- Jane (10/5): Wonderful.. relaxing.. it felt like home - We adored all aspects of the property. The building was a home filled with memorabilia, the gardens were beautiful… the transported dance studio is breathtaking and the hosts were two of the nicest people we have ever met. Nothing.. we were sad to leave the property after our 5 night stay

- Jenny (10/5): The property was such a beautiful place to stay and the hosts Tarnie and Clive were very welcoming. - Breakfast was such a lovely treat, home made fresh bread and croissant, seeing all the resident pets was nice experience, I felt very much at home. there was nothing you could fault, the property was gorgeous, rooms were very well appointed, so there was nothing I did not like.

Sympathetically restored building with a great feel. Large, comfortable rooms and lovely communal areas with lots of visual interest. Thoughtfully and charmingly appointed.
Fabulous garden. Relaxing to sit by the pond under the trees and enjoy being visited by the chooks. Met a very happy rescue fish, a unique and memorable experience.
Fresh and delicious continental breakfast with coffee made just the way you like it.
- Melinda (8/5): Absolutely beautiful home & stay - Absolutely stunning heritage building with gorgeous styling . Toni was amazing, giving a wonderful tour and explanation of the history of the home. She was so warm and welcoming . Breakfast (included) was incredibly delicious!! Not great if you are a light sleeper. Of course the house creaks as the floorboards are gorgeous & expectedly noisy. However, there are only sheer drapes, not curtains, over the numerous lovely windows. The room was very bright; even at night with traffic and street lighting shining into the room. There was also no air con or fans either for hot sleepers. The bed was very comfy. You can feel how much care has gone into this beautiful home . If you’re a sound sleeper,I I absolutely recommend staying at this stunning B&B
- Neil (10/5): Islay House Woodend Victoria. - I stayed for one night so I could revisit Hanging Rock and participate at Campaspe parkrun the following day. I really enjoyed my stay. Islay house is about 5-10 mins walk from Woodend station. Very close to the town centre and right across the road from Campaspe parkrun. I was made to feel very welcome. Tarni and Clive are really nice and friendly and I really enjoyed their company. I was especially grateful to Tarni for offering to take me to the rock and picking me up later. I didn't expect it. Not many people would do that. It was such a nice gesture, and I really appreciated it. The property is really clean and comfortable. In fact, I had the best night's sleep throughout my time in Australia when I stayed here. The blue room was a lovely room to stay in, spotless and spacious. I had a good breakfast the following morning at a time, which suited me. I could have easily stayed for longer, and I do hope to go back again at some point. I was very happy with my decision to come here. It was perfect for what I was looking for and if you're planning to visit woodend, this is the place to come. Highly recommended!! Nothing negative at all.
- Peter (9/5): A comfortable stay in a beautifully restored historic house. - A beautifully restored historic building and a comfortable and spacious bedroom. Pleasant and welcoming hosts.
- Melanie (10/5): Historical cottage in welcoming town with a warm and friendly host. - Beautiful quaint cottage with original features and history. Modernised for comfort. The stairs were quaint but steep and narrow with luggage.
- Dorothy (7/5): Good -
- Bryony (10/5): The epitome of true hospitality. - Islay House has been beautifully restored; every single feature was a delight to take in, I was quite speechless when we arrived and were taken on a tour of the house and garden before checking in.
The owners were so welcoming and it was lovely to witness and feel the pride they hold for their property.
It truly felt for the stay like we were in a little slice of England; the building is bright and airy, yet cosy, and you could see that every piece of decor and furniture had been picked with care and thought. I am sure there are many stories contained in the house, within its contents.
My room was very comfortable, I slept so deeply; despite it being an above 30 degree day I did not feel hot and it was nice to wake up in the early hours and pull on a blanket. My room was equipped with everything you could need, with a set up which just made sense, in the ensuite too. They even provided face wipes and by chance, within the tea selection, my favourite tea bags (lemon and ginger) and filter coffee as well as a kettle in the room. There was a similar offering downstairs in the guest dining room, with various types of milk you could put in a flask and take up to your room. There were also cupboards in the guest dining room which you could help yourself to if you wanted to enjoy snacks in the lounge or garden, or needed wine or spirits glasses etc.
