Guest Reviews

- Alexandra (10/5): -
- Calleigh (10/5): It was fun and the people were amazing! Definting coming back! - It was in a gorgeous area, quiet and peaceful. It was incredible
- Cara (10/5): Perfect place to stay with friends and get out and hike, yet also unwind in the evenings - I loved that the linen was clean, pillows and bed comfy, the beauty of the hostel itself, the sauna, the nature to hang out in, the deck and bbq, the kitchen was well laid out, staff were super friendly. The indoor fireplace too and lounge area. Just the smell of the water…but I get it….and after being there for a couple hours I got used to it….the bottled water for drinking was perfect.
- Tal (1/5): Extremely unprofessional, unresponsive and greedy staff. - We had a reservation here as part of a road trip through the Canadian Rockies. Unfortunately, the section of highway between Lake Louise and Jasper was closed for over a week due to an avalanche.
It is important to understand that this is the only road that allows access to this hostel. Because of the closure it was physically impossible for us, or for any travelers, to reach the property.
Every other accommodation we had booked on the route immediately acknowledged the situation and issued full refunds, since guests could not reach their properties. Every single place handled the situation professionally and fairly.
Except this one.
For an entire week they did not respond at all. Not to phone calls, not to Booking messages, not to emails, and not even to Booking.com customer service agents who tried contacting them directly.
After a full week of silence, and only after pressure from Booking, they finally responded by simply rejecting the free cancellation request. No explanation, no apology, nothing.
In the end we obviously never stayed here because reaching the hostel was impossible. However, the management apparently has no problem charging guests even when the only road leading to the property is closed.
Anyone considering staying here should take this into account: this is a remote nature destination, and unexpected situations can easily happen during a trip. If you ever need to contact this hostel or rely on their understanding, you may simply never receive a response. And based on our experience, even when they do respond, they show very little fairness or consideration toward their guests.
- Manoj (10/5): Marc is the best ! - Feels like home
- Philipp (8/5): - If you’re looking for a quiet and remote place to stay, this motel is a great option. It’s located a few kilometers off the main road between Rocky Mountain House and the Rockies, making it a peaceful spot away from traffic and noise.
There are a few useful amenities nearby — I had dinner just across the road, and there’s also a gas station and a café where you can grab breakfast.
The hostel itself has a large, well-equipped kitchen that guests can use, which is very convenient, and the common area is comfortable and inviting.
The room for four people felt a bit tight, and the bathrooms are shared, which might not suit everyone. However, if you value a calm atmosphere and don’t mind these minor inconveniences, it’s a solid choice. Small room, thin walls
Nada
- Jonathan (10/5): - We loved that the cabin was accessible, has plenty of room in the kitchen, lounge and dining for all the guests to enjoy. It’s great too that you can cook in the kitchen with enough stove, fridges, utensils, prep space and complimentary drinks. It’s nothing major, but would be easier if there’s also showers in the upstairs bathroom. ☺️
- Arvind (10/5): Great - Friendly, clean and cozy You could hear people from the next room
- Andres (10/5): -
- Richard (10/5): -
- Glecia (10/5): -
- Kwongchung (10/5): - Large kitchen and clean room NA
- Mei (9/5): We only had one night of staying and it we had a good time in the area. - It’s clean and convenient for kitchen use. The value of the overall staying is a little higher than we expected.
- Tim (9/5): - Friendly staff and guests Walls are a bit thin
- Marjorie (10/5): - Mattress are a lot too be too tiny and hard to have a nice sleep but the rest was so perfect
- Ad (10/5): Fantastisch -
- Karel (9/5): -
- Chuck (10/5): Beautiful place to relax and rest up before hitting the road - It’s remoteness
- Carly (10/5): - Very beautiful location. Very clean rooms, bathrooms and common areas. A small collection of books and puzzles are free to use in the lounge/living room area. Lots of seating options. Not wheelchair accessible, all rooms are on the 2nd floor (stair access only). Staff was kind, friendly and very accommodating. I stayed in mid-July 2025, and they're currently undergoing renovations/construction. The rooms had new carpet, drywall, bed frames and personal bed lights. Everything was brand new, so it was very clean! The beds were so comfortable and cozy. There aren't any privacy curtains on the beds, so if that's important to you I'd recommend bringing something like a Turkish towel or large scarf to hang up if you have a bottom bunk. A bath towel was provided. There was also a tower fan in the room. Other hostels I've stayed at in the Rockies do provide shampoo and body wash in the showers, but this one does not. I made the mistake of not coming prepared and had to purchase some at the local general store. Now I know for next time :) A fire pit, sauna, tire swing and picnic tables are adjacent to the lodge as well. Most of the guests were families, small groups, couples and solo travelers. Great kitchen, very large and clean with lots of storage provided. Complimentary tea, coffee and snacks are available for guests. Free wifi with good speed, and it didn't cut in and out much at all considering the area you're in. It's honestly hard to think of anything. I have no complaints about my stay!
- Ricardo (10/5): Excellent Stay - I stayed there on Jan 9 - Jan 10 and loved the atmosphere of the hostel. The fireplace was very cozy and the kitchen was impeccably clean and organized. Bonus: they had multiple options of tea available and even a small stash of chocolates.
The bedroom was very comfortable, warm, and quiet (to be fair, it didn't look like there were too many guests that night).
The manager who checked us in was extremely friendly. He took the time to show us around and showed us some photos of points of interest in the region.
I would definitely stay at HI Nordegg again in my next visit.

