything they do. For our 6 night stay this came up to $118 usd. This was not explained at the beginning of the stay ⁃ Julie, who was our main point of contact, was very inconsistent, rude, and condescending. I honestly don’t understand how she works in the hospitality business ⁃ the room is bare with the “essentials” but u will need to ask for hair dryer, iron, etc. ⁃ the kitchen had dishes, utensils, pots, and mugs. No cups, on dishwashing soap. Water cooler was broken on our fridge but they were nice enough to bring us a new portable one. ⁃ The shower water temp is like warm at best and there is little to no shower pressure ⁃ Throughout the night there’s one security guard that walks around with a huge flash light. Shines it into your room at 3AM, woke us up from a deep sleep. ⁃ The pool towels were often not replaced ⁃ The pool shower did not work ⁃ Several broken planks on the wall way, be very careful ⁃ WiFi, turns off at a certain time at night without warning and is shotty in the morning ⁃ The food from the restaurant is pretty good and the chef will make special orders for you which is nice ⁃ there are kayaks and life vest and a nice view to kayak around the property
• Simplemandoc (10/5): A FIVE STAR EXPERIENCE _ GREAT MEMORIES - First, let me apologize for the length of this review. In preparation for my own trip I read many other reviews and became a little confused by the different perspectives and experiences. I even considered cancelling my reservation after reading a couple of the negative ones. Although I don’t write reviews often, I felt compelled to provide my own perspectives. Short version: I am VERY happy I didn’t cancel my reservation and I would certainly stay here again. Turtle Island is beautiful! Now for the longer version (if interested)… Our stay was from February 7-13, 2024. We are two medical professionals who travel extensively and both of whom have lived overseas. As with any medical publication we’ll start with a “conflict of interest” statement – we are getting nothing for providing this review, we have no “agenda”. LOCATION: Turtle Island is just that – an island. It’s about 6 minutes away from San Pedro by boat. You exit San Pedro at “Storm Dock” (aka “Level Up Dock”). If you check a map of San Pedro, the dock is just off Tarpon Street on the west side of San Pedro. From my perspective this puts you near the center of what I consider the “tourist zone”, (which is about 3-4 streets wide and 1.5 miles long). You are essentially no more than a mile away from anything. Most places are a 5-10 minute walk from the dock. Why is this important? When making my choice of where I wanted to stay, I did consider hotels that were not on an island. I considered places on a beach, but all beaches are public which means less security and less privacy. I considered choosing a “private compound” where I would have rented a golf cart and dealt with that additional expense, parking, and worry about DUI (if I had too much fun) as well as damage/insurance. I could have stayed right in town and dealt with the noise. OR I could choose an island which provided increased security, less headaches than renting a golf cart, peace and quiet, a private plunge pool, etc. I was VERY happy with my choice. BTW: I was even happier after witnessing the headaches the golf cart people experienced with one-way roads, one lane roads used for two-way traffic, long lines of carts backed up, lack of parking, etc. FERRY/SHUTTLE: I remember reading a negative review regarding the ferry including safety concerns. OMG, I have such a different perspective! I LOVED the ferry and the captain(s). The resort offers a complimentary ferry that runs throughout the day from 0615 to 10:30pm. At busier times (mornings) it’s hourly, the longest period without is one is a single 3-hour block from 2-5 pm, and the evenings runs are every 2-hours. The boat is pristine and VERY safe. The ride is beautiful and over very calm waters (you’re over a reef and the break is miles away). We timed many of our trips to include sunset – which is just beautiful from the ferry/shuttle. I felt I should be paying them just for the beautiful ride. They always look after your safety. During daylight hours you use the “Welcome Dock” on the east side of the resort but if it’s dark you use the “Adventure Dock” next to the restaurant/pool since it has better lighting. One reviewer mentioned late running shuttles. Occasionally we did notice the same and were unfortunately the cause of this once. The delay was never “bad”, maybe 5-10 minutes – think “island time”. In general, you use WhatsApp to let them know you’re taking a ferry at time “x” (not required but a courtesy). I did mess up once and told them we’d take the 5:15 shuttle into San Pedro but then changed our plans and decided to watch sunset from the restaurant/bar without notifying them. They held the shuttle for 5 minutes then called and texted to check our plans. So, I guess the occasional 5-10 minute delay issues depends on your perspective. I do feel horrible for the people we inconvenienced, (and they may have viewed it as poor service from the shuttle) – but from our perspective they went out of their way to provide excellent service. It was our mistake not their's. I