Guest Reviews
- Dana (9/5): Like a retreat, would definately return. - Dorian and jessie were amazing hosts who were so warm and welcoming and it felt more than a hotel. I had a single room so it could have been bigger.
- Leane (10/5): - L'endroit est magnifique, les chambres sont super surtout celle avec vue sur l'océan ! Et surtout le responsable est vraiment gentil, c'est quelqu'un d'incroyable
- Christoph (10/5): -
- Milica (10/5): Vivid! - Beautiful sunrise! Fiendly and helpful staff. Nice spot for yoga practice. Jungle vibes. Lovely breakfast. Everything felt so easy.
- Desiree (9/5): -
- Geordie (10/5): Mountainside retreat, ocean views, good vibes - Location, vibes, our host, Dorian, was the best, the animals, Gato & Sammy I loved everything
- Céline (10/5): - Very beautiful place surrounded by nature and very friendly staff. Possibility to see the sunrise and really good breakfast. Beautiful place to sit outside and to contemplate the nature. Thank you very much! :)
- Lorenzo (10/5): A true gem that captures the spirit of Costa Rica—beautiful, welcoming, and full of heart. - The experience on the property was truly exceptional. Dorian, the owner, is not only incredibly knowledgeable about the area but also deeply passionate about sharing it. His insight into the local nature and culture added a unique depth to our stay—almost like having a personal guide. The Chorotega wouldn’t have stood out nearly as much without his warm and welcoming presence. The only thing that could have made our stay even smoother would be clearer signage or a visible menu in the kitchen area. Having a well-marked list of available items and their prices would help guests know what’s on offer without needing to ask.
- Melissa (9/5): Didn’t want to leave - Lovely atmosphere. All staff were very helpful and friendly. Very chilled vibe. Stunning view and close to amenities. Restaurant food was really good. Felt relaxed straight away. Nothing really. Only things that could improve would be if food was available regularly in the evenings or ability to cook but there are plenty of places nearby. and more relaxing furniture on individual balconies but I know this is planned. Not a problem at all though.
- Cleo (8/5): Very good - Beautiful place, very kind people, comfortable bed We stayed near the yoga deck and people could look directly in our room from there, so it felt like we had less privacy
- Malgorzata (8/5): Very good - Good location, close to the beach and fabulous view from terrace. The owner and all staff - very nice and helpful! Good vibe! Room was very simple but with comfortable bed and balcony.
- Emily (4/5): No privacy, open air hostel. - The location was the one redeeming factor of this place, however it was on a busy road into town so you could hear traffic pretty clearly. Part of this was our fault for not looking at the description more closely, but this place is not a hotel, it’s a rustic hostel. There was clearly some upkeep that needed to be done. The rooms are open air with no AC and very thin walls, so there is NO privacy. The room we stayed in had a shared bathroom which was not very clean. Also the room we stayed in was right above the communal space so you heard every conversation and movement about. We were so uncomfortable we changed hotels and the owner made no attempts at a refund.
Live and learn, don’t book a non refundable hotel.
- Mikko (5/5): Passable - Unique place No mosquito net! These were biting we, and it was impossible to sleep. About 8 mosquitos in my room, and it was a very painful night. Outside, it was very dark, and you definitely need to bring your own headlamp and mosquito net. Ants were building nest inside my room. For the price, i wouldn't come here again, but it is a very interesting place. The plastic towel was provided, and it was disgusting to use. It was very clean, but it was impossible to dry you up because the towel is hydrophobic. So also bring your own towel.
- Indre (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amanda (8/5): Very good - Excellent location and views. Keep in mind it is very steep and difficult to climb. Room is cute, unfortunately we had an ant infestation but they took care of it. Could be better with a breakfast included. The climb, no air conditioning, expensive compared to similar accommodation.
- Mark (8/5): Very good - Staff and chef were wonderful. Sunrise was spectacular from main deck! Could be more comfortable with small things added.
- Elizabeth (9/5): Unique, beautiful views, friendly owner - Montezuma is a fun, lively town, and the beach is amazing. The host at this hotel was fascinating to talk to, and he has a lot of insights about the history of the area. There is a common area where you check in with an outstanding view of the ocean, where it's possible to meet and mingle with other guests. The breakfast was great. I had some trouble sleeping on a Friday night because the hotel is located on a hill, and there was noise from traffic. The host assured me that week nights are not as noisey, but I was only there one night.
- Piet (8/5): Stunning view with lovely host - Host Dorian and his team gave us a very warm welcome and we immediately felt at home. We were also given lots of worthwhile recommendations for the surrounding area.
Our room had a breathtaking view and a very comfortable bed. The common area also has a fantastic view and invites you to linger.
