Guest Reviews
- Gaynore (10/5): -
- Barb (10/5): - A lovely renovated building with modern furnishings. Decorated with bits and bobs and history of the former Shop and owners.
Well located for our trip to places we visited, its quiet and great for a couples weekend away. Check in/out was an easy process. Well done!
- Hugh (10/5): A quiet, impeccably clean and thoughtfully decorated inner city accommodation gem. - Such a thoughtfully decorated and appointed accommodation. Comfortable, clean and welcoming. Nothing!
- Kristen (7/5): - Great location and beautifully renovated house. Very luxurious bathroom and bed. We loved the outdoor sun trap. It would have been great to have a small bottle of milk and basic condiments like salt and pepper, which I understand could have been missed by housekeeping but we arrived on a public holiday so shops were closed until the afternoon so it was impossible to get ourselves.
- Ron (10/5): -
- Chris (8/5): Lovely accommodation but a drive into town. - Very nicely furnished accommodation - tastefully done and it felt special. We don't know the Ballarat area and to us the 'centrally located' description given is a bit of a stretch (20 mins walk to the nearest pub - The Marlow (which was v nice)) and the main area for restaurants was further still (we drove as it was walking along busy streets). There didn't appear to be any compendium of tips/recommendations which would have been good. As above.
- Mark (9/5): A little gem - Wonderfully designed and renovated former butcher shop, a little gem, a home away from home. My wife said "I wish we were staying a week!" Not as close to town as I expected
- Jarryd (10/5): Central location in a historical and cosy house. - It was literal minutes away from central Ballarat a the way they’ve transformed the butcher shop into this incredibly comfy, clean and awesome place to stay is great. Nothing.
- ann (9/5): - Comfortable accommodation. Everything worked well. Stylishly presented.
- Sandy (10/5): - Everything, lovely property
- peter (8/5): Great place to stay - Comfortable bed and well appointed kitchen
- Dale (8/5): - It had an outdoor area to escape the air-conditioning.
Lounge, bedroom and bathroom were all separate from one another. Quiet street. A coffee table outside would have been good.
- Paul (8/5): It was lovely - It was beautifully decorated and very warm and comfortable
Loads of atmosphere The shower floor is very slippery when wet
- Shelby (10/5): -
- Carrin (5/5): Not as comfortable and relaxed as we hoped. - Very clean, comfortable bed and great location.
Great potential but need a few tweaks to really make it wonderful. Cold, uncomfortable lounge.
Floor very slippery in the bathroom and no grab handles
Camera at the rear of the property did not allow us to relax and use the outside area.
Too cold and uncomfortable to sit in the front of the house.
- Merilyn (10/5): Fantastic. - It’s location suited my reason for being Ballarat . The property was lovely, clean & comfortable.
- Samuel (9/5): -
- Michelle (10/5): An amazing and comfortable stay, we will be back - This is a fantastic property, beautifully styled with loads of ammenities. We loved the fan in the bedroom circulating the air and the heated floors. The backyard looked spacious and secure. We will be back !
- Samantha (10/5): Highly recommend this property if you’re staying in Ballarat it has everything you will need. It’s warm and comfortable - I liked all the Personal touches. It was very quiet. The bed was amazing comfortable to sleep in and I loved being able to park my van right out the front
- Don (10/5): We'll be back! - What a gem!
Perfect for a night or longer. We were traveling through, had every you needed to cook, close to a supermarket. Bed was very comfortable. Parked out the front with a long trailer and the history of the shop and people framed on the wall was interesting sting and a great touch.
We drove to the lake for morning tea and a walk through the gardens, great spot!
- Wayne (9/5): - Nicely styled and very comfortable.
- Kennedy (9/5): Cute and private in the suburbs - Unique stlying and the documents about the history of the Cash Butcher. Heated tiles were especially a nice touch.
The ease of the front door lock system without the need for a key.
There was lots of thought put into the little extras that people needed when they stay away from home. Just needed tissues and somewhere to put your suitcase that wasn't in the way.
The nice touch of the text message from Jess if we needed any information or help. The bedroom could have had drawers and the linen could have been tidier.
There is always an opportunity to present surrounding are products on arrival rather then some cadbury chocolates.
- David (9/5): - Being close to Ballarat town centre was perfect for shopping, eateries and a short drive to beautiful Lake Wendouree. The accommodation was very appealing with its history and amenities. Lived the huge bathroom. It would be great to have a woodfire in main living area , as it was quite cold and heated flooring only gave minimum heat.
