Guest Reviews
- David (9/5): Cosy, historical and affordable sums it up very well. - Part of an old farmhouse, modernised sufficiently to be comfortable without destroying its character. Lovely rural setting. A well equipped kitchenette and good wi-fi, plus a few books to read; including the best-seller 'A fortunate life' by A B Facey who as a child had lived in the house.
A convenient location close to Castlemaine, it met our needs for one night perfectly; it would have also suited us for a longer stay. We liked being close to the railway line to watch and hear the trains pass; probably not everyone's cup of tea, but suited us fine.
- Robyn (9/5): Good value for money - Great location. Handy to Castlemaine and the Highway for the trip home. Nice tidy little apartment. No point having a portable hotplate if there is nothing to put on it. Ie no frypan, saucepan etc
- Hiromi (8/5): -
- Mich (2/5): Give it a Miss - Nothing.
I have just received an email to say this was a no show THAT IS NOT CORRECT. Everything It was not at all good.
This is NOT a no show. I was there for 90 minutes and decided to book somewhere else.
I showed up and the key was in the door as per instructions and I entered. It was really horrible, old, rundown with noise not just from the road , whci I knew about but also from the train right behind the property. 3 trains went past when I was there.
Everything was pretty old and worn out, I had to drive acorss their front yeard and down a very narrow driveway that was right besde the fence. You could not turn the car around and so I needed to reverse it any time I left the property. Ater 90 mins I decied not to stay. I did not feel safe. The lighting inside was poor as well.
When I had tried to book months earlier, this property declined my booking even though the property was available, they then raised the price by about $50-$60 and accepted my second attempt at booking.
At no point over the weekend did the property contact me to check in and see if everythingv was alright or maybe why I had not stayed.
So disappointing.
- Gemma (10/5): - Great value, very cute apartment and conveniently located close to Castlemaine.
- Graeme (8/5): -
- Aaron (8/5): Thank you, the accommodation was perfect for our circumstances. Nice cosy place out of town -
- Geoff (5/5): - Part of an historic cottage There was a frost each night and the cottage is poorly insulated and the oil heater in the bedroom/living room struggled, and the kitchenette was freezing in the mornings. The accommodation could be described as cute but not cosy!
- CFM (7/5): -
- Colin (9/5): -
- colleen (5/5): - Quaint property Other people's food in fridge and extremely stained coffee mug
- Monique (10/5): If I need to come up this way again I’d like to book it for longer was only there less then 24 hours. - Was cute and cosy. Clean and comfortable. Close to town. Coming back to a kangaroo in my way to park 🤣 had to shoo it away. (Was not expecting it but should have it’s the country after all).
- Joanne (10/5): Love it, would come back again - So cute and well cared for The train going by… wasnt an issue though. Great spot
- anne (10/5): Great stay. Lovely hosts. Great location. Very comfy. -
- Claire (10/5): -
- Matthew (6/5): -
- Ms S (5/5): OK for an overnighter - Located rural & fair pricing.
Really liked the Little Red Apple Grocer & cidery very close by..
Paul very helpful when we couldn't work out access to the property. A little small/cramped in kitchen & bathroom & the reno a bit thrown together.
On a busy road & near to a train line, but this quietened down at night.
- anne (10/5): Welcoming, cosy, whole apartment, well appointed for self catering. - Great location between Castlemaine and Harcourt. Interesting walks behind the property in the old gold digging sites. An easy walk to the apple shop for cider and groceries. The owners went above and beyond my expectations, as, after finding my gloves, they offered to put them in the dryer for me. Very helpful. I was very happy with the apartment.
- Stephen (10/5): We had a small problem with the electrics but Paul came over very quickly and fixed the proble. -
- Jim (7/5): Fine. - The power cut out during our stay - not for long
- Ian (8/5): Very good - Close to town. Comfortable bed and very cosy with the oil heater on. Road noise, but we expected it from previous reviews.
- Chris (10/5): Highly recommended, far better value than the rest of Castlemaine's overpriced accommodation options - Great place to stay, only five kms out of Castlemaine and accommodation had everything you need for a few days stay in a picturesque location. Very reasonably priced, much better value than most of Castlemaine's very overpriced accommodation options.
Highly recommended if you don't have to stay in central Castlemaine.
- Joseph (1/5): Bad - On arrival to find mosquitos bugs and cobwebs..also a stained linen on the bed..and no heating provided Very disappointed as was a weekend away with my partner
.to.walk in a find mosquito ..cobwebs and stained linen on the bed was appalled not to mention no heating.. severely dissapiointted..do not stay here ..it's a joke
- Pettigrew (9/5): Country cottage close to town. - Comfortable, good heating in main room, plenty of hot water. Kitchen has everything you need . Train track close by with train passing every 20 mins, luckily not all night.
- Matthew (9/5): Great stopover location - Lovely place. Clean and good location. Great communication from the host. Would recpmmend None
- Deborah (10/5): Exceptional. Most enjoyable staycation -
- Robin (10/5): Wonderful place to stay - Lovely little room, with separate kitchen, able to cook our dinner in. Nice & clean older style room, with country charm, saw Rosellas & even Kangaroos.. nice & close to town, but far enough away from town noise, with only the regular train & the odd loud truck would pierce the serenity, but only briefly... Hosts are great, & extremely helpful, price very reasonable... off street parking too !! Definitely recommend & we shall call on them again when next we visit.
- Janet (8/5): Nice getaway and served our needs well - Quaint cottage with lots of obvious history. Good bed, terrific hot water and all very clean. Nothing …. All good
- Haines (10/5): Loved it -
- Andrew (10/5): Loved it all and will stay again. - Loved it all
Bedroom was lovely and a great size and comfortable mattress and bed linen
Kitchen area very compact and workable , really liked it
Nice touch as shampoo and condition and body lotion a great thing.
Super super size bath sheet
Nice porch area with an outdoor couch .
I love trains and it was a super treat to see and hear them passing just at the back of property.
Fantastic all around
Will stay again
- Norman (8/5): Great - Nice farm like feel.
Charming No PowerPoint in the bathroom.
- Grant (7/5): Well worth a look. I’d probably go back again. - Close to Castlemaine and near the railway line which I enjoyed. Property near road which was heavily used and therefore too noisy for me to enjoy the peace of the property.
- Ann (10/5): Cute little cottage for getaway - Great find. A cute little cottage, perfect for weekend getaway. Very close to town. Very clean and comfortable. Has everything you need. Easy, friendly communication with owner.
- Sam (8/5): Very good -
- Pettigrew (10/5): Delightful cosy accommodation in a rural setting. - The apartment was very well set up for a comfortable stay.
The amenities were all clean and suitable.
The distance from Castlemaine was a short, easy drive on an excellent road.
The heater was efficient, even on a 1 degree morning.
The hot water was plentiful and vert hot. The kitchen area, which had the old floorboards was pretty chilly in the evenings and morning. Having a couch in the main room meant I always had a comfortable and heated sitting area.
