- Ching-Yin (3/5): Budget property at a premium price; property manager attempted to bribe for review - The location is great: close to various tube stations. The Jackalope bar a few doors down is lively, though sometimes a bit too lively. The listing is not as advertised: it is not well maintained. After check-out, property manager Simon attempted to bribe me for a review.
This might have been a really nice place once, but repairs seem to have been done at the cheapest and lowest quality possible. It is filled with flimsy and dated furnishings and utensils. The finishing is very tired; there are scuff marks on all walls. There is visible water marks on the living room ceiling, and visible water streaks on the bedroom walls.
Additionally:
- The leather wraparound sofa has been replaced with a smaller sofa with a missing cushion and little support
- There is no king-sized bed: both beds are 150cm wide
- Pots and pans provided are small in size and work only on the 2 smallest-sized induction hobs
- The high quality-looking kitchen utensils in the photo have been removed
- There is a persistent leak in the master ensuite: the bedroom carpet was damaged and wet upon our arrival
- The entire upstairs floor was not cleaned on arrival
Property manager Simon was more interested in throwing bodies at problems as they came up - and many came up - then providing the property in the state that it was advertised. I managed to negotiate a small refund as compensation for these issues.
Simon was also quick to take all communications off the Booking.com platform. I discovered the reason for this the day after checking: he sent me a voice note "I just wanted to drop you a message about the refund I would appreciate if you could leave us a 10 out of 10 review on Booking.com, and then you send me a screenshot of it. I will make sure you get your 1-night refund and the cleaning fee returned back to you this Friday."
It has been 3 months since check out. Simon has not provided the refund.
I reported the bribe attempt to Booking.com. I urge all with similar experiences to do the same.
