- Carol (10/5): -
- Molly (10/5): Definitely will be back. We only stayed one night and would love to experience more. - It was so quiet and relaxing. The beds were extremely comfortable. The owners were very responsive and made check in very easy (: Could do with some more curtains on the windows and doors for privacy.
- Ruth (8/5): Fabulous property - perfect amount of rustic! - Generously sized cottage; very comfortable and perfectly furnished. Lovely property and beautiful owners!
The projector worked great! Would like to see one front and the back French doors have screens added so you could have doors open even if there were insects around.
Would suggest fixing up the back deck and stairs for safety reasons.
- Angela (10/5): Beautiful Family Cottage - Beautiful property, very relaxing. Loved the animals. Pizza oven was amazing, and it was nice having the fireplace inside. Great size - much bigger than expected. An extra bed for more kids would be a great option.
- QueeNZlander (10/5): Charming rustic cottage - The cottage was clean, quiet & peaceful with all the facilities we required. Unfortunately we didn't discover the games cupboard in the master bedroom until we were leaving. But we did enjoy Netflix on the drop down screen, as well as watching the sun go down on the verandah. Lovely bathroom & very comfortable bed. We stayed in autumn & it was great. I imagine it might be a bit draughty in an old Queenslander in the middle of winter. But you can't beat the charm of the cottage & the idyllic setting. Being a city girl, I was a bit perturbed by the gunshots that rang out for about 30 minutes on the first evening.
- margaret (8/5): - Very peaceful, clean and well equipped.
- Josh (8/5): Lovely little get away - Beautiful old home Nothing
- Emmeline (9/5): - A cute little Queenslander with character. Everything you would need is provided. Well presented, clean, and spacious with beautiful 360 degree views.
Love that there is no TV, but a projector and screen if you do wish to indulge in screen time. Not a deal breaker, but there are no fly screens, which mean you either need the aircon on if it's hot or no lights to stop all the bugs flying in at night, with windows open.
- Pauline (9/5): Grand stay in Grandchester - Lovely cottage in a peaceful location. We only stayed 2 nights so wasn't a concern for us but for longer stays you may want a washing machine.
Stairs into the cottage could do with some handrails.
- Melissa (10/5): -
- Donald (9/5): We enjoyed our time here, convenient location to visit friends on adjacent property - Great location for us Poor access into house - rear steps unsafe
Access road in poor condition
- Peter (10/5): Simple, comfy, beautiful - Loved this quaint little cottage. It was a very relaxing space, simple, functional and comfy. Our little ones loved the animals coming to say hello throughout the day. And the pizza oven was a hit for all of us. Such a perfect little space to get away from the busyness of everyday. The house has a few things that needs a bit of work but honestly, that adds to the charm.
- Shiho (10/5): It was a wonderful place to stay. - The owner was very kind and had already warmed up the pizza oven when we arrived. We could also see horses, cows, and even wild kangaroos, which the kids loved.
- Paulina (10/5): Perfect quiet place - We loved the place. Everything about it was perfect. We will be back to use the fire pizza 😊 The property is great but make sure to get repellent.
- Kevan (8/5): Very pleasant experience over the two days we stayed - would stay again. - Great rural/forest location. Fabulous character house with great attention to detail. No tv reception but a good internet based streaming option. Balcony dinner and breakfast both cooked in full kitchen capped off a lovely stay.
- Richard (8/5): Authentic historic country getaway. - Really authentic little cottage that has had an amazing renovation. Fantastic trip out of the city and just down the road from Hidden Vale mountain biking Park.
We had a big storm come through on the Sunday night which knocked the local power out from around 6pm to 2am the next morning. The hosts were quick to get torches and fresh water down to us. We were there in the peak of the summer which made it hard to spend time outdoors. The place is well air-conditioned though.

- Richard (8/5): Authentic Brisbane country escape. - Loved the country getaway in a really authentic historic farm cottage that has been really well restored with all the charm and modern comforts. Our 5-year old loved the animals.
We had an intense storm come through on one of the nights that knocked out the power locally for the evening. The hosts were there to provide torches and water.
Great option for mountain biking at Hidden Vale which is just down the road.
