Guest Reviews
- Tracy (7/5): -
- Heidi (9/5): Affordable, comfortable and central to our plans for the area. We would stay again! - Donna was a delightful host. She went out of her way to ensure our group had a comfortable stay. The room was spacious, well equipped and clean. Breakfast had a selection of fresh fruit, crumpets, toast and cereals with the added bonus of a visit from Big Boy the kangaroo.
- Maras (10/5): Very comfortable and fun stay. - Wonderful place for a couple nights. Gil was most entertaining and extremely helpful and we loved feeding his pet kangaroo named Big Boy. Thank you Gil š Nearest shops and restaurants 20 mins away. No dinning possibilities except breakfast.
- HINGUANT (10/5): Superbe rencontre - Pour les voyageurs qui souhaitent un monde aseptisƩ: fuyez! Pour ceux qui veulent une belle rencontre, aller voir Gil et son kangourou. On a adorƩ! Merci Gil pour ton accueil et tes formidables conseils
- margaret (5/5): False advertising on websites - Our room Aviary was clean, given free access to adjoining room. The bathroom is massive, yes no door, but ensuite is private from sleeping area. Hostess nice. Six of seven rooms available above eatery, other section opposite the pool closed. Daintree Wild B&B photos on various websites reflect it in its prime opening period @2017, not what itās now. Zoo closed post COVID, no free WIFI or paid, pool closed and not accessible. The outside surroundings are run down and uninviting.
The buffet breakfast is a limited choice of 3 cereals, tea/coffee & mango juice, bread or crumpets for toasting served between 8-9am. The same fruit is served every morning if not consumed. Dirt and spider webs hang from the ceiling. Poor lighting with many lights or lamps missing globes. Microwave not working. Itās a budget place, ok for overnight stay.
- Rowan (8/5): Lovely rustic environment to explore the Daintree - Extremely friendly host, made you feel very welcome and at home
- Dennis (10/5): Exceptional - Large room, very comfortable bed and excellent shower, Nice continental breakfast and friendly host.
- Binaisa (1/5): Neglected - The photos on here are nothing like it. We were shocked that how could this business still running.
This has been neglected. Itās literally a jungle.
The rooms smells but reasonably comfortable bed Iām glad. Way too pricey. We felt scammed
- Eric (8/5): Very good -
- Andrew (8/5): Very good - Lovely owner and his breakfast juice is amazing.
- Moods (10/5): A little piece of Rustic heaven - If you want 5 star luxury, this is not for you. If, like me, you want a comfortable place to stay with an excellent host, then this is for you. The rooms are large with air-con, the bed, king size. A great walk-in shower and the basic trimmings. The breakfast is more than adequate, and Gil, the host, will do all that he can to ensure you get what you need. He will also give you a lot of info regarding the area.
Yes, the place is a little rustic, but it was perfect for me. I will be going back. There was nothing to dislike for me.
- Tina (8/5): We were taken care of by very friendly staff. - King size comfy bed.
Modern style room. Grounds were not well maintained.
- Tracey (10/5): Donna was absolutely lovely. - Love to share my toast with their friendly kangaroo. Internet didnāt work in the room but we were surrounded by forest, hills and trees.
- David (9/5): Superb - Wonderful host, a real Aussie legend. Super helpful and friendly. The room was great, very spacious and clean. Nothing.
- Michael (1/5): Just donāt - Nothing Everything
- Ross (5/5): Passable -
- Sara (9/5): Beautiful area, Gill was a great host! - Beautiful area and comfortable accommodation Missing availability to cook your own food for dinners & the fridge was very small to accommodate family food.
- Pamela (5/5): This was a disappointing below par, overpriced stay. - Soft towels, comfortable bed and large room Not as advertised- no animals, run down. Some things didnāt work properly
- Tracey (5/5): Well meaning but missed the mark - It was very quiet at night. If you are looking for a unique Far North Queensland experience this might fit the bill but it wasnāt the experience we were after.
Following COVID and successive floods the property is looking very rundown. It is also located on the highway, away from any meal options or services. Breakfast was a simple spread of fruit, cereal and toast, which suited us fine.
The owner, Gil, was very friendly but was critical of many of the tourist attractions in the area. We found these attractions were actually very interesting and enjoyable, particularly for visitors who had never been to the Daintree before.
- Kathryn (9/5): Superb - A warm welcome from Gill the owner, who went out of his way to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. An interesting and characterful place to stay in a former wildlife park. Facilities clean and well equipped. Breakfast included was an added bonus.
