Guest Reviews
- chaleka (10/5): - Facilities , tasty food and the staff 's hospitality Yhere was no hotel's phone in my room
- gogontle donald (1/5): Waste of my money. They are very misleading on the booking.com website - Nothing at all Breakfast was once off, and it was 4 eggs, two slices of cheese and 4 slices of white bread stored inside the fridge.
Electricity had to be recharged 3 times whilst I was there. They were buying couchers in small quantity of eskom power, such an inconvenience to walk into a dark house twice. The place had cockroaches everywhere, I even took a picture of such. The bed is so uncomfortable and extremely noisy. I wouldn't recommend this property to anyone who values their wellbeing. I was also a struggle to access the place. The security did not have a clue of the place and the direction as well. I was not told about the parking fee which I only learnt on arrival that a R50 per night amount was needed which ended up as R200 additional amount including breakfast that was only once off which I also learnt after enquiring. The details on Booking.com are very misleading.

- Henri J D lans (1/5): a rip off with a (G)host' that has no clue about hospitality, just going for that bit of money. - the people at reception were super friendly The building used to be the Hallmark House, a lively place with clean rooms and sweet staff!! now the building is totally emptied out, only the 8th floor apartments have some occupancy. The apartment was not clean and had cockroaches, when I wanted to cancel on arrival the offered no money back, just a different apartment on the same floor...
The 'host' has never stayed totally anonymous and only communicated by text.
- Mosa (6/5): -
- Mpendulo (1/5): - Nothing, the place is dirty and full of cockroaches Lots of cockroaches and very dirty
- Ahmed (9/5): -
- Frances Diamond (8/5): It was good. The felt cozy. But the host didn’t come to check us in, we had to climb the stairs from 5th floor to 8th fl - Safe, security is in tight. There are no tiles on the floor. I didn’t realize that whilst booking.
- Mavuso (3/5): The person was helping as on WhatsApp was 100% with as but we didn’t enjoy the staying - Bed Dark place
Use stairs when the is a lift
Take long to open a boom gate
Smelling towels
Cocraoch every where
- Seotsanyana (6/5): It was a comfortable stay - The place was ok in terms of what I wanted to do. I was able to relax and it was secured and safe since I was looking for a safe place for the night Breakfast was dull. Location was ok. I would prefer that there was a proper breakfast or that there was a cafe where one could have had breakfast there. Nevertheless it didn't inconvenience me

- Mashabane (6/5): - The salon downstairs. I found the place dirty with cockcroaches, but the issue was fixed. I didn't receive any breakfast that was supposed to be served. There was a shortage of water, and the lights were deemed. The stairs gave me a challenge with heavy luggage.
- Mashiane (8/5): Warm and cozy apartment with beautiful city views - The hotel room is beautiful The noise that is coming from the bathroom, and they could do with more lighting
- ndlovu (10/5): -
- ndlovu (10/5): - Very friendly host and place was clean , top notch 👌 thank you my guy
- Ike (7/5): - Cleanliness and perfect location for activities around johannesburg There was no parking area for this accommodation, which made me not be at ease during the stay

- Amamda (5/5): I honestly would not book it again but it's a nice place area is not great at all. - The place is arty, nice artwork, its compact enough space for two people. Like the idea of ready to eat breakfast in the room even though breakfast is cereal, which was sad cause i don't eat cereal, but my daughter was happy with it. Appreciated the electric blanket so much. The room lighting isnt great its dark. The location not good at all, it was scary especially at the time i arrived and passage was creepy getting to the room. dark passage made it worse by the green walls. Inside the bathroom light was flickering so we could turn it on. no mats in the room imagine is winter and its like cement floors, the heater wasn't working...
- Sibongiseni (8/5): Very good -
- Águida (8/5): Very good -
- Tintswalo (2/5): Very poor - Can't say specifically what I liked There's no iron, black towels which we can't say for sure if they are clean or not,the dish cloth was not good for kitchen use, the toilet did not have toilet paper, the bed was too small for two adults and lastly accessing the apartment via stairs for the last 3 top floors was a very tiring
- Sibongiseni (9/5): Superb -
- Sebenzile (6/5): Pleasant -
- Londolani (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shaheema (1/5): UNPROFESSIONAL - nothing arrived 3:30. check IN arranged for 4pm and was missed by 40 min, i panicked as no-one answered my calls or messages FROM 3:30PM - 4:40PM , booked other accommodation for my stay in JHB. lost money as no refund was granted. property blamed me for being early.
- Nomthandazo (10/5): Amazing! Definitely coming back again in - Everything! It’s so beautiful 🥹🥹 Stairs 🤭
- Brian (1/5): Bad - We had to use stairs to get to the 8th floor. Fetching orders and going to buy supplies was a nightmare. Breakfast 🤣🤣. Cereal with no milk. The place is infested with cockroaches.
