Guest Reviews
- Rebecca (10/5): An unforgettable place to stay. - This was the most amazing experience. Staying in the rainforest was just what we hoped.
The guides wete excellent, especially Carlos whose knowledge of wildlife and the area was amazing. We loved exploring the area by boat and kayak and visiting a local farm. We saw so many birds and animals with the help of the guides and managed to get some great photos.
The staff were super helpful and made our stay really special. The room was spacious and comfortable with everything we needed.
The food was excellent and we particularly enjoyed the breakfasts. Nothing

- Markus Andreas (9/5): Good location for one or two days - Staff, location, breakfast Not a lot of meal choices, pretty expensive
- Noemie (10/5): Au top 👌 - Le personnel au petit soin. L’emplacement. Les activités. La nourriture. Les excursions. Tout était parfait! Rien

- Elad (10/5): -
- Tal (10/5): Great experience - Big and very well organized , Stuff was super nice.
Tours were very very good Nothing

- cathy (9/5): - Locatie
- Moshe Hardi (9/5): - the location, good restaurant and fine food, beautiful place, nature at its best. short spa hours and very expensive tours compared to booking your self.

- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional - Really an incredible location. The staff was also amazing.
- Rob (10/5): Beautiful place and no where better than Tortuga Lodge to see it from. Friendly staff and great guides. -
- Paul (4/5): Disappointing - Good location but it had been raining heavily so some of the jungle trails were closed and other activities were not available I got food poisoning so did at least one other person in another party. We only ate at the hotel so it was definitely here where we were poisoned
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Leslie (9/5): Exceeded our expectations - The food was exceptional! Delicious and creative. Enrique who runs the kitchen was amazing, he knew our names at our first meal. A couple of our hotel room doors had gaps at bottom when hi gs could get in.
- Lochlann (10/5): Exceptional -
- Harding (10/5): We’ll be back during turtle season - Everything but especially the warmth of the staff and the fantastic rooms and outlook , the food is wonderful (best ice creams and pancakes in the world!)
- Markus (7/5): Good - Friendly and helpful staff. Location on canal, right across from. Airstrip. Room was very basic. Definitely missing a table or desk and a proper wardrobe. The self built shelf in the bathroom was a little too basic in this pricerange.
- Gordon (8/5): Very good -
- Harpreet (8/5): Perfect! - Location! Perfect! So peaceful!
- Alain (10/5): 3 fantastic nights at Tortuga Lodge - Great location, spacious room, beautiful garden full of animals (sloth, monkeys, iguanas). Food is very good (all fresh), Staff is super friendly, with a special mention for all the guides (Juan, Jayjay, Miguel). Fantastic 3 days nothing
- Riccardo (10/5): Best place to stay at Tortuego NP. - It is a perfect resort, which has fulfilled our expectations. A lovely place - not on the main road, as you need to plan with a 1-1,5h boat trip (eg from Pavona with Pavona Jungle Expeditions - a fast & good service), but once you are there, you are in the middle of Tortuguero National Park. We enjoyed a morning guided boat trip to discover the park and attended a „turtle nesting“ evening offer (a very unique experience, which comes with a price of about 90 USD p.p. - well, there are not many places in the world, who offer such wildlife wonders). By our own - with a free boat transfer from hotel to Atlantic beach - we were lucky see a few young turtle hatching.
Food and service was good - as in all Böëna resorts - also, thanks to the excellent roam service!
On top, we liked an initiative of the hotel, who offered trash bags: we only walked 10 min at the beach und the big 100l bag was filled with plastic waste… Nothing, but…(more a joke: all Böëna hotel seem to play the exact same playlist of chilled US cover songs…I know the playlist by now…music taste is different, but more diversity/variety would be cool or play local CR music)
- Brogan (10/5): Incredible experience with amazing customer service and beautiful rooms - The property was really modern and the service was incredible! The staff couldn’t do more for you and they went above and beyond.
The tours they offered were incredible also!
We went on our honeymoon and it was an amazing experience - we couldn’t recommend more!
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anton (10/5): Had a magnificent time at the lodge. Manuel, our guide was extremely knowledgeable, courteous, helpful. - The room was extremely clean, spacious, comfortable, quiet, great view, comfortable bed, great shower We liked everything