- Gail (8/5): A short stay with a friendly genuine Aussie - Extra friendly host to talk to while at the accommodation. Great breakfast. Large room and extra large bathroom Got bitten by insects while wandering around property.
- Jones (10/5): Fantastic hidden gem with charm - Great hidden gem with charm, good brekkie and great service! Loved the friendly owner, Gil and the kangaroo that said hello as well! Highly recommend! Great spot to stay thatās a bit private but still close to Mossman and Daintree. It is run down but I think that adds to the charm to be honest.
- Shayna (10/5): Authentic Wilderness Stay - We were pleasantly surprised by the rooms which were very spacious and clean. It was sad to find out how much COVID-19 impacted this place but we left feeling grateful we were able to experience this bnb after they were able to reopen. Gil had enjoyable stories about the place and was an attentive and funny host, adding to the authenticity of this Australian wilderness experience. Thank you Gil
- Danny (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tony (1/5): Decided to move elsewhere. Tried communicating with the owners to explain we were leaving but no response. Would defini - We really wanted to like this property but itās a long way from how itās described. No pool or animals and generally feels unloved and run down. Room smelt quite unpleasant. Dim and dingy reception area. Generally felt unloved and dilapidated. Checked out without staying one night as my wife was already feeling unwell so headed to a cleaner, more welcoming location.
- Noleen (9/5): Easy access to the Daintree forest and Cape tribulation from the property. - Rooms very spacious and clean. Host was very helpful and friendly. Highly recommended.
- Patricia (10/5): Uniquely great place. Don't heed the naysayers. - Gil, the proprietor, is a storehouse of local knowledge and stories... wonderful man. The sleeping room was spacious, clean, perfect. The rest of the property was wonderfully "au naturel." We regretted not staying a second night but we'd already made reservations down the road. Sadly, covid had forced him to
downsize his little zoo which you could see how much he'd put into it but he still had gentle parrots raised from birth and a friendly kangaroo. Loved it Not really much.. we had our own car so the fact that stores and restaurants weren't real close was no big deal. It was nice that it was sufficiently far from all the touristy trappings. Don't let the funky exterior keep you from a wonderfully relaxing stay.
- Deborah (10/5): Exceptional - Great location. Wonderfully clean room with all amenities.
- Susan (6/5): Pleasant -
- Eve (4/5): Service excellent. Donna very knowledgeable and helpful. Room spacious and clean. Breakfast great. P -
- Chris (1/5): Bad -
- Sandra (7/5): Good - The bed was big and spacious Mouldy top sheet
- Kirstan (8/5): Very good - This is an amazing little spot, recommend to anyone who wants a quiet get away.
- Anita (10/5): I want to live like Donna's - All.
- Aico (7/5): A nice place in The Daintree - The room was good. Nice bed and nice showers. The host (Gill) was very kind and a great chit-chatter. š You can see that this location was hit hard by COVID. Itās obvious that Gill and his wife had to make a hard choice closing down the zoo. The outside of the location therefore looks a bit uncared for, but never judge a book by its cover. The rooms and the company of the owners make up for this a lot.
- Hayden (9/5): Unique, comfortable and a bit wild - Really friendly service. Large room with huge bathroom. Very unique experience being able to tour the former zoo. The location works well in terms of being able to venture out to explore the region The communal areas have charm but could use some sprucing up
- Peter (9/5): This was an enjoyable stay. - The hostess was very friendly and helpful. This establishment is in a rural and picturesque setting. Although it is situated near a main road, traffic noise was not really an issue. The room was spacious, modern and comfortable. The breakfast provided was quite good and included yummy mango juice made from the fruit from the hostess's fruit orchard. The honey also originated from the property. This is not a complaint, but just information for others. All of the rooms are upstairs so if you have heavy luggage, you will have to carry it up the stairs.
- Wendy (2/5): Very poor - Size of room. Overall initial impression was an abandoned zoo & accommodation facility. Booking.com website photos were fraudulent and misleading. Felt trapped with having to stay in uncomfortable surroundings and being deceived. Suggest booking.com check & update photos of venue.
- Crompton (9/5): Superb - Nice Buffet Breakfast with beautiful fresh mango juice.
- Michael (10/5): Fantastic rooms in a quiet location close to Daintree Village. - Fantastic facilities, comfortable bed, well-appointed and spotlessly clean rooms. The owners were gems; wonderful to chat to, friendly and always willing to assist. Zero to complain about.
- Shane (10/5): Adventure riders must stay. - Perfect for adventure riders heading to the tip. Owners were super friendly and helpful.