- sharin (3/5): All style no substance, cold and uncomfortable, no onsite parking, very disappointed - The decor was nice Toilet seat broken , no milk, freezing cold floor heating not on, air con filters so dirty the unit wasn’t working we had to clean them, advertised with on site private parking, there is no parking it is only on the street, if we knew this we wouldn’t of booked
- Susan (8/5): -
- Brittany (9/5): -
- Peter (10/5): Went down a real treat. - Special. Toilet seat was loose and needed mats front and rear doors. Only minor problem.
- Watson (10/5): Will make your trip something by to remember. Combination of charm and modern luxury. - So charming. Very modern high end finishes. Nothing.
- Joseph (9/5): Beautiful and amazing property - Property was presented just like the online photo. Beautiful and very comfortable.
- Ross (10/5): Beautiful place to stay that is super quiet - Very cute building, beautifully laid out and styled. Bed magnificent. Really a cracking place to stay! Only thing and honestly, I am being super picky, I prefer a doona cover.
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bob (9/5): Relaxing, Comfortable, reasonably central - Excellent furnishings and facilities Shower floor slippery. Could do with some form of mat and / or rail so that older people (like me) feel safe.
- Helen (9/5): Very comfortable. Next time I will stay for longer. A great base for exploring Ballarat area. - Centrally located and very warm, cosy and comfortable accomodation. I would very much like to come back for a longer stay. A beautifully renovated space and small garden. Clean and tidy. I was not sure about breakfast amenities. I read other reviews mentioning minimal provisions. UHT milk was provided for tea/coffee. Otherwise, I brought my own breakfast. There were lovely complimentary biscuits and chocolates, which were much appreciated.
- Simon (10/5): Beautifully renovated with all the mod-cons of a bijoux luxury home. - Beautiful property, all the features you need, plus the heated floors which were magic! We'll be looking into that for our own renovations. This was a mid-trip stay so the washing machine and dryer were vital, the kitchen well-appointed and just a beautiful space to relax in. Nothing really, it was lovely.
- Debbie (9/5): Superb -
- Lucille (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steve (10/5): A beautiful home away from home. - Quiet location. Spacious rooms stylishly furnished. Had everything we needed. Comfy bed.
- Betty (9/5): Excellent - Great decor and spacious and cosy - we enjoyed our stay.
- Fiona (10/5): Loved it - The Cash Butcher was lovely.
Checking in was super easy & straightforward.
Communication was easy.
Beautifully decked out to make our stay super comfortable.
Great location close to town but still quiet for a great nights sleep in a comfy bed. Nothing to not like here.
- Bruce (9/5): Highly recommended. Super Quiet & classy. Will use again if staying in Ballarat - extraordinarily quiet with a very nice layout and high class renovation.
Very comfortable bed.
Highly recommended, good value for money Couch is a bit uncomfortable, but its really minor.
- Greg (9/5): Great place Cosy and all facilities in place - Very cool place close to city Nothing
- Stuart (10/5): Exceptional place to stay. Just book it. - Clean and peaceful
- Craig (10/5): What an amazing stay - perfect thanks Jessica. Great smart TV as well -
- Rhett (10/5): Exceptional -
- Naba (10/5): Exceptional -
- Reginald (9/5): Comfortable stay in quality accommodation which is very central. - Beautifully presented with quality fittings and amenities The property was advertised as having private on-site parking. This is a little misleading as the only parking is beside the street in front of the building. On- site for every other property I have reserved through booking.com has meant within the property’s boundaries. I would not have chosen to stay here, had I understood that this was the situation
- Anne (9/5): Ideal location so would stay here again despite the problems we encountered - The very comfy bed The kitchen cupboards too high so couldn’t get out the crockery just as well I brought my own
Bathroom shower extremely slippery because of the body wash gel… no grab rails in case you slipped, nowhere to put your bath towel while in the shower
- Lisa (10/5): Fabulous, classy, and comfortable stay in Ballarat - I loved the theme of the decor and how comfortable it was! We had a fuse blow, but the contact was responsive and the problem was resolved in only a few minutes.
- Esther (10/5): Will return. Excellent comfortable bed, quiet location, highly recommend. - Facilities and cooking options even thou didn't use on this occasion.. Quality of furnishings and high end specs. Glorious comfortable bed. Quiet location. Good communication.
- Anita (10/5): 5 Star Cottage - Omg what an amazing discovery this little luxurious home away from home was. Beautifully presented with everything you could need. It was very clean with a beautiful little outdoor area to enjoy. Check-in was a breeze. It was a 5 star place to stay and would highly recommend. The Bunch of Grapes Hotel was within walking distance, and the food was fantastic. We would definitely stay again.
- Iris (10/5): Relaxing - The little outdoor area was a nice surprise. Beautiful magpie songs in the morning.
