- Ayling (4/5): - Location Not cheap, crowded, not clean, not helpful, shortage of toilet paper not value for money
- Allan (6/5): - Would have been better if booking.com had shown it as "1849 Backpackers". Bit of a surprise on arrival.
- Stephen troy (8/5): -
- Xin (9/5): -
- Poppy (1/5): - The pillow cases The smell, the staff, was woken up but people screaming asking for drugs and accusing us of stealing their tobacco. Staff were on heavy drugs.
- Hedges (3/5): -
- kurniawan (10/5): happy - good nothing
- Michael (7/5): Uncomfortable bed but a nice atmosphere in a good location - The greet received from staff members at the hostel was great. The location was in a brilliant spot with everywhere in the town being a walking distance. The room really wasn't up to standard if I'm honest. The bed was pretty uncomfortable, there was a large crack in the glass on the window and air gaps around the pipe works.
- SUU (8/5): -
- Gabrielle (4/5): - Good location It would be nice if it says it includes breakfast to have it early enough for those catching transport to be able to partake
- Timothy (5/5): -
- Silvie (7/5): -
- Isabel (10/5): Overall great backpacker stay and set up. - Great location and facilities. Parking and check in is easy. Happy with the pancake breakfast too. Thank you. Word of warning for those who wanted to know with female only dorms, transwomen are in female only spaces.
- Gina (9/5): -
- Muazam (4/5): Not good, If you need some rest in peace - The location is good. Right in the centre. This place was not cleaned. Toilets were bad. Bedding was not cleaned properly and trash was found in every corner.
The breakfast had only 2 pancakes with a raw sugar mixed liquid. You have to pay for everything. Despite having a proper booking through booking.com they charge $50/person as a security deposit. Even the key deposit is $10. The staff was not very helpful.
No AC or Fan in the room.
- Chris (10/5): Hat's off to the staff. They've been so accomodating and very friendly. - The staff the frontage could be made more appealing and welcoming vibes. anyhow, the moment you get in, friendliness starts.
- Andrea (8/5): never stayed in a backpackers before and to be honest was pretty good felt safe and welcomed - bed mattress super hard
lots of stains on my mattress
plus not vaccumed so lots of hair and debris
- Noeline (10/5): Pleasant friendly place - Close to everything It's a bit noisy for me since I was tired and went to bed around 10 pm people were still active till 11pm I could hear them. You can't compare it to a hotel room door since timber flooring so you could hear sounds. But apart from that noise everything was perfect. Very friendly staff and clean.spacious room. I had a family room so it was a private room.
- Cheryl (10/5): Most enjoyable. Highly recommend. - Pancakes for brekky were amazing! Everyone was so welcoming and helpful. Friendly staff and friendly guests. Quieter than we expected also, and so close to places of interest.
- Andrew (4/5): - Staff friendly Booking mistake made by website (not me) was not reimbursed, so paid double. Very disappointed. Room was no better than average
- Janice (8/5): - Quiet. Great other guests. Comfy beds. Pancakes! Shared toilets and showers.

- JUS (2/5): Central, but tired and poorly managed! - Central location Shocking administration. Prepaid and booked with Booking.com but didn’t even have my reservation on arrival! Then required an unnecessary deposit, even though they had my credit card details, then refused to fully refund the deposit, keeping an amount for themselves.
Very tired and worn out facilities, bathroom absolutely horrid. There is much better options in Albany.
- Yossi (2/5): -
- Rosemarie (9/5): Well run, centrally located backpackers hostel in central Albany. Great pancakes provided at breakfast and on request is - Well run backpackers hostel in the heart of Albany. Great pancakes and fruit provided for breakfast and the bonus for us was that we were able to stay there with our small dog. I would have preferred to pay more and have an ensuite but realise this is a backpackers hostel and having shared bathrooms is the price to pay for such affordable and pet friendly central accommodation
- Brittney (5/5): - Good location, and awesome pancakes. Cheap accommodation. It’s what you pay for it, cheap, and it’s a safe place to sleep. Very old school and run down.
- Graham (2/5): - The internet was good The room was very basic and depressing and we thought the pillow cases had not been changed
The bathrooms were not clean. It was tricky to find the place and we did not know it was a backpackers. We paid a lot of money that was definitely not good value. Personally we would not stay here again
- Mustafa (8/5): - Very central and convenient location
- Ilaria (1/5): - nichts schmuddelig
- Tomas (5/5): Fair, basic for a budget stay in a good location - Great location in middle of albany a short walk from shops bars and restaurants and short drive from main sights. parking was easy too. Relatively cheap. Free pancakes every morning is good Damp smell in the room, which got quite warm. No aircon though a fan is provided. Only two sockets for a fridge/fan/bed light + a charger if you want to charge your phone. Bathroom facilities were very dated, shower pressure/temperature wasn't very good. Not the most social hostel, people werent that friendly though a few said hello. Laundry not allowed until afternoon. Wifi was poor
- Morton (9/5): -
- Isabel (5/5): Okay - The hostel cat slept in my bed and we managed to upgrade to private room Full of drunks, very outdated
- Matteo (8/5): -