If you are looking for a hotel with a relaxed hostel vibe, this is the place for you. We had a wonderful time here and would come back any time :) As the accommodation is located next to a road, like most hotels in Montezuma, earplugs are recommended.
- Glenn (10/5): The Real Costa Rica - All meals were amazing. Carlos the chef prepared meals that overwhelmed us every time.
The owner Dorian and Andres and Jesse all made us feel welcome from the minute we arrived. We loved it all
- Susan (9/5): Superb -
- Gerry (7/5): Good - Location and views It’s kinda outdoors. No glass in the window openings so can be noisy
- Gregory (10/5): Exceptional -
- Susan (9/5): We had a fun time very helpful and kind place to enjoy the area. - Fab location in the jungle with views of the sea. Animals visiting .. monkeys, pzoti . A yoga deck and Dorian set up a great space for me to paint. Rooms are basic.. no glass windows only net so no aircon.
- Dagmar (10/5): It was love at first sight with this hotel! - The lovely crew and the amazing location !
- Pim (10/5): Amazing - The best view, the best atmosphere and a great host. You just have to sit down and watch the different animals up close.
- Becca (8/5): Very good -
- Qianwen (5/5): Passable -
- Ren (9/5): Superb -
- Laureana (10/5): Best views in Montezuma - Incredible place - amazing views. You don't want to leave. Right next door to the town - close to supermarkets, beach and restaurants. Amazing!!! Nothing
- Agnieszka (3/5): Poor - Host was very nice and helpful
We like shared kitchen well equipped False information :no beachfront and not two minutes walk to the sea Room very small not as in the description Absolutely not worth the money
For quality the price is too high
- Sasha (9/5): Superb -
- Madison (10/5): Amazing! - Great staff, view and location walking distance to town. Really enjoyed our stay :)
- Melissa-dawn (10/5): A perfect location in Montezuma - I really like how it was surrounded by trees and jungle. The room was perfect and the balcony had such a great view. Andre was extremely helpful and very welcoming. N/A
- Amerie (10/5): surrounded by nature! wonderful sunrises from the main deck. super friendly and helpful staff -
- Rocheford (8/5): I felt like I was in Paradise…. The staff were so friendly and helpful, especially setting up excursions. Would definite - The views were spectacular. Lived the colors. There was no AC :-)
- Mcelligott (9/5): Warm, great energy. Excellent location and amazing view. - The location and the people who owned it. Welcoming, and great to be around. The VIEW! Dorian does an amazing massage
- Christie (9/5): Thanks for an amazing stay! - We loved our stay here - we were welcomed by Andreas who was so friendly and gave us loads of recommendations. Our room had the most amazing views over the ocean, as did the communal area below. We got up each morning to watch sunrise and the owner Dorian always had a pot of coffee on ready for us which was so nice! They also have a lovely yoga platform and yoga mats which you can use whenever you want. All of the rooms are in a beautiful jungle setting so you often see lizards, monkeys and other animals. Highly recommend this place! Definitely not a negative as we loved this place, but if I were to pick something to improve it would be to make the rooms a bit more homely as they are quite basic
- Martinabelafonte (10/5): Exceptional - We loved our stay here! The owner and staff were so friendly and helpful! The owner provides amazing intuitive masasges that maybe just what the doctor ordered. This location is a 3-5 minute walk from town depending if you are going up or down the hill. While.the hill is a little tricky it is worth it for the amazing view of the ocean, and waking up to watch the sunrise from the main area is a must!! Best sunrise I have probably ever seen. We had a little tree house bungaloo that provdied me and my partner with some great privacy and felt like we had a little treehouse in the jungle. Super chill and lovely! There is some great wildlife around the property too. Thank you Dorian! - nothing I can think of!
- Sasha (9/5): Wildlife & stunning views - Great place full of character and wildlife. Watched the Monkeys daily while sitting on my balcony or from up on the main terrace. Amazing views and a great yoga terrace.
- Deborah (3/5): Friendliness of staff and their helpfulness - The huge deck overlooking the area, the monkeys, birds, the helpfulness of some staff Shared bathrooms should be cleaned daily, the kitchen area should throughly be cleaned more often, not just wiping down of counters, the foliage should be pruned and cut back to allow air flow, many small repairs needed, railings, pressure washing of steps
- Lisa (9/5): Great stay - highly recommended - Great location, lovely grounds and feels like you’re in the rainforest. Good facilities and lots of relaxing areas. Room was spacious and comfortable with a huge fan! Good bathroom facilities and coffee in the mornings. Andres is super helpful and friendly. Nothing - all good!
