- Lauren (9/5): - Comfortable and very well appointed Internet was intermittent
- carol (10/5): - Location to town and attractions
- Kate (9/5): Weekend stay in Broken Hill - It was very quiet and clean.
- Pauline (7/5): Overall it was a very comfortable place to stay. We enjoyed the home as it was close to the centre. - The location was excellent. It was neat and tidy and the beds were very comfortable. The living and dining space was great. It was excellent value for the price we paid and the communication with owners was clear. I would be happy to recommend and stay at this place again. I bought some washing detergent and kitchen sponges to wipe the benches and spray and wipe for the bathroom. I was happy to do this but it would have been helpful to have these products available. Maybe the rug in the main room could be turned over as it has lifted up and could become a trip hazard. One of the bedside lights was also faulty and made it difficult for reading at night.
- Michael Lonzo (8/5): It was quite enjoyable. - Location was close to town centre. My brother and I had meals at cafes and clubs. The driveway was a little tight, but I managed not to hit anything.
- Alex (10/5): -
- Lammy (8/5): - The house was clean and situated in a quiet street. Close to shops and attractions. I didn't like the air-conditioning, but that is very personal, not used to evaporated cooling, coming from Perth
- Ian (8/5): Felt like a genuine Broken Hill home. - The complete 'home' feel in that everything we needed was there. Plenty of space and easy to find all the important items. The walk from the station (our poor planning - arriving 11pm on New Year's Eve!)
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Great feel to house and an amazing oven Wanted to cook more in the oven it was great
- Deborah (8/5): - Great house, older style but very clean The neighbours across the road, but that's not the hosts fault
- Maureen (9/5): - Great location and really well stocked appliances The floor rug in the front bedroom was curled at the edges and a high trip risk
- Hodgson (9/5): We really enjoyed the house and our stay, it had everything you need for a nice and comfy time - The house was roomy and comfortable for our needs and was situated in a good location to the CBD and surrounds
Also the host Janet was readily available to speak to and contact by sms and provided good and detailed information when requested which was most helpful It is not a criticism but there is no dishwasher
- Debra (9/5): - Cleanliness and the facilities
- Pamela (9/5): -
- Jon (9/5): - Clean, roomy and comfortable.
- Wendy (10/5): Wonderful thank you - Had everything I needed Nothing
- McCormick (8/5): -
- John (8/5): -
- Ryan (9/5): - Easy access and good location. It has older style bathroom and kitchen, but they were fully functional and clean.
The ‘pay it forward’ approach to pantry and general use items (washing powder, food, general cooking ingredients) was a great idea. WIFI password didn’t work, but the mobile phone connectivity was good enough to use our own phones for what we needed.
- Leni Sema (9/5): Very relaxing and homely. - Quaint cottage/home that has been well refurbished - with more to come according to owners. Plenty of room, very comfortable, very good heating, good hot water and shower, well equipped kitchen and in a quiet neighbourhood but close enough to great coffee!!! Nothing really!
- Marbar1975 (8/5): - Location, comfort, facilities.Very good money for value considering the home is a work in progress.Communication with the property owner was very good.We were alerted beforehand of the narrow driveaway. The very wide street was appreciated..The house suited our senior circumstances and we would come back. .The venetian blinds were.dusty and in parts unclean. The wifi only existed for a short time. The property owner is attending to this. The venetian blind in the main bedroom does not either open or close as the mechanism appears broken.
We did sleep well but for light sleepers it will be a concern.
- Janis (9/5): -
- Karin (9/5): Highly recommend this place fir a visit to Broken Hill - Well located within walking distance of town. Exceptionally good cafe around the corner.
Property was well equipped to allow for cooking.
Property was clean and warm. Nothing really
- Judy (9/5): Well priced, excellent self catering accomodation. - The price was reasonable, excellent kitchen, comfortable bed. Nothing
- Chisholm (8/5): Very good - Dated but recently renovated properly, very clean. Kitchen is well equipped with basic pantry idems on hand
Great location.
Gas heater heated the living and bedroom areas well.
Good value for money. Driveway too narrow of 4WD, but parking in the front of the property is available.
- Andrew (10/5): Really nice place. Everything we needed, great location & very comfortable. - It had everything we needed, good location & comfortable The local dogs were a bit noisy 😩
- Carmela (3/5): Beds very comfortable. Not welcoming place. Front of house layers of peppercorns looked like it hadn’t been swept for a - Location It was dirty. Layers of dust on ceiling fans, window sills. Smelt musty.
