It looks like you are in the small tavern up in the mountains with no cities around. Really liked the atmosphere! Everything is great and there are even heated mattresses for the cold night! The environment is so lively and full of positive energy, making it easy to connect with other travelers. The owners are incredibly supportive and make you feel right at home. On top of that, the food they serve is delicious and very affordable — a huge bonus for backpackers. A perfect mix of comfort, community, and great value!

• Jessie (9/5): Amazing hospitality - The owners are lovely! They can help you with most of your further adventures - especially any trekking you might be considering. The vibe is warm, cosy and friendly. Clean bathrooms and dorms, even the food was pretty decent with a good price. Highly recommend staying here. The owner even helped us with accommodation, when we had forgotten of book an extra night and everything cheap in town was full! Nothing loved it all.

• Yu (10/5): Best place to stay in Shangri-La - The owners took very good care of everyone, ensuring everyone was well fed and had good ideas for their trips around Shangri-la. They even upgraded the toilets to ensure the guests' needs were met. We had many great conversations about hiking, trekking, and which were the best places to hike in Yunnan, conversations which would not have been possible without the wealth of experience the owners had.

In a quiet alley in the old town, serves good and fairly priced food and most of all very accommodating owners - helping and giving advice and also really nice to just talk with them. Would always book here when I’m in Shangri La.

• Green (8/5): I felt right at home here! - I felt right at home here! The location’s perfect—inside the old town, so you can walk around. The host was super friendly and helpful; she even booked a great tour to Balagezong for me. I also loved the dorm bed—it had a heated mattress, so I slept really well during my 2-night stay. Would totally stay again! The hair dryer is near the dorm beds, so I felt a bit uncomfortable using it early in the morning (around 6am). I was worried it might wake someone up.

Her family and her were friendly and introduced backpackers/foreign tourists between them. Location was great, next to the dancing place but in a quiet street. The wifi is ok too. The heating system was in the metress of the bed. Which was strange for me and I couldn't adopt with it and couldn't sleep much.

I booked with them the hike to Abuji Lake (was amazing ) and he booked for me the bus to Lijiang ! Loved the food there, I also tried a Korean dish and the best coffee I ever tried in China! But Very bad staying for me and it’s my first time to be in Shangri-la, it destroyed my first expression to this nice city. The female host kept mentioning that my 6-female bedroom booking was very cheap, at least three times she mentioned this “cheap” price for my booking. I know it’s cheap but why kept saying this every time. The first time she mentioned this shared bedroom “cheap price” was when I was doing my check in. She said this price little profit and really cheap. Second time when I asked her about the shampoo and she said no offer for this shared room so I paid 3 yuan for it, ok never mind cos my booking no mention shampoo. And she enhanced this shared bedroom was very cheap so no offer shampoo. The third time, she never mentioned I can use the locker in the room until I asked her why I didn’t have a key for this locker even there’s a deposit needed for it, and other roommates have the keys but she never mentioned to me. she said cos I stayed only for a night and price was “cheap” and she “thought “ I wouldn’t need it. Those lockers was supposed for this 6-bedroom service. Anyway I did pay this “cheap “ price and should include this bloody locker. It felt like cos I paid “cheap” price and only one night stay, so I didn’t deserve this. If you can’t offer your service in a proper way why bother to make this bloody “cheap” booking available? It’s really a bad experience I ever had to stay in a hostel especially so many international good comments in booking. Very impressive. By the way, the bed really shaking, I guess it must belong to this “cheap” price.

• Lukrecija (9/5): Lovely and authentic hostel, would come back again - Very authentic hostel with very nice owners and travelers! Owners speak great English and if you need help they can provide assistance, like organise a tour for you and etc. They also have a restaurant so you can get food directly at the hostel. Liked by foreigners - made quite a few friends in the downstairs restaurant! :) Also the location is great, just on the end of the ancient town. The thing I really didn't like was that there was no soap in the toilets. All rooms share the same two toilets and so having no soap to wash your hands after is very unsanitary. And it's also one of those things which you forget to bring to the toilet every time you need to use it - in my stay in China I didn't have this problem in any other hostel. I understand about shower toiletries but I feel basics like soap should be available in the shared toilets. Not necessarily a minus for me but the beds don't have any curtains or anything, so if you like some privacy you won't get it here. I really didn't mind it myself but in case it is useful to know for anyone else. :)

The hostel is lovely and very comfortable. The shower is great, very warm for the cold days and always being clean. The night can sit around the wood stove, have tea and make new friends. Also has a diverse kitchen, I ordered some dishes with friends and it was all delicious! The location is also perfect, I did everything by walking. It would be perfect if the beds of shared dorms had curtains to maintain privacy.

The living room is very cosy, very suitable for taking a warm tea after a good hike, meeting other people from the hostel, or eating delicious food (chineese, corean and western dishes are available). Shared rooms have bedside lamps and electric blankets for warmth, bathrooms were also modern. The host was incredibly friendly and answered all my questions about different tourist attractions. She even helped me book a taxi to the airport on my last day! Thank you so much for your hospitality, would highly recommend this place to anyone travelling in Shangri-La!
• Anna (10/5): Feeling like home - This Hostel is the best I‘ve ever been to - I even stayed two nights longer than planned, even thoughthe weather forecast had predicted only rain. The location is perfect - right on the Edge of the old town. But do NOT follow Google Maps, the Location is wrongly listed there - follow agoda or Booking It is run by a young family. The owners speak English and are happy to help you with any questions or tour or Booking you would like to do. They also help save money wherever they can and have lots of connections. The homemade dishes (Tibetan, Yunnan, Korean, Chinese, Western) are prepared with love and are very delicious. If you don’t want to go out or you want to chat with other English-speaking backpackers, or the family itself, it‘s always fun to sit around the stove, have tea or hot water and talk about different cultures, experiences, ect. as if you were part of the family Beds, rooms, bathroom, showers,… Everything is always perfectly clean Everything was perfect

• Ying (10/5): Exceptional - The hostel is an original Tibetan house and run by a couple with the most romantic lovestory. He, Korean, was backpacking through Shangri-la. She, a local girl from one of the nearby villages, caught his eye. They fell in love, got married and are now running the hostel conveniently located in the old town of Shangri-la. The food menu is a mixed of Western, local and Korean dishes, cooked by the lady of the house. You are warmly welcomed and entertained by the couple and they will make your stay unforgettable!
• Rasmus (10/5): Exceptional - The hostel itself is really pretty. It's an old Tibetan house with a nice courtyard and a balcony on the first floor. They serve excellent food all day. Try the Tibetan porridge or the yak meat burger. Honestly one of the best hostels I've stayed in in Yunnan.

I came back a bit late for dinner but she still offered me to cook a delicious veggie bimbimbap, as her husband is Korean. She stayed with me to chat during the dinner which was very thoughtful. Her kids are lovely and the family can offer tours as the husband - I didn't met - is a tour guide. No worries for the few references on booking, they just moved from Hostelworld platform on September, where they had hundred. The wooden house is really beautiful and cosy, authentical in a Tibetan style (she is from the Naxi people). Showers are great, with warm air. You can reach the Tavern hostel directly with the bus 1 from the Shangri-La railway station. And the location is at 8 minute from the monastery and very near the dance square, where you can experience dancing collectively in circle in the evening. Nothing
