Guest Reviews
- Brian (10/5): - Everything was on point None
- Jessica (7/5): Comfy beds/cabins and great location on the river! - Amazing location right on the river! Clean cabins with comfortable beds. Beautiful lush gardens. Lots of birds! Facilities weren’t really in working order, the pool area may have been washed out by floods, but looked like it hadn’t been maintained previous to that. The food was average & quite expensive.

- Paul (7/5): A perfect position but the service was poor - The lodge is well placed on the Chobe River and we had a room that overlooked the river from a distance. The staff varied from time to time but there was one lady who was particularly efficient. When we arrived we requested dinner but when I went to find out what time it would be served , I was told that the chef was sick and we had a choice between Nandos or a pizza place take away. When I came to order this, it turned out that they had found a chef, so they cobbled together a meal.
In a similar vein, we had hoped for a game river trip but this was not available. We had no transport so could not arrange for an alternative.
Let's say that for a game lodge, communication was extremely poor!
- Hanlie (8/5): Good - Breakfast good The fishing facility
- Atlasaone (10/5): Great - The service, location and activities There was slight racism
- Annah (10/5): -
- JACQUES (10/5): -
- Lars (10/5): Sehr sehr freundliches Personal - Sehr sauberer Pool
- Tanya (10/5): - The breakfast was amazing. The staff were friendly and helpful.
- Stephanus (5/5): Very sad to see such a beautiful property so neglected - The bedrooms are very comfortable The pool area is run down it’s actually disgusting. The parking lot looks like a scrapyard with all old car parts lying around and the restaurant staff are rude
- Caterina (8/5): -
- Fay (4/5): - Room 1 & 2 were very comfortable. Location is beautiful Some of the staff are unfriendly, unhelpful and generally disinterested. The receptionist was positively obstructive
The public area is dirty
- Frans (4/5): - The property location is lovely but is very badly managed, grounds need urgent attention as do the pool area, lappa etc. Staff are not happy with management so do not give their best. Overall the stay was disappointing.
- Brett (5/5): - The view of the Chobe River, peace and quiet and the boat cruise. Main lodge building neglected, dirty and run down. Room air-conditioning did not work, wi fi was very poor and therefore no TV. Geyser not switched on so no hot water in the beginning. Communication between reservations, reception and management non existent.
- Terry (3/5): Beautiful location.. but poor facilities management. - An incredible location.. right on the river.. close to the border of Zambia.. amazing staff..especially Wame who went above and beyond in assisting us. She was an absolute star.
Great view of the river as well. Unfortunately we found the actual facilities poorly maintained and lacking care and maintenance.
There is a really noisy water pump straight in the middle of the most amazing view where the dining area is that is incredibly noisy and totally ruins what would be a peaceful and beautiful scene. While I can appreciate they need water from the river fir irrigation etc.. it's location shows no thought to the guests who would like to enjoy the peace and serenity the river offers.
The showers were also below standard and did not hold enough hot water for 2 people to have even a relatively short shower.
As far as meals, we couldn't order off their menu as they only had a buffet style option due to a big travel group.. ended up having to order takeout.
Don't think we'll stay there again.
- Yvette (2/5): Terrible - do yourself a favour and find somewhere else. - I was lucky to have room 2 the river view room - best (but then I was literally the only guest the whole 5 nights). Clean and comfy. Everything else was TERRIBLE! The staff never smiled, helped, useless re tours, the breakfast was a disgrace, the pool is dirty, no pool furniture, everything and everyone is old and tired, I had been so excited to treat myself to what I thought was a luxury lodge and have had better experiences at backpackers for a tenth of the price. So remote - there were lovely places in town. DON’T stay here.
- Caroline (8/5): -
- Caren (10/5): Fantastisch!
- Tina (9/5): Superb - Staff were very helpful and the bungalow very comfortable except the air conditioning didn't work so it was very cold during the night and early morning.
The lodge offers water and land safaris but be aware of all the costs.
The cost to stay is expensive everywhere in this area but some places are all inclusive which may be better value. I was travelling with people and wouldn't ordinarily pay this much for accommodation and the air conditioner didn't work so I was very cold at night.
Everything cost extra and so may not be best value.
- Alba (8/5): Very good -
- Leonard (1/5): Bad -
- Evelyn (10/5): Exceptional - I like everything about the place. None
- Gail (8/5): Very good - The staff, the comfortable bed. The location.

- Donald (5/5): Passable -
- Carl (4/5): Disappointing -
- Eugene (4/5): Place has a great location nice units. Except that the property needs attention!! - The location was nice Place needs some maintenance real bad.