- Aleksandr (9/5): Superb -
- Charlotte (9/5): Beautiful setting. Highly recommend! - Beautiful location and staff were friendly. Very well maintained and clean. Pool area was lovely. The balcony area outside our room was very nice and a great place to relax. Felt that the tours arranged through the hotel were rather expensive. Had to reserve a time for dinner (not a problem) but had to pre-order what we wanted to eat - I’d prefer to be able to decide at the time we were eating ideally. A coffee machine in the room would have been a great addition.
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dan (10/5): Gorgeous hotel nestled next to national park. Very helpful staff and lots of nature. - The staff were amazing - so helpful especially as we booked last minute. The property is gorgeous and the pool and the trails were great to use. Very comfortable rooms. Lots of nature. Food was also really good. Only thing is you have to pay for the boat transfer to the property, personally I think for the price of the room the boat transfer to and from Caño Blanco should be included.
- Konrad (10/5): If Mother Nature would stay in the jungle it would be this place. - It is difficult to describe how great this place is. Piece of heaven in the heart of jungle. Amazing rooms - basic but clean, bright and matching the place. Great surroundings - basically full jungle experience in the hotel) iguanas and other animals round you. Perk is boat shuttle (1 min) to airstrip and beach. Nothing can be said here - all was perfect
- Luis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michal (8/5): Very good -
- Kirsten (10/5): Absolutely loves this resort, one of the highlights of our trip. - This pace is amazing! So much animals to spot, lovely staff, great food. We had an excellent time. The transfer was a bit expensive so our driver organised one at a fraction of the cost.
- Santiago (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ana (9/5): Tortuguero y a magical place - Hoyle is very nice and clean. Staff super attentive. Food is also good I felt that extras: food, drinks and activities, are expensive
- Sebastian (9/5): Absolutely incredible. Exceeded all our expectations. - The facilities were amazing. All of the staff are incredibly friendly and provided such a personal experience for us, learning our names and going above and beyond for our honeymoon. The fact that you have access to jungle walks on the property is great. The tour guides were extremely knowledgable and friendly. Shout out to Miguel who took us on the twilight walk and the boat trip for providing all the facts and trivia!
- Nicholas (10/5): Would stay again in a heartbeat - Location, staff made this stay exceptional We loved it all
- Sonja (8/5): Great place in nature but in our opinion all in all not worth the money - Quiet location, nice pool and restaurant area. Great food at the restaurant. Activities offered were very expensive. The food offer was ok, but would not recommend it for a longer stay, would run out of options pretty fast. Hotel is far away from any other hotels or restaurants. Transfer was tough and really expensive.
- Sanela (10/5): excellent property regarding food and facilities - everything was top but the meals were fantastic , they cook very very well you have to it here; the room was great and clean, pool excellent, the trails at the property amazing the guide provided by the hotel; i am sorry we booked the tours through the hotel they are very expensive and don’t worth at all, book in Tortuguero village and go in cerro hike without a guide , don’t waste your money on a guide as he is not helping at all
the transport provided by the hotel too expensive , go for public boats are super safe and only 8 usd from La Pavona to Tortuguero village and from Tortuguero village take a boat taxi for 6 usd to the hotel
- Joseph (10/5): Exceptional -
- Parimal (9/5): Superb - Lovely site, a boat ride away from Tortuguero town but doesn’t feel too far. Lovely room, felt sunny and bright. Range and flexibility of food options were a nice surprise Food and drink options were very expensive
- Christina (9/5): Superb -
- Anisha (10/5): Exceptional - Idyllic location, wonderful staff and exquisite food. Activities and excursions are overpriced but the morning boat tour was fantastic. Overpriced activities when compared to local companies who offer same tour for far less
