Guest Reviews
- Guest (10/5): Well located, lovely and cute little hotel with a very friendly staff and comfortable, clean rooms. - Most comfortable bed I've ever been in honestly. The staff were so kind and friendly, the whole place was really cute and I loved my whole stay. Room was perfect for me, what I expected size and facility-wise and very comfortable and clean! The food at the cafe downstairs was delicious (especially the hot chocolate). Location was great too! Can't really think of anything I didn't like with my stay, it was great! There was a long, narrow staircase to get up to my room, so maybe something to consider for people with mobility challenges.
- Guest (8/5): Overall positive - Central Parking for guest wasn’t great and looked dangerous
- QIRUI (10/5): -
- Lydie (7/5): -
- Candace (1/5): - Proximity to the mont. Walking distance No heating in the room. We froze in the snowy below zero conditions.
Cracked bathroom basin
TV didn't work
Mold in the shower
Looked more like a dump/renovation site outside our door.
Loose wiring in the ceiling
Nobody to talk to at check.in/check out
More like a glorified hostel feel with the old walls and bunkbed
- Phil (7/5): - Location. Room size. Not even a hook to hang your coat.
- Annie (8/5): - Près de temps, l'hôtel a beaucoup de cachet.
- Grace (10/5): - Really cute and cozy place. Older building but it doesn't take away from the charm. Close to the Metro station Peel and you're right close to downtown.

- Douglas (8/5): Fantastic value & location! - This is an amazing location for access to McGill, downtown, shopping $ restaurants - all walkable!
A converted house - my room was spacious with renovated bathroom. Some of the common areas show a little age & Cafe is great for coffee, tea & breakfast items. But not an issue as numerous options nearby!
- brian d (6/5): -
- Kristi (8/5): A terrific location on a lovely street! - The location, the character of the building and the coffee bar. Nice shower, felt very European. Bed was small and a little soft. Overall the room and bathroom were small but that’s what you get in a character building.
- Jean-Luc (10/5): Beau séjour. A recommander. - Très bel endroit un peu vintage avec beaucoup de charme.
- Wendy (5/5): Location is superb, facility not so much so. - The location was extremely good. The room was very small. We stayed in one of the family rooms and the bunks were very small. Suitable for two children but not ideal for two adults. The room also had a not so great smell, and the whole facility had the feeling of a worn out hostel. To be fair they did seem to be in the process of doing some painting, etc. but overall it still felt pretty run down.
- Juan Sebastian (5/5): - Staff is very friendly, location is fantastic if you have business at the university or somewhere else downtown, seemed to be quiet during my stay. The pictures show a "boho chic" vibe that is actually a clearly quite old and very very tired looking hotel. The walls in my room were clearly supposed to be white, but were blackened and coated with some kind of grime. I could somehow smell my neighbor's bathroom from my room.
- SHIHORI (10/5): カフェのスタッフの方が鍵の掛け方、開け方など、とても親切に対応してくださり安心でした。 - とても雰囲気の良い建物とカフェと内装でした
- Adam (6/5): Requires retrofit - The property should be retrofitted Obsolete, overused equipment, carpets, furnitures
- isabelle (3/5): déçue par la description du Routard y sont ils sont ils alles pou vérifier ?i -
- Brendan (5/5): Below average - and im not very picky! - Location. Building. Staying there a few years ago, i would call the D'Ambrose "shabby chic". Now i would say mostly "shabby". I did need to iron clothes, and the staff said they would put ironing facilities in my room. They didn't and i was poorly presented for work thew following day. The Cafe only opens at 8, and other than have average coffee, there was no fresh food available at opening. Toilet seat broken, carpets in common areas disgustting.

- Guest (10/5): - Perfect location for us…near Central Station. Very charming old mansion. Nothing fancy. Had a great sleep.
- isabelle (3/5): Je ni recommande ni reviendrai - le secteur bien place Moquette sale, rideau qui ne tenaient pas, une impression de mal entretenue, tres difficile d'accès pour les personnes avec un léger handicap

- Wendy (2/5): Do not recommend. Will not return. - The staff at the front was friendly and the location is very central. We booked a king room which was confirmed but got a double bed. Bed old and saggy, room very basic - no tables cable box falling off shelf - no head board no towel rack no coffee or fridge. 1 towel each but no hand towels or face cloths. The room was in rough shape. Needed painting, floor boards dirty and bathroom fan very dirty. Overall extremely disappointing. Have stayed many times in Montreal for a similar price and had much better accommodations.

