Guest Reviews
- Ana (1/5): Not as it looks in the pictures, in a very degrading state - I can not say anything was good. From the check-in to the staying itself, it was not as expected at all The fotos sent to me and on booking are not the reality. The picture of the room I booked, it shows only half the room, and after I get there I knew why. The room was in a very poor state and dirty. Also was just next to the street, separated only by a gate and then the room door. The bathroom was very small, with cables hanging from the water heater and also dirty. There was also no pictures of the bathroom, only the mirror. And the bathroom door was also not closing, what was very uncomfortable. The place itself was in a very degrading state.
- Antti (10/5): Exceptional - Communication from host Miss Mika wss wonderful
- Rebecka (8/5): Perfect Hanoi - I loved this place, authentic homestay in Hanoi, I enjoyed walking the small ways, perfect when you don't wanna stay in city center,
easy to get to Old Quarter or other attractions,
very helpful video for an easy arrival the fridge needs to be cleaned,
some motorbikes were very noisy at night
- Rodriguez (9/5): Superb -
- George (8/5): Very good - I'd say that it is overall a nice stay. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the area is amazing with all the small streets.
The bathroom is clean for the facilities, but there is a smell (you have to close the door and it is okay and mold. If you're used to hostels, then this is a really nice stay. The bed was good for me, but I can imagine that some would find it hard. The lock was improvised, but works for me!
- Marie (6/5): Not the best staying - Quiet neighborhood I'm sorry but I can't lie. My stay was not exceptional. It was rather dirty. The walls were moldy. I found huge piles of hair and dirt in the trash can. Even if it is a trash can, you don't leave that in plain sight... It would have been good to warn that you have to pay in cash. That will avoid making a trip to the ATM for nothing... and feeling like a thief... Also, the shower pressure was really weak
- Lena (2/5): Friendly host. Bad and smelling room - Very lovely host that made it possible for me to check in on short notice Everything else was not good.. room smelled like toilet, mold on every wall, hair in the bed, dirty bathroom- including a lot of hair in the drain. Location was hard to find and quite far from the center. Taxi will drop you off somewhere on the road and you will need to find the place by foot
- Leonard (10/5): Exceptional - It was a very quiet, non tourist area. I never actually met any staff there. Just got directions via whatssapp on how to get there where the room was and code for the building. Can be tricky to find as it's down back lane ways. Does has thin winding steps to climb up to your room.
- Anu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elena (10/5): I just loved my days in this room - Quiet and cozy. The owner was very helpful and the room has everything I need. I wanted to stay out of the old quarter because of the amount of noise, but also not that far. Getting lost in the street labyrinths around this neighborhood was the best experience I had in Hanoi, I just loved my days in this room. The kitchen could be a bit cleaner
- Mrmichele (10/5): Exceptional - The area is very chill, everything is properly clean and mika is very nice and friendly. Totally recommend it if you don't want to stay in the crowd centre
- Bartosz (4/5): Disappointing - 1. Contact with the host/caretaker of the place.
2. Flexibility with the arrival time.
3. Taking care of the luggage. 1. The buzzing of some machine on the roof all the time, even at night.
2. Problems with locks.
3. A very dirty kitchen.
4. An unpleasant smell from the sink.
5. The property is in very poor technical condition.
6. Dingy.
7. The bed frame was digging into my back.
- Haroon (10/5): Great for a couple of days! - Very nice host. Safe location. Big and clean room. Really comfortable.
- Arisa (10/5): Lovely local homestay - Mika was amazing host, she gave me helpful tips around Hanoi. Also she took me lunch at the local vegetarian restaurant.
Nice experience to stay at local’s house, it’s not at the city centre but you can see more different local places.
Highly recommend to anyone who’s visiting Hanoi:)
- Suplaag (10/5): Exceptional - Just like it’s name, it is simple and cozy. I really enjoy my stay in this Homestay. I’ll surely book again when I’ll come back to Hanoi. I highly recommend this Homestay. Enjoy everyone.
- Côme (10/5): I greatly appreciated Mika’s welcome. Very charming and you feel very good there, especially for your first night in Asi - All Nothing
- Ariadna (8/5): Very good - Mika is very kind and friendly, he helps you with everything he can, he tells you the best places to eat locally and he helped me find a place to store the motorcycle at night.
