Guest Reviews
- Madita (9/5): Highly recommend! - Beautiful view at the city and nice garden and chill out areas 🌳
- Arvinth (9/5): - Excellent location with very flexible and friendly hosts. Highly recommend. Rooms could have been provided with dust bins.
- Noam (8/5): - Very nice place! The stuff was so helpful and nice
The location is good Nothing
- Daniela Camila (10/5): -
- Matteo (9/5): Accoglienza fantastica!
Grazie!!
- Alix (10/5): Perfect homy stay - We had a wonderful stay at Keu Ken. Melina and Max were welcoming and adorable, and their German shepherd Viernes so friendly ! We first came for 1 night and extended to stay 4 nights, as we were feeling very good and cosy. The place and rooms are comfortable and clean. The hostel is slightly uphill (but still only a 10min walk from the center), which gives you an amazing view on the Lago Argentino. Do not hesitate any longer if you come to El Calafate ! Nothing to say. I highly recommend!
- NAMSONG (9/5): Satisfied! - The owner and staff were very kind and helpful, and the view overlooking Lake Argentino was excellent.
The kitchen was well equipped, making it easy to cook, with plenty of utensils and basic seasonings provided.
I would definitely choose this place again on my next visit to El Calafate. Guests should be aware that shampoo and shower gel are not provided.
While it is a bit far from the city center and includes an uphill walk, the stunning view easily compensates for it.
- Ohad (3/5): -
- stephanie (9/5): - saubere Unterkunft, alles da, was man braucht.
- Mark (8/5): Very good - We LOVED our little terrace with a view. Cute little cabin with everything you need.
- Anthony (8/5): Decent stay but not perfect. - The room was spacious and beds were comfy. None of the sockets for charging were secure and the door handles were nearly falling off so locking the door felt unsafe. The price was quite steep for a basic hostel which was a good 15 min walk downhill to the main street.
- Marta (4/5): Disappointing - Garden Beds, bathrooms, small rooms, non-functioning heating, bad coffee
- Vahagn (10/5): Exceptional - Wverything was good Everything i like
- John-thomas (8/5): Very good -
- Laura (1/5): You couldn’t pay me to stay here again, literally. I wouldn’t accept any amount of money to do it. - The staff was nice, but the hostel was terrible. Not a good location, either. Bed was as hard as a rock, absolutely no give and worst night sleep ever. The comforter was old and ripped up and didn’t seem clean. The room had paint chipping off the walls, a weird smell, doors that didn’t latch, and a light that just didn’t turn off. We were scheduled to stay for 2 nights but bailed after the first one and called it a loss. And of course, they would not discuss a refund for the second night not stayed. Don’t be bamboozled, just don’t stay there. Everything
- Jan (9/5): Great stay in a family hostel - I am normally not a fan of hostels or shared-space accommodations. However I Keu Ken provided such a pleasant experience that I cannot do anything else but praise this place. Highly recommend! One particular guest (elderly man) was not exactly respectful to others within the shared bathroom.
- Thomas (8/5): Very good -
- Kupferman (6/5): Pleasant -
- Thomas (8/5): Very good -
- Anezka (9/5): Comfortable and chill - Super nice and chill hostel a bit further away from the center, which was a benefit for me. The dorms are a bit small but very comfortable, with lockers and nice sheets. The bathrooms are clean and the kitchen is very nice with all appliances needed. The staff is super nice and organizes special-themed nights for the guests. It is not a party hotel but I had the chance to become friends with a couple of people.
- Ian (9/5): Great. Super friendly owners. Highly recommended - Yasmin was super helpful. Had a relaxed friendly vibe. Nothing
- Harshalpattni (7/5): Good - It's a decent place but they could do a lot better. The shower - it's either flaming hot or ice cold like the glacier. Very annoying. Also, hardly any pressure.
Not the most convenient bed if you get the lower bunk. Less than average breakfast. The toilets on the men's side - only one of them could be locked out of 3.
- Benjamin (10/5): The greatest Hostel in El Calafate! - 3 nights in El Calafate. Me and my cousin were welcomed by Ornella who was great! A little misunderstanding put us in the wrong room, but it was solved immediately.
The whole team was great, helpful and many services are available. From the excursions you can order from the Hostel, to the breakfast, the free access kitchen, the bar... There is not much you can't find at Keu Ken.
On saturday we had a big assado with Jasmine the boss of the place. We had one of our greatest nights in Argentina! Thanks again to Jasmine and all her team from the frenchies! Nothing wrong. Maybe the location. You have to go up a little hill to get there but nothing too serious.
- O (1/5): Bad - When I arrived in the evening price was more than double of what the confirmation on booking indicated.