did book two private trips and we also did the “Secret Island” charter. The private charters cost a fraction of what a cart rental would have been for a day (or a cab ride in the US). These included a trip to Amigos del Mar for a Blue Hole dive. We had to be there before the 0615 shuttle. The captain took us straight to their dock. The other was to the airport (since we had a very early departure) and we received excellent service then as well. I never had any concerns regarding getting someplace on-time. The same boat offers transportation (for a fee) to “Secret Beach” and back. Worth every penny! We enjoyed a beautiful ride along the coast while those enduring the golf cart experience (for those staying in San Pedro hotels) had a hour-plus ride on bumpy/dusty roads to get there. Again… we were very happy with our choice. 5 Stars THE RESORT: Better than the pictures! This place is absolutely beautiful! “Suites”: There are 8 “suites” that are well designed. Each building is long and thin. They have king sized beds on each end with a kitchen in the middle. Your bedroom has a safe which you program upon arrival. Four of the buildings have plunge pools (recommended). Their set-up gives many options including: bedroom only, bedroom/kitchen, bedroom plunge pool, bedroom/kitchen/plunge pool (recommended), two-bedroom/kitchen and two-bedroom/kitchen with two plunge pools. For the bedrooms you can decide upon “sunrise” side which overlooks the water/lights of San Pedro (recommended) or ‘sunset” side that overlooks “Lucy’s Lagoon”. We had excellent privacy and it was very quiet. “Villas”: Sorry I don’t know about these. The community areas (restaurant, bar, infinity pool, lagoon, welcome center, dock, etc.) are beautiful. The restaurant/bar offers incredible sunset views. RESTAURANT/BAR: We ate at someplace different every night because we love to explore, but I imagine you could be happy eating every meal here. We certainly enjoyed our dinner here. 4-5 Stars SPA: While I went for some scuba diving my better half enjoyed the spa. She described it as very professional. CONCIERGE/TOURS: Just let them know what you’d like to do and they’ll take care of everything and bill it to the room. I had some experiences that I booked myself and some I booked through the resort. The main advantages of booking with the resort is dedicated transportation to your activity. The resort keeps a golf cart at Storm Dock and they will not only ferry you over but will give you a ride to wherever you need to go (even if only 2 blocks). They also offered pick-up service after the tour although we never took advantage of that. After our adventure we just did some shopping then rode the normal ferry/shuttle back. 5 Stars STAFF: Just outstanding! I wish I could remember everybody’s name (like they could ours). Kaira, Ernesto, Janice (cook) were all great. I’ll provide a special shout out to Julie. Everybody did everything possible to make sure our stay was excellent. Since the staff also use the ferry to go back and forth you do have the opportunity to get to know them. 5 Stars SOME OF OUR FAVORITE PLACES: Blue Water Grill is almost directly across from Storm Dock (on the east side of San Pedro) and was excellent. We also enjoyed the Patio which is 2 blocks away walking towards the east side. Both had live music when we went. Don’t miss Neri’s Tacos which is essentially ½ block away from Storm Dock (great food/incredible prices). All three places are 5-8 minute walks from the dock. BOTTOM LINE: I/we HIGHLY recommend this resort. It’s probably best for couples looking for peace, quiet, and the increased security of an island. It’s best for people who’d rather walk 5-15 minutes to a restaurant/shop rather than drive/park a golf cart. The resort is absolutely beautiful. The ferry/shuttle is a huge plus (far better than the golf cart option)and the staff is excellent.

Bullet points: BEAUTIFUL property! Incredible staff! Great food. The shuttle is VERY, VERY safe. 5 star bed/bedding. Powerful/quiet AC. Kitchen is okay but could be a little better stocked. Plunge pools are worth it. Concierge services are excellent. SPA was excellent. CLEAN/PRISTINE. No power outages during our one week stay Feb 2024. I wrote a LONG review but Hotels.com allows only 1500 characters. I'll send my review to the property and you can ask them for "Brian's review". Bottom Line: You have an option of booking resorts in town (loud), beach resorts (beaches are public and these hotels have less privacy) or a locked compound where you have to deal with the expense of a golf cart (not to mention horrible traffic, parking, worry about DUI, collisions, etc). Or you can choose Turtle Island which is private, safe, incredibly beautiful, quiet and the complimentary shuttle gives you easy transportation into central San Pedro where everything is within a 15 minute walk. A place where the staff treat you like family. I would stay here again without hesitation. I honestly don't understand the negative reviews. There is no place in the San Pedro area that I'd recommend higher. The shuttle/ferry is pristine and the rides back and forth to San Pedro are not an inconvenience but beautiful, especially at sunset. Pictures do not do this property justice.