- Heidi (7/5): Good - The area around the lodge...grass not cut..lots of small rubbish lying around..swimming pool and area around swimming pool dirty
- Howard (7/5): Good - Room was great. Lodge is a bit tired. Swimming pool was good fun - most avoided it! I think they may be upgrading it because it needs it.
- Andreas (9/5): Totally recomanded - Stuff support an buffet
- Heidi (7/5): Good - We had rooms 2, 7 and 10. The rooms are really nice. Aircon. Coffee station, small fridge..nice bathroom with shower. I should give the rooms a rating of a 9. Breakfast was good. Dinner buffet..we had it for 1 evenings..food was very good. Boat trip and safari with Joe from the lodge was excellent.
There is also a beautifull campsite. I would recommend this lodge but it is not perfect. first impressions: pool dirty..pool area dirty..new pool construction...lots of small rubbish around..I picked up small pieces of paper..bottle lids...sigarette stumps. Grass areas not cut..no furniture to lounge at the pool. I called garden boys and got them to add chlorine to the pool and scrub the walls. They had no idea and was very thankfull. my feeling was that the owner or manager is not around to manage his team. This place got a lot of potential.
- Precious (8/5): I like the good view to the mighty river - It’s typical excellent for holiday Nothing
- Kozibaw (9/5): Enjoyed my stay 😀🇧🇼 - very close to the river & friendly staff. I will definitely return in future. I can't think of any I didn't like yet.
- Skeffington (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hans (10/5): Exceptional -
- Heather (10/5): Tshidi makes this establishment a great experience. - From my first phone call to the property, handled by the lovely Tshidi, we were so impressed. She handled all our questions with so much patience. Such a gem. Nothing
- Darrel (1/5): Bad - Booked in - Given a room -- Problems with wifi - Aircon dose not cool -- TV not working "told it is only an ornament "
various Electrical connections not safe -- we thus decided to leave and not stay -- rather than move to another room everything including management response to the problems
- Dinet (7/5): We will definitely visit Kasane again. - It is on the river! The food and its 15km from the centre.
- Derick (1/5): Bad - Not at all how it looks. The pictures are misleading. Crumbling infrastructure.
- Dawn (7/5): Good - Setting on the river
Room comfortable Food ordinary
- Anita (6/5): Big5 Toro lodge :( - The Lodge is on the Chobe river bank. We expected more/better views.
- Gloria (5/5): Accommodations were fair, clean. Nice staff, especially Tshidi, the main receptionist who helped us - Staff was courteous. Room was cleaned nicely everyday. Our chalet gad good view of Chobe river. Breakfast and dinner menu was the same mostly everyday---always buffet, which is not to our liking.
- Greg (3/5): Poor considering they are closing down - Position Closing down
- Ralf (6/5): Pleasant -
- Paolo (9/5): Superb - The cottages overlooking the river are really beautiful The cottages behind not so nice
- Jaco (6/5): Fair - Location good Facility needs maintenance
- Marius (2/5): Very poor - The room was overpriced and the location was rubble outside no15
- Ash (8/5): Very good -
- Msawenkosi (8/5): Very good - Props to the kitchen staff, they were always willing and able to cater to our needs. All the staff were great and hospitable The Aircon was not working even though they tried to fix it. but happy to be given an extra blanket instead
- T (9/5): A nice stay in Kasane. - A very nice stay. The room was clean and a lot of space. Close to the river.
- Tumi (7/5): This place could do better. As things stand, the location is the only thing that is working. - Location was perfect. Had a a river view room that provided the tranquility I required. Excursions were arranged effortlessly. The basics are lacking:
Room: no mirror, no shower cap, rubbish tv offering
Meals: no variety, same options everyday, no basic coffee machine
Bar: ran out of drinks
- Vic (2/5): NOT recommend to go there. - It has a good location by the water. But that’s all…
The best was Joe the guide that took us to the Chobe national park. It needs a LOT of maintenance many things where broken, even at the entrance where things on The ground. Pool not cleaned, room ultra basic. Ac did not work. Other guest were partying until 1:30am and then left all the cans on the garden… food was bad, breakfast too. Waiters were very unfriendly.
- Pieter (8/5): Very good -
- Farai (10/5): Exceptional -
- Farai (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elrika (8/5): Very good - Nice view, breakfast was excellent.
Very friendly staff. You can not park your vehicle close to your chalet. For someone with a disability this is strenuous.
The bed lamps need to be switched off at the door.