- m (10/5): - The very generous sized property was so authentic to the country/ rural stay experience from waking up to cattle grazing outside the front verandah & listening to the distinct local bird calls, so serene.
- Kirsten (9/5): Quiet gorgeous retreat with fire. Loved it. - Loved the quiet rural setting. Beds were amazing. Pot belly was a major plus. All set up ready to go, thanks.
- Nancy (9/5): Peaceful relaxing - The location was wonderful
The friendly horse and the peacefulness of the property were just amazing
- bailey (10/5): our stay was lovely, its a beautiful little cottage in a remote area, away from noise. -
- bryn (10/5): So glad our group found this spot and will be coming back again. - Property was a fantastic combination of modern upgrades with the authenticity of the cottage feel you’d expect being in a rural setting.
The hosts set it up very well and it’s an incredibly cozy place to stay and hang out with the fire going. Not really much, could maybe use some throw pillow on the couch but that’s pulling at straws. It was fantastic.
- Connie (8/5): Perfect - What a wonderful get away such a great Queenslander feel
- Claudia (9/5): -
- Moira (10/5): - The cottage is simply breathtaking. It has all the old school charm with modern amenities and is set on a beautiful property.
- Yowie (9/5): -
- Angela (8/5): Super spacious with old style cottage feel - Great value and excellent location. We loved it was super spacious, clean and had the old style cottage feel. Bbq was a rusted and we choose not to use it.
- joyce (10/5): - A hidden gem! Charming cottage exceptionally well fitted out.
- Melissa (8/5): Lovely accommodation with fabulous views - Beautiful country retreat with period features; very well equipped. A small jug of milk would have been great
- Prakash Subedi (9/5): - The cottage itself is very beautiful and well maintained. I loved the alfresco outside with pizza oven. The host were friendly and helpful.
- Smith (10/5): Enjoyed the lifestyle country setting and cottage - Brought own breakfast w but setting was good Felt like a country stay , projector was cool
- Vanessa (10/5): Lovely - Lovely, spacious, beautiful house and surrounding area. The kids loved the horse that came to visit and just generally playing around the house.
- Alison (9/5): Very relaxing weekend in a lovely country cottage - The Cottage is an authentic country cottage, and was much more spacious than expected. It is beautifully furnished with really comfy beds and quality linens and bathroom products. The location is very peaceful and it was lovely to see the horse and kangaroos outside the window. Sitting on the front verandah with a book and listening to the birds was very relaxing. Our hosts Tim & Bernadette were very proactive with check-in information etc and were very responsive to messages. The Cottage is only a few kilometres from the village of Grandchester and we can highly recommend the Grandchester Hotel for a delicious dinner and entertainment. Bring a hairdryer if you usually use one! This comment is made as a reminder for future guests only and definitely not a complaint as the booking information did not say a hairdryer was provided
- Helen (9/5): Delightful and comfortable cottage- ideal launchpad for us to attend a Spicers wedding. - The building itself was very quaint with attractive features. ( High ceilings, mutltiple verandas, gorgeous Moreton Bay Fig Tree, etc)
The extreme seasonal heat was handled well by the 2 air con units.
The ability to use the digital projector was a bonus. The insects were an issue as no screening.
The entry deck construction may need attention to make safer. We were very careful but an elder person or youngster would struggle without handrails & even step spaces
- Robert (10/5): - The location was quiet and peaceful,
- Rebecca (10/5): - The ambience of the cottage and its setting. Perfect cottage for a bridal party to relax and get ready. There was nothing I did not like.
- Pauline (10/5): - Beautiful cottage with lovely surroundings
- Tracey (10/5): -
- Judy (10/5): Amazing charm, will return! - What an amazing charming cottage. Beautifully decorated and a bed so dreamy to sleep in! Two of the best nights sleep I’ve had this week. To be greeted on the porch by the local horse in the morning was an added bonus. Perfect place to sit and write your next novel!
- Noel (9/5): Its location suited our travel plans, and the beds were very comfortable - quiet, comfortable, spacious, clean. Bernadette and Tim were warm, friendly and helpful. Lovely old house, but with a tastefully restored interior. lovely new, modern bathroom, and kitchen which was well equipped. No complaints.