• Kathryn (8/5): Quiet Relaxing Getaway! Highly Recommend! - Had a great time! Very relaxing. San Pedro is busy so it’s nice to escape to Turtle Island resort! Important to note as it is an island you do have to take a ferry to get there. That said there is a boat that runs regularly to San Pedro and they can arrange transport for activities and Secret Beach. Restaurant on site with somewhat limited choices, although delicious every time! chef does take requests. Was a little worried before staying after seeing a few poor reviews. However, the staff is amazing and does go above and beyond. It seems like people were expecting more of an inclusive/resort with many on site resources. As previously said the resort is basically on an island so definitely perfect for couples and quiet getaways, as not a lot on the premises, heard this is changing with new management and renovations. Had a great time with my fiancé, would recommend! Thank you to the staff and of course the resident Turtle Island pup Huck!

• Jeff (4/5): - We booked a room through Expedia. 2 days before the trip we were informed that there was a discrepancy between Expedia and the resort about what room we were to be in. The room we booked had a kitchen, and they said without proof from the Expedia we would not get the kitchen we had paid for. We found the document and we ended up with a Kitchen. We had friends traveling with US, they were also to have a kitchen. We ended up sharing a kitchen, which was fine however we did not receive the entire value of what we had booked. Other couples we me there had the same booking issues through Travelocity and did not get what they paid for. Our friends were put in a different room for the first night and then moved on day 2. When we came back to the room to move their room has a toilet leaking and ants climbing over their luggage from an infestation in their building. As for dining, the menu did not have accurate pricing and was not up to date. and would often take 30-45 minutes to sort through the bill each meal. The grounds were unkempt unraked sand and weeds and mud all over. Peeling and faded paint, and a leaking window in our unit. The people were very kind, but had no power with an absentee management staff and had no power to correct things. We were offered a small discount but this did not make up for true disruption. The resort was without power for the first evening as we arrived, and were told it was for a generator upgrade, we heard that was not accurate.
• Remaile (2/5): - DO NOT BOOK. Ok so I will start with the friendly staff. I feel terrible that they had to work here. The resort is not at all what it’s made out to be. The dining was limited everyday with less than half the menu. Sometimes there wasn’t even a chef so we would have to wait for them to find one. My bedroom door wouldn’t lock so I felt unsafe the entirety of my stay and the staff did nothing about it. We got a kitchen suite and there were no kitchen utensils for us to use the kitchen. Not one pot or pan or even a microwave. Tried to get more towels but there were none. The shuttle boat to San Pedro was never on time. Leaving me and my partner stranded very often which took time from the trip. There is so much to stay. I do not recommend anyone coming here.

The Villa was lovely & comfortable. The master bedroom closet was huge & the bathroom was also quite large with a great shower. The food at the restaurant, while limited, was delicious & esthetically pleasing with nice plating. The banana pancakes were outstanding. While visiting, I utilized the Spa services, which were lovely. While this property does not offer the type of resort services that most people expect, it was still a very nice vacation . I definitely recommend visiting Caye Caulker & taking the cave kyak tour!