- Yik Yang (8/5): - There's a cat.
- Pauline (8/5): -
- Ajay (7/5): -
- Skye (6/5): Convenient for a stop over - Location and free pancakes The mess, everything was grimy and broken/breaking, beds so uncomfortable in the dorm I was in. Looks like it needs some serious DIY care to restore it to what it was a decade ago when it won some Lonely Planet awards.
- Helen (7/5): -
- Nicoló (10/5): -
- Virdan (6/5): -
- DANY (8/5): -
- Marina (7/5): -
- Bolong (9/5): - Located in the centre, very amiable host, room big enough for a short stay. Have no reason to complain about anything.
- Jessen (9/5): -
- Lea (8/5): -
- JPiccolo (6/5): Okay for a night or two - Good location and even thought it's old, I could see they were trying to keep it clean. Free two panckaes every morning but you'll probably have enough after a day. The place is VERY run down. My room looked nothing like the photos, it was dusty with no coffee or tea facilities or even a mirror. No AC and fly screens on the window and the room got so much sun that the heat trapped in the room at night. There also seemed to be many long-stay people who worked in the area.
- Amy (1/5): Not worth it - The younger lady at the counter was very friendly and lovely! At 7am in the morning my partner and I were asleep. The older guy walked in at 7AM in the morning no knock! I was basically naked and felt very violated and he tried to make an excuse and apologise. That’s all.
- Stanley (5/5): - Niets Geen airco in de kamers .
- Tom (9/5): -
- Ritish (1/5): -
- Robert (6/5): -
- Sarah (8/5): - I really liked this hostel. Very close to the bus station. Kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms were all very clean. Wooden floors in the bedroom so no dirty stained carpets thankfully. The bathrooms were cleaned twice daily 👍The kitchen had plenty utensils, pots and pans, plenty fridges and storage. Yes, it's an old building, the clue is in the name, and needs a lick of paint in spots, but it's clean where it matters. It has lovely high ceilings and plenty of character. The common room and outdoor space are also nice to chill out in. The staff are all lovely and the breakfast pancakes are delicious 😊 Nothing
- Colleen (9/5): Great for a One Night Stay - Good location and a small parking lot available. Was able to find parking when I was there.
Wifi was decent.
Surprised they have pancakes every morning!
There's a cute cat too! Didn't realize that cutlery had to be hired.
Maybe put a few more pens in the kitchen for labeling food.
Wish the downstairs common area was open later but I know why they do it.
- JIAQIANG (7/5): -
- Matúš (7/5): Price/value option - Price/value
WiFi worked After 22:00 you must leave all common rooms and if you want to have conversation or in my case continue in work you are eligible to do it only outside of hostel no matter what weather there is(cold)
Parking is limited, if it is full you need to park outside on street, but there are few broken old cars in areal which if would be towed away it would create places.
Some guys don’t know how to flush toilet but that’s not problem of property
- Fallon (6/5): -
- YAZE (7/5): -
- Cynthia (1/5): Unpleasant, bordering on unsavory - To be fair, the hostel did attempt to provide a range of options- refreshing drinking water in the room’s fridge, a guest kitchen, table games, outdoor tables, etc. The bedsheets had been washed. There was an extra blanket and pillow in the room, as well as a fan and heater, in case of need, and a small fridge chugging away through the night. I liked that a group of young travelers appeared to be enjoying themselves- did not appear affected by the miasma of the hostel.
And thumbs up for the staff who care for the women’s bathroom, which was kept clean (though they can’t do much about the rust and mold). And, there were large old bathtubs, good for soaking.
I hear this was once a fairly good hostel. If the management gets it right, it could be ok again. But for now- especially for solo women-it is a place to be avoided. Smelly, dirty, dreadful view of parking lot from my window, ancient carpet in room, unvacuumed along wall edges.. Once the evidence demonstrated that this would be a bad place to stay, I started to try figure out how steps for leavin. I was willing to forfeit the cost for 1 of the 2 nights of my booking, just to get out of there. The staff member (who was dropping f bombs when I returned to the office) said he took my money and that’s that, no refunds. … ... Slightly menacing as he challenged me about wanting a refund, he made it too uncomfortable to continue with a conversation. Next, I spent an hour and a half requesting refund from Booking. Did they have my back? No. They wanted photos. How do you photo document unpleasant smells and unsafe situations? The next morning, I decided to just accept the loss, and find another place to stay. But by then, there were no other hotel vacancies in the area. Back at this hostel, on the second night, a big shouting fight erupted between a staff member and guest- the staff member was threatening a guest with kicking her out and she was screaming and crying that she had a right to stay. Eventually the staff went away and the woman stayed, I guess.
The advertised image of the entry looks nice- but the reality is that you have to get through a rough parking lot in front of the building, before entering, where it appears that people are living in a couple of the vehicles - not caravans, but vehicles that are in pretty bad shape, cracked windows, etc., and a couple guys in the cars seemed a bit out of it. You run that gauntlet just to get to the entrance of the hostel.
I’ve stayed at hostels all over the world- hostels can be great places to meet other travelers, learn about the area, etc… but in this hostel, I just kept out of sight in my smelly dusty room .
Breakfast for all the guests was only served for 1 hour. 2 pancakes, I hear. The single hour it was served was not convenient for me, so no comment on that.

