The location of the apartment is great! It is minutes away from Oxford street with access to retail, cafes, restaurants, bars, tourist activities/destinations (Hyde Park, Marble Arch, buses, tube) etc. It is very walkable and in 20-30 mins you can easily stroll to theatres in the West end.
Since we were staying for a longer duration, we requested a mid-stay apartment cleaning and though we were willing to pay for it, the property manager comped the clean.
We also we liked that we got 3 sets of keys. Negatives:
1. Stairs: The apartment has 3 bedrooms but only 1 (smaller bedroom) is on the main level. The other 2 bedrooms are at a lower level with steep, narrow stairs leading to them. None of the photographs of the property or information shown on the website point this out. Since we were staying there for 11 nights we had some luggage and carting that up and down the stairs was challenging.
2. Inaccurate Information: Listing mentioned the apartment is airconditioned – which it was NOT! On pointing this out to the property manager, they said it was Booking.com’s mistake. After our first couple of days the weather in London turned and became increasingly hot making sleeping at night unbearable. There were a couple of fans provided in the room but only 1 was working. The property manager did provide 2 more fans at our request – this made the stay bearable but nights were still uncomfortable.
3. Property Condition: Apartment is old, ill-equipped with supplies and maintenance is tardy. The radiator leaked in the smaller bedroom and left a musty, damp odor throughout the whole stay – this was pointed out to the manager but nothing was done about it. Wood floors creak and dip at many places. Windows are spotty, dusty, stained and there were cobwebs on the walls that had not been cleaned. Kitchen was ill-equipped with dishes – when we first arrived there was only 1 wine glass and no serving dishes. On pointing this out, the property manager did drop off wine glasses and dishes – but this should have been looked into before the guests arrived. Even though the property listing said ‘free toiletries’ – we were told that only a ‘starter kit’ is provided and the rest the guests have to arrange. The listing needs to point this out upfront so expectations are clear and guests can prepare accordingly. Lastly, Wifi connection was extremely weak in the lower level.