• 871noellem (2/5): Do not recommend - Do NOT book here and if you have a reservation already, cancel it! We left after 1 night because the resort was not at all what was described on the website. The manager had claimed that they could not issue a refund because they never received the funds through hotels.com. When I contacted hotels.com, they said that the hotel had to approve the refund - radio silence from Turtle Island since then and no full refund. Spent over $1500 and they only approved a refund for the commuter flights that they had charged us for but I had to pay for at the airport. There are major concerns (including safety concerns).The only way to get to Turtle Island is through a boat ride and they only have 1 boat and 1 captain who works 7 days per week. The boat is giving guests rides at night time and it only has 1 working light. The captain said that he had informed management of this, but it went “in one ear and out the other.” That is absolutely unacceptable and a major risk to staff and guests. Additionally, there is limited staff, limited food, no chef on site, stained sheets, hot water ran out, and they charged us for a local flight that was not used to purchase tickets. The staff is great but they are overworked by the new management. Seems like this place was well run before new management took over 2 months ago, and it’s clear that the new management have no experience in hospitality. We were not informed of the management change until we arrived and looked at recent reviews. Save yourself the headache
• christinadS801KX (2/5): Would not recommend until seriouues addressed - We we here in busy season for 8 nights. It was a vacation we had planned many months prior and used the amazing reviews a a guide. We quickly learned thaat either the reviews were a farce or several months under new management or lack thereof meant limited food choices, (many items not available and what you did get was not great); rooms and a property that were in significant disrepair (think ripped out showers in an expensive Villa, planters that were broken and peeling, a plunge pool that has plumbing that does not work), inconsistent electricity, landscaping poor including bug management, and limited hot water. We looked for other lodging options but would have had to jump around and given we had off island activities most days and great bartenders (Shelby, Ernesto, Armin) sunsets, and Huckleberry the dog, we decided to power through. To a person that we spoke with, all had similar experiences. Some made the most of it and others left. To the resort's credit mid week they brought in a new chef (after we had a major confrontation the day before around food) and while the menu was limited it was.much better food, and many tried to accommodate requests for clean towels, curtains in master bedrooom. and coffee. We did not have housekeeping as it appeared they did not have keys and the safe did not work and while we could have had them clean our rooms once we returned, we just wanted to chill without people bustling about. Significant money needs to be spent to bring this place up to what the images and marketing claims it is. They said we would get s free stay in future. Not in writing....This was anything but a relaxing vacation.

I live in San Pedro full time and have visited Turtle Island Resort a few times and it has always been a hotly debated topic when time comes to pay the food and drink bill. My son was visiting and my wife thought he would like to see the 2 sea turtles living in the lagoon there so we took a boat ride over to visit. When we arrived I asked the bartender what the price of a beer was that day and he told me $5 US. I identified myself as a local and he said the price was the same. I ordered 2 beers and a virgin strawberry daiquiri for my son which I was told was $6 US. I figured I could handle this for one drink. This should have made my total $16 US or $32 BZ dollars. When I went to pay my bill, the bartender presented me with a bill for $27 US dollars with the beers listed a $8 US each. When I ask about the price difference, I was told that this included government taxes. Taxes in BZ are 12.5% on all goods and services so this would have been about $.60 cents and should have been included in the $5 price. This made the beers alone cost $32 BZ. For reference, you can get a bucket of 6 beers pretty much anywhere on the island for $30-$35 BZ. I will never go back and have advised everyone I know on Facebook to avoid them as well. If they are going to treat locals like this, I can only imagine what they do to tourists. “BUYER BEWARE!”
• teresasR2035BW (2/5): Not what is advertised - please be informed before you book - This resort is not what is advertised, at all. It looks like it once was a luxury resort but everything that made it luxurious was stripped off the island at some point. The pictures they post on Instagram and travel websites are not accurate and clearly taken when the resort was in it's prime. I wish someone would have warned us, which is why I'm leaving this review. It's a long review, but it's important for potential guests to know what is really happening onsite. We booked our trip earlier this year as part of a package within Muy'Ono Resorts (a family of luxury resorts in Belize). At some point this year, Turtle Island was no longer affiliated with Muy'Ono Resorts and new management took over the resort. Nobody informed us of this. It is clear why they are no longer affiliated with Muy'Ono Resorts as the property, suites and facilities are in very poor condition - and definitely