No toilet paper. No long life milk
- Theresa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Clews (6/5): Older house with plenty of kitchen facilities and a good stock of every day needs. -
- Graeme (8/5): Very good - great location and would stay again
- Jennie (8/5): Comfy and Old Time convenience. - It was a pleasant experience at the Purple Gate. Old time feel, with comfy beds. It felt like staying in a real Broken Hill house. The only hard thing was there was not a lot of room in the bathroom. The doors to the bathroom & shower kept on getting in the way of each other. The best thing was there was pay it forward so lots of nice touches like sauce and other items donated. We left a full box of weet bix. More places should do that, very welcome if you’re late into town and shops are shut. Lots of nice extras in the bathroom.
- Rose (10/5): We had a fantastic time in your home.made our trip so easy & enjoyable . Thank you - We had a very full week in Broken Hill and were glad to fall into very comfortable beds at the end of the day. The kitchen was very well equipped. House clean & tidy with just enough furniture, not cluttered. Easy to orientate ourselves from the location. Reasonably quiet. Nothing we didn’t like, just a couple of suggestions. Oven mitts would be handy, information about recycling cans & bottles on white board on fridge would be great. We discovered that you can get cash for cans & recycle bottles at a depot not far away.
One of the touch lamps in main bedroom only operates on/off by plugging/unplugging from piwer point.
- Marissa (10/5): From start to finish was great, the house was very clean and had everything we needed and more. Was safe and close to ev - From start to finish was great, the house was very clean and had everything we needed and more. Was safe and close to everything we needed. Communication was great . Would def stay again
- Cameron (9/5): Superb -
- Garry (9/5): Superb -
- Louise (9/5): Superb -
- Judy (9/5): What a charming, fully equipped house for a short stay, or a long one. - What a delightful house! Absolutely everything needed in bedroom, kitchen, lounge, laundry, even back door parking. Driving in the outback we had no mobile coverage, so had not read the entry instructions, finally rang to advise ETA and were startled to find owner in Perth. After ten minutes of confusion, with phone coverage in the town, we gained entry, so all good. Perhaps entry instructions should be sent several days sooner, but no regrets, all good
- Marsden (9/5): I would stay again if the need arises. - The house was clean, well equipped, spacious & exactly what we needed. The neighbourhood was quiet.
I recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to be cooped up in a motel room. The air conditioning could do with an update, especially in such a warm/hot environment.
Second b/room could do with a bedside lamp.
- Anthony (10/5): Amazing - Very nice house. Loved everything about it Nothing
- Keith (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely house with great facilities.
- Janelle (10/5): Felt like a second home. - Spacious and clean with everything we needed.
- Trisha (9/5): Great location, very clean and has all you need for an enjoyable stay in Broken Hill. - Great communication with the host which was so appreciated as we stayed during the big power outage.
- Jill (10/5): Perfect for us- 2 'senior' ladies! -
- Mary (8/5): Lovely place in a very interesting town - Well-cared for. Very quiet location. Not only a washing machine, but a clothes line and a laundry trolley.
Off-street parking, which made loading and unloading very easy. Desk as well dining table. Second toilet. Liked having basic pantry staples. Floor plan is slightly quirky, which didn’t bother us, but some people may not like bedroom and bathroom at opposite ends of house. It was the middle of September, so we didn’t need to use the gas heater, but it is unflued, which would be a problem for a lot of people.
- Annushka (9/5): Superb -
- Julie (9/5): Great - n/a Only that the blinds in the main bedroom didn't work and the street light shone onto our pillows !
- Christine (9/5): Superb -
- Patrick (9/5): Love it - Great location awesome old house private and secure
- Jami (10/5): Great homely home in a great location - So cute, cozy and comfortable
- Viv (10/5): Comfy house , warm in winter , convenient location - Convenient location . Comfy bed . Good value It was all good
- Susan (10/5): Fantastic property. Highly recommend it. - Great location and the house was very comfortable and well equipped for visitors. Free laundry was a lovely bonus for us as well. An enjoyable stay. The only negative was the wifi was a bit patchy but otherwise all was great.
- Robyn (10/5): Great little comfortable home, super clean, quiet location, secure off street undercover parking - Great location, spotlessly clean, everything you needed available, value for money. Great little house. Internet connection was not great.
- Oleg (10/5): Perfect!! - This is a great place to stay for a few days! It's very cozy there. I would like to have a business like that. Someday, I will buy something similar so that travelers can enjoy their stay.
