Guest Reviews
- Deo (10/5): -
- Guest (10/5): nice little spot not too far away and just lively enough without being noise. - convenient location with amenities around. no complaints.
- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wai (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice and kind hosts!
Very convenient place as it's close to 2 different train services. There is also many food stalls/restaurants around since it's a shopping street.
- Hansen (10/5): Exceptional - I loved how friendly the staff were and the location of the place.
- Jessica (8/5): Extremely convenient location but the room was uncomfortable - The owners were fantastic people and very helpful and nice and tried to deal with any issues I had immediately. I also had some great chats with them. The location was also fantastic, being located in the middle of Jujo Shopping Street/Shoutengai, and I could literally step out the door and walk into the 7-Eleven store, open 24/7, ten steps away before the lodging property's door swung close behind me. There was a lot of cheap food and other things in the shopping street area, as well as another outdoor shopping street to the northeast past Higashi-Jujo Station. They are not kidding when they say this is a "best location" room, if you like to be away from tourist attractions and smack in the middle of convenient "local" living.
That station, on the Keihin-Tohoku Line, was also quite convenient, and together with the nearer Jujo Station basically meant that I was at most one train transfer away from most things. The room was very, very small, but this also meant that when I turned on the heater/air conditioning, the room temperature changed very fast. The lodging was also very clean, I only saw one insect there in my entire seven day stay and it was already dead.
Lastly, I liked the bathroom quite a bit, it was fairly large and there was a large collection of soaps and shampoos to try out. I think that this was one of the better bathrooms in the booking.com properties that I've tried in Japan, and I've stayed at quite a few of them! The room is really small, but that wasn't too bad, what made it worse was the double-decker bunk, which took up 60% of the room and was absolutely terrible. It's too small, and as an average height person (165 cm) I was not able to sit up straight in the lower bed, and the room only had an overhead ceiling light so the upper bunk blocked light from reaching the lower bed. I asked them about this, and they provided me with an adjustable floor chair that helped a bit, but that was also uncomfortable. I used my bed to sit on and used the floor chair as a table for my laptop, but it was very awkward. The single pillow was also flat.
Since I was a solo traveller, they did not provide a mattress for the top bunk and I used it to put my suitcase on instead. But I would not recommend this for a two person stay. The reason is that the heater/aircon is pointed right at the top bunk, so if someone was sleeping on it, they would get a fever or a cold from the air being blown directly at them at full blast. Plus if both beds are occupied then there is no room to lay down and open two people's luggage unless they only have small backpacks.
I felt like I was staying in a prison due to the size of the room and the inability to sit up straight in my own bed. In addition, there are 3-5 other rooms that get rented out in the same house as well (none of those are on booking.com though?), and as people walk around the house, their luggage and walking made a lot of noise. Some days there there were elephants STOMPING on the floor past 11 pm at night, it was so irritating. Whether it was the owners, or other guests, people did not know how to walk silently.
All the wooden floors need carpet to prevent this noise. And the double decker bunk needs to go. I saw that the room next to mine just had a mattress on the floor, this room should match that. The 3rd floor toilet's bidet also did not fit and was broken from Day 2 onwards.
- Joshua (10/5): If you are looking for a budget place to stay look no further. Location is like a 5 min walk from the station and there - Amazing host, amazing location, amazing price.
- Alan (9/5): Calm place, good location, helpful host. Would recommend! - Allen was a super host, helped me with all my questions and always offered any other help. He genuinely seemed to care about my well-being during my stay.
The room was a good size for all my needs, good price-quality ratio, the house and location are pretty calm, which is nice after a day of walking through shibuya or shinjuku. Never had any trouble whatsoever. Would deffinitely recommend Room might be a little bit small for the needs of some people. I personally just liked having a room/floor for myself where i could have some peace and not bother other people like a hostel.
- Luthfi (10/5): Exceptional - This room is definitely the best for it's prices. The facilities are pretty good. If you are looking for a homestay kind of experience. This is definitely one of your best choices.
The neighbourhood is also very lively and cheap. If you like thrifting, there is a good store nearby that you can go and take a look at.
Food is definitely cheap here. This place is surrounded by "shoutengai" (a kind of market). So the food prices are certainly competitive here (in a good way). None