- Gilles (5/5): Will not go back - Location Rooms were spartan. For example no closet space whatsoever.
Also lots of features were broken ( towel racks) and common areas were old and in bad condition

- Jack (8/5): Very good - Great location, quiet neighbourhood, walking distance to golden mile, museums, tourist sites, Couldn't get tv to work. A set of instructions would have been great.
Issue with toilet, once flushed, would not stop running, had to lift lid and jiggle the flap
- Emily (9/5): Cozy guest house with friendly staff and great coffee - This is the only place I stay when I visit my daughter at McGill. It's so cute, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the little cafe has fantastic coffee and pastries!
- Katy (7/5): Good -
- Carljan (9/5): Superb -
- Naireeta (9/5): Superb -
- Amir (8/5): Very good -
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional - Ambrose House was perfect for my stay! Central location, clean, quiet, great value, easy parking and good coffee too! I will definitely stay here again!
- Ron (6/5): Great potential, horrible sheets. - It's a very cute place, basic, but very clean, and in a great location. Excellent value for the price other than the horrible sheets. The sheets were polyester and very very hot.
If they invested in cotton sheets, it would be a great experience all around.
- April (10/5): I loved not having to check in or out. It was an easy process to show up in the middle of the night and get right to the - Great spot while we visited McGill.
- Hyeji (8/5): Very good - The room was very clean.
Locational was perfect. -
- Katarina (8/5): Great! :) - Good location, friendly staff and smooth check in. The room was all good! It wasn’t an issue for me, but there is no elevator to reach the second and third floor, just a spiral staircase. This would be an issue for people with limited mobility or if you have very heavy luggage. Other than that, nothing to dislike.
- Taciane (8/5): Great location! - The location was amazing. So central and walking distance to everything in Montreal down town area. Easy to get around.
The hotel itself is really stunning. This old style grand architecture is impressive.
The room is very spacious. The bed was comfortable, and the actual room/bed was very clean. The WiFi worked well. The check in and out process was very easy. It is an old building so there is quite a bit of noise that travels. But it was tolerable.
The only thing we would change is the door to the bathroom. It was a frosted sliding door. Not only can you see all the silhouettes. But from the sides you could see into the bathroom as there were gaps. The bathroom also had little hairs. But overall it was clean enough. And the actual shower had hot water and good pressure.
- Debbie (7/5): It was convenient but probably won't visit again. - The location was great. Check-in was clear and easy. The room was clean. It was quiet despite it being a cafe and housing for students. Parking was an issue. We had to park two streets down. They state parking in the description but it's not the case. Also, the hallway to the room was filthy.
- Qin (10/5): Exceptional - Quiet, nice, clean place. Friendly and helpful staff. Just minutes away from the Museum of Fine Arts, and many other attractions. Excellent location!!!
- Thao (10/5): I would come again when travelling solo. - Excellent location, great value. It has all one needs for a night stay and charges accordingly.
The availability of the coffee shop on site adds a nice touch to this place. I wish there was a kettle in the room or some sort of water fountain/dispenser in the common area.
- Oksana (8/5): Very good -
- Judith (9/5): A light filled urban gem, exceptional for the price. - A light filled gem within easy walking to musee des Beaux Arts and concert hall. The cafe is excellent and a unique, delightful space. Exceptional for the price.
- Eri (7/5): feels good - The location was good.
It was clean.
It was just right for a solo trip. The bathroom was far from the room, making it inconvenient to use.
The room was dark.
- Jasmine (10/5): Would go again - Place was clean and very cozy fit for 4 people. Especially we want to thank staff Daniel, when he learned that we were feeling unwell he offered up his own kettle and was happy to run to the pharmacy for us. Everyone was super considerate and we loved our stay! Nothing! Location was convenient too.
- Rusmanugroho (9/5): Superb -
- Arto (8/5): Very good -