- Ross (9/5): Amazing location and comfortable house - Great facilities, clean and well presented. Amazing house which is very comfortable My only criticism was the internet was unreliable. Very very minor but other than that it was an amazing place to stay
- Marie (10/5): lovely well maintained owners still working on the house although its perfect as it is. - attention to detail home from home washing facilities including clothes line very well equipped kitchen comfy couch owners easily contactable
- Jayne (7/5): Good -
- Lauren (10/5): Exceptional - One of my favourite accommodation stays I've had since being in Australia! Very homely, the bed was so comfy I didn't want to get up! Amazing value for money! They were also quick to get back to you if you had any questions! Thank you so much for the early check in aswell! :-) Nothing bad to say :-)
- Brett (9/5): Great location, clean and homely - Excellent location, spacious and came with everything we needed. Very clean, and responsiveness from the owners exceptional.
- Catherine (7/5): Thanks for the opportunity to stay at your peoperty. - We were comfortable. The property was adequate for us. Being out of the town meant it was very quiet. There was not heater in the main bedroom, and the house was very cold on arrival... naturally being a very old property.
- Neil (9/5): Great quiet house with great facilities close to city centre and attractions. - Excellent facilities. Very clean and comfortable. House was in a very quiet wide street. Comfy beds and couch. Some pantry items on a swap honesty system was a nice touch. Plenty of street parking. Property has a deep gutter on footpath common in Broken Hill. Coming in on angle helps.
- Bronwyn (8/5): Pleasant and homely - Clean and comfortable and in a convenient location
- Auke (10/5): A great place to stay - A lovely, clean, roomy place for our stay in Broken Hill. Such a great spot.
- Andrew (9/5): Superb - A very comfortable house that has been nicely done up.
Still a 60’s feel though.
Plenty of space.
Very happy to stay there again if visiting Broken Hill. Nothing in particular.
- Dorothy (5/5): It is a nice place perhaps we were just unlucky. - Nice little house in a good area, near the centre of town. Was very quiet at night. Off street parking. Well equipped kitchen. Owner has recently replaced the floor coverings. We arrived mid afternoon, property had not been serviced. We contacted owner and she sent a cleaner round immediately. On our 2nd morning the main heater in the lounge room ran out of bottled gas. After various messages where the owner argued that this could not possibly be the case, she finally agreed that it was but it was too late to get gas that day. The weather was very chilly, the only other heater was a little fan heater so we had to go out for the evening. WiFi is very poor.
- Irene (9/5): Superb - Comfortable stay with all practicalities provided. Please don't change the retro feel too much with the update. I love the bathroom vibe. :)
- Peter (9/5): Superb -
- Karen (7/5): Clean, value for money, caring hosts and good location. - The location was great. Close to main streets and a quiet street. The kitchen facilities were great. A new stove and plenty of utensils, cooking equipment and containers. Great laundry facilities. All very clean and very secure. Good value for money. Not that these were to dislike but clients need to be aware that the off streets parking may not be suitable for large vehicles. There was plenty of on street parking. The bed was a small double bed that may not suit all clients.
- Allan (9/5): Very good -
- Annette (9/5): Superb - location, amenities keys were confusing and I dont think one worked for the front door.
- Mark (9/5): Go and see Larry, at Whites mineral art and mining museum - Had a real homely feeling, walking distance to town centre. Keys need colour caps to identify which key is for what door.
- Truus (10/5): Recommend it to my friends! - Great location, great kitchen, non perishable good supply, lots of space in the yard. Washing, drying facilities.
Handy 2nd toilet. Great and communication with owner and good value.
- Leonie (9/5): Great location and facilities - Access to a washing machine was excellent. The kitchen was well equipped and had food to start us off if needed. The place is roomy and friendly. The double bed wasn't particularly comfortable (and the room is big enough to house a queen bed).
- Catherine (10/5): would come and stay again Broken Hill has so much to offer as a holiday destination - location was fabulous. We had walking distance to town and off street parking. House was a great place to stay would do it all again. I did not have access to the app for the door code as had been travelling for days did not have access to internet to get details for contact - Once I made contact process was great.
- Bronwen (9/5): Superb -
- Verna (8/5): A very comfortable place - suited our needs - Spacious. Had everything we needed Three cornerbacks under clothesline
- Anthony (8/5): Great accommodation, would aim for that again if in the area - WI Fi was not very good or that may have been my method of starting it.
