• Carolynne (6/5): Great location and spacious rooms but overpriced and needs a little TLC - The hotel is in a great location near the main shopping area. Lots of cafes and restaurants nearby and a train station across the road. The room was huge! The bed was big and comfortable although the pillows were pretty uncomfortable and you only get 1 pillow each unless you ask for more. The bathtub was a great addition and was huge also. The shower was great, bathroom very spacious and had all the amenities we needed including a really good hairdryer ladies! Breakfast was really disappointing though. Small selection and just boring and basic. The staff don't speak english very well and it was hard to communicate what eggs we wanted. The food was just ok but for a Langham hotel I was disappointed with the quality of the breakfast. It was average but there was enough to find something we could eat. Certainly not their strong point. The hotel also lacked the sort of service and attention to detail that I know Langham for. The staff spoke little english and their customer service was below average. We had an issue that we needed help for but the front desk staff were not very interested in helping and did not provide the level of care or service we were hoping for. Although the hotel is in a great area and the rooms were lovely and comfortable, it lacked any other facilities other than a breakfast room.

• Joel (4/5): Do not recommend. - Excellent location. Good bed. The staff have no understanding of hospitality. We raised two issues and the resolution process was difficult and inappropriate. For one issue, the hotel staff gave us a puzzle from the gift shop which is very odd. Then for another issue, they changed our room in the middle of the night. The AC doesn’t work, it is a ventilation system, there is no cooling. I do not recommend this hotel especially in the summer.

• Nina (9/5): Beautiful historic hotel in a fantastic location - Beautiful old hotel, fantastic location very near the People’s Park and Nanjing Road. Very extensive breakfast buffet and you can order some fresh hot dishes. My room was upgraded on arrival which was a pleasant surprise and the bathroom was incredible! Some of the decor was a little tired particularly the soft furnishings.

• Ming (8/5): Charming Art Deco style in great central location - I chose this hotel for its historic past and Art Deco style, and for the central location. It did not disappoint on these things - charming, original decor, and very convenient for exploring Nanjing Road, the Bund, and Shanghai Museum on foot, and for reaching other parts of the city easily from People’s Square Metro (Exit 14) across the road. The bed was spacious and very comfortable. My package did not include breakfast, but it could be purchased at a reasonable price. I’d happily stay here again for the above features. The room decor, though charming in style, is somewhat tired; carpets etc could do with a refurb. There was no armchair in my room, just an upholstered desk chair, not suitable for relaxing. Could not control the aircon - a manual would be helpful, as nothing I did seemed to alter it. I appreciated that fruit was provided in my room, but it wasn’t very fresh or appetising (basic apple, pear, mandarin with lots of pips). I purchased my room in a sale, and it proved to be tucked away at the back of the hotel; it was an “Art Deco King”, which sounds luxurious, but in fact I think this is just their basic room type.

• Piyush (9/5): Great location hotel that feels like staying in a local brand hotel vs the big western ones. - Near the main Nanjing road with lots of local coffee shops and food places if needed. The rooms were bigger than I expected for a city centre hotel which was much appreciated. Not much to worry about in this regard though the hotel entrace is on a side street so it was hard for taxi's to stop directly outide (they don't have a dedicated turn in area). There is also no ramp from the street so suitcases have to be loaded over, however the porters were very helpful and did most of the work for us!

• Adrian (8/5): Very nice hotel but fix the room thermostat - The location, staff, facilities and general presentation of the hotel was excellent. My only complaint was that the thermostat and airconditioning in my room could not be adjusted. The room was at a constant temperature of around 27-28c but I usually sleep comfortably around 19-21c. When I called for service, the advice was to open windows or they could bring a fan. I’m sorry, just fix the thermostat, please. Sleep is very important when you are travelling.