- Carole (10/5): We enjoyed a relaxing country stay and love supporting country towns with Parkrun tourism. - We stayed there on a Friday night as it was close to Hidden Vale Parkrun. The cottage is absolutely charming if a little rustic.
Wish we could have stayed longer to take advantage of all the facilities. I dont think there were any negatives in our opinion.
- Dan (10/5): An exquisite, rustic cottage that has been expertly renovated. I will be back. - This is serenity. The outlook on the verandah with ‘Roos visiting, birds chirping, horse saying hello was serene.
The decor under the rustic roof is exquisite.
The space inside and outside is sparse, yet cosy, particularly with the very efficient fire burning brightly.
The bed is the most comfortable I have slept in, including my own.
The shower - beautiful, refreshing and hot.
The kitchen is absolutely plentiful.
The owners should be very proud of what they have done here. This is an exquisite property that has been expertly renovated, yet has maintained a rustic charm. I could not find any faults.
- Andrea (10/5): Lovely peaceful farm setting. Comfy bed. Lots of natural light and great views of the countryside. - The peaceful country setting. Everything was great.
- Tracey (10/5): Perfect place to relax and unwind. We will be back - Grandchester cottage is a fabulous place to stay. The cottage has everything you need to enjoy a weekend in the country. The friendly horse and cows that come to say hi make it perfect
- Bronwyn & Graham (10/5): -
- John (9/5): -
- Tracey (10/5): We had a lovely time enjoying this lovely home. Highly recommend. We will be back - The home was beautiful, welcoming, clean and so comfortable. We loved everything about the property x
- First (8/5): Real country cottage well stocked well presented very spacious - Very well laid out and presented It is a real country cottage
Fireplace set up ready to go getting there was actually easy Hmm I guess it was only me and my background I had a very poor nights sleep The doors have little to no security requires a lot more thought In an isolated spot just mentioning worst case scenario
- Stu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (9/5): we stayed for four nights enjoying the quiet serenity of the location after a day of sightseeing and - The location was exceptional, a farmstead style old timber house had charm all of its own the living area send it around a slow combustion fireplace, air-conditioner throughout, spacious interior and simplistic layout, a big screen projector and sound was a surprise. The kitchen was appointed very well with quality appliances and ample cutlery and crockery. Surroundings were an open field on the side of the hill with cows meandering, beautiful to wake up to. The local hotel was within a five minute drive offering a good variety of meals at a fair price, family friendly. The older style timber building was a little bit draughty in winter however the fireplace and air-conditioning coped well.
Connecting to the big screen projector was a challenge for the non-tech savvy.
- Beth (9/5): Confortable, charming cottage close to mountain bike trails - Old style charm with fire place. The cottage was spacious and comfortable, with a good kitchen, and adequate heating. We stayed to be close to the Hidden Vale mountain bike tracks.
It was very relaxing and peaceful. The hosts were available if needed and helped out with information and how to use the wood fired pizza oven. Great to watch kangaroos and birds, meet the horse and see the cows. We needed a washing machine to wash mountain bike clothing for the following day so were disappointed not to have one. A compendium of house history and functional information along with local attraction information would have been great.
- Ian (8/5): Brilliant, loved my stay. Very quiet and peaceful location, I loved it - Owners have done a great job in restoring the house. There's no closet/hanging space in any bedroom, needs an old wardrobe 😊 Nothing except needs some clothes hanging space in bedrooms
- Michelle (9/5): Loved our stay. Near perfect, relaxing day. Will stay longer next time. - Peaceful, charming. Not much not to like. Perhaps electric blanket would be good on a cold night and a small milk for tea and coffee. Some building maintenance and cleaning could also improve but minor complaints as the genuiness of the old house (with modern comforts) is the most important aspect.
- Ross (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional - Country atmosphere. Horse to greet us Mmm.... nothing really other than leaving
- Carol (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leica (9/5): Relaxing night away in a lovely presented farm cottage. - Lovely peaceful farm setting and they've done a great job on renovating the old farmhouse and adding special touches. The property was good value for money. It would have been great to have more time to use the entertainment/pizza oven area. Enjoyed the company of the cows, horse and kangaroos. The property is just a short drive to the lovely Grandchester pub where we had a great meal and listened to live music. There was nothing that we didn't really like. Suggestions would be that a carport or garage would be a great addition to the property and maybe a couple of face washers in the bathroom.