Beautiful decor in the apartment. A table to sit for meals would have been good. The high stools at the bench sufficed. Later checkout option would be ideal.
- Katherine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melinda (6/5): Whilst a nice property will not return. - Location was ok - as long as you had transport as not really central to Ballarat and main precinct. Floors whilst a quality polished concrete hadn't been cleaned as our feet were black after an hour.
Would have appreciated a cheat seat on how to operate TV.
In back courtyard looking down on outside private sitting area is a security camera - did not appreciate this as I have the same model and know that any movement is recorded and sent to an app for someone to watch. Unacceptable!
As we arrived 15 minutes prior to check in - I checked no one was at the property and whilst doing this received a call from managing agent - passive aggressive manner explaining not to arrive 15 minutes early was not appreciated.
- Cathy (10/5): Location and comfortable - Everything you need on one little home! Nothing
- Andrew (8/5): Very good - eclectic, funky furnishings bed not comfortable, no seated dining area
- Kathleen (9/5): Superb -
- Josephine (10/5): Very comfortable, highly recommended stay - An extremely comfortable stay with a large separate kitchen/living area and a huge modern bathroom with a washer and dryer. The bed was very comfortable and warm and the floor was heated, which is great for Ballarat in winter! I would have liked a door to separate the living and bedrooms but it was a tiny problem compared to the rest of the place. It’s well located if you have a car but you need a car if costing Ballarat anyway.
- Simone (8/5): Lovely little place, the bedroom and bathroom were nice and warm but the living area was cold - The property was gorgeous The very slippery bathroom floor, it’s very dangerous
- Jo (9/5): Superb -
- Caitlin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (9/5): Just right - Just right
- Lee (8/5): A great stay - Fantastic facilities (kitchen, shower, laundry, comfy bed).
The location is great and the size is fantastic for 2.
Back garden space looked amazing.
We would recommend staying here. In the depths of winter, the lack of heating in the front half of the property.
We were expecting some breakfast options (cereal, bread) but only spreads, milk, and coffee, tea were provided.
These 2 opportunities are easily rectified.
- Lachyjoyce (7/5): Lovely to look at but quite cold - The design and fitout of the property was very cool and we really liked the vibe. The kitchen was well stocked. The couch was very comfy and the smart TV had all the apps we wanted. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was very spacious. Ballarat, renowned for being cold, was in fine form the night of our stay with a overnight low of 0. We found the heating in the main living space was not adequate. There was only underfloor heating which was not adjustable and did not feel warm enough for our stay. We did message our host and was told to use the reverse cycle aircon/heater which is at the other end of the apartment to warm up the space but this did not work nearly well enough. It was warm in the bedroom but cold in the living area and we had to wear our down jackets. The wifi also had a timeout error after about 9:30pm in the evening which ruled the TV out.
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Simon (8/5): Thought we were staying at a B&B as advertised and reviewed on website …very disappointed - Beautifully set out accomodation.
Was warm and very inviting. 3things:
Water pressure in the beautiful bathroom was weak
Coffee machine provided BUT NO coffee pods! (some were later dropped off by housekeeping when host was made aware of it)
Advertised as a bed and breakfast BUT ABSOLUTELY NO BREAKFAST WAS PROVIDED!!
- Peter (10/5): Perfectly located, quiet, well appointed accommodation in Ballaarat - The location is just perfect. Away from the main street, but easily walkable there. Very very quiet at night, not a sound impacting on sleep. And, the bed/mattress is wonderful, high quality. The bathroom is huge, with lots of shelf space, and a large walk in shower. All in all, very highly recommended. There is nothing we didn't like.
- Caitlin (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely incredible stay here! The entire space was beautiful & clean and gave such a cool classic vibe.
- Chrisanta (9/5): Superb -
- Christopher (10/5): Exceptional -
- Debbie (10/5): Lovely comfortable and unique accommodation. Would recommend to anyone -
- Richard (9/5): Great quirky apartment - Nice quirky apartment, well equipped with a nice back yard A little dark unless you open the blind to the street
- Cheri (10/5): Exceptional - Beautifully designed, well thought out - with excellent finishing touches. Super comfortable and immaculately clean. Great location and parking, straight forward process. Thank you. Could have had a few more coffee pods. The salt and pepper shakers didn't work. There could have been a few more little dishes for nibbles. Otherwise - great, the milk frother was a bonus.
- O'brien (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kat (10/5): Exceptional -
- Louise (10/5): Very relaxing stay! - Historic! Full kitchen! Washing machine & Dryer! Very clean! Cute courtyard!
Nice neighbourhood! Very comfy bed! Smart TV ! Comfortable sofa! Continental Breakfast supplies! Bread , milk, Juice, Butter and jams coffee and Teas! Nothing!