- Courtney (9/5): I would highly recommend this BnB. - Breakfast was good and served fresh delicious mango juice. The host, Donna was attentive and a great conversationalist. The BnB is located in a quiet peaceful location. Our navigation system did not provide correct directions to the BnB A word of caution to new quest about this possible glitch is advisable.
- Bryanna (1/5): Bad -
- Corinne (2/5): This hotel is truly appalling - dirty, dark, isolated and vastly over-priced. - Room and bathroom were spacious. Both the bedroom and the breakfast area were dirty. The area around the breakfast area and dish washing sink had not been cleaned for ages. The breakfast was very basic. The public areas were very dark, and we had to carry bags up stairs in the dark as the lights had not been switched on. The location was isolated with no attractions or amenities. The price was outrageous given the state of the hotel and its remote location.
- Neil (8/5): Very good -
- Scott (8/5): Unusual but comfortable accommodation at a former zoo - We enjoyed our stay here. Gil is a legend (we didn't get to meet Donna as she was ill). Room was comfortable and had character, we liked the decor. The property suited us as a 2 night stay to explore the daintree. It's very close to the ferry and river tours. It won't suit everyone. Since the lack of tourists during Covid, the Zoo has closed and the place is a shadow of what I imagine it's former glory would have been. You'll also need to Cart your gear up 2 flights of stairs. It suited us, but don't come expecting a conventional hotel, it's something a bit different.
- Brigitte (8/5): A good experience. - The location was central for sightseeing.
Continental Breakfast was laid out nicely. We can suggest eggs to be added to menu.
We enjoyed access to public lounge area. Everything was fine.
- Earl (10/5): If I every return to Draintree I would love to stay there again. - Donna was the perfect hostess. She was genuinely concerned about her guests. She fixed an excellent breakfast and made sure I could stay Vegan. She also stayed up in the evening to make sure I retuned as planned. The only good WiFi was in the lobby, which is not a serious problem.
- Joseph (8/5): Very good -
- Suzanne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Catherine (8/5): Very good -
- Joanne (8/5): Very good -
- Julie (10/5): Awesome Aussie adventure in style & comfort. - This is the best of Australia! Sit and do nothing amongst the palm trees on ur balcony, FEed a kangaroo, wake up with the bird calls in glamourous accommodation, fluffy large towels, high thread sheet count, refreshing pool swim.
Donna stories of previously running a zoo on the property are worth the cost alone, throw in Substational breakfast, you'd be mad to stay anywhere else!
The rooms were stylish, modern, luxurious, massive shower head, ensuite, felt like an oasis. Massive king bed that's comfy., lovely chairs in room The ridiculous reviews stating stairs were hard, it was 15 covered steps, the people who arrived late and couldn't enjoy the atmosphere, how is that the hosts problem? The wi fi was fine on the deck and in my room (samsung). The outside was different, not drab, how many times do u get to stay in a place that used to be a zoo you drongos!
Keep this place a secret - I'd go back in a heart beat. Donna the host went above and beyond with all our requests and did everything to make our lives easy. Thank you š š
- Earl (9/5): Superb - Hostess is very personable and concerned about her guests. She even waited up for me when I was late getting back in the evening.. The only inconvenience was that Wi-Fi was only good in the lobby.. however, on vacation, one should not need Wi-Fi very often.
- Karen (8/5): Initially off to uncertain start but ending in a very pleasant, enjoyable and comfortable stay. - Spacious attractively decorated and well appointed room. Atmospheric surrounds. Very well located for our purposes. Extremely comfortable beds. Friendly, informative and efficient service. Tasty and well presented breakfast. Unattractive, gloomy exterior and initial entry. Name of property sign-posted differently to booking name leading to confusion locating the property. Lack of provision and no means of preparing dinner in an isolated location. No prior advice of access to rooms being up 2 flights of difficult stairs.
- Sue (8/5): Very good -
- Stanley (9/5): pleasant and comfortable - the breakfast was very good; location is appropriately located Our planned flight was cancelled and we arrived very late at night, so we missed the opportunity to enjoy the envirionment, but the staff was very friendly, making our stay very pleasant.
- Petria (8/5): Very good -
- Janene (6/5): Pleasant - lovely hosts, very friendly A bit run down due to Covid
- Melissa (9/5): Relaxed, felt at home and enjoyed the company of Donna and Gill - Donna and Gill were amazing hosts who were exceptionally helpful and spent time chatting with us. The rooms were beautifully set up with a lot of room. The bathrooms were also a great size. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back. There was nothing we didnāt enjoy
- Chi (8/5): Happy stay. - the bed is good . Good room size. Beautiful interior decoration. Breakfast is really nice with tasty jam and juice. The host is excellent. We arrive really late because of flight cancellation. She insists to wait for us to show us our room and give me many travel advice around Daintree. no wifi.
