• Marie (1/5): Lack of accountability - I booked 2 nights in the hostel and was fairly exited due to the reviews. On what was meant to be the first day of my stay, Ray (the owner) messaged me to tell me the room was double booked, and that I couldn't stay in the hostel on the first night, but that he had a room of the same standard to offer me in exchange. I arrived around 5-6pm after travelling all day, and was charged for both nights prior to seeing the alternative room. We then went to the room, and it was completely different. It was in an (family?) appartment on a very busy street (nonstop traffic noise), with two single bed instead of a double. There was also a dog that kept on barking when someone opened/closed the front door. The barking dog woke me up the next morning at 6, 7, and 8AM. The only things both rooms had in common were the ensuite bathroom and the air conditioning. I unfortunately only took a video of the other room so the pictures are screenshots of said video. The next day, I asked Ray for a partial refund as the alternative room was far from the original. He refused saying that it was Booking's system fault and not his that the room got double booked (even though when he showed me his view of the app it was clear I had booked for 2 nights). He told me to complain to Booking about it and that he'd do the same. I messaged customer service and received a message saying that they've reached out to Ray, and he had not responded, proving further that it was indeed his mistake. My theory is that, like other hostels, he advertises the rooms on multiple platforms. He must have gotten the reservations mixed up, but instead of owning up to his mistake, he preferred to blamed everybody else (he told me at some point that it was my fault because I had made 2 different bookings for each nights....).