They told me in an arrogant way to go to another place if I wouldnt like to pay double.
- Are (2/5): Way too expensive in the high season -
- Ping (8/5): Very good -
- Lynn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jolien (8/5): Very good - Very helpful and kindly staff
- Filomena (8/5): Very good - Really nice vibe. Almost felt like family, we stayed twice before and after el Chalten. I also liked, that it is not a party place but just the right amount of sitting together exchanging your adventures and quiet enough to be fit the next morning.
- Matheus (8/5): Very good -
- Patricia (7/5): Good -
- Christian (9/5): great place to stay -
- Herb (6/5): Pleasant - Nice view , close to a really big supermarket. 10% surcharge for a credit card ' because everyone does it in el calafayte ' is not a good reason. It's just profiteering. The only place in Argentina that did this to me.
- Keshav (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing staff, wonderful location with a view of the Argentina Lake. Very clean and cozy
- Jang (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing vibes! very social environment and great staff! Martin & Sophie are sweethearts and make you feel very welcomed.
- Luis (9/5): Superb -
- Nur (4/5): basic and value for money is good - it’s a cute house vibes and a garden and a deck to sit and have your coffee. The price is good for the room, 4 bed dorms and quite clean. They were doing construction works in the bedroom next to the room I stayed in very early in the morning. the hot water in the shower is extremely hot that will burn you and cold water pressure is so low so it’s very difficult to have a shower. the small breakfast spread is basic and coffee runs out very quickly. the staff could be nicer. the location is on a hill about twenty minutes walk from the town so it is not very easy to get there and back by foot
- Lora (8/5): Very good -
- Tsimerman (8/5): Very good -
- Pablo (9/5): Superb -
- Takeyuki (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amundarain (9/5): Superb - The views were incredible but ofrece course to have that you need to go up the slope. A bit further away drom the center.
- Markus (9/5): Superb -
- Johannes (9/5): Absolutely loved it here, cozy atmosphere and awesome breakfast and super helpful staff - Breakfast and friendly+helpful staff Beds are pretty low for tall people; no installed soap in male bathrooms
- Hannah (8/5): Good breakfast, quiet spot in the town with views of the lake - Good views and location a little away from the town - suited me. Cosy communal areas. Good breakfast. Towels appreciated. Helpful staff. Need more plugs in the room and individual lights. Lockers very small and bottom bunk is small to sit up in but larger beds may not fit the rooms?
- Ben (8/5): Very good - Good breakfast, stunning views of the lake Lockers in the room were too small to put any bag in.
- Jamie (4/5): Charges the blue dollar rate (expensive) - Nice hostel everything as u would expect, good breakfast The rate they charged was the blue dollar rate which was more than double the price of my previous night in el chalten for a hostel that is pretty near identical in standard.
- Dennis (2/5): Unfair pricing - The staff were helpful and friendly. Beware this hostel charges the MEP rate, which is the only one during my travels in Argentina I've encountered that does this. This means you can expect to pay 2,5x the price of other comparable hostels in the city. Because I just came from Puerto Natales (Chile) I didn't know this. Also as others have mentioned the bunk beds are so low you are bound to bump your head and the locks in the bathrooms don't work. I would recommend others to find another hostel in the city.
- Christina (2/5): !!!Caution: overcharge because hostel uses a different exchange rate than booking!!! - Nice view to the lake, tours can be organized through the hostel - !!!Overcharge!!!: after you've booked via booking.com you will receive an E-Mail that they use the MEP dollar exchange rate. This means that they use a different rate than booking.com and you will have to pay more than the double price of Argentinian peso that is shown by booking.com!!! Unfortunately we just found out the next day because some other travelers had the same issue, but the hostel refused to give us the overcharged money back.
- 1st room smelled humid an there was a mushroom growing on the wall (no kiddig, wasn't mold that I am talking about), 2nd room was okay
- floor and one of the blankets were quite dirty
- included breakfast has a low quality for argentinian standards (we traveled already for 4 weeks through Argentinia
- staff seems unmotivated and is not really friendly
- it was our worst hostel experience by far on 4 weeks Argentinia, there a definitely better places for the money
- Stacey (8/5): Very good -
- Hannah (10/5): Clean, friendly, cozy hostel that I would stay at again anytime - The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating! I had to put together my boxed bike, they allowed me to use a large space on the porch to do this. Everything was good
- Jing (9/5): Superb - Everything is perfect, supermarket is close to the hotel. a little bit far away bus station, about 30 mins walk.