not the caliber of luxury resorts that Muy'Ono Resorts is known for. They had no record of our reservation when we arrived - putting us in the wrong room even though I had called and confirmed our suite a week before our arrival. They also said we had a balance when we arrived, which is strange given they didn't have our reservation? They also told us prior to our trip that they booked our flights from Belize City to San Pedro and when we arrived in Belize City the airline had no record of our reservation so we had to re-purchase our tickets (we still have not received reimbursement for this from Turtle Island Resort). Nobody was waiting for us at the San Pedro airport, as indicated, and when the driver did arrive he was not friendly, dropped us off at dock and took off - no instructions or details on who to ask for/look for at the dock. The boat taxi driver was not friendly and the boat was in very poor condition. When we arrived on the island, we were greeted by an employee wearing a t-shirt with "Playboy" in large letters on his shirt - only 1 employee on site was actually wearing a Turtle Island Resort-branded uniform. We couldn't tell who was a guest vs. who worked there - and everything seemed very chaotic and low bar. On our way to the suite, we were told they only had one turtle, who was "sick" so we probably wouldn't see much of it or be able to feed it. We were also discouraged from using the gym and said if we did want to use it, we would need to give them plenty of notice to get it unlocked. The property was not maintained, there was very little vegetation and the suites did not look like the pictures on their website or social media - no artwork, decorations, flowers or anything in the room - very bare - a bed and a shelf for your clothes. The paint was peeling and coming off the walls. The curtains were wrinkled, stained, and wouldn't open b/c the curtain rod was damp, old wood. The suite reeked of cheap, high-chemical cleaning solution (think urinal cake smell) - it was overwhelmingly gross. We walked to the restaurant and pool area and they were stripped of any decor - again, very bare and rundown, smelling of urinal cakes. This was a special anniversary for us and everything from the start was inaccurate of what they advertise. When we went to the front office staff to complain, an employee said they were under new management and had received similar feedback from guests as of late. She also went into detail about how the new management is going to sue the old management, etc. As a guest, we don't need to know these details. We quickly booked at a different resort and left the island. There was no way we could stay there for five nights, especially after having such an incredible time at a Muy'Ono Resort for the first part of our trip. If you want luxury, do not book at Turtle Island Resort. The whole experience was incredibly disappointing. We were shocked by the contrast as to what's advertised online and what it actually is in person. Perhaps the new management will heavily invest in the resort and it may return to it's original state. But I would not recommend anyone book with them at this time. Absolutely not what they boast online.

The staff is amazing Ahmed, Shelby and the rest of the bar wait staff and shout out to the lovely guy driving the boat to and from the island. Everyone is really nice and accommodating.

Our room was spacious and comfy, and the employees are wonderful. We did a day trip out to Secret Beach where I had the best lobster ceviche snd mojitos of my life! Also did a snorkel trip to Hol Chan which was amazing! 10/10 recommend! Can’t wait to come back again and see all the new updates they’ve made to the place!
• Southerngold29 (8/5): Peace and Quite - Visited Belize from July 12 through July 19th. Turtle Island was our second stop. Captain Joe met us at the water taxi dock and grab our bags ( BTW he is awesome). Pulling up to Turtle Island is beautiful. We were met by Britney and Martha who are friendly and welcoming. We also received a welcome drink. They gave us a tour of the property before taking us to our room. To our surprise it was decorated because it was our anniversary ( such a lovely surprise). Once settled in we went to dinner. The food and drinks are excellent ( The chef and bartenders are top notch). A must try is the mango daiquiri and coconut mojito. Metting Lucy and Tipsy the sea turtles and Hercules the island dog was special. All the staff was great. Having a suite with the private pool was great. Although there was no beach to swim in, it was nice to sit and watch the boats. Now for the cons:We seen Housekeeping but she didn't have a key to our room so we opened it for her to clean. I could see how this could become an issue for guest who are visiting San Pedro for the day and Housekeeping couldn't get in the room to clean. The a/c remote wasn't working properly but maintenance took care of it right away, problem solved. Hot water was a reoccurring issue but it was tolertable.On the morning we was leaving there was little to no water coming out the shower or facets. Recommendations: Rooms could have more amenities like coffee maker, hot/cold filtered water dispenser to fill your own bottles, and maybe Hammocks by the private pools, and nice decor. Also curtains up in the spa, it's awkward to be getting a massage and anyone walking by can see. New paddles for the kayaks as well. Overall, its a beautiful place and can't wait to see how it transforms in the upcoming years. This could easily become a 5 star resort once the work is done. We will return.