- Zwane (1/5): Bad - Accessing the property its a struggle
- Maggie (1/5): Never again! - Not applicable The owner of the property told me not to go to the reception and ask about apartment. He would get into trouble if I did, this is before we arrived at the apartment.
The Uber driver took us to the apartment and he expressed concerns about the area in which we were in. I felt very unsafe / uncomfortable where the apartment was located. He would not leave us alone there.
We were unable to contact the manager, we spoke to Booking.com, who couldn’t get a hold of the manager and at that point, we made other arrangements.
Between the location of the apartment and the manager being very dodgy about who we could talk to, and couldn’t talk to, I thought it was safer to be out of that environment.
- Mgengo (3/5): Sibusiso is a terrible host - The host is utterly terrible with communication. H e did not answer our calls for 2.5 hours. It felt deliberate. The unit had pests and was not clean.
- William (2/5): Worst stay ever - Apartment was well fitted with everything i needed for my stay. Apartment was full of cocroaches.
Could only use one light at a time thus the room was very dark.
Shower floor had tiles removed.
Did not have access to the elevater going to my apartment on the 8th floor as it is accessed theough biometrics. I only stayed two nights thus i was not loaded for biometrics as you have to stay a minimum of 14days to be loaded on the biometrics system. I thus uad to walk up 8 flights of stairs if i wanted to leave or go to my apartment. This information was also not made available upfront.
- Gomolemo (4/5): Disappointing - Great location and the apartment looks very good. The host was barely available to help us. When we tried contacting him, he took long to respond and sometimes didn't even respond. When booking it said that we would receive breakfast and we did not, why is it still saying that breakfast is included when it's not? We had to pay for parking even though the parking was said to be free. We didn't have access to the elivator, only the stairs which is really frustrating because it's 8 floors. When you book here you are basically on your own if you need help or have enquiries. This apartment only accommodates at least 2 people, if you want to book for 4 people I suggest you try looking else where
- Andreas (1/5): Think carefully about staying here - I don't usually write such long reviews, but this accommodation was the worst in a long time.
The following things were the worst:
1. Communication. Many restrictions on the accommodation only came after booking. I would never have booked with that prior knowledge.
2. Location. The apartment is on the 8th floor and can only be reached via the stairs. Impossible for disabled people.
The area is extremely dangerous - even during the day. Not suitable for newcomers to South Africa!
3. Security: was helplessly overwhelmed by my request for assistance.
4. Moving in: took over an hour due to poor communication
5. Furnishings: Most of the lights didn't work.
The exhaust fan in the bathroom is louder than a siren.
There is neither an AC nor a fan - unbearably hot in the northwest exposure.
6. Cleanliness: my feet were pitch black after a few minutes of walking barefoot.
There were a lot of cockroaches running around the apartment! I even had one in my bed. I killed at least 10 in the bathroom.
After one night I asked for a cancellation and refund - this was refused.
- Nwabisa (4/5): It's ok honestly - The room looked clean and well decorated good views Communication could have been better from the host leading up to check in. Provision was not made for security tags to access room floor which intern caused us to beg the security and other tenants to open for us. The host and security said we should take the stairs as opposed to lift to the 8th floor! Unacceptable! A tenant who over heard this conversation decided to help us.
- Bongumusa (7/5): Property with balcony view of the city life in Doornfontein - The balcony and the view , especially the fact that it’s on top . The interior decor is quite good. It has literally everything you need from washing machine, fridge,, toaster etc. I had to use the stairs coz I was staying less than 14 days in property on the 8th floor.
There was no A/C only relying on natural wind from outside.
The owner was unreachable at times.
The security was not so friendly, only the reception staff.
- Thandile (8/5): Very good - The unit was quaint and clean. Nice city view and the rooftop bar was a bonus. If your stay at the apartment is less than 1 or 2 weeks you don’t get a tag to open the doors once you exit the elevator to go into your apartment. We either had to wait until someone else opened the doors or use the stairs every time. When I first arrived I had to climb 8 stories in order to be able to go into the apartment as the was no other way to get past the doors outside of the elevators to go into the passage that had our unit.
- Kagiso (10/5): Exceptional -
- Moroesi (8/5): Beautiful stay - The location was exactly as advertised...It was also very comfortable and clean, and had an amazing view of the city. We had to wait for some time upon arrival, the host was not picking up his phone.
- Tumelo (7/5): Good -
- Omar (4/5): Disappointing - It is very near the party neighbourhood! Booking Review:
Our stay unfortunately fell short of expectations due to a few issues:
1. The third bed provided was a broken air mattress that was not clean, which made it difficult to use.
2. Breakfast was very minimal, consisting only of cornflakes with milk, which wasn’t sufficient for three guests.
3. Accessing the property was challenging, as we required security assistance to get in.
4. The bathroom was quite noisy, which impacted our comfort.
5. Additionally, there was no floor towel in the bathroom, making it difficult to keep the floor dry.
We believe these areas could be improved to enhance the guest experience.