The only bad thing will be the price for the room I had. Was small, maybe more cheap will be perfect.
- Gerard (10/5): Amazing host with loads of local knowledge and a lovely area outside the super touristy centre of the city. Also Mika is -
- Julian (10/5): Fully satisfied - Mika was very nice and helpful. The homestay is a bit hard to find but it was easy with her directions. The rooms are clean and quiet, beds comfortable as well. Very affordable.
Location is about 40 minutes on foot or 10 minutes by Grab Taxi from the Old Quarter. The city center gets very crowded at night, so it was nice to stay somewhere quiet. I saw basically no other tourists in the area, so the experience felt very authentic. There are no personal lockers (but there front door is usually locked)
- István (9/5): Superb - I really liked the location: it is in a local neighborhood, yet close to the center. The value for price is pretty good and the host is very helpful. You have a lot of good streetfood place nearby. The accomodation is very basic and small. You only have a thin matresses and rooms dont have a window. So its perfect if you only wanna sleep here, but not very good if you want to spend half of your day here. You should find a hostel or hotel in this case.
- Briana (7/5): Good -
- Tiina (10/5): Must do Hanoi experience - I had a lovely time here at Mika's place. She showed me street food around the corner and great walking tours. She was really helpful and fantastic person. For me it was a great experience to live as a local in a cozy and quiet place.
- Yuki (10/5): Had a good time there - Mika was kind enough to take me to the local vendor for dinner, and banhmi with meat was so delicious.
The location was a bit confusing, but she sent me a good indication and I did not have a problem at all. And it is not located in touristic place so that I could enjoy local atmosphere.
The room which I stayed was a single room, and it was so clean, with good AC, the shower had hot water.
- Filip (10/5): Cozy hideout - Cozy little place with everything you need. Bed, WC and shower. You can go there anytime you want and you feel like living with the locals. Place is "hidden" and I loved it. Mika the owner is also very friendly and helpful giving tips for great food around the homestay. Some local folks were very hardworking in the evening (9-10pm) but nothing that earplugs won't solve :)
- Moritz (10/5): Great time - This was my second stay here. So obviously I enjoyed it. Please manage your expectations and be realistic with what you can get for this price in Ha Noi.
- Moritz (10/5): Cozy stay with the perfect location. - I love the homestay and even came back for my second night which consisted of 3 nights. The location is just perfect. Travelers that like the authentic Vietnamese life will be more satisfied staying here in this area. It is much more authentic and Mika has great reccomendations. I don't need a lot to feel good in a place that I mainly use for sleeping so this place was perfect for me because the price is very low and has all the necessities you need, It can be noisy in the morning as the Viet people wake up early and honk with their bikes. ALSO !!! dont expect that you get a 3* hotel for the price !!!
- Marjolein (1/5): Bad - Mika helped us book a ticket for water puppet show Very thin mattress, as if you are lying on the floor. Cockroaches are walking all over your bed. My 'locker' good not get locked. You don't have any privacy. There is mould everywhere in the apartment. The host is better in whatsapp then in person for communicating.
- Nadim (10/5): Peaceful ally in the middle of a bustling city - The location is wonderful in the allyways in Hanois city . The host is friendly and helpful. And in a noisy city the room is very quiet, big bonus.
- Laura (10/5): What an adventure to stay here! I loved it! But high maintenance people stay away - It was so cool to follow the instructions to arrive to the homestay, located in a super authentic local neighborhood. The best part was being greeted by the lovely people staying here who kindly offered me some bruschetta and wine. Amazing vibes in this place! I was only uncomfortable at the beginning of the night because my duvet was damp and didn't smell too good, as it had just been washed. Mika tried to helped me and gave me another sheet, which was also damp, but it was more comfortable. I slept good anyways!
- Antonio (10/5): A great base to explore Hanoi - I had an amazing stay at Mika's. She is so caring! I had just landed in Hanoi and she helped me with my day to day plans. It is in a great location.
- Nurembergaftermidnight (8/5): Very good - The landlady is super nice!