- Fernanda (10/5): Exceptional - Great atmosphere.... everything was great
- Franco (3/5): Poor - - cosy living room
- good service & reception (they also organise tours to the glacier) - breakfast: very minor breakfast and if you come in the last hour, most is not available anymore (eg fruits)
- room: we were staying in the separate room and the heater smelled like gas the entire time. We did not dare to use it so it was freezing cold in the room (we ended up sleeping in our sleeping bags in addition to the sheets because it was so cold)
- Dae (1/5): I highly don't recommed this hostel. - you can sea lake view. but window is not clean. It's more expensive than other hostels near hear. Especially, considering the facilities and location. (this hostel is not applied official exchange rate so before booking you must checked price.)
In my case, the door is broken. And the staff fixed the door and key, but it is still hard to open and close the door.
- Kirill (9/5): Superb - Good atmosphere, clean, lovely staff, feels like home and family Bathrooms
- Etienne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gerharddp (10/5): Exceptional -
- -dns- (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alex (8/5): Very good - Great facilities and helpful staff, located near to the centre of town. Kitchen was lovely and breakfast good!
- Stephen (7/5): Excellent staff, surprised about the rooms. - The staff were so helpful and lovely, breakfast was good too and the facilities (kitchen & bathrooms) were great. When we arrived we found out the doors to our rooms didn't have locks on them which was a concern. Our door didn't actually close either it was broken. The staff were apologetic and managed to fix the door enough to close it but I wish I had known before we booked that there wasn't locks on the doors. El Calafate is a safe area and we didn't have any issues with our belongings but it did make us a bit uncomfortable and nervous.
- Aaron (10/5): Exceptional - amazing hostel. super friendly staff, great views, wonderful atmosphere. absolutely recommended!!
- Naoya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cotes (10/5): Feels like home - The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Showers are too hot or too cold, I couldn't warm up the water in the shower, and pillows are not comfortable either, they need to be changed.
- Matthew (9/5): Very comfortable - Rooms were warm with own heater. Beds comfortable. Clean. Nice shared room but no couches or comfy seats. Kitchen good. Staff nice and helpful. Mens showers were either boiling hot or cold. This meant I couldnt shower properly the whole time I was there. They do not seem to be fixing this, it has been a problem for a long time. 15 minute uphill walk from town. Breakfast was very average.
- Hectorzamora (10/5): Great value for money, clean and quiet spot in Calafate - The view to Lago Argentino, sun deck and yard with BBQ facilities. Late check-in can be a life-saver and the whole place is always quiet so you can get a good night's sleep. Well-equipped kitchen, common areas on the ground floor are nice - surrounding a classic Patagonian fireplace. Upstairs there is a work area with plenty of outlets. The whole place was cleaned every day, and the bathrooms are spacious (each has several toilets and shower halls) there are two upstairs and two on the ground floor. The staff was kind and helpful - if you get to be here when the owner cooks you are in luck!
- Thomas (2/5): Very poor - Nothing. Nithing
- Thomas (5/5): Nightmare in the hostel - The common spaces was nice and the dog who slept front if the door. We have the worst nigth in our journey with my girlfriend. We slept a guy and a dutch girl. The girl in the middle of the night start jelling with me, why I am snoreing, but the other guy was that. All of the night she is kicking my bed and swear. We did not sleep nothing. At the morning we had a program and after that night we did not have time to talk and fix it with the staff. All day we did not have any cellular, just booked quickly another hostlel. We arrived back at 20:00 and the staff was not understanding and we had to pay this night too…no empathetic
- Kim (10/5): very good - very nice all the thing
- David (7/5): Good -
- Jennifer (10/5): Best stay in Patagonia - Probably the best hostel in Patagonia, it’s like a big house, warm and cozy, with a super lovely staff! The hostel is super clean, not too big, easy to meet others travelers or just to get some rest. The garden and the view on the city are quite amazing!
They also offer breakfast until 10, fresh towel (so nice when you travel for a long time with your synthetic towel) and the wifi is good! I was supposed to stay 2 nights and I finally stayed there 6 days. :)
You can also book lot of tours direct from the reception, it’s the same price than downtown. They give you really good advices about the city and the area.
- Gabriel (8/5): Great stay at El Calafate - Everything was excellent overall, the staff's attention and the views of the Argentino Lake really stood out to me. Also, it’s only 5 mins walk to La Anónima convenience store, which may help you if you want to prepare yourself in the hostel’s kitchen. Highly recommended! I did have some trouble controlling the shower temperature, and it would be helpful if there were more universal electric connections available. I still recommend I Keu Ken!