- Gift (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nomkhosi (7/5): Good -
- Suenett (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ziyad (1/5): Don't waste your money - The pictures are deceiving and there is no water in the apartment until 8 pm, and the landlord's treatment is very bad.
- Geraldine (1/5): Very disappointing - Unfortunately, when I arrived on December 3 night , I was unable to reach you despite multiple attempts. As a result, I was forced to book alternative accommodations nearby.
I only received a response from the host on December 4th, stating he had been sleeping. I then requested to change my booking date, but he informed me that the apartment would not be available on my desired date.
Given the circumstances, I would greatly appreciate a full refund for the original booking as I fully paid and arrived at the property but the host did not let me in The host did not show up and won’t refund me after all the inconvenience
- Nkhensani (5/5): Great space. I don't like that I had to take stairs to get-up to the apartment. Could be cleaner. - There's no 'real' breakfast to speak of. It's cornflakes, oats and milk. Although breakfast is listed on the property. There's also no elevator to take you up to the 8th floor which isn't disability friendly as you can only use the elevator to go down. Don't bring heavy luggage.
- Badu (6/5): Pleasant - Clean I paid for parking R75 but they said parking was free
And I struggled to go to my room cause of stairs
- Thuba (1/5): Bad - I won't recommend the place to anyone, in fact I couldn't wait to go back to my place, it's so noisey and the bed not even my younger daughter use The whole place
- Mahlaola (8/5): Very good - The fact that I had to use stairs to the 8th floor
- Simon (1/5): A never to be repeated booking which is not recommendable!!! - Location and facilities not bad, there is easy access to shops and transport which was good. Apart from that the experience was not good and logistics with host was bad. We had one of the worse experiences with the host and venue. We were three of us, when we made a booking the information on bookings.com said there are three beds, only two find one bed an a sofa. Owner still insisted that bed means sofa. Another scam is that only after booking we are told not to communicate with the reception at the venue and we are told that we have to walk up to the 8 floor using stairs as we cant be granted finger print or any other access to access our room from lifts, Felt like trapped for 3 days as if you had to go to the store you had to think about coming up all the way to the 8th floor using stairs. Host was rude and told us that we are not getting any refund, either we take it or leave it. Also we paid for bed and breakfast only to be told breakfast is just cornflakes which did not have enough milk, owner was arrogant and informed us that is what breakfast means and we can go buy at the restaurant downstairs if we want something fried or anything different. Whole experience was really bad and we only stayed because we were denied our refund but would not recommend this venue to anyone and the owner's hospitality is the worst and he also came to us drunk and kept blaming bookings.com on everything.
- Sanndlovu (9/5): Superb -
- Tlangelani (6/5): The place is nice, the logistics are terrible - It’s decent I completely dislike the process of checking in. It involves several calls to the host and having to meet up with him. Then parking is also another lengthy process.
- Xolani (9/5): A home away from home. - It is home away from home. The cereals provided played a pivotal role. The room was indeed comfortable 👌👌 The blipping sound🙁 from the smoke sensor was so disturbing.
- Thabo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sinesipho (7/5): Good -
- Tervin (5/5): Passable - management behaviour was poor, We were not made feel like we paid for the experience.
- Wiltshire (7/5): Good -
- Guyguy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eva (5/5): Passable -
- Namasiku (9/5): Despite the staircases, my stay was fabulous. I really enjoyed my stay. - Breakfast was fine since its self catering accommodation. So no complaints. They must just work on giving the short stay in guests access to use the elevator, because stairs was a bit of a challenge. I want them to look in to that issue.
- Mahl (8/5): Very good -
- Welliyn (10/5): Exceptional - The design of the place is awesome.
The facility are good The TV is in an unusual place for me
And u have to wash your own dishes but I get it
- Tlangelani (8/5): Very good -
- Boitumelo (10/5): Amazing 😄 - I liked everything the space
The staff was welcoming and the communication was smooth.i would have rate it 1000/1000 I had fun and I was happy.
- Tshidi (8/5): Very good -
- Mpahlele (7/5): 4/10 - The decor of the place & Netflix Once you switch on the toilet lights it makes such a terrible noise and the place is not kid friendly and for me the bed was extremely small ,they had cornflakes but had to purchase our own milk but on the website they said they do provide milk..