The private room was in a small side building and was pretty cozy! Good for 1-2 people and I think better for a few days stay, rather than just 1 day.
I think the value for money is excellent! It IS a bit outside the city so it was very annoying when I wanted to take guided tours bc the buses only pick up in the city center.
The bed was a bit hard (normal in Vietnam) and the water pressure was very low so the shower wasn't that relaxing. Also it was relatively noisy on the street in the morning, so it's better if you are an early riser. (Also common problem in Vietnam tho)
- Julie (8/5): Simple and cosy, really loved the area - - the hidden location, I really liked it because you’re in a small street, you immerse in Vietnamese life and you can hear local life from your room (and no cars!)
- the bed, it’s thin yes but I slept sooo well !
- The host, she’s very sweet and try her best to give you the best experience possible - The homestay is a bit small for that many people
- The way to come to my room is not ideal, it’s kinda narrow and it’s hard to take your luggage upstairs
- Levin (10/5): Exceptional - Mika was very friendly and adjusted to me even though I booked to shortly in advance. I was very thankfull that she let me stay, and the stay itself was great!
- Sabrina (8/5): Very good - It's cozy and the host Mika is very kind and gave us a lot of recommendations for places to go. The walls seemed a bit thin and thus I could hear some other guests pretty loudly, not so great for light sleepers. The bathroom is quite small.
- Pablo (2/5): Hostel not suitable for everybody - It’s old, simple and low standard. It reminded me of the time in rural areas with my grandparent’s when I was a child, and enjoyed remembering my childhood The owner made me feel uncomfortable and even asked me not to review my stay. 🤷♂️!! I usually do not review but this time I will do it because she even came out of the hostel to ask me not to do it.. I was also taking something out of my bag in the street and she told me to do it inside the hostel because in the street I may bother the neighbours. The hostel is super low standard, with 1 bathroom with 5 minutes of hot water for all the guests. Anyway, I enjoyed being in a super low standard environment, because it’s a new experience for me, away from the comfort of my home, but the experience is not suitable for everybody
- Bruno (10/5): Exceptional - Great value. Exactly what a budget traveller needs.
Good location in a fun and authentic area of hanoi
Mika, the host, is friendly and helpful. She will provide many advice and good adresses. Don't expect luxury, yet good value.
- Quentin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Valentin (10/5): Exceptional - I really enjoyed my stay at Mika's cute home. (Sorry for the late review!).
The place is small but cosy, O found the mats on the floor very comfortable, in a Japanese futon style and I slept perfectly.
We had a long interesting chat with Mika! She is very attentionate and made herself available to exchange with me which was very valuable to me.
Thanks again Mika!
- Ayano (10/5): Exceptional - I’ve been backpacking for 3 weeks and this hostel is the best ever! The owner, Mika san is so sweet. The showroom is too small
- Shuichiro (10/5): Exceptional -
- Konstantin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Giovanni (10/5): Exceptional - Great host
- Nicole (10/5): Nice stay in an authentic area - The dorm is very cozy and feels almost like being in your room. The bathroom has hot water and there’s also a fridge in the common aera as well as kettle. It’s also provided with a small kitchen with sink. The owner Mika is really friendly and such a nice person, she gives recommendations about what to see in Hanoi and overall it was pleasant to casually chat with her.
- Rain (10/5): Super cozy and beautiful - I booked a Mika homestay as I wanted to stay away from the old quarter and see the real alley of Vietnam.
I hadn't expected the homestay to be that beautiful honestly but it just exceeded my expectations. It was super cozy and beautiful. The bed was so comfortable and soft and I couldn't leave by just staying one night so I extended my stay.
The host, Ms. Mika, will definitely be in my Hanoi's best memory. She is so very hospitable and friendly.
She added beauty in my stay.
Instructions are clearly written and mentioned in the room so you wouldn't need to worry even if she is not around. Things to do/places to visit are clearly mentioned in their insta page. Lots of eateries nearby.
Will definitely check in on my next visit.
- Ines (7/5): Good -
- Evanne (4/5): Disappointing -
- Surits (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hanna (10/5): Exceptional - Cozy hostel with the best host ever!
