Guest Reviews
- Elias (6/5): - Well, the host was nice. We had a confusion with the number of guest and the host was nice with us and we solved it. The futons were confortable and in general the house is good. I did not expect to actually stay in the same house where the host lives. Although he was nice, the fact that he lives just in the floor below makes you be extra careful and feel more like you rented part of the flat, which was not what we expected. Also, its in a veeeeery residential area with nothing around (you need to walk 20 mins to get out of the neighborhood) and far from the train/subway stations.
- Satomi (3/5): Mistake on my part. - It started as us not being able to get in with the code that was listed on the lengthy manual. Mr. Mori’s had sent an updated code via email but after 11 hour flight, why would I be checking email? He seemed annoyed that I didn’t know the updated code.
In the manual, it said if you dirty the towels, you have to wash them yourself. I had assumed there were a washer and a dryer. I was wrong.
Another thing I didn’t catch was that Mr. Mori and his son live on the first floor, so that made it awkward. If I had known, we wouldn’t have picked this place.
However, the worst of it all was musty moldy smell. We left early and came back late, so we weren’t there for long but I dreaded coming back because of the smell. Towels and bedding smelled moldy and even our clothes started to smell the same after several days.
I feel sorry I didn’t tell him all of this while we were there but with so little sleep, fatigue, jet lag, so much to do every day, it was easier to suck it up and not say anything. On top of it all, my husband had a medical emergency. I wrote extensively what our situation was whenever I could, but I didn’t get a response that I am used to receiving. I found his concerns for towels and trash collection highly puzzling. I feel bad for Mr. Mori’s family situation that there is no woman’s touch, but, it lacked consideration for non-Japanese guests. No small spoons, no mugs, no paper towels or kitchen towels, no washer and dryer for 6 days wasn’t ideal. All the cups were tiny, delicate and expensive looking. We were afraid to break them. What we were using might have been a small vase. Who knows? This could’ve been solved by providing more practical inexpensive mugs, plates, and silverware instead of your eclectic collection of tiny cups and saucers.
I contemplated whether to write reviews or not, but I decided to do it so that changes can be made to improve the situation or let other travelers know what to expect.
- Nicoletta (5/5): - Faceva molto freddo in casa, sopratuttto nei bagni. Non era la casa che mi aspettavo. Decisamente overpriced.
- Ian (9/5): -
Rien
- Hinemoa (10/5): Heart warming. - The decor was very cool and the roof top was spacious and had a great view of the city at night. The host was extremely kind and welcoming. Constantly checking in to ensure we had everything we needed and offering help. The host was very easy going, kind and accomodating to our large group, regularly made us snacks and offered us sake whilst still respecting our privacy. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay.
As for the location, it was a short walk from Sangenjaya where we spent most of our nights eating and bar hopping (open very late). Very cool area, we loved exploring the lively narrow streets.
