Guest Reviews
- Porrino (2/5): Good location and nice artwork but atrocious street noise/ vibrations and poor hospitality. - The location couldn't be more convenient and the apartment was decorated with lovely artwork. It also has every possible appliance you could need, and the kitchen was fully stocked. Additionally, the host's father was very kind and graciously met me after midnight to give me the keys and show me the apartment. I also appreciated that the host responded rapidly to any messages. The level of street noise was so atrocious that I was unable to get any sleep in any of the 3 bedrooms and resorted to sleeping on the bathroom floor. The vibrations penetrated the entire apartment, even with multiple white noise machines (the building walls and windows are very thin).
Then one day into the visit my grandfather passed away (I provided proof and linked to the obituary) requiring me shorten my visit and there was no willingness to partner with me to find a solution. I even spent an hour on the phone with booking.com to lift the dates so they could attempt to find another guest but there was no attempt to do so nor any follow-up, so I lost a thousand dollars without an apology, a wish for safe travels, or even an acknowledgement of my final message confirming my departure.
Additionally, the first two days the apartment stunk like sweet smoke and was nauseating and headache-inducing.
Finally, the glass doors to the side patio are sticky/old/fragile and difficult to move/lock and overall felt pretty unsafe (e.g. it would not take much to break into, and I felt unsafe after getting caught in a protest that turned violent (e.g. fires on every street corner, tear gas, bullets, the works), again with no recognition or concern from the host).
They never inquired (even after I mentioned getting caught in the violence) but I literally was sheltering for two hours in a darkened random hotel lobby until the protests passed. During the chaos I lost my apple airpods and it was genuinely frightening. So just as a side note you might want to reconsider Limassol itself given the civil unrest.
I've stayed in countless airbnbs and hotels around the world and while I realize this was an unusual circumstance (e.g. close family death + protests outside of anyone's control) - a little bit more care and hospitality would have gone a long way.
I would still stay away unless you are a blackout sleeper with zero chance of needing to modify your plans.
