Guest Reviews
- Rhiannon (8/5): Very good -
- Wasaby (9/5): Superb -
- Nizar (9/5): Superb -
- Noman (1/5): Bad - Staff was pathetic specially the manager. He charges more in the name of upgrading room.6
- Cherry (7/5): Good price for a stay in the centre of Shanghai - Very good location. The staff were extremely nice and helpful. They even offered to suggest plans for us (for what to do in Shanghai). And it was at a pretty good price. There was a nice common room — even with chinese chess and sometimes locals would join and watch your game :) Unfortunately the stay was dirty — the shared male bathrooms especially. But luckily they provide travellers from Booking.com with a private dorm bathroom.
- Samantha (6/5): Pleasant - It was close to what I had intended to do and the staff were very nice. Water and snacks available to purchase. Adorable cats and a puppy too. It was a little uncomfortable as a solo female traveler with all the men in the lounge area and a wide age range of them. I briefly saw maybe two other women that weren’t in my dorm room when I went through. Cleaning staff didn’t always close the door when they came through the room either so anyone could have walked in if they decided to. No lockers in the dorm.
- Fatih (6/5): Pleasant - Location and prize No hygiene
- Kitti (1/5): If you are an international traveller do not choose this hostel. It’s basically for workes in Shanghai who can’t afford - Location was ok. Public transport easily accessibe. There are shops nearby. BEDBUGS!!
No cleaning at all. Every day a cleaning lady came without knocking, take out trash (no cleaning) and left the room door open..
Mold everywhere in the room
Smelly common areas: extreme pee smell in the hostel
Uncomfortable cheap beds
- Alessandra (6/5): Pleasant - Staff speaks good english It’s not close to a metro station
- 岳奇 (10/5): A vibrant and convenient youth hostel—minor upgrades could make it flawless. - - Prime location near subway stations and popular attractions.
- Modern and cozy common areas, perfect for social interactions.
- Friendly and helpful staff with clear check-in guidance.
- Clean beds and excellent value for money. - Bathroom facilities are slightly outdated, and some showers have unstable water pressure.
- Phoebe (2/5): Very poor -
- Van (7/5): Good - Good location, clean bedding. Such a dirty bathroom and common area
- Joana (1/5): The worst hostel we stayed in one year of traveling. - Nothing. It’s dirty. Uncomfortable. Smelly. Only men. Everything in this hostel is wrong.
The room was completely dirty and even tho they change the trash bags daily, they do not make an effort to clean it whatsoever. Everyday a lady would come inside the room without knocking and turning all the lights on when we were sleeping, when she left she’d always leave the door open.
The toilet flush was broken and they suggested us to move to another room, when I told that the suggested room was way too dirty and asked them to clean it they said that it’s better we stay in the same room (with the broken toilet) because the other one was very dirty (zero effort to clean it)
It smells like trash and urine all over the hallways. My bed had ticks and bed bugs.
The lady “cleaning” the toilet used the toilet brush to clean both the inside of the toilet and the sink. It had underwear from previous guests drying on the bathroom.
On the 28th of April a notice in Chinese was posted on every door announcing that the premises had to be evicted until the 30th. This information was not shared by the staff to the international guests.
When confronted with this the staff played it off and said it was nothing, even tho they were emptying the common areas and clearly something was wrong.
As a women I did not feel comfortable or safe staying since there are only men loitering and looking up and down at us at all hours in the common spaces.
I do not recommend anyone to stay here. We only stayed because everything else was sold out.
- Kevin (3/5): Disgusting rooms 😑 - The staff were very friendly and tried helping as much as possible which I appreciated a lot! The rooms were filthy, had lots of iteams from previous owners who had not cleaned out and clearly not been cleaned by the staff
The bathroom has dirty floors with a weak shower and the bathroom door had no lock meaning anyone could walk in on ya (which happened to me and I did to someone)
The beds made noise by moving making squeaky noises that could wake up the person sleeping underneath me.
Overall, it's a hostel I stayed in for 1 week I had to adjust myself to, but in the end it was one of the worst hostel rooms I've been to and the photoes does not reflect reality.
- Javier (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sergei (6/5): Pleasant -
- Tileuberdi (5/5): Not bad for its price, though could be better - The staff was good enough to explain everything. But the toilet and shower outside of the room was really dirty and smelled bad. Another thing is cigarettes, they are everywhere as well as their smell.
Inside the room where I was, toilet and shower were in the same place, nothing to prevent water from falling into the room, yet there was no shoes for that.