• Maddi_1234567 (4/5): Do not stay at Turtle Island - This was a VERY disappointing stay. Cons: 1. Resort does not look like it is portrayed on their website. There isn’t a beach or other nice amenities. 2. There is no house keeping which is fine but to have to constantly call/text staff to remove trash and replace towels was unexpected. 3. It becomes cumbersome to have to take a boat from Sam Pedro to Turtle Island every time you want to do anything other than sleep. 4. There was barely any staff and those there weren’t very friendly. The new management was there briefly during our stay but once they left, it was even less enjoyable. 5. One night our room was invaded by ants. Not 5 or 10 ants, like 50+ huge ants (some even flew ugh). When the front staff came, they said that it’s normal (eye roll). 6. There was no path lighting along walkways so safety was a concern. 7. The shuttle boat schedule was inconvenient. And if you didn’t tell them ahead of time you wanted to be picked up, they wouldn’t come even though the time was on the schedule. Pros: 1. It was very quiet. Almost eerily so. 2. They use WhatsApp to communicate so you don’t have to run to the office all the time. 3. New management seemed nice. I wish they were there the entire time. 4. Good we did order was good
• Rocarr92 (8/5): Overall Good Review - it is still a work in progress. - WARNING: this will be a very lengthy, but overall GOOD review. My husband and I came to Belize for our honeymoon. We stayed for 5 days in May (2023) from Monday - Friday. We chose Turtle island based on the reviews we read and how low key and quaint the resort was - which was what we were looking for. To get there you have to fly into BZE airport, then take a small caravan plane over to San Pedro Island (which Turtle Island sets up for you) and then you get picked up by golf cart by Turtle Island and taken to Storm Dock to take a 2-3 minute boat ride to the resort. Once we got to the resort, the boat captain (Valerio) took our bags straight from the boat to our room for us. Martha (who works at the front desk and helps schedule excursions) met us off the dock and greeted us. Ernesto (one of the bartenders) also greeted us with a very nice welcome drink while we checked in. Once we were done checking in, Martha gave a nice tour of the property and walked us to our room which had a lovely floral display on the bed saying “Happy Honeymoon”! Martha proceeded to give us a tour of the room and then left us to get settled in. After getting settled in, we quickly realized they actually put us in the wrong room type (smaller than what we paid for). We went back to the front desk to get some clarification on what happened and they were very quick to apologize and work on the issue. We went to the bar and waited for our room situation to be resolved which took about 30-45 minutes. Martha then came and got us to take us to our new room, which they had upgraded us to one of their 2 bedroom villas at no additional cost!! It was very sweet of them to do and we were very appreciative!! After that minor hiccup, the rest of our first day went smoothly and we spent it getting acquainted with the resort and getting to know the bartenders! (Haha) Like most of the other reviews have said, the food was AMAZING!!!! there were two chefs there during our stay, however we only got to know one, Danny, who was super friendly and a GREAT cook!! Our go to food was the coconut shrimp basket (pretty sure we had it everyday haha) and the ceviche (definitely get the shrimp ceviche!) they also had amazing shrimp curry and their pork chop was amazing as well!! There were a couple items on the menu that they were out of the whole time we were there because most of those items are imported from the US and because they are on their own island, it is harder to keep those items in stock or get them restocked quickly. However, the staff did a fantastic job of letting us know ahead of time which items they currently were out of. The staff in general were all extremely friendly and accommodating! Because it is such a small resort they do a good job of getting to know you personally by name. When we were there, there were maybe 15 of us max staying at the resort. My husband and I became friends with the bartenders and built up a little friendship with them! We have to give a shout out to our guy, Nathaniel (AKA Macaroni hahah) and Izzy! They were there the most during our stay and made our experience so much fun!!! Another cool aspect of Turtle Island was they actually have 2 rescue sea turtles on property! Lucy and Tipsy! Lucy is very friendly and alway looking for food where Tipsy is a little bit on the shy side. Both are absolutely beautiful and the staff will let you feed them! It’s pretty awesome! They also have an adorable resort dog named Huckleberry who is just the sweetest!!! Ok, now for a bit of a critique: Before I start, keep in mind that they did just switch management companies in January of this year (2023) and they have started the process of making changes and remodeling to eventually make it a much larger resort/ ownership program. Because they have recently taken over the resort, communication I would say is still not 100% between the staff and the guests. There are still some missing puzzle pieces they are trying to fit together in order for everything to run smoothly, but our experience was that it was mostly fixed. For example, our room hiccup that I mentioned earlier, there was a little Miscommunication between the staff that had put us in the wrong type of room, however they did eventually get it resolved and even upgraded us at no additional charge. When we initially booked at Turtle Island, we had booked an all-inclusive honeymoon package. Once we arrived it seemed that this was a brand new package that they weren’t exactly