- Angelika (10/5): Traditional cottage with modern amenities in peaceful setting, highly recommendable, - Traditional cottage with modern amenities. Great location.
Very enjoyable stay, very comfortable, lovely atmosphere, good communication with owner Was perfect. Perhaps curtains across main door?
- Bradley (10/5): In a word SENSATIONAL - Absolute pleasure recommend to anyone Everything will be staying again 💯💯💯💯💯
- Jessica (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful atmosphere cute cottage.
- Yolande (10/5): Tranquillity at its best! - Peace and quiet. Super comfortable beds. Loved the horse.
- Fiz (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (9/5): A very nice, cozy cottage with comfy beds. Very quiet and peaceful -
- Catherine (9/5): Superb -
- John (10/5): Stay with horse, cows, frogs and wallabys! - Excellent, rustic accommodation with.a/c! Really good place to stay. However, we never saw our hosts! All good - except the Grandchester pub closed early on Sunday evening!!!
- Hari (10/5): Quaint home stay - Our daughter was starting her university in Gatton QLD and was staying at the campus boarding, so our plan was to stay somewhere close by, so that we could give her an opportunity to spend sometime with us, should she feel her new environment overwhelming, first few days. It turned out to be a great decision as the entire family fell in love with the cottage. We as family loved the quaint, peaceful, rustic country side living yet enjoy the cosy modern comfort which the cottage had to offer. The cottage is in midst of woods (aussies call it a bush), so the place brought all the joys of what the nature in such setup could offer. Waking up to hear the laughing kookabura calls, Eastern Whipbirds peculiar whip-crack songs, sight of wallabies and kangaroos grazing , Possums jumping from the roof to rest in the porch and lastly the friendly farm animals cows and horses. Especially the horse "River" was so cute, every morning when it reaches the cottage doorstep, it would neigh, to make his presence felt, so that it could be treated with sweet offerings and some pats from us. The hosts, Bernadette and Tim were so responsive, very helpful and went out of way to make us feel very comfortable. Really and truly felt we were staying at home. We will return again for sure. Nothing much really but given our extended stay, we felt the need for a laundry at cottage, it would have been convenient as the nearest laundromat was about 12 to 16 minutes either way. It would also helped if we had one more bathroom given that we were a family of three (at times four when our daughter came along)
- Monique (9/5): Gorgeous luxury cottage with a country feel - This beautiful cottage has all the homely, but luxury feels. Beautiful linen and comforts of a modern home, in a traditional homestead. We also loved the friendly horse and cows. A slightly more stocked pantry and fridge would be really lovely. Just a few other basics would be greatly appreciated.
- Patricia (9/5): Superb - Love staying at this property, it's always clean and I just love the horse and cattle
- Philippa (9/5): Peaceful spot to catch up and unwind - A beautiful old Queenslander that has some lovely details. Comfortable beds and wonderful pillows. Every window has a view of the farm - cows and a horse in the garden.
Thank you - we enjoyed our peaceful family time.
- Ann (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leslie (9/5): Peaceful country getaway - Private rural location with local kangaroos grazing in front of the shaded veranda. Beautifully comfortable bed and quality linens. Kitchen has everything for self catering. Home cinema setup.
- Glenn (10/5): Immaculately clean, peaceful and delightfully quaint cottage stay - The property was immaculately clean. Beautifully appointed rooms with gorgeously soft linen. Kitchen had all of the essentials to cook meals. Air conditioning was essential and worked a treat. There is a fantastic set up with a projector to stream your favourite shows. Friendly horsey and cows enjoyed a scratch and pat. Will return for sure.
- Bruce (8/5): It was nice to come back in the afternoon to a home rather than a motel room - I’m used to tiled roof so was loud when we had a storm in the evening
- Felicity (10/5): Tranquil home away from home - We are farmers so we prefer quiet, tranquil locations with no people around so this place was just perfect for us. It was as pretty as a picture and its pure simplicity meant we were the most relaxed we have been in years. The pub at Grandchester is awesome and it’s only a short drive to so many lovely little places. To be honest, I didn’t want to do a review because I wanted to keep this place all to myself! Beautiful restoration of a homely little cottage. Needs a little work on the back stairs and deck but it’s obvious that the owners are working hard to get all these things done. What they have done to date to bring this little cottage to life is devine. It’s only going to get better and I hope to return one day to enjoy it again!
