We got a nice upgrade, which was nice from the concierge. Staff was a bit robotic especially in the Restaurent. Like abiding by rules instead of making us feel welcome. Some facilities were not working properly. Price is too high versus service.

Every design, every part of the room, every cor - First of all, it’s gated community. 24 hours guard in the front. Every unit has its own private entrance and private space. And I believe every unit has its own view of the ocean.

• Julia (8/5): Very good - This was the final and also the most expensive hotel on our six-stop journey through Costa Rica – unfortunately, it ended up being only the second-worst. Four of the six hotels we stayed at offered a significantly better overall experience. The grounds and the room are undoubtedly beautiful, but they do not justify the steep price in any way. Service is decent, but for a 5-star hotel in this price range, it's rather average. The same applies to the food: it's good in terms of taste, but absolutely overpriced. During our trip, we enjoyed much better culinary experiences at far more reasonable prices. All in all, it's a nice hotel, but the value for money just isn't there. If you're expecting luxury, you'll only get above-average quality at best. There's definitely room for improvement. In the end, it’s a pretty hotel that doesn’t live up to its promises. For the price we paid, we had far better experiences elsewhere on our trip.

• Thomas (8/5): We had a wonderful stay but some minor issues stopped it from being perfect which was a shame. - Wonderful pool and poolside bar. Clean. Comfy beds. Nice outlook. Short walk to a lovely beach. Free sunscreen available at the pool is a nice touch. Food in the main restaurant in the evening wasn’t to our liking, which was a shame because it had a wonderful position and outlook. We ate outside of the hotel most nights. The welcome needs to be tightened up. Our driver was told to drop us off at the gate, there was no one there to welcome us. We then had to walk to the reception because there was no golf cart. There was also works going on at the entrance so the initial impression wasn’t great tbh and not what I expected of a hotel at this price point. You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression. Room had damage. Communication from front desk was poor. Had to chase timings for pick up for tours. Wasn’t told that the full cost of the tour hadn’t been put on the room and had to pay more on the day, which wasn’t an issue but would’ve been nice to have been told.

The rooms are extremely comfortable and the architecture is lovely! Loved waking up to monkeys outside of our room! Food and drinks are very expensive for what you get. $300 dinners and leaving still hungry.

Creative luxurious bedroom bathroom and common areas. Mostly delightful staff and being taken around by buggy's was helpful given the steep gradients Reception staff always busy. Watch out for a last-minute mini-bar scam - we settled the bill to then be informed that we taken whiskey (the most expensive!) and a bottle of Evian water, we hadn't touched the minibar. However we'd returned to the room just before check out time and saw the bottles had been removed from the minibar and were left on a glass table which looked strange. We argued and they didn't charge us thankfully
• Yvonne (8/5): Wonderful setting! - The staff was very attentive and kind. Food in the restaurant was delicious. The room was extremely comfortable and spacious. Loved all the pools. We enjoyed the beach. The location of the hotel is magical you feel like being up in the tree tops. We observed 3 of the 4 types of monkeys playing around, so fun. We thought the DJ was a fun event. We visited during the rainy season. Because of the steep decline of the slippery terrain (safety reasons) we had to be transported everywhere. That was a smooth and fantastic service with friendly drivers. We just wished that we could have been more physically active during our stay.

Even nature was on our side with a sloth on the premises and a whale jumping in the distance.!! Walking around can be a challenge due to steep walk ways. But the Hotel is offering internal transport services.

The place is incredible, so perfectly designed to fit with its surroundings. The staff were amazing, the food incredible and facilities and views a dream. What a place… We were lucky with our room but some rooms were further down and it’s all on a hill…however a quick call to reception and a golf buggy will pick you up so no problem! Also it rained so can confirm that the hills are perfectly safe when wet!

Staff were very professional and helpful. Built on a steep mountain side when it rains it’s very slippery so you must get the golf cart to take you places. They were very lovely and the golf cart would come immediately, but it wasn’t conducive to walking around. The beach was very disappointing and a very steep ride down.

• Jonathan (8/5): Luxury beachside property that needs to work out a few kinks - The rooms and pools are beautiful, and the property is near the area’s best beaches. We appreciated that the property provided sunscreen and bug spray. The staff are all very friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a good experience while we were staying at the property. We enjoyed a very good wine dinner at Arbol restaurant, and we enjoyed the drinks we ordered at poolside bars. We had a terrible experience at the spa. Out of the four guests in our party, only one of us enjoyed the massage. All four of us agreed the massage table head cradles were extremely uncomfortable. It seemed like three of our therapists were still training, and the massages were very expensive. There was no relaxation room, and showers were only available in some rooms. We get massages often and have never experienced such a bad massage, even at cheap shopping mall places. We didn’t enjoy any of our breakfasts at the property. We kept ordering different things hoping something would be good, but we never found anything we liked. I recommend going off the property for breakfast. Staff were very friendly and attentive once we arrived, but the property was very slow to respond to emails and messages before we arrived. It sometimes took 1 week to get a response. We were also given incorrect information about one of our tours we booked through the property. Communication needs to be improved.

• Silvana (10/5): Fabulous and we want to go back! - Everything! The design is done with incredibly good taste. The location/plot is full of wildlife. We went to 5 tours prior to our stay here to see wildlife and we saw less than what is on site (all types of monkeys, birds, sloths from close proximity, etc). The beach is also nice, black sand, but we preferred to stay at the pools. The rooms are fabulous and designed with impeccable taste. Regarding the restaurant, we often go to these elegant hotels but usually the restaurant does not stand up to the hotels. This is NOT the case for Arbol. The restaurant, Arbol, was great: breakfast, lunch and dinner, it was so good we ate all meals there! It is refined and delicious. Staff is also extremely attentive and helpful. The gym is small but sufficient for 1-2 trainings. We will definitely come back. Hard to find something we did not like. Reading other reviews, people say it is expensive. We believe given the quality of everything, it is adequate. What might be expensive are the drinks. There is a happy hour from 4-6pm though.