- Olivia (9/5): Really friendly staff and relaxing communal space - Really nice communal space. Clean rooms and bathrooms. Nice breakfast. The kitchen is shut from 1830 daily - which is clear on their information - but means you have to eat early. Nothing
- Daan (9/5): Superb -
- Lital (10/5): if you want your trip to El Calafate to be perfect- go to I keu ken - since the minute we arrived till the minute we left we had a big smile on our face. the hostel was so pretty and cozy, the staff was amazing. made El Calafate a dream :) nothing ;)
- Melanie (10/5): Wonderful small hostel with the best staff - I Keu Ken has a really warm and familiar atmosphere and you feel welcome from the first moment you enter. The owners and staff are super helpful with booking tours and other things to do. The dorms are comfy and the whole place is kept really clean. The kitchen is very well equipped and only closed on those evenings when they offer a hostel dinner (the asado was incredible and plentiful!), the common are is comfortable and you would always find someone to socialize after a hiking day. Breakfast is basic but good and it’s nice to have the big table to sit around.
Big plus is obviously the view of the lake, especially when sitting on the porch with a sunset beer or wine!
We really liked the location, it’s a short walk to the town center but there is also a big supermarket right around the corner.
Hot showers and good wifi - since I know that’s what people want as well :) I read about the doors in the bathrooms not properly closing, that’s true in the upstairs female bathroom. But it’s really not a big issue and I’m sure eventually I will be fixed.
- Julijan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ambrose (9/5): An excellent place to stay. - The staff was very welcoming. I stayed for supper which was a family gathering and it was like being at home. It was rather a long walk to the bus stop
- Franz (8/5): Very good -
- Ruben (9/5): Superb -
- Jayne (1/5): Bad service. - I had a confirmation and then they reminded the confirmation. Since I had a confirmation the should have found a place for me.
- Ryan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sonia (7/5): Good - Staff were very helpful and friendly. Bathrooms very tired but hot water was great!
- Naiomi (10/5): Had a great time - thank you! - Loved the option of having dinner at the hostel if wanted. The staff were all so welcoming and helpful with recommendations. I found them very helpful when organising excursions also! Breakfast was also nice! Location is slightly outside of centre, however only takes approximately 10-15 minutes to walk to the high street. The view of the lake certainly makes up for the location!
- Henrik (7/5): Good - The hostel is located on a hill which comes with an awesome view of Lago Argentino. Even if you don’t have any plans you could just easily chill in the garden and enjoy a beer with a beautiful sunset. The staff was super friendly and very welcoming, they helped you out with any question and offered dinner and asado few times a week for a reasonable price. The dorms and bathrooms appeared to be pretty basic. All doors did not close well, which lead to continuous banging of the doors due to the wind which could be easily fixed. Lights in the bathroom did not work well either and the water was very hard to regulate in the showers. The bunk beds in the dorms were shaky, you could instantly feel every small movement of the one being above you and there were no possibilities to drop stuff next to your bed and too few power outlets. Furthermore it’s only possible to use the kitchen from 11:30am until 18:30. With just few fixes and efforts this hostel could improve a lot.
- Roland (10/5): Exceptional - Definitely one of my best stays in South America. People working there are very friendly. Especially Miranda who grew up in that area and organized an amazing trip to Perito Moreno for me. You can also have a dinner at this hostel for a decent price.
Highly recommended!
- Bradley (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly staff, good location and wifi. Delicious dinner and breakfast at the hostel. privacy curtains for the beds
- Donna (9/5): I loved staying at I Keu Ken and I hope to return one day! - it was incredibly welcoming, like visiting old friends it wasn’t a problem for me but it’s a bit of a walk out of town
- Chloe (9/5): Beautiful homely hostel - The hostel is a really beautiful and welcoming space. As pictured, the shared dining/living area is a lovely place to eat or hang out. The staff are soooo friendly and welcoming- lots of smiley faces all round which is a big part of the hostels charm. The place is very clean, with rooms and bathrooms cleaned very regularly, with helpful touches like soaps, shampoo and hand towels always available. Personal towels are provided free of charge. The rooms have lockers and there are heaters in each room. There is a communal dinner on offer for a reasonable cost each evening and breakfast is included in the price of the room, including juice, coffee, toast, medialuna and fruit. We really enjoyed our stay here and really recommend this hostel.
Just as an FYI- the hostel kitchen is available to use only between 11am-6pm as it is used for breakfast and dinner in the hours before and after
- Todd (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anna (9/5): Superb -
- Rosemary (8/5): Very good - Really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and helped to organise tours. Hostel was kept very clean. Lovely breakfast provided and they also cook amazing food and prepare lunches at a fair price. Close to supermarket. There is also an amazing view of Lago Argentina from the hostel.