- Florian (10/5): Exceptional - Super friendly staff. Great location very close to Montezuma (1min to walk). Amazing view. Clean and lovely designed hotel. I would go again - 100%!
- Flannery (7/5): Good - The location is great. Quiet aside from the howler monkeys (and some random, repeated hitting sound in the middle of the night coming from the casita where the aggressive dog seemed to live.) The staff was rather casual. Cree, who greeted me, was very friendly and welcoming.
I seemed to be the only guest, but when I encountered the owner, the yoga teacher and 2 young men and a young woman, on separate occasions, who appeared to work there, no one seemed engaged in welcoming me or introducing themselves as staff. I initiated my introductions and felt as though I was interrupting. The owner knew nothing about transportation in the area.
None of this would have mattered to me had there not been 3 dogs on the property, one of whom belonged to a couple who seemed to work and stay there. The dog was unleashed and aggressive. I'm good with dogs, but I did fear that this one might bite. There was no attempt to introduce me to the dog, though they heard or saw him bark and snap at me. There was no acknowledgement of my discomfort.
I had to walk past or near this dog en route to my room and the bathroom, or he would approach my rooms outdoor seating area and bark and growl.
I mentioned this when leaving to little reaction. Dogs are the responsibility of the owner. If you're not going to train or introduce the dog, he needs to be leashed for the comfort of your guests.
- Apolline (9/5): Superb - The place is peaceful, quiet in the jungle. It was super lovely. The facilities to do yoga are great.
- Anufrii (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing place with a great views comfortable beds. staff and owner are amazing very helpful
close to town just a couple minutes walk.
- Lisa (7/5): Great place that sadly overcharges (bad/wrong exchange rate) - You feel like you're in the middle of the jungle, lots of green area, you can see a lot of birds, a big Iguana up in the trees and racoons. Nice jungle feeling. Well designed with love (pictures, decoration). Absolutely great view from the terrasse! Yoga deck and hammocks to chill. Gorgeous sunsets! Feels like a peaceful home.
I recommend but PAY ATTENTION TO THE EXCHANGE RATE they give you & INSIST on the official one!
Or try the place 1 min further up... Bad exchange rate (booked in $, paid in colones) instead of the proper one - even after asking about it. Reason: "It's changing all the time, so we keep our own" (a lot higher).
I asked at a bank & police station later & they said this isn't legal. They must give the official exchange rate or nearby. I felt scammed & ripped off.
- Don't book tours here. They overcharge a lot (again). Walk 3 mins down to the city to book.
Feeling ripped off twice left a bitter taste.
I perceived this behavior of overcharging as fake for a place that sells itself as "positive vybes, awareness, love & yoga".
- Manon (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing place surrounded by nature with unique view ! Staff is very friendly. I highly recommend this peaceful Hotel
- Karen (8/5): A perfect Montezuma spot. - It would be great if they could include a breakfast and clean the rooms every 2 days. But overall it was a super place to stay. Some rooms are close to the road.
- Richard (7/5): Great town in good atmosphere! - The location, the little pool, the showers... Notihng, it was good!
- Shireen (4/5): Disappointing -
- Helene (4/5): too costly for the level of service - the sun deck is nice, and staff as well. there is a feeling of unfinish; the « art » and furniture in the room are really basic, doesn’t match with the price. while the location in the garden is nice, it is on the road side, super noisy. plus there are windows without curtains or way to cut the light, so the noise all night and the light made quite poor sleeps.
- Sally (8/5): this is a new hotel and still in process of setting themselves up. keep an eye on this place I think when complete will - in amongst greenery. lovely rooms feel like you are part of forest. saw and heard wildlife. lovely staff. great yoga platform. close to tow and restaurants beach etc. recommend this place still in process of setting up, not a negative as were still very attentive. quite a lot of stairs , fine but needs to be mentioned for some.
- Dianne (5/5): ok - The view was incredible. I actually saw the sun rise right out my bedroom window. The staff was kind and helpful and accommodating. The theme of the hotel was nice as there was a lot of local art, plenty of beautiful plants, and fauna. No AC. Ants were everywhere in the casita. We had two windows and when opened we got a good breeze at night but couldn't leave one of them opened because it looked right out to the communal deck. Flashing lights (decorative ?) of white, blue, red, etc were on 3 out of 4 nights we were there. Very noisy from the street below and in town (which was close) music. Many stairs as the elevation was high. Not appropriate for elderly or physical challenged. I don't like leaving these kinds of reviews but this hotel has a new owner (who was very nice) and a lot of potential and I hope he takes this as a tool to improve the hotel.
- Dagmara (10/5): Exceptional -