- Konstantin (10/5): Exceptional - I'm really excited about this place. It is located in a local neighborhood and you can immerse yourself in the vibe of Vietnamese life. If you're looking for that kind of experience, this is the place to be. Mika is a very pleasant and kind person. I was glad to stay here during my trip.
- Greta (10/5): Exceptional - The house is typical and nice, it's away from the traffic noise just inside some little caratheristic street. Maybe a little hard to find at the first time but not impossible with all the indication Mika gives you, The owner will support you by wattsapp and in person all the time, giving you tips if you need and answering any kind of questions.
Very nice at the end
- Anja (7/5): Good - You get a lot of information about food and attractions. There was a bad atmosphere in the Homestay because of the owner and some guests.i didn't feel comfortable at all. The mixed dorm room is not a closed room so everyone is walking through and they don't change the bed sheds after every guest.
- Emily (10/5): Mika is super lovely and has such a beautiful business that she has created 🌸🌸 - It was very cute, had a homie feel too it. Nothing I felt very comfortable.
- Jenna (3/5): Poor -
- Kelsey (10/5): Cozy, friendly and quiet spot - Mika is great! Very nice and always happy to help with travel advice, bookings and things to see in Hanoi. She also took me and some others out for dinner at a local spot. Everything was great
- Guillaume (10/5): Probably the best accomodation at good price in Hanoï - I really appreciate the location : it is central but it is very very quiet. In small street, no car, no noise. The room is comfortable, nice design. Mika is very sympathique and give you all the advices and helps you need.
- Giang (10/5): Exceptional - Mika The bathroom is quite small
- Duong (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laszlo (10/5): Hanoi hideaway - Mika is an excellent host! Very helpful in every way! Not easy to find but she sends you a short video how to locate the property. Everything is near by. Food, drinks, small market. -
- Karmen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Daria (7/5): Good -
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional - Simple & cozy as described. Staff friendly & provide recommendations. A little away from the old town, but that's no problem. Bed is hard & low to the ground, but I prefer that.
- Maksim (10/5): I spent a lovely time!! Mika(the owner) si nice, kind and helpful person!! I wish her a good life and nice people around) - It’s nice and cozy home stay)) The home stay is hidden in the middle of real Vietnamese life))I love small streets))It’s like a maze!!!)
- Mats (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andre (4/5): Disappointing -
- De (7/5): Good -
- Tomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hall (10/5): Exceptional - In a great local neighborhood! Mika was awesome with so many recommendations! Would definitely stay here again
- Grace (7/5): Good -
- John (10/5): Great authentic homestay experience. - I had a great stay here. Mika was an incredible host, so friendly and attentive.
The homestay is beautiful and looks just like the pictures.
I loved the plants around the homestay it felt very fresh and clean.
Mika recommended many helpful places to me and even shared a local snack with me when the vendor walked past the homestay. It was delicious.
I will return here whenever i am in Hanoi. I felt at home and I'm sad to leave. That I only stayed for a short time.
- South (10/5): Thank you for the shared time together mika! - Mika is a wonderful person and a great host! I felt very welcome, she has great local knowledge of the area and was extremely helpful towards me and my brother. Even though it is a shared homestay, you get a lot of privacy through the arrangement of the room. Honestly, this is the best value for money you can get!
- Kristina (8/5): Very good - Mika is really helpful and even sent me an itinerary on google maps to make sure I got to see everything I wanted to. She gave many recommendations for food, laundry, ATMs and attractions and advises how to get there. She brings the guests together by taking us all to have dinner together and chats to you like a friend rather than a guest. The location is away from the Old Quarter but it is so easy and cheap to get a grab or a bus to anywhere you want to go. So I didn't find this an issue at all When lots of guests use the shower, the water runs out, so you have to wait a little bit for the pump to refill the tank to have a shower. The beds are a bit hard but this seems common in Vietnam
- Sabrina (10/5): Exceptional - It was exactly how it was in the description. Simple and cozy. Mika was very nice. She prepared breakfast and lunch to go for me for my flight.
- Johnathan (10/5): Exceptional - Mika was the best host and showed me all of the best food spots!
- Robert (9/5): A cosy place in the hidden backstreets! - Located in a nice quiet part of Hanoi. Hard to find at first but a cool location and once you're used to it it's easy to navigate.