- Louise (9/5): Superb -
- Carol (9/5): A nice 2 n - Location is good, close to town centre. Internet was slow.
- Adam (8/5): Cheap , clean and comfortable - Under cover parking out back .
Extra toilet and laundry outside Evaporative air conditioner water pump is very noisy . Needs replacing/ repair
- Robyn (10/5): Exceptional - The House with the Purple Gate had everything we needed for our stay. Comfortable beds and well equipped kitchen. Very clean and air-conditioning worked well. Liked everything.
- Carswell (9/5): Wonderful - Great location. Cosy cottage, excellent host. We loved it. Nothing
- Lyn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Roslynn (10/5): Host was very informative which made our short stay excellent. - Good location, house had everything we needed for our stay. Very quite neighbourhood which was good after long days out.
- Samuel (8/5): Homely and comfy, rough-around-the-edges accommodation. - Convenient, homely, well-equipped, responsive host. Not thoroughly cleaned, electric lighting too harsh and bright or not bright enough, evident trespassing by neighbours/passers-by.
- Choi (8/5): I will stay again in the future - Very comfortable, clean and close to everything we need.
- Kate (9/5): Would be good value for money if toilet & aircon worked. - Clean, tidy & good location. The main toilet was blocked for 2 days & caused an odour.
Aircon worked and off
- Debra (10/5): would recommend this house to anyone. just amazing 🤩 - Was exceptional. Clean, & well equipped. spacious rooms. Host’s communication was excellent. Everything about The House With The Purple Gate, was outstanding.
congratulations and thank you Janet & Geoff for my amazing 3 day break. 10 out of 10 😊
- Mathew (10/5): homely comfort in broken hill - Homely, great location, comfy, relaxing. I would live here if I could! The only thing that would make it better would be some soft lighting in the lounge room, perhaps a lamp.
- Greg (10/5): Perfect property for what I wanted. Hosts very supportive - Roomy, clean, quiet, aircon great (was so hot outside) Nothing
- Gini (9/5): Comfy clean cottage in Broken Hill - Comfortable clean cottage. Able to put my small car under shelter. Very well equipped. I brought my own food so didn't use stocks in cupboards. Plenty of cooking equipment so good to prepare meals and cook. Good instructions from hosts received evening before stay. 2nd toilet was a bonus. Manager needs to clean bathroom fan and Venetian blinds. Bed is a little soft but was ok. Bathroom was a tad squeezy but clean and tidy.
- Gall (9/5): Great location, quiet, definitely a granny's place but is neat, clean and tidy and fully equipped.. - Fully equipped place. We come into town numerous times a year and there were containers, food wrapping and storage, a huge new stove/oven. If I had known I would not have needed to bring anything. My only grumbles are: no laundry basket, the a/c pump makes a lot of noise and tissues would be handy but I used a box from the car. Also the driveway is very narrow for a 4WD to enter.
- Leanne (10/5): Very comfortable & everything you need, very happy with our stay & would love to stay again - Everything you could possibly want in the property, very clean & tidy & very comfortable. Ample parking in yard. Very homely, close walking distance to shopping & restaurants & cafes. What I didn’t like was I couldn’t stay for a longer stay 😉
- Robert (8/5): We would come back and stay again without hesitation. - The location was great and it was very comfortable but it was the small touches like basic food ingredients, condiments, games, books. The kitchen is very well equipped. Great to have full laundry facilities. One has the sense that the hosts really want you to have a great stay. Some concern about the threshold between the lounge and back foyer. The carpet is lifting (possible trip hazard) and some boards under the carpet may need renailing.
- Allan (8/5): A great property with many advantages but with a few small problems. - Breakfast was not provided as such, but there was cereal and long life milk from other travellers and originally the host so that is always a bonus. Good washing machine, wonderful, huge new stove. Enjoyed the books and board games and coffee machine with pods. Lots of kitchen utensils etc. Cleaner does a very good job, but the property would benefit from a deep clean. Windows are very dirty, also curtains and blinds and screen doors. The outdoor furniture was extremely dusty but mainly due to dust in the atmosphere and the wind. Air con was like a jet plane. Lounge not over -comfortable but the owners are updating property and over time many improvements will be made.
- Donna (8/5): Very good -
- Peter (9/5): Excellent good value for money - It was a pleasure to stay at The House With The Purple Gate and would stay they again Nothing
- Peter (10/5): Fantastic Cottage, close location. -
- David (8/5): Very good - Clean and well presented little house in excellent location within easy walking distance from town centre
