- Catherine (2/5): Dirty over priced house- avoid. - Location is ok but quite a long walk if you want to get to St Kilda Beach (50 minutes) Please avoid booking this house. I had read the two previous reviews and could see they were not great but i looked at the reviews on AIR BNB and they were good ( I now assume that they have to be fake reviews?) We travelled from London to Melbourne for a family Christmas. We have been planning this trip for over 12 months. The house was expensive to rent but the pictures appeared to suggest that the house was of a good standard. It is not, to be honest it is very tired and grubby throughout and the sofa, chairs etc are filthly- they need replacing not cleaning!! If you are going to charge what we were charged then people expect a better standard of fittings. The whole house felt dirty. The carpet in the back bedroon was threadbare and had been eaten very badly by moths. In fact the house has a moth infestation- I killed at least 20 carpet/cloth moths on the first night. I compared to Gary the owner who clearly knows the house is filtlhy and the fittings all need replacing and painting as the previous reviews had complained to him. He did nothing and has offered no apology or any kind of refund. Please do not rent this house as you will be very disappointed.
- Ben (7/5): Cleaners need to do better. Beddings and main couch needs a deep clean. Property overall needs tlc for fittings and fin - Good location. 8min walk from Balaclava Main Street and shops
3 bedder with a separate living space that has a sofa bed - not completely private as it adjoins the kitchen and main living area so whoever is sleeping there will be disturbed The overall cleanliness . Couch had many stains . Could do with a deep clean. The sofa bed and linen provided was simply dirty. We found food crumbs as we folded it out. The linen left on the shelving beside it was stained . Not sure if that was unintentionally left out but if unintentional then it should have been packed away ao no confusion (and in which case new linen needs to be provided as an alternative). I had to put the linen in the washing machine and dryer before I could use it that night.
Otherwise the linen and bedding in the 3 main bedrooms were fine.
Overall property: fixings fittings needs fixing or updating (toilet roll holders broken, downstairs toilet-sink turns on too powerfully and water splashes all over the floor, man bedroom French doors is broken at the bottom - bits of wood chipped off and metal fixing is loose- and is exceptionally hard to close if opened, bbq needed cleaning (grease from last use).
However we got a good price for 4 nights over new years which worked out to be $450 per night for 8 ppl, so based on price, all things considered it was ok.
- Stuart (9/5): A great place for a long weekend for large parties in a quiet street yet close to all amenities. - The property had everything a group of 7 adults could want. Small touches like being provided with coffee capsules, tea bags and sugar were really appreciated. A quick walk to the Main Street gives access to trains and trams and to some great cafes and bars. There wasn’t much to fault.
- Nick (1/5): Terrible - Unfortunately the house does not live up to the description - it is not Terrific rather it is Terrible, so much so that we refused to stay. On arrival it became apparent that the property was run down and had not been cleaned. The first indication of this was a broken suitcase left in the front room, the sofa looked like a) it had seen better days and b) could clearly do with a deep clean, the bin in the kitchen had also not been cleaned. In addition to all this the house is run down as exampled by the rotten wood in the French windows in the main bedroom. Finally the finishing touch of a bare mattress left on the landing was indicative of how the house was presented. The owner/agent of the property @garycopolov (also on Airbnb) has been a nightmare to deal with, refusing to rebate payment. I cannot stress enough that this property should be avoided, it’s a shame I can only load 4 pictures. I understand that this isn’t his only property and while I have no knowledge of these, on the basis of my experience if you have any issues don’t expect a happy resolution.