Comfy bed, very quaint and cosy decor.
Lovely host who met us on arrival and showed us around the place.
Circle K nearby to buy things like water. Narrow staircase to the room which is tricky to navigate with two big rucksacks, but we made it!
- Kevin (10/5): Exceptional - Mika really is a super host! Super friendly and accommodating. Went with me to buy water and dinner after arrival and showed me a few things. She checked every day if everything was good or if you needed any tips for Hanoi. When my travel plans changed spontaneously and I wanted to leave two days before, that was no problem either. Mika shortened the booking at Booking.com directly and refunded me the complete money for the two days. The WiFi worked great. The bed was a bit hard, but you can get a topper on request.
- Kaapo (10/5): Exceptional - Good vibes, Mika is absolutely an amazing host - eager to help with any kind of problems you have.
- Yzabel (4/5): Bad experience - The equipement was ok for me! I had a really bad experience in this homestay. Despite the good comments this host received on booking, she insulted me two times (telling me that i was smelling soooooo bad and not in a kind way) and she thought she should have a word to say on what i decide to do with my own body like wearing a bra or not (and no in Vietnam, you don't need to wear this, it is a personal choice). I didn't feel comfortable at all in this homestay because of her. I felt persecuted and judged. One second she was sweet and the next second she was making bad comments about me. I could not wait to leave this toxic environment.
- Lukas (10/5): Exceptional - Cheap homestay and kind personal. In the upper back area you feel like in a comfortable and cozy sleeping cave. I thought it was great! It's a little bit small if you have a lot of luggage (we are cyclists for example) and there is only a smaller common space.
- Maki (10/5): Exceptional -
- Natalia (10/5): Exceptional - Good place, same as in pictures
- Tamara (10/5): Exceptional - Everything is wonderful. Mika is wonderful host, she made me feel like at home. All her recommendations were great, all breakfasts and communication.
thank you!
Like the location also.
- Axl.b (10/5): Super nice host! - Mika is so nice and her place is super cosy and authentic, it's located a bit far from the old quarter but in a really cool part of Hanoi nonetheless!
We had to leave one day early to continue our trip to Cat Ba island and Mika called Booking.com for us and manage to cancel our 3rd night and she made us pay only the 2 nights we actually did!
Highly recommended! You have to take a taxi or walk 40min to go to the Old Quarter.
- Milica (10/5): Exceptional - What blew me away the most was my host Mika. She made sure to always be available for any questions I might have, in addition to taking me out for breakfast to have the most amazing, authentic food in the neighborhood and suggesting a bunch of places to visit in Hanoi.
The location was perfect for my taste too. Being situated far from crowds of tourists allows you to witness a real, genuine lifestyle of the people of the neighborhood. That being said, I found the homestay to still be near enough to all the major attractions. No complaints. The homestay exceeded my expectations and so did the host.
- Taiyo (10/5): Best place for travelers to meet other travelers. - Mika is always easygoing and full of hospitality.
She always cared about us.
In dorm, guests sleep on a Futon instead of bunk beds.
It reminds me of childhood sleepovers.
She speaks not only English but also Japanese.
- Makenzie (10/5): Avoid the tourist area and stay in this local Home! - Mika is an incredible lady and the location is amazing. You get to say in an authentic neighborhood, which still has easy access to transportation. After Mika realized I wasn't interested in sightseeing, she recommended me a fabulous cafe with a view. She offered me early check in and late check out and the vibe is just so relaxed. I loved everything about my stay. Hanoi is a bit too busy of a city for me.
- Milan (10/5): Felt like family - Mika is a fabulous host, she treated me like family and gave me a very memorable experience in Hanoi
- Jhessa (10/5): Exceptional - Mika is absolutely incredible. Thanks to her and the wonderful fellow travelers, my stay was truly delightful. Mika didn't just feel like a host, but more like a friend. Despite being tired, she joined us for every dinner and her recommendations were absolutely top-notch! I highly recommend choosing Mika for your stay ⭐️
- Annabel (10/5): Exceptional - Mika is such a lovely person, making sure you are provided with everything you need. The room was really cozy and clean, hidden away from the big street and in the heart of a interesting vietnamese neigbourhood :)
- Đạt (10/5): Exceptional - For a stranger like me, when I first came to Hanoi, I had the opportunity to meet the owner of Mika Homestay, she is very enthusiastic, approachable, friendly, and hospitable. The accommodation is comfortable and fully equipped, close to the city center but quiet, peaceful, and safe.