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Ronald (7/5): Something Different - Quaint conversion of a store that we had to ourselves. Conveniently near areas of interest (Eureka Centre and Sovereign Hill). Cute backyard. Mattress too soft. "Do not eat on" directive for velveteen couch when stools too low for "snack bar". Chairs too low for comfort. Lack of a dining table.
- Ian (10/5): great for a short stay but could have stayed for 2 weeks - so unique, and in a top location. very different to anything else and we really enjoyed our short stay. Would recommend and would definitely stay again nothing
- Rubyjoy (10/5): Enjoyable. Thanks Ray & Val Francis - Trying to get the TV to work.
- Erin (9/5): Comfortable and pleasant. - It smelt amazing and clean on arrival. The bed was SO comfortable and the overall vibe of the place was one of a kind. The temperature inside was also comfortable for the duration of our stay and we didn’t require to use the air con or heater at anytime.
Checking in and out was easy and hassle-free. The body wash provided was nearly empty so we had to ration it.
- John (10/5): Superbly renovated property is a great option option for visiting Ballarat - Large comfortable bed; bathroom featured excellent shower and washer/dryer; modern kitchen facilities; comfortable living room area featuring large smart tv with streaming options; adequate breakfast items provided; nice garden area Not really walking distance to Ballarat attractions or dining, but generally visitors to Ballarat will have a car anyway and the property is in a nice, quiet neighborhood
- Victoria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alan (10/5): Can highly recommend to any single, or couple looking for a stay in Ballarat - The breakfast was continental style with all needs supplied and fresh ingredients. The facilities were first rate, and a desirable place to stay. unfortunately one night was not enough. No complaints, the accommodation could not be faulted.
- Joanne (9/5): Superb -
- Marianne (7/5): Whilst we did like the ambience we were disappointed with the lack of comfort for a very cold night/day. - Ambiance, location. Comfy bed. Good breakfast. No toilet paper at all. Poor heating on a very cold night. Slippery tiles in shower.
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional - Very clear instructions on self check-in. Very classy place. Clean, spacious, modern. Well stocked with every amenity imaginable including great TV with cable and Netflix. Toilet floor slippery when wet. Must be really careful.
- Ree (10/5): My son and his new wife thoroughly enjoyed their wedding night! - The atmosphere of the property was absolutely beautiful
- Josie (10/5): Beautiful with the comfort of home! -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Craig (9/5): Great Stay at Cash Butcher - Property was exactly as advertised, no surprises. Modern design, everything required for our stay. Suggestion to 'do our best to avoid eating or drinking on our couch'.
- Rebecca (10/5): Lovely - It was lovely and clean, very well finished
- Cindy (9/5): great place to stay would highly recommend - bed was great nothing
- Rosemary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Craig (10/5): Beautifully presented. Roomy, clean and quirky. Historical of the shop was cool. - Great stay. Loved every detail about the Cash Butcher. highly recommended. Nothing. Perfect stay.
- Vicki (10/5): It was so nice to spend time relaxing at the accommodation…as much as enjoying the foto biennale - Provision of basic staples (milk, juice, bread, muesli) Being ‘vertically challenged’, some shelves (storing basic crockery) were difficult or impossible to reach…a ‘small’ problem
- Jo (9/5): 2nd time even better - Quirky and tasteful decor made us feel spoilt. Breakie provided was generous. Nothing
- Brent (10/5): Exceptionally appointed residence. One of the best places we have stayed - Breakfast supplies where spot on - exactly what we were after Nothing. We thought the place was perfect
- Lesley (8/5): Very good - It was very comfortable. Great shower and if you needed to do laundry would have been very handy. Lovely little courtyard seating area. Unfortunately communication on details to check in went missing. While we understand mix ups like this can sometimes happen, it was frustrating and a little stressful to have to try several times to try and get a response over the day we were booked in about specific address details and check in procedure.
Breakfast provisions need to be checked more carefully. Fortunately, we had butter with us for our toast but none was left out (we later found some tucked away in a cardboard box up on a shelf).
- Miss (6/5): Clean and spacious but not homey. - The bed was large and comfy, the bathroom and shower was spacious. The place was very clean. Laundry facilities were a bonus. TV was a good size and with Wifi for Netflix/Disney etc. Carpark right out the front was great.
Location felt private, the peace and quiet was nice! We stayed for a couple days and the room did not get serviced each day. (Not sure if servicing the room each day is a service they offer, but it is expected).
The breakfast was not generous, we found a local supermarket to buy more toilet paper, bread, milk, juice and butter.
Everything felt staged and like we were not allowed to use or touch anything, so we were never at ease. Not a feeling you want when you are on holidays!