- Michael (6/5): Pleasant - Was in town Very cool
- Jo (5/5): To expensive for what you get - Great building and pancakes. Friendly stuff. Everything is very old, the mattress above had mould in it. Needs new mattresses, I felt every single spring in it and could here them too.
The whole thing needs to be renovated, it has a great possibility to be a good hostel if you put some money into it. Overall to expensive for what it is.

- Diana (7/5): - Everything was clean and comfortable, fabulous hot showers, friendly staff, excellent location and superb fresh, hot brekky pancakes with maple syrup. Great value !! The beautiful old building is what it is, old, but I had a wonderful safe stay and could park my car on the premises. Thanks for having me, see you next time.
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Krieger (8/5): Very good - Quiet, All amenities worked, Close to town, was able to sleep in the 6 bed dorm very well, but only 1 other guest was there. No complaints.

- Kavan (10/5): Exceptional - Great hostel in Albany! Great if you’re stopping over on a road trip or staying long term! The beds were comfy and the free breakfast pancakes were amazing!
There is also parking available which is helpful!
Thank you guys
- Peter (7/5): A welcoming place to stay in the heart of Albany - It was there when I needed it. It is close to town. The info mentioned free pancakes for breakfast, but not where to find them. Having to wait until 9 to recover my key deposit was a problem, though I understand that staffing is limited.
- Bibbilibbi (7/5): In the heart of Albany - Breakfast Pancakes for free. Two pillows on bed. Warm showers. Location excellent Double ply toilet paper One thin blanket, we had to sleep in two long johns and two jerseys plus pyjamas. Pillows kept on falling through head piece of bed. Towels and cutlery must be hired!
- Jeanette (6/5): Not very good - Location near main street
Free pancakes for breakfast Dining area very cold, dirty and not very attractive.
One bed in the dorm, rm 11 should go to the ironwaste. It is a childs size and not sturdy.
- Steven (1/5): Bad -
- Jody (8/5): Good value for money - Good location I didn’t enjoy sharing a room with people who are living at the hostel full time, it always feels like an intrusion this way.