- Hanlie (1/5): Bad -
- Henkdrik (9/5): Superb -
- Otto (7/5): Lovely little lodge set on the beautiful river - Lovely private rooms with a lovely view of the river. Location is good for getting into Kasane town centre, but could feel a little bit far out. Breakfast was delicious. Bathrooms felt a little bit exposed (especially at night) as there was no glass in the windows in our room but mesh instead.
- Tiddy (6/5): Pleasant - The room and the bed were really good The food very average cold fried fish. The waiter was nice but obviously not trained.
- Kevin (8/5): Brilliant we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the staff were exceptional. - The location and staff were exceptional. Joe,the guide was exceptional and Tshidi went well beyond the call of duty in helping us during our stay. It was clear that ,under new management, the property was undergoing a lot of refurbishment, but the pool area needed an earlier intervention.
- Khwin (6/5): Pleasant -
- Claudia (9/5): Superb -
- Chanio (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chanio (10/5): Exceptional -
- Van (10/5): Exceptional -
- Salas (7/5): The place is nice, but very basic food and activities. - The rooms were very clean, confortable and the bathroom was renovated. Nice green area with beautiful view to the river. The restaurant was not good, the breakfast was terrible. Not much vibes in the place, like it is not completely active. The boat cruise was very low cost.
- Floris (8/5): Very good - Beautiful location! Piece and quit. Big location, but not a lot of guest so it felt a bit deserted. They have renovated the property, but still need to arrange the finishing touches. It’s the little details that make a stay thoughtful to return to. Talked to the owner to adres these and he was very responsive and appreceating the feedback.
So hopefully our next trip year the little details are being thought of.
- Jorge (2/5): Very poor -
- Ina (10/5): 5/5 at Big 5 Toro Lodge - Amazing, friendly staff that went out of their way, to make our stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible.
The food was delicious and top level.
Tshidi, OT, Sarah, Martha,Cherry, you are all awesome. No option of having a river view room, when booking more than 2months ago, and staying for 5 days, and other people staying for shorter time, had the better view.
- Jeremy (9/5): Superb - Location..the room..the activities The swimming pool
- Natasha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Van (8/5): Very good -
- Crystal (9/5): We really enjoyed our stay! - The view of the Chobe river is absolutely stunning!
- William (8/5): Very good - Location. Staff was friendly. River view and garden was very good. Boat trip to the bridge was great. Dinner price was to high. Wi Fi in room not available due to weak signal. Bar facilities not available. Only a fridge with a few items. Shaded parking a problem.
- Carl (8/5): Beautiful complex along the Chobe river ! - Perfect location on the river banks
Nice gardens
Breakfast with a view !
Staff very friendly
Hippo in front of our room 😍
Small complex Pool not clean- area around the pool in need of extra attention
- Louis (8/5): Very good -
- Ronel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Barry (8/5): great stay - Everything was great, really enjoyed our stay and the helpfullness of the staff. Choice and price of dinner.
- Donovan (6/5): Potential for greatness - Easy check in. Peace and quiet Spiders in the room and mosquitoes. Out door furniture dirty and spider webbs.
- Louis (9/5): Nice setting. - Fantastic location For the price a plain dinner can be included as we got at another lodge
- Derk (8/5): Very good - Very comfortable beds and silent aircon in very clean rooms.
- Paulo (4/5): The lodge was closed for a long time and is clearly rundown except for the rooms. Work in Progress - the rooms are new and very comfortable. The location on the edge of the river is stunning as are the trees and garden. Beautiful views. bird life very nice. Pity that the only other guests there, left empty drinks by the garden chairs at the river and these were never cleaned. the owner was very friendly and helpful. we only had breakfast there. it was basic. the place is being worked on and looks a mess in certain areas, the pool and entertainment area/bar is a dilapidated storage mess. as is the large bar lapa. the parking area is also being repaired and more building site than hotel reception. the dinning room and reception neglected. the boat jetty has fallen into disrepair. Considering this they should be running a special rate and advising guests before they arrive.
- Yvette (7/5): Good for an overnight stay - Bed very comfortable and WIFI good. The food was good. Overall nice & quiet
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Khumo (6/5): Pleasant -
- Claudia (6/5): Great Location but Disappointing Stay not Worth the Money Charged - It’s right by the river bank, stunning view of the Chobe river from both the room and the restaurant area There were no defined walk ways to the rooms and it had rained, so my shoes ended getting soggy from the wet grass. There were also no shower caps in the rooms and the breakfast was left wanting with not enough ingredients to offer a satisfying breakfast. specifically I asked if I could have an omelette and there were no “ingredients” to make it. The power also cut off for some time and there was no backup generator. I struggled to find the reception area because there were no signs guiding where it was.
- Sikanda (4/5): Disappointing -
