Guest Reviews
- Jacqui (8/5): Good base for exploring Castlemaine. - The house was in a fantastic location, close to Castlemaine and other beautiful towns. It suits or needs perfectly, as I went away with my daughter, two friends and their daughters - so we could have a room for each family. One of the bedrooms had a little ensuite too. The kitchen had the basics needed to prepare meals at home, and the check in process was very smooth. We loved the electric blankets on the beds. It comes with staying in an older house, but it was very cold when we stayed in April. The heaters in the home did make it more comfortable, but you still need to make sure you've got warm clothes packed. The home is also on a busy main road, so something to consider when staying with young children.
- Ray (10/5): Sensational place to stay - Close to where we were working
Clean and comfortable X
- Jenny (8/5): A perfect place to stay and unwind, or use as a base to explore the surrounding areas. - We loved having the space all to ourselves. It was well set up and had everything we needed. Finding out that it was the childhood home of A.B. Facey was a bonus. There was plenty of room for us to enjoy our time and just relax without feeling like we were on top of each other our entire stay. The pillows were a little flat and two of us had to 'raid' the other rooms for an extra pillow. The only other suggestion we have is that providing an extra sofa chair or two seater would make the seating perfect. No one likes being the middle person on a three seater couch!
- M Elizabeth (6/5): - There was only one hotplate out of 4 working on stove top, so had to bring up the portable 2 plate cooktop from extra area...if you were only staying in 2 bedroom section of the house you would have a big problem cooking even the basic breakfast.
- Susan (9/5): In quite a convenient position for us.Clean and comfortable. Good.alue for money. - Clean and comfortable. Nothing to dislike.
- Bronwen (9/5): Welcoming house, great instructions, couldn’t be better - Excellent appointment, an older place but very clean and tidy. Lots of kitchen equipment, and excellent showers. Bed in back bedroom while large was slightly hard.
- Nicole (10/5): We will stay there again! - It was cosy like they say it is.
The owners kept in touch while we were on a drive down from qld. We had messaged them to advise we would be getting there a bit on dark and they offered to leave a light on and the heater on.
They were very thoughtful.
They even had some outside toys for the kids which my 2 year old loved! We couldn’t use the fire place. It had heaters throughout which was good.
- brittani (10/5): A great stay in a lovely farmhouse with everything we needed. - The farmhouse was spacious, cosy, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Excellent for families with an enclosed yard. The location was peaceful but still close to Castlemaine. Owners are absolutely lovely. Everything was perfect.
- Ruth (7/5): Comfortable and good value - The house is comfortable and the rooms are not as large as they appear in the pictures. We like all the books and the arrangement of the bedrooms works well for three couples. We liked being able to walk to Little Red Apple and also into Harcourt bushland under the railway line. The kitchen needs some improvements - labelling of the hot plate knobs and repair to the oven. Also a stronger dishrack, a bit more and stronger cutlery, some more glasses.
We do not expect a modernisation of the kitchen - just some simple improvements.
- Denise (7/5): Cosy Country Getaway - Good space for 2 couples (friends) to spend time together for a couple of nights. Two of the three bedrooms had comfortable Queen sized beds & good cupboard space. Electric blankets & convection heaters in the bedrooms were a welcome addition given we visited in winter, & it was cold. The bathroom (shower in bath) though old fashioned was good, with a straight forward shower that WORKED effortlessly. 😊 The ensuite is small but our friends were perfectly happy with it. We took one car so the parking area was close to the back door. Very handy when returning at night after dining out. Oven/stove top, microwave,
fridge, toaster & kettle, plus basic necessities in the kitchen meant that having come with all the food provisions we could prepare a cooked breakfast to enjoy together with our friends instead of having to go out for all meals. A day trip to Bendigo was just a 1/2 hour drive away. Over all it was a very pleasurable stay. Despite all the efforts made by the owners arriving on a cold winter's day meant the home was cold & we had to stay rugged up. By the 2nd day the heating provided had begun to take effect & it was lovely & "cosy" for the remainder of our stay.
Perfect for 5 people. 2 couples & a single person. We mistakenly chose the front bedroom & discovered the bed was way to small (despite being very average sized) & had to change bedrooms n the middle of the night. So just be aware in case 3 adult couples choose to rent the whole house.
- Marian (8/5): Very good -
- Christine (9/5): Very comfortable and relaxed stay. - Charming historical Aussie cottage. Clean and comfortable. Spacious.
- Fadzli (9/5): Highly recommend Road House if you’re visiting Castlemaine and surrounding area. Daylesford is just 30 mins drive too. T - The location is just perfect if you’re planning to explore Castlemaine, Bendigo, Daylesford and surrounds. It’s relatively quiet apart from the sound of Vline train passing, but barely noticeable with windows shut. The size of the house, living, dining, kitchen and rooms are great too! Perfect for a family trip. Nothing really.
- Beth (8/5): Very good - Very clean. Excellent book collection Could do with a few more implements in the kitchen. A few hooks in the bathroom would be good to hang towels etc
- Mcfarlane (7/5): Would definately stay again, It makes a great base for a relaxing weekend with family or friends. - It is a really nice place to stay if you don't want to be in amongst the tourist bustle of the towns, The top towns of Castlamaine, Maldon, Daylesford and Bendigo are a stones throw away. The house is nicely presented and has an airy and bright feel. Bedrooms and bathrooms are nice, The bedroom with the ensuite has a kitchenette so grandparents can have their own corner of the house to escape, while out the back from the main kitchen there is a nice secure yard with a covered area to play or have a coffee when it's raining. With 3 double beds it is a great place for a family or 3 couples to spend the weekend in a beautiful part of Victoria. The views aren't sensational but it is nice to sit and just watch the birds do their thing from the lounge room or the dining table. Some might not like it but the road noise was there being close to the main road, also the railway is behind the property but we loved watching the trains go by. To be honest the house is where it is and there wasn't really anything not to love. I think this is a new place to stay so it can only get better !