- Jiehong (10/5): Amazing - Overall, I would like to say it is a nice experience to be fair
The cleanness is not as bad as I expected . The staff is nice Kai is a helpful guy hello me with anything. Like to social in this huge communal space Will come back again for sure
- Robert (1/5): Bad - Nothing They was smoking in the restroom and showers
Very dirty
Not like in pictures
- Rudy (4/5): It was a mess - Unfortunately, I can only feel it was a mess. The hostels is too big and has too many rooms, so the employee unable to manage all the occupants. Some of my room 366 occupants, smoke inside the room and bathroom. And the bathroom is so dirty, I have to clean it myself. There are also hanging clothes in the middle of the room. And the trash are scattered in the room. When I asked the manager about the trash, he only replied that there are people who stay there for a very long time, so it was normal for them to do that. The manager had no intention to clean all the trash.
If the employees cannot be expect to monitor all smoking in the room, at least they need to install smoke alarm and also hire more people to clean the room and bathroom.
The only good side are the location and the price. But honestly, I regret on my first day there and wish to move to more expensive but cleaner hostel, if not because I already paid in full.
- Magdalena (2/5): Very poor - The staff were very lovely and helpful. The smell was horrible, no one in our room was a smoker but we still had it inside the room. The socks, the smoke and just dirty.
- Brendon (5/5): If you’re willing to make a compromise on comfort for price and only require the absolute bare minimum when it comes to - Cheap price for stay, staff were friendly Bathroom and toilet facilities were extremely filthy and reminiscent of something out of a horror movie.
The smell of cigarettes linger throughout the entire building, even within the dormitories
No lockable storage facilities within the rooms
Wifi is unreliable and slow
- Justin (10/5): Mo is a very nice girl, very helpful and friendly during my stay, the environment is very nice, if you are looking for v -
- Mohamed (5/5): Passable -
- Philip (10/5): Exceptional - Best hostel in shanghai, service was very good. Very recommended
- Mitchell (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peach (5/5): Passable -
- Gurpreet (10/5): Exceptional - Nice room
- Javier (2/5): Friendly nice staff, amazingly cheap but you get what you pay for. - The staff were nice and friendly. The bunk beds were ok and clean. The price was very cheap. Facilities like the showers, the bathrooms and the shared rooms were very dirty. Not a lot of natural light. Smelly. Leaking water. The common space wasn’t appealing, it just felt disorganised and dirty.
- Kevin (10/5): Exceptional - Best Hostel in Shanghai.
- Wiktoria (8/5): good hostel in shanghai - nice social hostel, staff was very nice and helpful. everything was overall clean. beds were comfy bathrooms were a little bit dirty and it was freezing cold in the room
- Maureen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sailesh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Belgharouadi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hamid (7/5): Good -
- Kris (8/5): Very good -
- Mohamed (7/5): Good -
- Kevin (10/5): Exceptional - Very good place nice location helpful workers, they speak good english so no communication issues 10/10
- Jiehong (10/5): Gr8 - Everything is good 👍 much better than I expected for this price in Shanghai really good vibe here and nice staff The place is a little hard to find you have to read the note they send you
- Kaushal (1/5): Bad -
- Firuz (10/5): Just chill and vibe here. - Vibe, price, personal A like everything<3
- Harzallah (8/5): Very good -
- Yun (2/5): for any person, not susceptible to insanitation.. - The manager was so kind, and she or he can speak in English! Honestly, I can't recommend this room.
The smoking area isn't separated from the main hall. Just a plastic curtain is installed..(nothing to explain more...)
and the roome was so uncomfortable..
The ventilator in the bathroom was malfunctioning.. and the room was filled with pissy air....
The white pillow and covers are stained with a lot of red stain..
This is the cheapest room in Shanghai, and the user had to bear uncomfortable things..
- Jihye (4/5): Unclean but affordable - They gave us covers for the pillow, mattress and blanket. It was a hassle but good because that way, I would know that they are new. You can smell smoking everywhere. A customer fought the staff in front of the lounge where all the guests were gathered (police came eventually). Tables in the lounge seemed never wiped up. If you need an affordable place, it can still be a good option, though. Do not expect that the hostel will be like in the pictures.
- Mohamed (7/5): Good -
- Raquel (8/5): convenient - Good location no good wifi
- Robert (9/5): Superb -
- Matthew (6/5): I would stay there again because I'm a penny pincher, I would not take someone there who is fussy. - Decent pricing and cheap for a night in Shanghai City
Friendly and helpful staff members who made sure I was okay to find the place
Clean bedding given to you upon arrival The bathroom was not very clean and I did not feel comfortable to shower there, it did not seem very hygienic. This is coming from someone who is really happy to rough things out and deal with a lot -I know for the price I wasn't going to get anything spectacular but a clean bathroom was expected.