sure of what all was included for us. I kind of had to remind them what was included in our package and prompt scheduling the items that were included in that package. However, when I did ask about our package, they were quick to resolve the issue and got right on it and were more than accommodating. Secondly, since the resort is on their own island, right now everything is run on generator power. Once their remodel project is complete in the next two years, they do plan to have everything running off of solar power, but because they aren’t there just yet, the island is strictly powered by generators only. While we were there, we noticed small rolling blackouts throughout the day where the whole resort would lose power for about 30 seconds to a minute and then come back on for a while then go back out again. Apparently the generator was over heating, but by Wednesday afternoon (our third day there) they had completely resolved the problem and we didn’t experience anymore blackouts the rest of the trip. Going back to the commutation issue I had mentioned earlier, when we were upgraded to the villa, we had noticed on day 2 that the water level on our private pool had decreased significantly overnight. We asked the staff several times everyday if we could get it refilled to no avail. It ended up getting so low that the water got below the intake valve and shut the pool pump off so it wouldn’t be sucking air and overheat the pump. We asked several staff members each day until we left, but the problem never got taken care of. We were only able to really enjoy our private pool on day one, when the water level was normal. Another thing I will add is, BRING BUG SPRAY. My husband and I didn’t even think about it and we got chewed alive!!! I have so many mosquito bites all over from sitting outside in the evening/night it literally looks like I have chicken pox. This also brings me to another point: there is no shop or store onsite at the resort. If you are planning to buy sunscreen, bug spray, medicine, etc. once you get to Belize, either do it at the airport or stop in San Pedro before you take the boat over to the resort because there is no place to purchase anything once you are there. We brought everything with us from the US and just checked a bag, so it wasn’t an issue for us (other than the bug spray hahah) but that is something to keep in mind! We also only got house keeping twice during the 5 days we were there. We got it Tuesday and Thursday. They didn’t exactly clean, just made our bed, gave us fresh towels and took out the trash. Which was fine with us! If you’re someone who wants house keeping daily, it will probably have to be something to talk to the resort about upon arrival. Overall, our experience at Turtle Island was amazing!!! It was the perfect getaway for our honeymoon and it was extremely low key! The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating and we will definitely be back in the next two years to see how different it will look after the current project is complete! Oh! Another thing to keep in mind is that because it is a small resort, there is only one pool and one restaurant on property. Everything is made to order so keep in mind that it does take a good 30+ minutes to get your food after ordering it since they make it fresh right after you order. So if you are an impatient person while waiting for your food to be ready, or you’re looking for a more fast paced environment, this might not be the place for you. None of this bothered my husband and I and it was just what we were looking for! We will definitely be recommending Turtle Island to our family and friends and we will 100% be back in the future! Recommended things to do: Definitely go to Hol Chan and Shark Ray Ally (this excursion was included in our honeymoon package and the resort set it all up for us). We did the tour with Amigos Del Mar and had Ian as our tour guide and he was absolutely Amazing!! We also went to Secret Beach and definitely recommend going to Blue Bayou and taking a venom shot! (Just do it!!) they have picnic tables in the water and they have waiters that serve you in the water!! It’s definitely more crowded on the weekends, but it’s very low key during the weekday which is when we went and we still had a great time! (Turtle island will also set up transportation for you to secret beach. You can either take a boat there straight from the resort for $150 which is what we did, or you can rent a golf cart for $50 for 24 hours and you can golf cart there from San Pedro island which is about a 45 minute drive in the golf cart) One last thing I forgot to mention: you can take the boat back and forth from the resort to San Pedro island whenever you want, you just need to schedule it with the front desk to make sure they have availability and a boat captain to take you (either Captain Valerio or Captain Joe). Just keep in mind you will more than likely take the boat with some of the staff members either coming to work or leaving work to go home. That is the only mode of transportation to and from the island and there is no designated guest boat and/or staff boat. They only have two boats that go back and forth right now to Turtle Island and San Pedro. Again, overall we were very happy with our stay and can’t wait to see what is will look like in the next two years!!! Definitely recommend!!!

The food was delicious and the location was so picturesque. All the management and staff were really friendly. There are lots of plans to develop the island and I am sure it will be a popular location to vacation. We took a golf cart rental to secret beach, had an amazing snorkelling trip, floated through caves, visited mayan ruins and did a food tour around local restaurants. I would definitely recommend visiting Belize and this resort in particular. Sally