- Thulani (6/5): Pleasant -

- Tebogo (8/5): Very good - Everything except the doors that was not opening on 8th floor so I had to use stairs
- Zwivhuyo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thuli (10/5): Exceptional -
- Adrien (7/5): Good - Beautiful decoration, very modern apartment with stunning view on the city. No Loadshedding. The apartment was really hot and difficult to cool down. My washing machine wasn’t working.
- Ongi (10/5): Exceptional - The place is nice and spacious. Well decorated and great view of the city. Nothing at all
- José (6/5): Pleasant -
- Tebogo (8/5): Very good -
- Daisy (3/5): The owner is cheating booking and booking’s clients - The apartment has a beautiful design and decoration but most of the furniture has bad quality. 1- booking told me We would have breakfast. And we didn't. They offer just cocoa puffs & oatmeal. That's not breakfast like we saw in booking . They is in violation of the contract with Booking.
2 - booking told me we would stay in 8th floor of the hotel and have access to the lift. Again the owner is cheating booking and booking clients. We are an old couple (almost 66 years old each one ) and had to climb the 8 floors step during 3 days because the owner said if guests is there less than 15 days, they can't use the lift because we can't make the finger print registration !!!
3- The shower doesn't have good hot water unless you take your shower at the and of a hot day when the water is normally hot because of the sun. Early in the morning the water is almost cold. It's not comfortable.
4- The apartment has a big problem. It doesn't have a drain. The only drain is inside the shower box. The ONLY DRAIN WAS CLOGGED and after my husband had a shower at THE FISRT night the apartment was totally flooded with 3 cm of water all over. So we had in the apartment 2 people other than me and my husband to remove all the water during more than 1 hour at the first day. Later at the same night I went to have my shower and again I had to dry the apartment by myself because the water flooded the apartment again. In the day after the owner sent someone to unclog the drain. So we lost our privacy having people here, we had our things wet, we lost time of our vacation with this . That's not fair .
That must be a chronic problem in the apartment. The owner told us on the night of the flood to turn on the shower tap just a little. And shower with little water to avoid flooding! And there was a bucket and a type of mop on the balcony of the apartment to absorb and squeeze out the flood water. Which must be frequent!
5 - Booking told me we would have a hairdryer. And again the owner is cheating booking because there isn't.
- Asekho (7/5): The stay was okay, the people we met at the restaurant and staff members made it remarkable. Next time definitely bookin - The location is excellent, loved how detailed the apartment and entire venue is. The art work is gorgeous. Stuff members are great. We didn’t have access to the door close to the elevator and needed to contact our host every time, which was a major inconvenience and nuisance. We only had 1 toilet paper for a 3 night stay and one small bottle of milk which only lasted 1 day, so the free breakfast is a marketing gimmick.
- Khethukuthulu (6/5): Pleasant -
- Neluvhalani (9/5): Superb -
- Liepollo (9/5): Excellent location, excellent host, excellent value. - THe host was outstanding. Very responsive and flexible with our check in. Managed to meet us even though we arrived later than we expected after a long drive from another province. The space is really bright and welcoming and really beautifully decorated with artworks. Its small and manageable. Thee was no milk so we couldn't have the cereal /muesli that was offered. We had breakfast offsite. The towels could have been bigger , newer and its best to have seperate hand towel, bath towel and bath mats to avoid slipping. There was no shower gel so we put some dishwasher in there. Would also be ideal to have small body creams, shower gels available esepcially for overnight travellers who might have forgotten them or maybe didnt even expect to be sleeping over. Otherwise a really great host and good stay.
- Belekazi (5/5): Passable -
- Qokile (7/5): Good - Views. Beautiful apartment with lovely artwork A sticky note telling you to wash dishes before you leave
- Zwaneii (8/5): Comfortable Stay - I liked the comfort of the bed and the interior decor I didn't like that there was only one roll of tissue in the bathroom for a week's stay. It's something that should never be in short supply.
- Pokwana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eduardo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Themba (9/5): Superb - The interior design and lack of load shedding The shower door is needed to avoid cleaning up
- Momoza (2/5): This was a stay I wish to forget. - The property has good views. Also the place is stylish and well furnished. 1) when I booked for one night the service fee of R275 was not listed on initial booking. I found out once I paid.
2) when you get to the place you need to wait for host to let you in. If you leave to run errands just know when you come back you have to wait for him to let you in. Such an inconvenience.
3) so I left for interview at 8am, was back by 10 and when I needed to get in and prep for checkout I had to wait for host to let me. He was delayed by 30minutes to 40minutes.
4) as I’m packing to leave, he calls to say if I don’t leave by the next five minutes there’ll be charges. The fact that I was delayed by him was not considered.
6) the host did not take any accountability for making me wait for him thus causing delay in my checkout time. He is inconsiderate and rude.
7)shower is dirty!
8) no proper breakfast, included breakfast is cereal.
- Thabo (7/5): Good -
