Guest Reviews
- Nicholas (10/5): - The room that we got, for the price we got, was unreal. It was large and luxurious in a very old money way. Lots of really nice wooden furniture. The room would have cost $500-1000 per night, minimum in a Toronto hotel. We also had full use of the dining area and the pool.
When I got there, there was no car there, and there was a porch light on but no other signs of life. I approached the front desk and I see that there is noone there but there is a form with my name on it so I start filling it out. Suddenly there was a voice. I look up and I see a camera. This was a little bizarre at first but the gentleman on the other line was very good at explaining everything. He was not on the premises, presumably because of the ice storm, so I figured that's why we had the whole house to ourselves.
We had arranged to be in room #3 as the crib was there, but when we found out we were the only guests in the place we asked to stay in the nicest room (#2) and move the crib there and he agreed. We just couldn't stay in multiple rooms. Turns out the crib didn't fit through the door in room #2, but it was such a nice room we decided to take the Pack and Play bed out from the car so we could use that room.
Summary:
We had an excellent time there and it was a wonderful, unique and special experience. I could see how the place is not for everyone though.
If you are someone who is very particular, who likes very modern hotels, with a lot of staff and a very predictable experience, you would probably be better off in a corporate hotel.
If you want to know what it feels like to have a family sleepover at your wealthy grandpa's house while he is out of town, this is definitely the place. There were some complaints in previous reviews on Google Maps so I want to address them.
Cleanliness: Everything was very clean. The sheets, bathroom, kitchen were all super clean, so if you book either of the rooms we saw you are probably good.
Pool: I took a swim first thing in the morning. The water was a little cold but perfectly fine for swimming in at your leisure. It's like what it would be swimming in Lake Ontario in the middle of summer. You also get to warm up by some realistic looking artificial fireplace which is by the pool. I made a coffee and drank it next to the fire after swimming and watched the snow fall outside. It was awesome.
Bed: The bed was a giant king bed with antique wood that looked like it was out of a historical movie. It was the most comfortable bed I have slept in in a while. My girlfriend and I were sprawling out. If you get room #2, guaranteed comfortable bed. Again, I can not vouch for the other rooms.
Bathroom: The ensuite bathroom was very large and clean. Fully stocked with a selection of shampoos, conditioners and body washes. There were a couple of ladybugs in the bathroom near the window that just sat there. They did not upset us at all. There were no signs of any other bugs whatsoever throughout the property. It was no big deal.
Host: I dealt with Yatin. He is the owner. He was nice and professional. We wanted a late check out and he said it was no problem. He seemed very reasonable.
Front Door Lock: There is now a lock on the front door, so we were able to lock it from the inside before going to bed.