- Alexandra (10/5): Exceptional - We loved the animals and the tranquility of the place. It was a beautiful place for our engagement.
- Mcauliffe (10/5): Peaceful rustic charm. - The cottage has a peaceful rustic charm. Spacious and open with lots of natural light. Views from every room to the lush green surrounds. Fully equipped kitchen. The horse was very friendly and visited regularly for a pat and a treat.
- Sarah (9/5): Definitely be back for another visit. - Friendly and helpful hosts. Very well equipped kitchen with everything one could need. Comfortable and clean accommodation with massive charm and character. Very close to the Hidden vale mountain bike park. Fantastic projector screen, log burner, outdoor area and pizza oven. Doesn’t have a bath.
- Belinda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Holder (9/5): Superb -
- Kerrie (8/5): If you like old houses and country living, this is a relaxing stay in a quiet setting. - It was lovely to wake up in the bush with bird calls and some cows outside. Air-conditioned bedroom was much appreciated. All the rooms were clean and well-prepared with lots of room to relax, and plenty of hot water. Renovating has provided some new conveniences to go with the charm of an old house. The shower pressure was a bit low. And I would like another bathroom, especially if we were to be sharing with friends using the second bedroom.
- William (10/5): Great amazing country cottage - Everything Nothing
- Keith (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joshua (9/5): Superb -
- Nicki (10/5): Charming cottage stay in a beautiful location. - Absolutely beautiful Cottage. The beds were so comfortable. Charming and clean. We loved the horses and cows too. Erg peaceful and serene location. We loved everything about the property. Just would have loved some milk in the fridge to be able to have a coffee on arrival.
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Very close proximity to Hidden Vale trails which was the main reason I booked. It is also a few minutes to the Grandchester pub for dinners and shoirt drive to Laidley for supplies id.you need them.
However it is a lovely peaceful serene spot to stay with great outdoor areas. Perfect for a small.grpup.of friends.
The house is old but has a lot of charm. The owners have put a lot of work into bringing it back to life with modern kitchen and bathroom.facilities.
Id stay here again for sure. Nothing
- Jasper (8/5): had a great weekend - Beautiful cottage on a quiet spot, only thing we missed was a good sofa / lounge chair(s) outside, the outdoor dining table chairs are not very comfortable to sit long and enjoy the view or a good book
- Rachel (10/5): Peace and tranquillity - We loved the location, the peaceful and tranquil location of the farm. The Cottage is beautifully renovated. Lots of space, great out door areas. The daily visits from the horses and cows were amazing..
- Fiona (10/5): Perfect for us, very nice stay. - The renovation is sympathetic of the homes age and heritage. Beautifully imperfect. Loved the projector screen which was ideal for watching footy grand final. We wished we had another blanket on one night it was a bit cool but we were inspired to use the fire place and heating instead.
- Tamsin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Geoffrey (9/5): Comfortable farm stay cottage -
- Alison (9/5): A romantic country escape , close to Brissy and Spicers and friendly hosts . - If you are looking for a country escape this is for you . An 110 year old + cottage with all the mod cons . It was so lovely, comfy beds and even the genuine uneven flooring ! We loved the quiet , the horses that came to say hello , the outdoor sitting area , the old bougenvillia , the data projecter and the best of all - 5 minutes from Spicers at Hiddenvale where we had a long lunch to remember. There are midges .
- Maureen (9/5): Relaxed country visit for 2 nights. - Lovely old timber cottage. Comfortable beds. Very clean. Used as base to do sight seeing in the area. Went shopping for food in nearby town. Would stay here again. Nothing
- Holder (8/5): Very good - The shower pressure was bad.
- Liz (10/5): Wonderful place to get away for the weekend. - Quiet and peaceful. Lovely location and outlook.
- Jessica (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful outdoor view. Spacious comfortable beds. Worth the value .
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Glenn (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (9/5): Superb - Great location for our needs. Cottage met all our needs. Would recommend