- Ilaria (10/5): Great stay!! - Great location, outside the touristic area and right within the locals.
Mika is amazing, such a lovely and caring person. She brought me around with her to try different local food for breakfast.
The room is really pretty and cosy.
I highly recommend it! Nothing.
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional - I fully enjoyed my stay at Mika’s homestay (private room with bathroom) and couldn’t recommend it more!
The location: I had no problem finding the homestay. Very accessible by a Grab bike, and walking home from the city center only took me under 30 minutes which I loved. Plenty of affordable food, coffee, and laundry options nearby.
The room: has everything I needed and wished for, after long days of traveling or exploring the city, going back to this cozy and cute place felt like a little sanctuary.
Mika: is the kindest host I’ve ever encountered! Mika will definitely make your stay an unforgettable experience, thinking of every little detail of how to make your stay the most comfortable. Next time I’m in Hanoi, I know where I’m staying 💜
- Joyce (10/5): Exceptional - I loved spending 4 nights at Mika's place. She is a very lovely and helpful host. She recommended lots of great restaurants, activities etc. and even organised an early transport to the airport for me.
This homestay is, as the name suggests, simple but very cosy. Both Mika and the other travellers made this stay a great and wholesome experience.
I hope to be back some day!
- Tatsu (10/5): You'll experience the authentic local Hanoi - The location. You'll get to stay in the middle of authentic Hanoi, which is totally different from touristy areas like the Old Quarter. And the host, Mika, will make sure you're happy and comfortable. During my stay, there were always some fresh fruits on the kitchen table. If she's not too busy, she might even show you around the city, which she nicely did for me. So many awesome local foods and coffee, laundry only costs about 10k per kg, every walk you take around the area feels like a real adventure. I could never have had such a wonderful experience unless Mika provided us this place. After all, aren't we all traveling for this kind of experiences? The facilities of the dormitory house is a bit worn out. Mika does her best to keep them nice and clean, I got nothing to complain for the price I paid, but if you're sensitive about those things I recommend a private room which is located just across the street and is also very reasonably priced.
- Pablo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tim (10/5): Exceptional - Mika was just great. It was an absolute pleasure being shown the city and talking to her. The location is also very quiet, since it isn't located right next to a road. Instead you need to go through many smaller alleys to get there.
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - Mika is fantastic. You will stay in her house, so be respectful. My stay there was amazing. The house is inside a picturesque maze neighborhood. Mika will go out of her way to make you feel comfortable. Ask for tips depending on your tastes. She wrote me the perfect day route. I have nothing to complain
- Luca (10/5): Exceptional - My room was spacious and clean, simple and cozy as the name suggests. But there are 2 things that really make the difference between a regular good homestay and Mika's: the host herself, who is fantastic, speaks fluent English and is super helpful, and the location, which is slightly off the ultra touristic and crowded area but still very close to everything and will give you the chance to see the life a real local community from the inside. This isn't just a nice place to stay, this should be advertised as an authentic experience you would otherwise miss by following the crowds. Definitely recommended, especially if you consider yourself more of a traveller than a tourist.
- Misato (10/5): Exceptional - Mika took me many good local restaurants and every place are so nice!! She managing herself so, it must be hard, but she is very helpful to guests.I got a good memory. Thank you so much. The place is difficult to find, but she send you information by message on check in day, so you can find how to go there.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional - The host was amazing! So kind and knowledgeable and made you feel at home.
- Sara (10/5): Mika homestay is the most cozy place to stay in Hanoi, out of the hecticness and noise of the city. - Everything, Mika was the star of the place. Staying at her homestay meant for me being taken care of and being treated as a friend. She made sure I felt like at home and gave me tips on the city's best spots and on Vietnam in general. I think it's also an awesome spot to start with your trip in Vietnam. Nothing. Everything was great and thanks to Mika my time in Hanoi was unforgettable.