- Andrea (10/5): Perfect!! Totally recommend it! - Loved it! I found everything perfect! The hotel is really comfortable, our room was pretty big and all of the staff simply lovely (especially Sulay really helped us with everything) I recommend staying at least two days and dedicate at least one to only enjoy the hotel :)
- Sandra (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (9/5): A great experience with helpful staff and a clean room - Breakfast was amazing No soft chairs in the room. River views were stunning
- Caroline (10/5): Truly a unique experience and wish we had stayed longer - Stunning views, comfortable beds (no proper twins, king plus single but fine) Saw plenty of critters around the grounds. Food exceptional. Chose from
Menu a few hours before. Good value with full board Liked everything.
- Maria (9/5): Wonderful place and stay - Beautiful and cosy rooms, amazing food and very friendly staff. Excursions a bit pricey.
- Ryan (9/5): Fantastic location with very friendly staff. Everything felt high quality from the excursions to the rooms to the food. - Loved the location, staff, and variety of activities. Room was recently updated and very comfortable. The food was surprisingly great and creative. Having the trails available for use at the back of the property added a lot to the experience! The approach to their beverages felt out of place versus the rest of the experience. Very nickel-dimey, with everything other than water or coffee having a fairly steep charge $6.50-$15 per drink.
We didn’t know this, so on our first lunch (included in the cost of the room) I suddenly had a $15 bill for a lemonade and iced tea.
I’d suggest they make their non-alcoholic drink prices more transparent.
Otherwise the stay was amazing!
- Fernanda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Indira (10/5): We loved our stayed. The staff was super accommodating. The tours were expensive. The lodge is very comfortable - The food was amazing
The staff is outstanding Nothing
- Iris (10/5): Amazing - Everything
- Benedetta (10/5): Fabolous! - Amazing property, every detail is carefully taken care of and the food is very good! Staff and guides are always really helpful and happy to tell you about the area and their culture. Best stay in our trip so far
- Sandra (9/5): Turtle nesting goal achieved - one ticked off the bucket list - The staff were so friendly and helpful . The property is so beautifully located and actually managed to see turtle laying ; camouflaging and a failed attempt at nesting and return to the sea . The early morning 2 hour tour was exceptional The pool area a bit underwhelming but not really what you are there for so not a big problem. I also feel the transfers are ridiculously priced
- Stuart (9/5): Lovely place, lovely people, highly recommended if you have the budget !!! - Great location, hotel in really nice condition, fantastic food and service. Great trips and guides. Trips massively overpriced for the time spent - happy to pay the price at this end of the market, but expect to get more for the premium price - too short and only go where all the other trips go to…. That said, Christian, our guide for our trips was brilliant !!
- Alessandro (9/5): Superb -
- Elizabeth (10/5): A wonderful hotel I would highly recommend. - What a Traditional, beautiful Costa Rican stay. we really enjoyed the whole experience of staying at Tortuguero Lodge from the Hotels boat transfer in, to the delicious food which was literally waiting for us on arrival. The hotel arranged two trips for us, the twilight walk through their own trail which was stunning and we saw snakes, frogs and spiders. Then also a morning boat tour around the national park where we saw sloths, monkeys and caiman. The hotel itself is beautiful and kept ver clean all in all I would highly recommend! One recommendation as oppose to a complaint, I would definitely always like to see a coffee machine in room.
- Balazs (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (9/5): Understated luxury in sumptuous tropical location - Great location. Modest luxury in the middle of the jungle with abundant wildlife. Staff were mostly from the surrounding area and were gracious and proud of their community and efforts to maintain sustainable tourism.
- Erith (9/5): Superb -
- Sarah (9/5): Superb - we loved the location of the property and the staff were all wonderful.
- Clemens (10/5): Exceptional -

- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andy (10/5): excellent and memorable - location, pillows which were exceptionally comfortable . kayak tour was the highlight nothing
- Christian (10/5): A great place to experience Tortuguero National Park. - Fabulous location, excellent service from friendly staff, great food…basically everything was great. (nothing to dislike)
