Guest Reviews

- Marlie (9/5): Cute homestay for a quiet mountain getaway - Lovely little home stay, with a private bathroom. Amazing views of the mountains and the host has been super friendly and sweet. Perfect place if you're looking to get away from the busyness and want a relaxing mountain visit. If you're visiting to see the old town and the castle, then prepare to be walking a lot and with a lot of hills. There's no shower curtain or door around the shower, so the entire bathroom gets wet when someone showers.
- Salva Aras (9/5): Molt agradable.
- Olga (8/5): Wszystko zgodnie z opisem. Gospodynie baaardzo uprzejme i miłe.
- Piotr (9/5): Beautiful view! Tasty breakfast, kind host - View from terrace is AMAZING! It's worth staying there just for the view itself. Breakfast is very tasty and served on terrace. Host is very kind and welcoming, she provides driving directions. getting there is a challenge - do not go via Google Maps directions - you'll end up on a scary, coarse, dead end hill dirt road. Wait for directions from the host. Still, it was fun and part of the Albanian adventure.
- Stafrace (10/5): Exceptional - A Truly Unforgettable Stay – Like Being Welcomed Into a Family Home
Our stay here was nothing short of spectacular, and it’s entirely thanks to the incredible kindness and hospitality of our host and her amazing daughter. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like family — not guests.
The mother - Vera I’m pretty sure her name was, we were using translate, but I can’t compliment her enough. She is one of the most generous, warm-hearted people we’ve ever met. She simply wouldn’t stop feeding us! From delicious home-cooked meals to thoughtful snacks and drinks, she made sure we were always full and happy. Her cooking was phenomenal — made with so much love — and every bite felt like comfort food from home.
What truly made this experience exceptional was how deeply she cared for our well-being. Whether it was checking we were comfortable, helping us with plans, or making sure we had everything we needed, she went far beyond what any host is expected to do.
Her daughter (the host Elsa) was equally amazing — kind, thoughtful, and incredibly helpful. She took the time to translate for us when needed, helped us find transport, and even arranged ways for us to get around and reach our next destinations. She was our go-to support the whole time and made navigating the area so much easier.
Together, they created such a warm and welcoming environment that we genuinely didn’t want to leave. This wasn’t just a place to stay — it was a heartfelt experience that reminded us of the goodness of people. If you are lucky enough to stay here, you will be taken care of in every possible way.
Thank you for everything — you made our trip unforgettable. We left with full hearts (and full bellies!). The place was hard to get to but the Elsa speaks to the drivers and helps with everything
- Lukas (8/5): Very good -
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sangeeth (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect stay for solo travelers! The property is in a peaceful village with stunning mountain views. The host, a lovely mother and daughter, were very welcoming. The mother’s homemade Albanian dinner was absolutely delicious, and breakfast was great too. Though the mother doesn’t speak English, her daughter was always available on WhatsApp. Highly recommend for a relaxing stay😊
- Eni (10/5): Super b - The breakfast was super delicious, the view and the fresh air is a bonus
- Carly (9/5): Superb -
- Elsas (10/5): Super calm place - The host super friendly and the house has a beautiful view and it was very clean . I will come back again
- Ergi (7/5): Good -
- Brett (8/5): Very good - Accommodation was a bit tricky to find. Google maps isn't great.
Accommodation is very clean and tidy and Elsa's mother who hosted us is very nice. Views were spectacular and inclusive breakfast was tasty. If you want authentic Albanian hospitality the stay here.
About 30 mins walk from Gjirocasker Castle Not going to nit pick
- Melanie (9/5): Nice stay with a nice view from the balcony - Owners are really nice and the daughter supports them with the communication. She was always available via Whatsapp and wrote us in English.
We got fruits from the garden and we could use the washing machine (short program, 30 min, 4 euros). Small things: Roosters directly under the balcony of the room, that wake you up early in the morning. The dog was fixed with a short chain during the day, that he does not chase the chicken. Chickens were in a outside area. Would be good to have a fence on the backside, that the dog could be free.
You hear the big road down the mountain.
- Helga (10/5): We loved staying at this beautiful and quiet place. The host was very lovely. - The host was super friendly, even though she couldn’t speak English. Her daughter was always reachable on WhatsApp. We felt very comfortable and were also welcomed with fresh fruit from the garden. You need 30 min to reach the center of the city by foot. That’s totally doable. The street to get to the property is a little bumpy, but we were already used to those kind of streets in Albania. :)
- Vincenzo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stanley (10/5): Cosy accommodation - If you want to have a traditional experience and stay in a clean accommodation with cosy vibes, this is the place to be. Elsa’s mum welcomed us with some fruits out of her garden and provided us with a lovely breakfast. She’s doesn’t understand English, but she tries her best to communicate with you the best she can. We felt very welcome and taken care of. Besides that Elsa replies really fast to your messages and is very helpful.
It’s a 30 min walk to the city centre, but we didn’t mind because it makes the accommodation more peaceful and quiet and it gave us the opportunity to see more of the city. The hen woke us up a couple of times in the morning. So if you need a natural alarm, it’s perfect😂
- Carlotta (9/5): Superb - We really felt really at home at Elsa‘s place, especially because she was so sweet to us 😍 the apartment was really clean and the food super good! Thank you again!
- Filip (10/5): Exceptional - This is not your usual apartment because you live in the house with the owner's mother. The apartment is completely separate, though, so you have full privacy. Both Elsa and her mother are amazing people and we felt very welcome. They navigated us carefully to the house, provided us with everything we needes, and prepared for us a delicious breakfast. It is a bit far from the city center but it is not necessarily a problem. It just depends on your preferences.
- Michal (10/5): Exceptional - The house is about a 30-minute walk from the historic center which is an advantage in this case. The accommodation is run by Elsa and her mother and the mother is present in the house all day. Mother doesn't speak English but Elsa is always on the phone and helps with absolutely everything. She answers even very late at night. Every morning we got a great breakfast which was served at the porch with an amazing view. Lunch and dinner can be arranged for very favorable prices. Staying at Elsa's Villa was one of the most interesting experiences we had in Albania and we would not hesitate to stay again if we come to Gjirokastër.
- Radek (10/5): Recommend absolutely! - everything was great. we received a watermelon as a welcome. breakfast served with homemade ingredients. we got everything we need. :)