• Julie (10/5): Highly recommend ! - Location was great walking distance to Bund. 7 Eleven and variety of restaurants across the street. Welcome coffee/tea and tiramisu on arrival which was appreciated after a long flight plus 1 beer per person. Breakfast was plentiful with lots of choice, the king bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was extra large and included deep bath with TV. Over all throughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend the balcony room with view of the Shanghai Spire. Nothing

The room is clean but a bit dated. There is heating which I couldnt adjust and it made the room a bit warmer than I would like.

Die Betten sind sehr bequem. Wasser genug vorhanden. Die Mitarbeiter im Lobbybereich sind sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Die Damen vom Zimmerservice sind super freundlich. Die Lage an sich ist top. U-Bahn, Nanjing Rd. schnell zu erreichen. Frühstück ist in Ordnung, aber nicht überragend. Wenn man Angebote bekommen kann, ist es passend. Regulärer Preis ist deutlich zu hoch. Frühstück in Ordnung, aber nicht überragend: Viele Sachen liegen zu lange herum. Es wird der Tisch abgeräumt, obwohl man nur Nachschlag holt. Es gibt keine Möglichkeit draußen zu sitzen. Okay, Stadthotel, aber da hatte ich andere Hotels in gleicher Lage die besser waren. Der Lobby Bereich ist zu klein, gerade mal 6 Tische.

• PaulDuncan (6/5): average stay - much better hotels in the area for the price - Location is great, nice staff, large rooms stayed two nights, both nights had issues with the toilets overflowing into bathroom, i was embarrassed having to report it to reception as i thought they would think it was me, it was my first toilet visit and i only did a pee, so i was surprised when i flushed and it overflown followed by toilet paper and other toilet things. but they did clear it straight away and cleaned the room, but i was disappointed when it happened again the following Moring, i started using the nearby shopping mall when i needed the toilet as i wasn't convinced it wouldn't happen again

• Robert V. (9/5): Classic Shanghai charm - I have stayed at this hotel multiple times and genuinely enjoy coming back. The property has a distinctive Golden Era Shanghai charm that gives it a unique atmosphere. The location is excellent, and the hotel restaurant, 1933 Rose, is outstanding. On the downside, I have now experienced unpleasant behavior from the breakfast staff for the second time. Considering this is a five-star hotel, it is not acceptable to be told a few minutes before 10:00 that I cannot take any more pastries that are still available, simply because breakfast ends at 10:00. In comparable hotels, it is usually not an issue to sit and finish breakfast a bit beyond the official closing time.

• Alex (9/5): A great choice for your first stay in Shanghai - The location is ideal and the hotel looks nice and well maintained. The stuff is very helpful and they are fluent in English. The room was a bit too warm, at 27 degrees Celsius. Being early spring when we visited, the weather was still chilly so they had to heat the rooms, but we couldn't adjust the temperature in our room and it was a bit too warm for a perfect sleep. Also, the wifi didn't really work, but frankly the wifi didn't work in any 5-star hotel we staid in mainland China during our trip. Other than this, everything was perfect.

• Peter (9/5): Great hotel, nearly 100 years old - Ideal location would stay there again for certain - Location is great, service is great, its very safe and very friendly, has a great huge bath thats super handy as you will walk lots Wasn’t a big issue to be honest but the air conn in the main room wasn’t cooling so we had to rely on the bathroom one, it was March and we got by - i told them as we left - Silly thing I would have liked to see if the plates for the breakfast warmer, they are sat on an industrial warner rack but are still almost cold, a small issue and certainly didn’t ruin the stay i have only mentioned as you asked.

Sehr gute Sauberkeit Zentrale gute Lage Die Zimmer und das Gym sind stark in die Jahre gekommen und alt. Das Zimmer war auch bei Tageslicht sehr dunkel, da es in den Innenhof ging und auch noch Pflanzen vor den Fenstern waren. Die Matratze war weich und hat eine Kuhle gebildet. Das Frühstück war im Vergleich zu anderen chinesischen Hotels eher mittelmäßige Qualität. Die Lobby hat kein Tageslicht und ist ungemütlich. Das Design des Hotels spricht mich persönlich gar nicht an.