- Mary (10/5): Exceptional - Very peaceful. Room was huge. Liked sitting on verandah and watching nature go by. Host was wonderful to chat to. Breakfast was lovely. Largest bed i have ever slept in. It is bigger than a King. Pillows were too soft but only a minor thing. Everything else was great.
- Carolyne (10/5): Exceptional - Staff were very helpful and friendly, extensive knowledge of the area - met local kangaroo and white-lipped tree frog at accommodation, living up to its name "Daintree Wild"
- Wendy (6/5): quiet jungle lodge - convenient to daintree ferry, wonderful hosts zoo was closed, remote location
- Vimal (8/5): Excellent host and spacious
room. - Amazing host, the owner and keeper, Donna! She was super warm and friendly. Goes out of her way to help you with your requests.
Rooms and toilets were super clean Communal areas like breakfast tables and chairs could be cleaner. Too many mosquitoes. But you would expect it as they have tried to keep it nature friendly. The views are straight into huge trees while having breakfasts..
- Sally (7/5): Good -
- Johnson (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tack-boon (3/5): Poor -
- Shai (8/5): Very good -
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ehmke (1/5): Bad -
- Sydney (10/5): Room in a zoo - Super friendly owner and a beautiful property. Lovely birds kept on property with a super friendly kangaroo. Very nice rooms and the common area downstairs is open to the outdoors and very lovely.
- Cole (8/5): Very good -
- Karina (8/5): Surprising - Local knowledge and friendliness of owner. The fresh mango juice was amazing. Beautiful comfortable room. Great to go and see the remaining birds. Had read reviews and seen a lil of what to expect. Areas a bit out dated.
- Max (10/5): Very friendly, easy to get on with and accommodating host with great knowledge - quirky, tropical b n b in a good location.
Great size room with great facilities None
- Matthew (10/5): A relaxing finish to camping in the daintree - The property is lovely and homely, and Gil extremely friendly and up for a chat.
Nice to have the animals still on the property come to say hello.
Common area is nice and large to lounge and hang out in.
Rooms are large with a nice new bathroom. Lighting was dim in the common areas and entrance. You wouldn't know the place was open unless you ventured in. This was confusing when arriving but a brighter and more inviting entrance would remedy it easy enough.
- Greg (3/5): Very disappointing. This place should be shut down. - The owner (we didn't interact with or see any other staff), seemed at least on the surface, genuinely interested in us enjoying our stay. The rooms were fine although several elements of cleanliness were lacking (hair in shower trap, cobwebs, soaps left from previous guests, mould in bathroom, air fresheners that looked like theyd been ther 10 years and didnt work). The breakfast supplied was ok except we noticed some of the spreads were mouldy and decided to use our own.
Common areas were usually dark, dusty and uncared for. The lights in the kitchen and dining area were mostly off definitely hiding the unsanitary state of most of the property. Cobwebs, wasp nests and general dirt and grime a ere a feature on most surfaces. Only stayed due to the potentially costly cancellation policy.
The advertised animal experience was disappointing and sad. The few animals they have left looked sad, lonely and not well attended to.

- Tony (9/5): excellent - We very much enjoyed our stay, rooms were huge, and the small table and chairs outside our room were perfect for relaxing with an afternoon cold drink. Donna was the perfect host, chatty and informative. Taking the walkway to see the crocodiles in the lagoon, the kangaroos and feeding the emu topped off our stay.
- Steve (8/5): Overall very good. - Continental breakfast with fresh mango juice and local honey. Really good.
- Cherelle (2/5): Needs lots of attention - Room was clean. 15 minutes from daintree Village. Sadly since covid it is very run down. Very dark entrance, especially at night. 1 emu. Pics on website definitely when it was flourishing. Host was friendly. Continental breakfast was toast, cereal or a couple different fruits. Air con extremely noisy on outside wall. All rooms are alongside each other up stairs. Cannot see any birds or anything from rooms.

- Smith (7/5): We enjoyed our stay and felt very close to the rainforest wildlife. - Itās quirky, natural feel. Itās an old zoo so some animals are still there. Donna was a lovely host. The general feel was that is quite tired. The breakfast was very simple- cereal and toast. Same every day.