- Syeda (9/5): Superb -
- Aidan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ghazi (7/5): Good -
- Cynthia (7/5): Good -
- Nida (9/5): Excellent stay very close to McGill and downtown Montreal. - The room was very comfortable, and had everthing I needed for my 2 day stay here. Didn't really use the cafe much except to get a coffee the day I was leaving, but the staff was very polite. Right by McGill, so expect to see a lot of students/professors in the place, and it's quite quiet at night :) Nothing, it was a very reasonably priced room in a very good location.
- Julien (9/5): Superb -
- Laila (9/5): A lovely establishment with a wonderful staff. A gem located in downtown Montreal. - I enjoyed the cafe and the patio in the front of the property. There were many guests but it was always quiet and peaceful. The comfortable bed and large bathroom were great. It was not a problem for me but be prepared to possibly have to climb some staircases.
- Alex (4/5): Disappointing - Comfortable bed, property was easy to get to, with a decent cafe. Cramped room, limited decor, no window, skylight was incredibly dirty, limited natural light and dark lighting.
- Craane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Felipe (9/5): Great location and value - The location and the place overall are great! the staff are very nice too. You also have a coffee shop downstairs! I would go back as it is a great value for the price. there was some small details, maybe the framework of the bed was noisy and the hair dryer wasn't a little damaged. However, nothing too bad.
- 3xergy (7/5): It is very clean but the facilities are very old. It could use some freshening up. - I didn't love anything but nothing I disliked in particular We had the breakfast in the hotel the first day. The bar girl was so slow, she took 30 min to prepare 2 cappuccino and warm up 2 brioches.
- Joanne (8/5): We had a lovely time and will recommend Ambrose Houseband Cafe. - The room was clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was quiet and was walking distance to shopping, restaurants and the stadium. The queen bed was a little soft. A mini fridge would have been nice to have.
- Tirgari (6/5): Overall it was a good experience but the level of the cost did not match the level of services - 1- A safe, clean, and quiet atmosphere
2- High speed Internet
3- All the facilities were functional flawlessly 1- Lack of a small fridge, a microfare, and an iron
2- There was no response from the concierge
3- An extra level of flexibility of the matres caused us backache
- Luciano (7/5): Good -
- Jun (9/5): Superb -
- Rachel (5/5): We would return so long as we don't have the same room again. - Staff were friendly. Coffee and croissants were good. The entranceway café is charming. Our room (No. 123) was cramped, had a stale smell, the pillows were lumpy, there was no shampoo, the shower and sink were awkward to use.
- Sava (9/5): Superb - We liked that we could get 20% off at Cafe.
- Julie (8/5): Very good -
- Akiko (7/5): Basic but that’s all we need - Good location. Kind staff. Nothing fancy. It has been better if the room had a mini fridge. Nice historical building but the interior design is poor, it would be a great place if they worked on it.
- Jenifer (8/5): Very good -
- Frederic (8/5): Very good -
- Simone (8/5): Very good -
- Marta (7/5): Great location, friendly staff and comfy bed - The location and ataff were really nice and the beds comfy Our room was really antic / old but the bathroom was renovated
- Isabelle (8/5): My second time and will come back. - Great location, affordable, clean and comfy. Everything you need.
- Jerry (10/5): I needed more days. - Clean and lots of room. No elevator.
- Rosie (10/5): Amazing. - The location. The stairs.
- Todd (10/5): Stay here if you want to enjoy the beach in anza. - This place was great, right on the beach cheap and easy surf board and wetsuit rental at 130dirhams a day. Walk up to the terrace grab your board and in 3 minutes ur fighting the breakers! The bed and room were spacious clean and comfy. The fridge was very cold and the room well ventilated. The breakfast is supplied by a restaurant right downstairs and that has seating overlooking the beach. The staff was so friendly we all sat around and talked for several hours one night. The town is so much more relaxed than Agadir. A running hose outside to get the sand off rather than a bucket of water but otherwise everything was great.
