Guest Reviews
- Meta (4/5): Disappointing - I like the location of it. its in a very beautiful place in the jungle. The non-existence of privacy. You can't speak in your room because otherwise people will wake up.
I left after one night because of this, since I would like to speak in my room and be able to do what I want at any given hour of the day. Ended up paying the full amounth since there was no stretch in meeting in the middle, like me paying halve or something..
- Ina (7/5): Very nice jungle experience! - We had a wonderful stay at the lodge! Our room was simple (with just a fan, no air conditioning) but had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We had the entire place to ourselves, which made it even more special. The area is full of howler monkeys, adding to the unique experience. The pool was beautiful, and we loved swimming there each evening beneath the coconut trees. Breakfast was delicious, and the staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Very good WIFI available. As many reviews mention, the road to the lodge is quite a challenge. A 4x4 vehicle is absolutely necessary, and even then, the drive is rather difficult. It's a good idea to bring some food with you, as the lodge does not offer lunch or dinner options. We weren’t aware of this when we arrived around 6 PM, and with the road conditions, there was no way we were willing to leave the property after dark. The nearest restaurant is at least a 20-minute drive away. Unfortunately, we had to skip dinner that night.
- Langeveld (9/5): Superb - It is remote, has a nice eating area and breakfast. We cooked dinner there in the common kitchen. We heard lots of howlers and birds. The road there is rough but that helps keep it remite.
- Kostika (10/5): Magical stay near Santa Teresa - This is such a unique property, the monkeys were there daily. Fantastic breakfast, amazing staff, we had the best time. Highly recommend, this place is magical. Everything was amazing.
- George (9/5): Superb - Pet friendly, surrounded by beautiful nature, delicious breakfast and the service was very pleasant by the hotel staff. Also, Guiso the hotel dog is a beautiful friendly member of the staff. Access is a little complicated in rainy season, recommend mostly by 4x4 vehicle
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - I recently stayed at Star Mountain Jungle Lodge in Mal País, Costa Rica, and it was an unforgettable experience. Nestled in the heart of the lush jungle, this hidden gem immerses you in nature, surrounded by vibrant wildlife. I woke up each morning to the sounds of howler monkeys and tropical birds—a dream come true for nature lovers!
The room was spacious, spotless, and comfortable, providing a relaxing haven after a day of exploring. The room had big windows that let in natural light and views of the jungle. I felt like I was in my own little paradise. The staff went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed, offering tips on nearby activities and arranging local excursions with ease. They truly made me feel at home and added a personal touch to my stay.
Breakfast was a highlight—nutritious and delicious, featuring local fruits, fresh juices, and hearty options. If you're seeking a peaceful retreat with authentic Costa Rican vibes, Star Mountain Jungle Lodge is the place to be. This lodge combines adventure and comfort for a unique, immersive jungle experience. Highly recommend!
- Priscilla (10/5): Amazing experience! - I had an amazing stay at Jungle Lodge Hotel! It's super quiet and private, perfect for a relaxing getaway. The pool area is beautiful, surrounded by lush greenery. There are lots of animals and nature everywhere, making it feel like a true jungle retreat.
The air is incredibly fresh and pure, which made every moment refreshing. The walking trail is fantastic, offering stunning views and a great nature experience. Plus, it's pet friendly, so I could bring my furry friend along.
Overall, a fantastic place to unwind and enjoy nature! Highly recommend!
- Anna (10/5): Beautiful and relaxing experience! I recommend! - The surroundings were so relaxing and beautiful. Beautiful pool.
Getting to the hotel was such a great experience, the feeling of nature and calmness gets better the as you enter the property.
Lovely staff and management, all my questions were addressed efficiently.
Delicious breakfast, I really recommend getting it! Since it was a little hot, the fact that it didn’t have AC is something I didn’t like but it didn’t ruin the experience at all.
- Romain (10/5): Perfect stay with a lovely swimming pool - Everything was perfect, we loved this place in middle of pure nature !
Thank you ! It is a little thing but the wooden doors of the casita are hard to close, they need to be fixed.
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional - The pool is to die for, and the breakfast was excellent.
- Richard (9/5): Superb - The location is very special and the wildlife all around you. It would be nice to have aircon
- Alexea (9/5): Really nice experience! - Really cool property, beautiful views and the amenities were really good. Hard to get to but they are very open about that and with a 4x4 not too bad.
- Hendrik_w (8/5): Very good - Beautiful located in the jungle and really quiet and nice pool. It can be a little bit challenging to get there by car, we did manage even without a 4x4.
- Hugo (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (3/5): Very disappointing - Being in the middle of nature. The pool. Wi fi was not as bad as in the reviews. The size of the hut. The price is reasonable considering the place can hold 5 people. When I booked the lodge I was persuaded by the lovely reviews of people eating the place quite highly. Sadly, I realised too late that these reviews were from 2021 and the experience has changed a lot since then.
The lodge seems abandoned not only by management and staff but also guests. There are some huts around which are not used and in bad conditions. For the majority of my stay I was the only person on the lodge grounds. To add to this, the lack of signal and being in a completely remote location with minimal staff presence didn’t add to my feelings of security. The self check out was the lady who serves breakfast looks very sad. I communicated with the management via whatsapp and my experience was not as hospitable as I have come across typically in CR. It seems that the owner was only interested in receiving the payment and did not give change back.
The location is very very remote.
The hut I stayed in had lots of ants and some mould on the walls as well.
No kettles/coffee makers in the hut. The lodge resort was not lit up at night.
I would suggest paying more to stay somewhere else. There are some great air bnbs and hotels in the area.
- Kateryna (10/5): Paradise - This is paradise hidden in the jungles! Such an unique experience of being immesed in the forest. Very beautiful, stunning property! Lady who cooked breakfast is very nice and manager always responds for all needs via whats app. It is ideal for a big group of people or family to occupy either all 4 rooms or a separate house, because the rooms are not soundproof and also to have more fun walking or driving in and out of that place. In winter sun goes down very early and there is nothing much to do after that, and it is advisable to return to property before sunset, because of the uneasy road which leads to the lodge. The road is a real challenge there, when there was too much rain, even quadbike could not cross. However walking is quite fun advanture! Also needs to be noted that because of the location, there is only one source of internet (their WIFI) and if it goes off due to the weather, there are no other option to be connected and it is far from the mainroad, so books and movies would be handy to take with you.
- Herrlein (10/5): A total must for nature lovers! - I absolutely LOVED star mountain. Such a peaceful, adorable piece of property. The pool area is great, staff was lovely and the price was super cheap + they include breakfast. The jungle air was so fresh and nice. The ambience was lush, clean and pretty. Super recommended!