- Jiehong (10/5): Exceptional - Shanghai cheapest place to stay with super good value will separate long term residence and visitors into different room which is good arrangement Too social in the evening can hear noise form living room
- Hemant (7/5): All good. - One of the cheapest and Internationally renowned youth hostel and staff is jovial and friendly. A little cleanliness could be improved outside the room in the alley.
- Jiehong (10/5): Good 👍 - Really good value manager able to peak English and help a lot No kitchen
- Jiehong (10/5): Gr8 - Staff can speak English especially the manager have more foreigner then other hostel in Shanghai so you can social for a bit ✅ Nth
- Davide (7/5): Good -
- Lee (7/5): Eye-opening experience, will not stay again. - It is really cheap, and the bed was not that bad. Otherwise, everything else, nothing much to say. I think being upfront about mostly hosting chinese workers should be paramount. My whole room was just chinese workers even though it was designated as a Booking.com room. I felt quite bad rummaging around my stuff at night, the room seem pretty lived in permanently by the workers, so I felt like I was intruding. Also there are no lockers so I ended up carrying most of my electronics around with me.
- Zehra (10/5): Exceptional -
- Min (10/5): Exceptional - Superior geographical location,in the center of Shanghai. You can see the Oriental pearl TV Tower in the lobby. There are also two cute kittens in the store,I made many friends here and lived very happily. The staff in the store can communicate in English.Cheap price, high cost-effectiveness. Nothing
- Lorenzo (7/5): Good -
- Liz (10/5): good - Living in Pu Chun Youth Travel is an unforgettable experience! The public area here is very large, with free billiard tables, Internet access and even a small bar. In the evening, the atmosphere is simply not too good! What impresses me most is the receptionist Feifei, diligent and efficient! Every time I have a need, she always solves it the first time, which makes people feel very sweet. She is always patient and careful, and he will deal with problems quickly and efficiently. I feel that living here not only enjoys a comfortable environment, but also meets a serious and responsible staff like this, which makes people feel warm and at ease. The next time I come to Shanghai, I will choose Pu Chun Youth Travel!
- Mia (10/5): i think it’s a very low price in china -
- Christopher (7/5): Good -
- Osman (4/5): Disappointing - cold
- Ben (8/5): Very good -
- Mahlangu (5/5): Passable - People smoke anywhere and it smell bad in the corridors
- Mark (3/5): Poor -
- Camilo (4/5): Disappointing - Nothing Everything
- Merwan (4/5): Disappointing -
- Natalia (1/5): The stuff was awesome, very nice, kind and helpful. Especially Han was lovely, she made my stay there as lovely as it co - The stuff was awesome, very nice, kind and helpful. Especially Han was lovely, she made my stay there as lovely as it could’ve been But the rooms were a catastrophe, mold in every room, i’ve changed it 3 times, in one there was even mold on the pillow. The 4th room didnt have mold tho, but i’d also didn’t have any windows
- Mahlangu (7/5): Great environment to meet new people - Mo offered great assistance. She is so hand on in helping the guest People smoke anywhere in the building
- Jinyoung (7/5): cheap and clean - staffs spoke english and chinese. and they were nice. rooms were kept relatively clean and bunk beds were ok.
Its not to far away from the Lujiabang station. 10 minutes walk. its really cheap! if you plan to spend the most of the time out sightseeing, this is the best option imho if you are sensitive to cigarette smell, consider finding a different hotel/hostel. No one smokes inside but I could smell the mild cigarette scent coming from somewhere (I couldn't locate where it was coming from) and for some reason, the hallway smelled like pee (only the hallway tho, rooms were fine)
- Liz (10/5): good - Shanghai is a city where consumption is not cheap. When I saw the price of this youth tour on booking, I was shocked by its price, so I chose puchun. When I came to check in, their manager was also receiving me. His English was very good, and other staff could also speak some English, which really surprised me. I saw many people playing billiards in the hall and someone chatting next to me. Or playing chess and games and so on, it really has the atmosphere of Youth Travel, the room is quite large, and the sanitation is good, so I choose to give a good comment.
- Westwood (10/5): very interesting - The environment is very good and the cost performance is very high. no.perfrct

- Talilah (7/5): Good -
- 拓 (6/5): it's good if you prefer to cheap than confortable - the fee is cheapest In the city. apparently, smoking is allowed in the building.
toilet in dorm room was out of order, additionally common one was filthy.
