- Diana (10/5): Lovely off grid experience in awesome location - Wonderful off grid experience in the bush, right near the beach. It was great for our boys to have plenty of space outdoors, toast marshmallows and swim and kayak (bring your wetsuit!).
- Brenda (3/5): House description should be provided to manage expectation - the bed the toilet and showering facilities. Heating was only by woodstove. Floors were wet upon arrival. 2nd house was not heated and had no wifi. What is that 3rd house?
- Renea (1/5): Words cannot express how disappointed we were with this accomodation. - The location We were initially excited to stay, but when we arrived it was not what we expected. The ‘water efficient toilets’ are what we would call ‘long drops’, one of the rooms with the bunk beds was very small and dinghy and not suitable for 2 adults (it was booked for 6 adults) and under the bottom bunk was filthy, when you walk into the entrance of the back cabin it is actually the toilet which makes it awkward when multiple adults are staying, there are no door to the bedrooms (except the small dinghy one) which is awkward for couples staying, it rained heavily overnight and there was a leak in the upstairs bedroom of the main house, the sinks in the bathroom and toilet in the main house clogged/backed up quickly, the wood heater in the main house was very hard and slow to get working, so better instructions would be beneficial. It took 3 hours to get it to a temperature that was comfortable. The straw as walls was just weird. Essentially it felt like we were staying in a half finished house. A microwave toaster and electric kettle would also have been beneficial. Heating the Kettle on the stove is slow especially if you have babies who need bottles.
The place was well Over priced for the experience.
It is a shame because the location is beautiful and peaceful!
- Kristy (10/5): We would love to return and spend more time there. - The location was stunning- right between two different beach settings. We packed a picnic and spent the afternoon at the beach which is only a short lovely walk away through the bush. The house is quirky and interesting with a beautiful design and decor. The owners have thought about many of the details. Loved the wood stove, and the straw bale walls with all the little window nooks to sit and relax was heavenly. The provision of a few basic pantry items like sauces and seasonings was also much appreciated, as the island does not have many shops. Minor points, but it was difficult to use the kitchen without hot water and the composting toilet got quite full, but we understand that these are off-grid challenges. It is in such an incredible location that it is totally worth it. We enjoyed the fact that it was not covered in signs with do’s and don’ts like many places, but a couple of pointers on efficient use given the sustainable setting might have been helpful. (For example, I would have used the compost bin if I’d seen it earlier).