The service is superb and they go out of their way. It was our anniversary and they gave us a complimentary bottle to celebrate. They also upgraded us without asking. Truly a phenomenal experience- food, drink and accommodation superb. Nothing. Only qualm is the offer of a free breakfast which was a fruit platter but the cooked food was so good we were delighted to pay.

With any issues had , they responded promptly. The location is great. We had access to wonderful variety of tropical life. A toucan set outside our balcony and entertain us with wonder song. Truly amazing. If you and tropical life at arm distance while restingonyour balcony or in your hot tub, this is the place. The closest beach was generally difficult to access. everyone relies on the golf cart rides to get one the most of the way, with rest a bit difficult for older folks. The beach itself is very nice at low tide. The other less than optimal experience was the dining room. Generally, the foods OK but could use improvement

The swimming pool is fantastic and we loved private the beach area. The room are very beautiful. The restaurant is outstanding. It's a top-end hotel and so are the prices. That's okay but sometimes the drinks are overpriced.
• Kevin (10/5): Very Beautiful Stay. - The staff was amazing and very kind. The food was delicious. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. To get to the beach you needed to call for someone to drive you down in a golf cart, it was a private beach and there was a staff member down there to tend to your needs. Sunsets were hard to see unless you drove a few minutes to the local beach.

Breakfast in particular should be swifter, with a couple of extra options, and could be included (only fruit is included, which is great, but falls short for this price point).

Shrimp pasta wasn’t good dessert was eh. And everything is very overpriced. They didn’t even give the rooms free water bottles for 1000$ a night in a room least I would expect is some water bottles. First day they left the food from room service in the room all day. Then they had it in a bag outside the front door all night some animals came and ate it and made a mess. Also checking in was insane it was like buying a house. I’d passport credit card deposit return credit card even tho I booked it on booking.com had to go thru all that.

The private pool at our villa was a real bonus, where we had daily wildlife coming to visit! A magical place to stay.

The electrical cars were a “must”. The beach had difficult access, to get to the sand and lots of rocks.

• A (10/5): I would definitely recommend and return to this hotel - I was in a villa with an ocean view. I was able to see the sun rise and set everyday. There was a large balcony with a seating area, lounge area and hottub. The room was large in size, including the bathroom. There was a fully functional kitchen if cooking was needed (I do not cook on vacay). Overall very satisfied. The food options for in room dining were very sparse and only included lunch/dinner items at that. For the moments I wanted a private meal, my options were limited.

Exquisite attention to every detail, amazing rooms and the bathroom was unreal! The beautiful mosaic work every where was amazing! The staff went 110% and above! Nestled in the jungle with gorgeous views! Crazy wildlife sounds at night! The pools were gorgeous, they took us down by golf cart to the beach, as it’s pretty steep to walk. Byron and Randol were exceptionally kind and helpful… I can’t say enough good things about the wonderful staff!! Nothing… it was just an amazing experience staying there!!

The bed, and all the other furnishings, were super comfortable. We picked a room with an Ocean View and it did not disappoint as the view was amazing and the terrace was huge and could easily fit a number of persons. Lastly, the service was very good as all the staff are very friendly and attentive. Also, the WiFi here was very good as it worked pretty much everywhere on the property. The only complaint I have is that I wished they had a little shop of some sort on property that sold snacks, fruit, local coffee, souvenirs, etc. Maybe its in the works, but if not they should consider something as sometimes

It was a great stay, the pool is perfect, with monkeys just around the pool jumping (not annoying or dangerous) The prices of the food and drinks are very very expensive! The hotel has a lot of ups and downs, they offer golf carts to move between rooms and pool and etc.. however, when we checked put it was very early in the morning, we had to take the luggages ourselves by walking, with the help of the security guide, we were going up and my husband fell down and git injured..

The overal - Despite my recent stay at this hotel being clouded by extensive, unexpected construction work, there were some notable bright spots that showcased the potential for an exceptional hospitality experience. Firstly, the hotel manager deserves special mention. Confronted with a situation not of their own making, they made commendable attempts to rectify the issues. Their offer to exchange rooms, though unsuccessful due to continued construction issues, reflected a sincere effort to enhance my comfort during my stay. The hotel staff, across all areas - restaurant, beach, pool, and the buggy services very professional. Additionally, the buggy services were prompt and polite, adding a touch of convenience to the stay. The hotel is well-situated. Its enviable location, combined with its potential for providing excellent service, makes it a destination that should ideally be high on the list for any traveler. The comfort expected was significantly marred by pervasive construction work throughout the property. My stay in the penthouse, which promised premium comfort and serenity, was instead dominated by the sight and sounds of heavy machinery and the relentless hum of construction activity. The noise, starting from 8 am and lasting until 6 pm, was a constant disturbance. The accompanying smell from metalwork further added to the discomfort, serving as a continuous reminder of the construction just beyond my window. In an attempt to rectify the situation, the hotel manager offered an alternative suite. Unfortunately, the suggested room was in a similar predicament, facing another construction site. The sincere effort by the manager was appreciated, but the lack of a suitable alternative room was disappointing. The most unsettling aspect of this experience was the delayed notification about the construction. A mere day prior to my arrival is insufficient time for guests to adapt their plans.