- Rostyslav (10/5): I would recommend this place for short stay - Great value for money, very convenient location, not too many russians or other unpleasantness Smoking
- Liz (10/5): good - i ow shanghai is not a cheap city, So this price for shanghai is really amazing, The stuff is really good one of the manager can speak really nice english the other is quite helpful, The location is also quitenice Just eight minutes walk from nearby tube station, And it is close to the main attraction like thebound and The room is a bit dark and There is too many people in the communal area in the evening, Sometimes itis not very guiet there didn fing any bug
- Èric (5/5): Passable -

- Dariusz (1/5): Bad - Nth Disaster
- Ange.h (3/5): You get what you pay - Location was good, bus stop close by to main attractions and two metros 10-15mins walk. Staff was nice, also helped me book a Didi to get to the airport, they provide bottle water if you ask and they provide a small towel. If you just need a place to sleep and you don't care about everything else, the place is good for the price Not the cleanest, dusty, bed was hard like cardboard, bed shakes, you can hear neighbours from other room. Also people smoking in the hallway. I read the reviews, but was hoping it's better than expected, but it was worse because the photos doesn't show the full picture. They don't provide soap which is ok considering the price, but the place should be clean
- Mathieu (1/5): Bad - after staying in my room for 10 minutes, seeing the small mattress, the wifi disconnecting every 7 seconds and the staff being rude, i left and took a hotel :) everything
- Muhammad (10/5): Exceptional - Bathroom Nothing
- Jose (7/5): Nice private room in hostel (more workers than tourists). Close to metro and old town, good price - It´s a hostel where most of people there are workers I guess, so not very easy to socialize, but also I didn´t try it.
I had a private room, was fine, good size, quiet, close to old town and metro and very good price for Shanghai. It could be a bit cleaner and less dark, so the room would looks more attractive, but still everything was fine and didn´t find any bugs
- Petro (8/5): Very good - Location and staff are awesome! Great value for money. Some guests smoke in the corridor
- Samuel (10/5): Definitely I’ll stay there again - The staff was amazing!!!
- Richard (9/5): Superb -
- Richard (10/5): Very nice for internationals as some stuff speak english and you are warm welcomed - The people there are very friendly and the playing area is very good to hang around
- Abdul (10/5): 👍 anazing - Manager can speak very good English and help me a lot ,😉😉😉
- Mathijs (7/5): Good - Kind staff and we got unlimited water bottles for free Matrass we're thin
- Jablonski (10/5): Best place to stay in Shanghai - The place is amazing - made good friends immediately and since it’s a budget place you get what you pay for. It’s a bit messy with little decoration
- Tomasz (9/5): Superb - one receptionist speaks English and he's super helpful. It's the best place for this price Very hard to find, but ask around - they know the place. Lift is next to the mechanic store
- Dzebo (10/5): Amazing deal - The location is amazing, the price is very affordable and the staff is nice. I walked almost everywhere from there The only tiny flaw is the cleanliness - the fridge smells bad and so does the microwave. I don't think that it was the staff's fault though, the residents were very messy and it is a very big hostel. Also, the beds were a little bit hard
- Alp (8/5): Would stay again - The location is close the the Yu Garden, People’s Square by metro. Rooms and showers are clean. Hostel itself is overall great for it’s cheap price. Also there are lots of gaming pc with curved monitors most games are preloaded. There is a microwave and kettle also tables to eat at. You can buy instant noodles, drinks, snacks without going out but if you do there is a FamilyMart market closeby. Beds could be comfier
- Alp (8/5): Very good -
- Vivi (5/5): Passable -
- Jade (3/5): Poor -
- Anissa (3/5): Poor - The manager was very friendly and helpful, spoke great English and took my feedback well. It was not clean and my dorm was much smaller than it seems on the photos. There are mostly Chinese men staying here, barely any foreign tourists. The vibe was off for me. A drunk Chinese man was bothering me in the common room but none of the staff or guests seemed to care. I reserved for 3 nights but left after the first night.
- Vora (10/5): Exceptional - The price and the location, 5-7 minutes away from exit 1 of Lujiabang road station Common washroom was difficult to use
- Helena (9/5): Nice place to stay - Nice location
- Hammsmith (10/5): Exceptional - This is the best hostel I have ever stayed in. The public area of the hotel is really, really big, with a free pool table and a free little Internet cafe.If you want a drink there is a lovely little bar where you can buy some alcohol and drink with friends. The staff also spoke some English, especially the manager, who was fluent in English. The location is also very good. If you can use Alipay to ride a bike, you can get to the Bund, Yuyuan Garden and Tianzi Square very quickly.
