Guest Reviews
- Doorten (9/5): - Loved the look and feel of the place.
The owner was very friendly and hospitable. Clean washroom/ kitchen and room.
Liked the ability to be alone at a campfire or join a community fire.
Every building had its own character such great detail, a real escape. The room had a musty smell to it. Just an air freshener would have helped.
- Amanjit (8/5): overall it is a great Glamping experience...i may come back after couple years... - kitchen was provided to cook your own breakfast. it was good. fresh coffee was provided. Organic eggs were available for purchase at site. overall it was goodk kithcen is open. if glass cover or something like that is provided, then it will be more cozy sitting inside. Though the heat flame is provided to be cozy, but covering the kitchen will be great!!
- Michal (9/5): - cudowny klimat rancza, łącznie ze spacerującymi zwierzętami
kuchnia na otwartym powietrzu
mili gospodarze

- Vanderbeck (8/5): - The atmosphere was great.
- Larsen (9/5): Superb - Authentic ranch, with authentic people. We enjoyed our stay! The campfire sing-along was a nice treat.
- Mercedes (7/5): Real experience in the forest - Cozy, in the middle of nature and great host Mosquitos (not their fault)
- Destiny (10/5): Exceptional - This place was really cool, we got it last minute and wow was it fun. It's like a little town with themed accommodations - tipis, a covered wagon, little cabins. We stayed in Pop's Ice Hut. We took a little walk through the forest to see their animals - horses, donkeys, goats, a peacock & more. It has shared bathrooms plus an outhouse which was actually pretty nice! Also an outside covered community kitchen which was awesome and we were able to use up some food we were traveling with. I wish it didn't rain in the morning or we would have spent more time hanging out there. All in all a really neat experience. And our host was super nice.
- Mike (10/5): We had a very pleasant stay - Owner and his wife came for a sing along around camp fire. Had a great time!
- Lettie (8/5): Very good - Host give a lot of information about the area. The singing around the campfire was a real treat
- Kiethlyn (9/5): Place was excellent one night is not enough. - Super friendly and accommodating.😃

- Teresa (9/5): Would recommend for stay , unique, country rich cabins and yurts - Very unique culture rich rustic property ,great host , very good experience .We did know how to start fireplace and it was late at night, host responded very quickly and help us . better shower facilities would help a lot

- Aleksandra (10/5): Excellent place. Can’t wait to come back. - The loveliest and cutest place I’ve ever stayed. It exceeded expectations and the family loved it too. I can’t wait to come back. Very friendly staff, adorable rooms and lots of animals! What could be better?! Everything was top-notch. We have absolutely no complaints. Highest compliments to the owners.
- Sophie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Beni (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steven (6/5): Ranch stopover - Quirky to say the least. Bit you knew that from the description so no surprises .
As comfortable as you can expect with no sanitation.
Friendly owner, camp fire and music. Shared kitchen and free coffee Its an experience but only for a stopover unless you are into horse riding!
Maybe a microwave in the kitchen .slow wifi ( only in common area)
All in all ok but way overpriced
- Varun (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing place for vacation, relaxing and take care of all needs. nothing I can think of.
- Mariab (4/5): Not what I expected - Pretty location. Quaint and quirky This is a campground with primitive cabins and teepees. There is only electric to the cabins. The door did not have a lock on it so anyone could have access to my space. Something kept thumping in the cabin at night and I jumped up every time thinking it was an intruder.
There were a lot of people there and only 2 toilets and a very primitive shower for the entire campground. It was about 80 yards from my cabin. Heaven help you if you have to urgently pee.
The cabin was stuffy and only 2 of the 3 windows worked. Wi-Fi faded out more than it was available.
There is a pavilion to cook and the hosts will sell you eggs from their chickens for $1 each. The Emporium was expensive.
I felt this was VERY overpriced for all that it was.
It needs multiple toilets on the property and locks on the doors. I don’t feel this was advertised properly.
- Richard (10/5): Great staff at the ranch! - Great staff, unique accommodation, enjoyable stay off the regular grid!
- Gunnar (8/5): Place to be - verry friendly host and cosy atmosphere at camp fire while listening to guitar music
- Tom (7/5): Great rustic experience. Friendly welcoming host. - Relatively close to Manitoulin Ferry dock.
Quaint ranch or village vibe.
Very rustic. No Wi-Fi in room.
Limited lighting (night tables only) in room.
- Samuel (10/5): Awesome for everybody who likes it calm and easy😊 - Something special to be in peace with Jeff on the firepit. Greetings from the swissboys
- Evelyn (2/5): Just a weird adventure. - There was no breakfast???????? Locks on doors. Information on line so we would know what accommodations we were really getting.
- Jun (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (10/5): Enjoyed it. It was the highlight of our trip across Canada. - Outstanding The style of old times
- Bernhard (7/5): Great camping experience - Perfekt place for a Camping Holiday with small kids
- Hana (8/5): Very good -
- Steve (7/5): Good - The best testimonial come from our grandkids who, four weeks after their visit, are still talking about their experiences there. Facilities are getting dated but then, that’s part of the charm.
- Jeff (10/5): Absolutely amazing people and - Staff and entire facility was awesome. Great communal sense, open kitchen and BBQ's available all the time. Everything!
- Fatima (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the place and atmosphere.. if you love nature, this is the place for you... Amazing experience and would love to come back!
- Chantal (10/5): A little slice of downhome comfort. - The Kicking Mule Guest Ranch is a fantastic getaway on Manitoulin Island. It is perfectly located to explore the island. We were received like long-lost friends and invited to join the nightly community campfire. (even if we were too tired after riding our motorcycles all day LOL) Our cabin was perfect! The beds were comfortable and clean. The common areas such as the kitchen has everything you could possibly need to make a delicious meal after hitting the local grocery store. (They even have a well-stocked Emporium Store on site with tonnes of things available.) The shower and bathroom were spotless. If you're looking for something different and welcoming, I highly recommend The Kicking Mule Guest Ranch.
- Chris (8/5): A funky little place in the woods, lots of charm and very friendly folks. - This cabin (Pops Ice Hut) is one of several options (teepees, covered wagon, bunkhouse) at the Kicking Mule Ranch on Manatoulin Island. Showers are a few yards from the cabin--which was comfy for 2 people. You can cook/prepare your own breakfast, lunch or dinner at the outdoor (covered) kitchen. It's like camping without needing your own equipment, and it was lots of fun Our host and his son were very hospitable and helpful, he even entertained the guests with an evening of guitar playing and singing around the campfire, a lovely experience. We weren't sure what to expect when we booked, but it was an excellent choice. Next time we are in the area we plan to say in one of the teepees for something different. The lamps in the cabin were a bit dim for our aged eyes, but we didn't stay up reading as we often do since we enjoyed a full evening around the campfire instead.
- Csaba (10/5): Real country atmosphere, peaceful environment, well built and operated place. - Family atmosphere. The immediacy and hospitality of the owners, playing the guitar around the campfire exceeded all expectations. It was time travel. The entire area is well-kept, tidy, humorous and creative solutions. I couldn't say that because we were satisfied with everything.
- Geoffroy (9/5): amazing location and Experience, with an amazing Host! - the ranch style experience is amazing nothing
- Lajoie (8/5): Very good -
- Basavaraj (10/5): Wonderfull experiance - I know of this amazing place in the western world that's run by two wonderful and friendly seniors. It offers a genuine experience of living in the countryside. With a little bit of promotion, this place could easily become a famous spot on the entire Manitolian island. I'm not sure why it's not well-marketed.