Whilst I didn’t go down for breakfast my mum did and she said there was a huge selection of tasty, locally sourced products to choose from.
For me the highlight was enjoying a quiet cup of tea by the little ornamental lake after a long day, before dinner, surrounded by the splendid landscaped backyard, in the company of the ever busy, clucking chickens! They were lovely.
Can’t wait to find an opportunity to stay again- for longer! Thank you for providing a much needed little slice of heaven. Islay House is the epitome of true hospitality- a welcoming haven for travellers and guests who will feel valued and cared for.
- Bindi (9/5): A lovely B&B and owners! - The decor, owners and breakfast Nothing
- Sonya (10/5): Exceptional - Tarni and Clive were perfect and friendly hosts, and have done an amazing job making this property soo cosy. Every room was beautifully decorated and the garden was peaceful. We had a nice breakfast and felt very at home. We loved relaxing here and plan to come back purely to stay here again!
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional - Size of the room and the hosts. Breakfast was very basic, and it didn't meet the expectations of continental.
- Madelaine (9/5): We had a great stay, thank you! - Tahn and Clive were great hosts. The property was clean, and we were cosy for our one night stay. Met some other lovely guests and had a pat of their resident Murray Cod in the pond! A lovely experience overall.
- Sam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melissa (9/5): Superb - The continental breakfast was varied and plentiful. The house location was very quiet overnight and was set in a large country garden. The renovation to the property has been sensitive to the period features. The house was an easy walk into the centre of the Woodend township. Tarni, our host, was very friendly and welcoming. Absolutely nothing!
- Caroline (10/5): Clean, comfortable stay in a gorgeously renovated old inn - We had a lovely stay at Islay House. Tarni was very welcoming - showed us around the building, the room and outside. The room was very comfortable and clean and fresh-feeling. Had a great chat in the morning about some of the old books in the library and the dining room - Tarni was informative, but not overbearing - a great hostess. Liked the bodywash in the shower. The breakfast was delicious and simple - cereals, muesli, warm croissants, toast, excellent coffee and juice.
By no means is this is a negative or something we didn't like, but as per the description, it's a gorgeous old inn with a wonderful personality. As a bed and breakfast, you will get to meet others staying there and given the age of the building, you might hear a bit of noise in the hall. Again, nothing that troubled us, but it might be worth noting for some.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and will recommend to friends.
- Anthony (9/5): Superb -
- Lawrence (9/5): Delightful! We would definitely recommend it to others, and hope to make a return visit. - We loved everything about our stay. The ambience in all of the rooms was warm and welcoming. We especially would have liked more time to spend browsing the bookshelves! And we really enjoyed chatting with Tarni during our delicious breakfast 😊 Decaf coffee would have been helpful for Lawrence (though not essential 😉)
- Lesley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sophie (9/5): Superb -
- Howard (9/5): Lovely guesthouse with great hosts. - Clean, cosy, comfortable.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ashani (10/5): Perfect weekend in Woodend - Amazing country house with old Colonial vibes. We felt like we were transported back in time to one of those Bridgerton houses. The hosts are such lovely people, we had the best time getting to know them and their pets (Bodie, Charlie and Muddy waters). It was such a relaxing holiday and we highly recommend this place!
- Marian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Clarissa (10/5): Beautiful weekend away in a stylish B&B that was incredible warm and welcoming. - Beautifully restored building, styled rooms, exceptional bedding and so warm and comfortable. Tarni was also a gorgeous hostess and prepared a lovely breakfast in the dining room for us.
- Richard (9/5): Superb -
- Remy (8/5): The place has a great feel and is very well run. Would recommend without hesitation for anyone travelling through that b - Tarni & Clive are gracious hosts that make you feel welcome in their historic guesthouse. All but 1 rooms are on the 1st floor. The staircase is narrow however Clive is only too happy to carry your luggage upstairs.
- Claireog (8/5): Very good - The breakfast was a really nice touch (delicious pastries), and very well priced.
- Katherine (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely hosts and beautiful home