- Wu (10/5): Very good - The room was clean and cozy. There were many board games, which were a lot of fun. The kitchen was spacious and bright, and fully equipped.
- Midi (9/5): - I like the main floor shared space. Like a home.
- Jorge (10/5): -
- Crystal (9/5): Beautiful location. Requires some attention to help maintain that serenity - The location was srunning The house was not managed well. The guests were not mindful of one another, loud at the bedroom level until 11. Unnecessarily loud.. kids playing tag up and down the halls n
- Brittany (10/5): The Nordegg hostel is a large log cabin, rustic, yet comfortable place to stay near mountain beauty! - Having a fridge and freezer along with kitchen access was very helpful! There were hot drink options for us to enjoy such as coffee, tea, and hot chocolate, which was lovely. For breakfast in the morning, we went across the street to the Miner's Cafe and enjoyed delicious food there. There's very minimal sound proofing, so if people were having a conversation even in the common area on the main floor, it was heard from our bedroom when we were trying to go to sleep. Thankfully, I always travel with ear plugs, but that would not be good for anyone who does not have ear plugs. For the coffee, cream is not provided... just powdered milk, so I found that it would have been good to bring my own cream or get coffee off site rather than having it at the kitchen there.

- jossua (9/5): - Tout est rénové, très mignon.
Lars a été très acceuillant et agréable.
Jolie petite chambre. Douche partagée un peu petite.
- Nicolai (10/5): -
- J. (9/5): Heerlijk rustig! - De ligging. Super mooi. En het ontmoeten van andere gasten. Niet van toepassing
- SAU KWAN (9/5):
- Andrew (10/5): Unique and much better than expected - Beautiful building, great communal kitchen, wonderful service. (also a sauna!) Bunkbed mattresses were good, but the pillows could be much better.
- Hassan (10/5): Excellent for the people who want quietness and a stay closer to nature. - Quietness, location , kitchen though self service , comfy beds, hotel manager caring attitude. Nothing , for the price paid.
- Somphop (9/5): -

- Marcel (10/5): See you again - The room was really comfy. The silence helped sleep very well after a long hiking day. The staff was amazing and very friendly. I will definitely visit ut again.
- Ayush (10/5): -
- calin (10/5): -
- hector (10/5): -
- Mark (9/5): Very comfortable hostel with friendly staff. BBQ and share stories around the firepit with guests - Fully equipped double kitchen to cook your own, with free coffee.
- Sarah (10/5): Stay here, it is fantastic! - This place is amazing, just book in, you definitely will not regret it! Location is fantastic, rooms, bed and facilities are perfect, its one of the best places I have ever stayed and I have travelled a lot. The rooms are first class hotel quality, with the friendly communal areas that come with it being a hostel. A total hidden gem!
- Kathrin (10/5): -

- Kunwar (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (9/5): A great place to stay in the area. - A very nice hostel. Well stocked for making meals.
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Caroline (10/5): Fantastic location, clean, safe! - They recently completed renovations of the entire facility. It was nicely done and you can tell the managers have buy in to create an excellent environment. The beds were extremely comfortable and the bedding was clean and new. They even had trains and cars for my littles to play with. 🤩 N/A
- Nadine (10/5): Loved it! - Great location! Super cute place
- Deniz (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tudor (8/5): Very good - The space is clean and the staff was pleasant. If you want to be closer to the mountains without breaking the bank than it's a reasonable option. It's a still a hostel with shared bathrooms and common areas but it's a welcoming space. It's still hostel which means it will lack certain facilities.
- Vanessa (10/5): Exceptional - Close to trails
Even had coffee!!!!

- Lillian (10/5): Clean and comfortable. Friendly and approachable staff. Would definitely stay here again -
- Tseng (10/5): A bit out of the way but definitely worth the drive - Very cozy space and great common area/environment. It was an exhausting day of hike for me so I prefered a more quiet space. There was a group of people there at the hostel. It felt a bit overwhelming since they were really loud, drinking and eating in the common area.
- Erwin (9/5): Good - Manageable Near to our job site
- Riccardo (9/5): Comfy one-nignt stay in the wilderness of Nordegg - Friendly and kind staff, we enjoyed the fact this place was a bit remote and in the wild. Overall, we didn't do much in the property besides taking a shower and sleeping for one night, but it worked out just fine and we were satisfied with the choice. Bathrooms were clean and showers were working great. Maybe the furniture in the room is a bit outdated and the lockers in the room looked small and dirty. Furthermore, I think there was just a single outlet in the room, but not a big deal.
- Shakaib (10/5): Stayed for two nights while exploring Nordegg. Excellent little cosy place to stay in the middle of -
- Christine (8/5): Very good - Very nice location, very friendly staff. We enjoyed the two days over there in nature very much.
